viper green renault clio rs(real hot-hatchback size, weight and price); current times, gr yaris but now it has the price of an m3 e90 when new and so..., there aren't new hot-hatchbacks in sale anymore 🙄🤷🏻
yes for the same money you can have a fucking Tesla model 3 RWD with the big battery pack. 702km of range and 5 real seats and cargo space with better performance
I'm glad Alpine is coming to the States in 3 years. I hope the a290 comes over. I'm so tired of seeing massive vehicles on the road with way to much power.
Rather unlikely. From what I've heard, the newly elected president wants to impose such high tariffs on everything in the automotive sector that comes from outside the United States, especially from Europe, that no one will be able to afford the car. Elon Musk will probably get a monopoly in the sector. So I would ask Tesla if they want to build something like that.
I can't be the only person to struggle with the range claim. Over 200 miles with a 52 kWhr battery ? Surely in real world conditions that's not very likely.
Nissan leaf+ is 215hp / 60kwhr from 4 years ago? Used £12k-I know it’s not fancy but does the job- was expecting more from Alpine hot hatch 280hp?? Tech washing ??
James another great video your reviews are just awesome to watch, like the job that Alpine did with the A290 but still, I'm waiting for Hyundai to make an EV I20N replacement :)
I love it and as I've been caught speeding I really don't want loads of power. The cameras these days are so good at looking far away, you tickle the throttle in modern day cars and you're 10 over. I don't actually want more power in this. I love it. Although the AWD version will be spicy.
@justinbennitt835 the rear axel is multi link and looks suspiciously open to having an extra motor plonked in there. I think in a year or two they will release the AWD version once they have made their money back on their investment in the platform.
@ALMX5DP it's not more expensive in here in France it's the fucking same price. and you have a better power to weight ratio in the tesla. this alpine/renault is a really expensive piece of shit. at 25k€ it would have a been a good car but not at the price they ask for. it's a scam.
No cupholders makes this worth considering. Having seen one, it is nicely made. The performance is luke warm rather than hot hatch It is rather heavy. This is clearly for City/suburban use, (same goes for all lectrics) for anything else, a range extender engine is needed. When does the range extender version come out?
Only a fanboy would buy this instead of a Model 3 RWD (in ev world, in termic there is so much better for the same or less money). Said that, one day someone will have to explain me the obsession UK car journalist have with cupholders. Really.
Well. I’ve been extremely excited about this car but I don’t think it looks quite as good as the standard R5 and the performance and handling sound a bit underwhelming. I think I’d spend the money on a well used A110 and save all that embodied CO2…and wait for an improved Mk2.
what is missing is a proper engine :( Proud of brake pedal feel!!! wow!! Amazing .... In the past we would concentrate on driving performance etc...now more tiem si spend on explaining the various displays.
I agree it is not "special" in the way you probably mean. But it's meant as a commuter and runabout, which is exactly the way I will be using mine. Just keep the special car for special times. The R5 "Turbo" is the special version of this. But it will be too wide for the city. And compared to what I see on the road today (banale crossovers and SUV's), the R5/A290 is not massive at all...
Looks like a flop from what I can gather from the reviewer. Unlike the Ionic 5N. Looks to be quite under-damped, they wanted it to resemble the "real" (as in "not-an-EV" Alpine A110 but it looks like they couldn't really do it with this weight. However, this does not mean that the regular Renault 5 EV is a flop. Quite the contrary I would say, I really like it.
good luck with that, considering it was designed as an EV from the ground up. Treat it as a stepping stone between now (where EVs are still heavy, expensive and not particularly engaging) and what will hopefully be on offer in 10 years time (lighter and more environmentally friendly batteries and generally cheaper through economy of scale).
souless understeery hatchback shaped renault's mockery of Alpine brand. (Alpine were always sports cars with dedicated platforms - this is what the cupra was/is to seat because that's the only thing Luca de Meo knows to do, nothing less, nothing more - )
e-mobility...many were excited...acceleration...whow! Many people have now seen through this deception. Purchase, infrastructure, repair costs (Bmw and VW, for example, charge up to 400 euros an hour for electric cars)...scrap! scrap! scrap! for green weirdos and do-gooders! sorry
What's your favourite hot-hatchback?
viper green renault clio rs(real hot-hatchback size, weight and price); current times, gr yaris but now it has the price of an m3 e90 when new and so..., there aren't new hot-hatchbacks in sale anymore 🙄🤷🏻
BMW i3S
Taycan
Peugeot 205 T16. Or maybe Dodge Colt Turbo.
Not this.
45,000€ ? For this, it is not surprising that the European auto industry is collapsing
yes for the same money you can have a fucking Tesla model 3 RWD with the big battery pack. 702km of range and 5 real seats and cargo space with better performance
I respect the fact it doesnt have cupholders. Now it just needs an engine.
it needs few horses towing it… 😂 the f engine 😂

In winter, no. In summer my Zoe has the same battery and I can eek out over 200 miles of mixed driving. 180ish pure motorway.
160-180 much more realistic
CarWow tested Zoe with the same Battery and the range was 229 miles.
This is an ideal second car that I would lease if those were sold in the US. Interior is nice, looks are good, range and performance are adequate.
Nissan leaf+ is 215hp / 60kwhr from 4 years ago? Used £12k-I know it’s not fancy but does the job- was expecting more from Alpine hot hatch 280hp?? Tech washing ??
This whole "enthusiast" car is nothing but a marketing stunt. The silhouette speaks performance as much as a washing machine.
Proper practical autoroute range at 130 km/h, 110 miles. Talk of a game changer
James another great video your reviews are just awesome to watch, like the job that Alpine did with the A290 but still, I'm waiting for Hyundai to make an EV I20N replacement :)
Glad you enjoyed!

Is there an AWD version? I thought it was only FWD
@justinbennitt835 the rear axel is multi link and looks suspiciously open to having an extra motor plonked in there. I think in a year or two they will release the AWD version once they have made their money back on their investment in the platform.
Should be lighter, cheaper, and more powerful.
I’ll take any two of those three.
@@ALMX5DP tesla model 3
@@plop31 that is bigger and more powerful, but also heavier and a bit more expensive so doesn’t quite fit with my two out of three comment.

The last great hot hatch was the Clio 182. Front drive, big motor, 2 doors, big smile.
No cupholders makes this worth considering. Having seen one, it is nicely made.

I feeling like Alpine forfot their principal recipe with is lightweight. Such a small car half a tone heavier than the A110 is insane
solid state batteries and a motor with around 270hp for a version a la gt turbo would do the trick
I wish they would re-engineer the bmw i3. That showed how to weight save.
I own an Mégane E-Tech which has the same engine/power and I can't imagine this to be much sportier. Should have given it AWD and 300+ HP.
Driven mini, abarth 500e and this - Abarth got my vote....more feelsome!
So it actively wants you to bin it? Interesting..
'I like the fact that it isn' t too quick in the straight line'????😂😂
Only a fanboy would buy this instead of a Model 3 RWD (in ev world, in termic there is so much better for the same or less money).
Said that, one day someone will have to explain me the obsession UK car journalist have with cupholders. Really.
Cupholders? Seriosuly, who gives a rats about cupholders....
Everyone who daily drives their car
Well. I’ve been extremely excited about this car but I don’t think it looks quite as good as the standard R5 and the performance and handling sound a bit underwhelming. I think I’d spend the money on a well used A110 and save all that embodied CO2…and wait for an improved Mk2.
I'm confused why people don't want cupholders. aren't they convenient to have?
Non american people don’t carry huge drinks in their cars, a water bottle in the doorbin works just fine
Many Europeans want to carry a takeaway coffee in the car.
I'd prefer a brown curry takeaway bag hook...
what is missing is a proper engine :(
Proud of brake pedal feel!!! wow!! Amazing ....
In the past we would concentrate on driving performance etc...now more tiem si spend on explaining the various displays.
good brake pedal feel is something to be proud of in an EV with regen.
imho it's the best looking car there is on the market right now (under 70\80k) but 45 for this is nonsense
It looks massive and more like a crossover. It's a mass market car disguised as an enthusiast car.
I agree it is not "special" in the way you probably mean. But it's meant as a commuter and runabout, which is exactly the way I will be using mine. Just keep the special car for special times. Cupholder. No big deal. Never used one. 106mph? Not go great for track and autobahn. Some of us do both.
"Hot hatch" with a front end as tall as a SUV.
getting fed up of these car release videos, where just chuck in footage from the manufacturer and can’t be bothered filming exterior shots themselves…
We’d love to shoot all of our own B-roll but it’s not always possible given the time constraints we have on the day.

The Ioniq 5 in all its variations Is simply too big for the city, period. For me anyway.
45k is not what I would call cheap
20.5 Tonnes ? 1:13
PLEASE STOP AUTO AUDIO TRACKS
Just get a mg4 x power with 435hp 600nm torque and 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.
never mind the chassis is lackluster. Some roads actually have curves
So overweight is the issue.........There is much yet to be done in technology & production terms in order to achieve this goal......
Cup holder why this obsession ?
The Alpine needs a sun roof! Please Renault be kind!
no, just no
Great little car ... Do they have gasoline version ?!?
Styled by a twelve-year-old, and not very successfully I’ll keep my Giulia Q
Please give us a manual petrol version
good luck with that, considering it was designed as an EV from the ground up.
Treat it as a stepping stone between now (where EVs are still heavy, expensive and not particularly engaging) and what will hopefully be on offer in 10 years time (lighter and more environmentally friendly batteries and generally cheaper through economy of scale).
This is supposed to be a fast car? 217hp? This is less than 90% of the EVs on the market. You can buy a 290hp Tesla for the same money!
But then you support the Elon hulk... I prefer not to. Vive la France!
The title of the video is itself an insult to Alpine.
What a helmet……
Spacejunk
I also love the way it looks...but I will never buy one...all these car makers and legislators need is to drink a good cuppa of reality and wake up...

🤢 💩
What a horrible looking car, way too high
You certainly are entitled to your opinion and thanks for sharing. Completely disagreed
It's a "sporty" version of a practical city car. What kind of profile are you expecting?
This car sucks
