This advice is gold. Tried it right away in my today's ut2 session. Especially the "helium filled arms" improved the force curve significantly during the initial drive phase and helped finding connection to the flywheel in the catch position. Thank you for your great advices in your video series. Greetings from Germany. (Former ever losing youth lightweight rower who is back rowing the erg at age 45😂)
very informative, thanks Travis. Finally I understood why the stationary rowerg has rubber band under the chain to pull you forward, it's mimicking on the water, boat is traveling under you. Also I prefer to row on old erg rather than new one, because the handler of old erg has relatively easy pull strength, so it's easy for me to maintain the posture.
Hey Travis. You have given a lot of information for free on this channel and i appreciate that but i’m much more of a book guy. What book(s) would you recommend for rowing training? Thanks.
hi Bob, I link a handful of books in my video descriptions. I would start with those. Most rowing texts are misleading and outline a training program that is simply derivative of methodologies applied to elite athletes. This is a horrible strategy for training the majority of non-elite athletes. Arthur Lydiard is the best resource for understanding the big picture for rowing training (Lydiard is a running coach) and Mark Rippetoe is my preferred resource for developing strength (an essential component when training for a power endurance sport like rowing).
How high should one allow their heels to rise off the foot stretcher at the catch? Is there another video where you talk about this? I find that if I let my heels rise up too much, I start to lose connection with the machine and also start to "rebound" backward because I can't hold a stable catch position from the balls of my feet.
It is an ARSE seat (link in video description). I believe they are out of stock at the moment but I'm sure you could get on a notification list for when they are back in inventory.

Very instructive, well explain, great. Thank you for sharing.

Sir I did 500m row in 00:57 with gymstick GR 6.0 rower using resistance level 8/16. How do you think that time would translate to concept 2 rower?
There's no translation. You'll just need to do a 500m on a C2 if you want a time to reference for that machine.
