You are doing well. Your attentiveness is admirable. As an old retired cattle rancher in Wyoming whenever we had a mature cow showing signs of imminent birth the policy was to quietly ride away and not disturb her. She will settle, lay down quicker and get on with business more quickly. Get some binoculars and keep a good distance, let the cow feel secure in her spot she's chosen. The 5-7 hour check intervals paid of statistically compared to one or two hour intervals by my old records. With your attentiveness and caring this may be difficult for you, Keep up the good work.

It's hard when you don't understand the "why" of loss. If you did you might correct it in the future.....and sometimes there may of been nothing you could do. When someone isn't a Farmer or Rancher they don't understand the time and money that went into getting a "good" outcome. That loss is heavy...and not just emotionally but financially too. Thrilled to see the new life on the ranch, congrats.....that had to move your mood up a bit. Here is praying the rest go as smooth.

Hi Mike. When most people buy a camera they look for a water resistance rating. You need to look for a cow slobber rating. Have a great day.

For most of your viewers the death of the calf was academic.....for anyone who lived on a farm/ranch it was a grim reality. I just hated it when we lost a calf. The worst part was when the cow didn't "clean"......been there several times Mike. Calving time is hours of boredom with moments of desperation.

Gavin B. It is a lot of hard work, heartache, frustration, and at times fulfilling. Don't plan on getting rich either. In fact I recommend starting off rich so you can at least retire just above the poverty line. I'm sorry, just venting. It's been a long hard calving season for us and cattle prices are so worthless now. Everyone wants their food for next to nothing and us ranchers and farmers are left floundering. No SBA loan will help us out.....

Glad everything went well with 130. As you kept going out I worried that there might be a problem. It is funny how one cow spends all day obviously in labour and the next shows now sign and drops a calf between checks. When working inside the cow, if you put the small glove over the long exam glove, you have better dexterity. This is especially when you have to re-position a calf. The latex or nitrile glove isn't as slippery.
