$38k is $49,350 USD, which is crazy for such a small, gimmicky vehicle. Also, the DNA separate gear selector buttons is a bad idea. It takes up a lot of space and isn't as intuitive as the traditional PRNDL layout most people would expect instinctively during an emergency.
the key is probs like any other renault key, so you might have to slide it up, so you can put in a little attachment like I've done with mine, so I don't think its a big issue.
I had a keyring wallet for my fob when I had a Renault Kadjar and the fob was identical to the one fir this car so there are keyring wallets you can put them in.
7:08 The key is a rebranded standard Renault key, the same as for my Megane. There is a silicone cover with a key ring loop or a hard plastic shell cover with a key ring attach, ent if you want them. Otherwise, yes it is annoying that the fob is so large and has no loop/slot/way to attach it to something. My fob ends up living in my laptop bag.
It's a gorgeous car. But very underwhelming for 50k Euros. For cheaper you can get the new JCW Cooper or Aceman. Or for even cheaper you can get the new Kia EV3 GT+ version. And for a bit more you can get the base Model 3 performance with ridiculous horepower that send you in space.
What do you mean with a 'base Model 3 Performance'? I thought there's only one Model 3 Performance. Always the same equipment and performance. No base or other variant.
@thedreamfactory6964 Well the model 3 here I Italy costs 57.450,00 Euro and with base i mean without enhanced Autopilot that costs another additional 7500 bucks. So if I want the Model 3 Performance with the best Autopilot and the gorgeous red color and the wall connector, it will costs me 70.000,00 euro
Overtake button is devolutionary. Just give me that power with full throttle and if you cannot supply it for longer than 10 seconds, back it off starting at 7 seconds, gradually. The button just reminds you every time you sit in it that it can't sustain max power. Playstation generation designing cars, which isn't a positive.
I’m waiting for a chinese company to make their version of this car to show legacy carmakers how possible it is to deliver a quality car with a good price…. then I’m gonna buy it bcs I really love the rally like retro shape of this car
A small hatch that weighs 1.5 tons? Crazy. Big wheels sap the range yet again. The red ov button looks like a bit of packaging that has been left behind. Lastly those X shaped lights look naff. Why leave the plastic lump on the bonnet when on a cheaper model it has a function?
I'd have gone with cup holders myself, maybe stuffed the wireless charging somewhere like the hole under the armrest. [edit: Maybe there'll be an aftermarket doodad that will slot into that space and give you a makeshift cup holder when you want it? I'd rather have somewhere to put my drink if I have to choose.]
I end up feeling a bit “meh” about this car. It’s an electric car, so what difference does it make where the gear selector is once you’re driving? You don’t touch them while in motion so it has nothing to do with the sportiness. I think I’d prefer to live with either the R5’s lipstick selector or without wireless charging so it could have cup holders. And I’m not bothered about the branding either. Renault would have been better to draw down on the heritage of this car - if Porsche can call an EV “turbo” then this could have been the Renault R5 GT Turbo. That would have been significantly more appealing.
They will push that button and overtake 101km/h vs 100km/h… So… does not help. Best are those that drive 110km/h… start overtake… reduce speed to 101km/h and increase speed after overtake back to 110km/h… 😂
@@haukikannel I believe that button will make sure they'll "step on in", instead of gently pressing the throttle. Some people don't understand they need to speed up to overtake
@ That button does not push the pedal. t just allows more power… if you push the pedal! Otherwice it would be dangerous! I am in trafic light… ups… i did push that red button! ;) So ofcourse it does not increase speed automatically. You still need to push the pedal to get the speed.
The Renault 5EV should be available as a 5, 5 Turbo and the full spice 5 Alpine, similar to the Ioniq 5N. This is just a Lukewarm Hatch not a proper Hot Hatch.
Problem is an Alpine as straight line powerful as a ioniq 5N seems like out of character overkill. But these are very disspoingly underpowered and wrong wheel drive. At best they should make the Alpine version 320hp with LSD about the max FWD can handle. These are not like VW ID.3 and Cupra Born which are rear motor RWD. In the electric era Hatches should be RWD as there is no major cost problem.
Absolutely love this little car but genuinely couldn't buy a car without a cup holder. Bizarre decision. Would just get the Renault 5 which looks just as good.
Honestly, I love the look, I love the numbers, and love the design. But not having cupholders is just such a bonehead move that makes all the other practicality useless. Choosing to do three large buttons for the gear select at the expense of cupholders is the kind of design decision that you'd expect a 5 year year drawing a space ship to make: might look cool but it's impractical.
NO CUPHOLDERS! why? styling over substance & function is annoying! you've ditched a small but crucial day to day use element in the center console ,please find a piece of free real estate somewhere in the cabin and fix it, it shouldn't be that hard
@@DeadlyDizzle-yn1vz And...no ! The problem is that you are supposed to be able to react in case in emergency ; how can you if your hand is not free ? I don't know where you live but due to increase in accidents, regulation have been made and it's become "illegal" to eat or drink while drinving so you can be fined. And that's normal, a car is not a toy. I hate cupholder in a car.
@ you are not always driving when consuming a drink, you may be stopped, may have a passenger, may want to store a drink for consuming later at work/home etc. In the UK, eating and drinking is not illegal and a tea or coffee while driving is common practice so a cup holder is an essential.
The exterior styling is cool but I don’t think the interior looks premium. Perhaps they’re going for minimalism but aside from the wheel looks a bit basic to me. Particularly in front of the passenger, cheap office furniture vibes.
Every manufacturer needs to swallow their pride and copy Hyundais N division and make BEVs FUN in aural and virtual gearboxes! How hard can it be??? It's not ALL about handling! Cheers 😊
Awesome "racing" EV, that has the looks. Can i say . . .finally? 1 little thing . . . . when someone parks a bit to close to the drivers door . . . how do you get into your seat, with that blocking middle concole?
Now here’s the problem, apart from a beautiful design (which it is, it’s a stunning looking car) and buying a machine which represents to automotive history, this car is obsolete in every way one can think off, compared a similar priced Chinese Xiaomi SU7 max. As a customer who’s neutral to both nations, not interested in geopolitics, decisions can be tough
No English track on my smart TV. It seems to default to dubbed Italian with no option for English. Perhaps you have forgotten to add back English UK after adding automatic dubbing, as on the PC it is showing English US, which obviously doesn't work on my LG Smart TV set to UK English?
I'm in America and expect cupholders in the very back of my CUV regardless whether anyone will ever be back there or need a cupholder. They need to be there. Period.
I am stunned by the amount of comments directed to the lack of cuo holders. Are you all so addicted to take away cups? But a bottle with a lid & stick in the door pockets. Problem solved & planet saved
“Boost” or overtake buttons are redundant junk. Flooring the accelerator pedal is all the input any car should need to give full power
The accelerator gives full sustainable power. The boost stresses the battery and pulls more amps that it can continuously deliver.
I'm not sure most people would like pressing the accelerator not knowing when the performance would drain away.

cool car. glad to see some small EVs. will look forward to driving one. and possibly buying one
What confuses me is the 170 km/h top speed, when track driving you’ll hit that cap pretty quickly.
What about the Alfa Junior as competition for the Alpine. Surprised this wasn't mentioned?
that's more of a crossover thing but yeh an interesting comparison given they have 5 doors and similar boot-space
Stellantis ain't competition, for really nothing. They messed up a whole load of historical brands.
I’m waiting for a chinese company to make their version of this car to show legacy carmakers how possible it is to deliver a quality car with a good price…. then I’m gonna buy it bcs I really love the rally like retro shape of this car
Aha. So a car assembled with cheap labour that destroys the car industry in Europe. Thank you very much!
Great looking little car - outside! 😍
Not quite as good as I hoped. I like any add ons to have a purpose, cross lamps, bonnet panel, cup holders, not enough performance to turn your head.
Infotainment and dash housing looks really weird to me. Feels out of place. So chunky and bulky.
Love it! Don’t understand the hate…
Exactly, placing the gear selector near the steering wheel is a much more practical design
1:08 „I haven’t even driven it… I found it like that in a hedge.” 😅
Appreciate it's asthetics but the fog lights look stuck on and internally no cup holders is madness. The ordinary R5 is much better
OV looks fun!!😙
Skinners are back! Where’s the tartan strip down the side?
No cup holders. No deal.
The overtake button is a "must have" for drivers that overtake at almost the same speed as the other vehicle and block everyone else behind them! 💪
They will push that button and overtake 101km/h vs 100km/h…
So… does not help. Best are those that drive 110km/h… start overtake… reduce speed to 101km/h and increase speed after overtake back to 110km/h…
😂
@@haukikannel I believe that button will make sure they'll "step on in", instead of gently pressing the throttle.
Some people don't understand they need to speed up to overtake
@ That button does not push the pedal. t just allows more power… if you push the pedal! Otherwice it would be dangerous! I am in trafic light… ups… i did push that red button!
;)
So ofcourse it does not increase speed automatically. You still need to push the pedal to get the speed.
@@haukikannel what I've seen on other reviews, it's like pressing the throttle, for a few seconds... Unless they were making fun of it
@ As I said… That would be dangerous and in most countries illegal so… I really doupt! It is just small time increase to awailable top power.
The R5 Turbo version would the 180BHP version of the Alpine A290.
Too sports focused with a lack of practicality. I’d take a Renault 5 (in funkier colours of yellow or green).
Absolutely love this little car but genuinely couldn't buy a car without a cup holder. Bizarre decision. Would just get the Renault 5 which looks just as good.
But the 5 won't have the chassis set-up of the A290
That glossy black plastic parts need PPF protection from day 1.
the link coordination is not really shield s thing is it
Honestly, I love the look, I love the numbers, and love the design. But not having cupholders is just such a bonehead move that makes all the other practicality useless. Choosing to do three large buttons for the gear select at the expense of cupholders is the kind of design decision that you'd expect a 5 year year drawing a space ship to make: might look cool but it's impractical.
NO CUPHOLDERS! why? styling over substance & function is annoying! you've ditched a small but crucial day to day use element in the center console ,please find a piece of free
real estate somewhere in the cabin and fix it, it shouldn't be that hard
you shouldn't be drinking coffee while driving. I daresay there is space for a water bottle in the doors
@@Hali88it’s not just coffee people can drink while driving that is held in cups.
Cupholders so last year!!! 😉. Its a drivers car not a Chelsea tractor.
Damn, now want one, but if comes to Australia it will probably be overpriced. Like Cupra Born 😢
It won't come to Australia. Renault is represented in Oz by a inept importer.
The exterior styling is cool but I don’t think the interior looks premium. Perhaps they’re going for minimalism but aside from the wheel looks a bit basic to me. Particularly in front of the passenger, cheap office furniture vibes.
Great review, but you can't have a modern car without cupholders!!
Every manufacturer needs to swallow their pride and copy Hyundais N division and make BEVs FUN in aural and virtual gearboxes! How hard can it be??? It's not ALL about handling! Cheers 😊
100% they do not need to do this…….
@ world wide praise on the epic ioniq N you’re in the 100% denial 😂😂😂
I know theres recycling, but re using the key from a Renault craptur. For nearly £38k I'd expect something a bit more gucci than primarni
No cupholders!!! I can't do without my coffee. It's now the mini for me.
you shouldn't be drinking coffee while driving. I daresay there is space for a water bottle in the doors
@@Hali88Unless you're their mum, I don't think you have much say in what this person can and can't do
@@riaz8783 Tell that to the Alpine designers.
I agree they should have kept the cup holders, but you can still get the R5 which comes with cup holders.
Looks great
Awesome "racing" EV, that has the looks. Can i say . . .finally?
1 little thing . . . . when someone parks a bit to close to the drivers door . . . how do you get into your seat, with that blocking middle concole?
There is ALWAYS something to nag about... This time, it´s the cup holders... Oh well... What is it going to be next time around I wonder?
It IS a car review, right?
Now here’s the problem, apart from a beautiful design (which it is, it’s a stunning looking car) and buying a machine which represents to automotive history, this car is obsolete in every way one can think off, compared a similar priced Chinese Xiaomi SU7 max. As a customer who’s neutral to both nations, not interested in geopolitics, decisions can be tough
No English track on my smart TV. It seems to default to dubbed Italian with no option for English. Perhaps you have forgotten to add back English UK after adding automatic dubbing, as on the PC it is showing English US, which obviously doesn't work on my LG Smart TV set to UK English?
on automatic translation in French the AI has a man's voice. it's disgusting.
Finally the Alpine A290, is it worthy replacement for Hyundai i20N my pocket rocket 😍😍
PS HOW CAN YOU GET SO EXCITED ABOUT IT?
Gorgeous car.
Yep standard Renault key, it's been that way for what feels like 100 years 😂
No cup holders! They will never sell any in the US!
Have you noticed thr trend for folk to walk around holding a cup of coffee. Don't know if there's any coffee in the cup😂😂🎉
Bottle of coffee? Yeah cos that’s a thing….
@@willlodge5386 Take reusable thermal insulated bottle .. pour coffee in ...voila. Do you not understand?
Not just for coffee what about drinks bottles not sure the door pockets are big enough for these@davidmarshall5596
