As for "finding kryptonite", it doesnt grow every corner. He wouldnt have time to do so if they kill him as soon as they beaten superman. They also lack any restraint, if Lex somehow has them in one place with a kryptonite, they can eyebeam him to death or snap his neck.
Just when I came to America from Vietnam, Superman 2 was in theater. Our family went to see this film, I was only 10yrs old then. I loved this scene so much. Gene Hackman and Reeve were the best.
"Lex Luthor's keen mind, Lex Luthor's saavy!" And both are on full display. He walks in like a sneaking little rat. Two minutes later, he's barking orders at them with a cigar in his mouth and his feet propped up. And the best part? Zod and crew are following them, without question or hesitation! I love this scene! It perfectly shows just how smart, cunning, and manipulative Lex Luthor really should be.
He's interesting, but do we need him in _every_ Superman movie, (including the corporate substitute in _Superman III)?_ They should have called the 2006 movie, _Lex Luthor Returns._ For the next installment, he'll be coming back again.
The acting and sharp dialogue on the first 2 films is worth gold. Never been matched by any of the remakes even with the tens of millions thrown at it on special effects .
Absolutely....I mean he special effects were just a bonus attraction. The acting was superb. The way they used their bodies and voices to draw you in. Now we have special effects over load 🤣.
All due respect to Sarah Douglas and Jack O' Halloran who were great but Terence Stamp and especially Gene Hackman owned this scene, their characters are the complete opposites in terms of the type of villain they are but yet they worked so well together. Fantastic performance from two of the best actors in movie history

The irony is that they have a lot in common; they both love the sound of their own name, repeatedly speaking in the third person. They have beautiful right hand women, and buffoonish but useful henchmen. One hates the father the other hates the son. So similar but SO different.

Gene Hackman is such a Brilliant actor...good guy, villain and comic genius. He did all types of roles....sad he doesn't act anymore. His lex Luthor is still the best

There are few movies that Mr Hackman has been in that weren’t classics or at least very good. The Conversation, The French Connection, even The Firm - all great performances from him. Looking back, it's so refreshing to have a criminal supermind who doesn't growl and mumble and get all Method-acting via a horrible character backstory. Hackman is having fun with the part simply because his Lex Luthor is having FUN being a villain.
One of the nice touches in the scene is Nan clearly understanding what is happening and being able to portray that in a non verbal way. He is not just a brute, but an integral part of what is occurring and why. Great acting

I have thought about this.... In the first Superman, Lex almost kills Superman by tricking him to take some Kryptonite, so he's very dangerous. Superman knows this, but Zod doesn't. I would imagine that Lex would search for the piece that was thrown away, (or find / construct more). Of course, Zod doesn't know any of this. However, although Zod wants power and rule, he doesn't appear to know how to Govern. Lex does. He also seems very useful and loyal. I would imaging that someone like Lex, due to his intelligence and creativity would make ruling a lot more interesting than just sitting in the Oval office doing nothing.

Looking back, it's so refreshing to have a criminal supermind who doesn't growl and mumble and get all Method-acting via a horrible character backstory. Hackman is having fun with the part simply because his Lex Luthor is having FUN being a villain.
His pronunciation of General always get me.

One of the nice touches in the scene is Nan clearly understanding what is happening and being able to portray that in a non verbal way. He is not just a brute, but an integral part of what is occurring and why. Great acting

The only reason Non doesn't have any speaking lines is because Jack O'Halloran's voice does not quite match his size.

I have thought about this.... In the first Superman, Lex almost kills Superman by tricking him to take some Kryptonite, so he's very dangerous. Superman knows this, but Zod doesn't. I would imagine that Lex would search for the piece that was thrown away, (or find / construct more). Of course, Zod doesn't know any of this. However, although Zod wants power and rule, he doesn't appear to know how to Govern. Lex does. He also seems very useful and loyal. I would imaging that someone like Lex, due to his intelligence and creativity would make ruling a lot more interesting than just sitting in the Oval office doing nothing.
