While perhaps not the "worlds best organ player" this video has given me so much joy, that I can't dissagree. This man has so much love and passion for what he is playing that is hard to deny that he is GREAT. I love this video. I've probably watched it 100 times, and will probably watch it 100 more! We need more of this in todays world! Thank You Marcus!
Nothing turns me off faster than someone who says or thinks he/she is the best. All this shows is an insatiable thirst for attention than anything else. True talented musicians don't brag.
It's been nearly ten years since I wrote this comment. During this time, I've gained a deep appreciation for the art of theater organ music, especially when accompanying silent films. Theater organs serve a different purpose than classical organs; it's apples versus oranges. This video was one of my first exposures to it. However, I still stand by what I said about this rendition sounding like sinister circus music.
I HAPPEN TO THINK THIS GUY IS QUITE INNOVATIVE WITH LOTS OF ENERGY. HIS PROFRESSIONS ARE GREAT AND HE DOES A WONDERFUL JOB. I HAVE BEEN A ORGANIST FOR 50 YEARS AND HE IS TALENTED. AMEN
you who give negative commenting here are really mean and ignoramus, do you play better yourself? this man playing here does really know his keys! do you know what he is doing?, he is being creative, you are not. look him up before giving stupid comments, especially from the "organist" here on this page, Steven Eaklor is an professional organist, and he has endorsed and worked for the Hammond Suzuki company for many years. just make a Google on him and you will se....
I learnt to play a Wurlitzer & a Rutt theatre organ at the St.Alban's Organ Museum and to anyone who hasn't tried let me tell you, it's like trying to fly an aircraft you've never been in before - with you eyes SHUT!... I think this guy did amazingly well and all you who disliked it... TRY & BETTER IT AND LETS SEE YOUR EFFORTS ON UA-cam!
I found a video on here of Steven Eaklor (the organist) playing the old Star Trek theme on a Hammond X-66. The best hammond organ playing, registrations, and drawknob changes that I have ever heard. You have to here this! Just type in Steven Eaklor in the search box.
1:43 He throws in "Perpetum Mobile" (Middleschulte) ending with the big chords spelling B.A.C.H. in the soprano voice (according to Virgil Fox). Anyone who thinks this organist is mediocre can show me their superiority.
Thank you for the nice comment. What's the matter with you people who have catty remarks about a person. I have known and worked with Steven for years and he is so sincere. He's not trying to be someone else. He conveys the style of Steven Eaklor. As a musician all my life, I detest critics.
Nothing turns me off faster than someone who says or thinks he/she is the best. All this shows is an insatiable thirst for attention than anything else. True talented musicians don't brag.
the restaurant Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa AZ has the 2nd largest theater organ in the world with 82 ranks and is still going id reccomend you visit if you can
Definitely a bookmark for many happy returns .It's music that moves , happy music. Please post more , Carmen Miranda would totally approve this fantastic rendition , thank you.
Classical organs are the organ you would typically see in church, concert hall, or city hall. The organ in this video is a theatre organ, you would typically have found them in in movie theatres, playing for silent films, or before films and during intervals playing orchestral and popular music.
Yes he is a good organist and he obviously makes himself as 'one' with the organ, thus 'that look' on his face. I have seen it before in other organists. While I never played like this style, I did play Mighty Wurlitzer's around the nation for a few years at engagements, but my style was not like this. This is not mediocre playing. It is true showmanship of a high intense style. To the organist: Job well done and do not worry about the negatives being slung herein. Thank you and keep up the showmanship!
Some of the best theatre organ phrasing I have heard. Steve is working hard to please the audience with a difficult piece to play. It's too bad the microphone had to be so close to the console and that some of you don't know when someone is hamming it up for the camera.
I have just been and looked at some of his other offerings and found that Steven has a nice smile and a pleasing personality. I think he just gets a bit intense in this one. Great player too.
Tico Tico...anyone remember Ethel Smith and the Hammond Organ playing with her high heels on the pedal board....nothing like throwing in a little Middleshulte alla Fox's rendition on pedals....he's a busy guy.. very talented for theater organ music...bravo..
Takes me back to the old Metrodome where the twins played back then. Metrodome organ player did this between breaks all day. Hell when a popular twins batter came up as well.
The musical instrument is the set of pipes. The organ console is a machine and playing it is very athletic. If anybody doesn't like to hear tapping, clacking, breathing, or grunting, then stand back. Some of the most accomplished concert organists in history are known for the noises in their recordings.
Brings back memories of the Wurlitzer from my home town. If your ever in the small town of Miami, Oklahoma... You have to stop at the old Coleman Theater and check it out. I can remember our high school band concerts and playing Alleluia! Laudamus Te, with the organ. Great Times.
I found a video on here of Steven Eaklor (the organist) playing the old Star Trek theme on a Hammond X-66. The best hammond organ playing, registrations, and drawknob changes that I have ever heard. It would not let me post the link, but just type in "Steven Eaklor" in the search box above. You have to here this!
I never seen anybody like that on the pedals. This guy is a boss! As Isaac said, this was likely for fun and not during a worship service. It's hard to understand why some folk are bent out of shape about it.
That's Amazing and I saw his eyes about as focused as humanly possible .I ain't never seen or realy heard of an organ. To be able to use that many possible combination of keys and them pedals buttons to make sound I've never experienced without flaw.I heard no mistakes or slip of fingers. This Brother is like Nikola Tesla of music.
Fascinating and Beautiful - I'm still in shock at the barrage of amazing harmonies! Great work, this definitely belongs in a large hall full of people!
If you want to see some brilliant pedal work. have a look for Simon Preston playing Toccata Festiva. Also listen to his Bach Toccata & Fugue in D minor.
The organ is tuned to a pitch referred to as A-440 at 70 degrees Fahrenheit, assuming that the temperature setting was correct when the work was done, "Happy pitch" is one that is based on that, adjusted to the actual temperature. It may be slightly flat in the winter, and slightly sharp in the summer, and as long as the organ is within 4-5 cents (100ths of a semi-tone) we do not change the pitch from one season to another.
Great, most enjoyable to see and hear a great artist not only playing out of this world but enjoying it and really mastering the beast. Bravo friend. Play on! Oh Ethel Smith would be so happy for you. David Snyder, Lumierist. Creator of Heavy Organ Touring Productiuon
The pedal solo before the two-minute mark is Wilhelm Middelschulte's "Perpetuum Mobile" (after Bach's 'Wedge' Fugue) which Virgil Fox performed during organ recitals. While I enjoy the theater organ a great deal, I'm not terribly enamored with this performer's realization.
We all have different opinions about who is our favorite organist. This man is clearly a deft organ player so don't dislike it. Just stop fighting over it. We are humans, we don't all agree. That is why there is war.
Steve Eaklor also of Hammond-Suzuki in Addison Illinois. You can name of any music piece whether it be classical, popular or theatre organ related, and he can play it. Any player needs time to sit with an instrument to "feel it out" in order to give a great performance, which is what Steve is doing here.
Steve has an incredible command of the organ and has more orchestral comping skills than I've heard in a long time! Check out his Star Trek theme on the X66 ( he's wearing a white suit). The 2 minute video is also great and shows the true capabilities of the X66. So glad I just got one this week.
No more than Dali! Exceptional talent usually emerges from non-conformity, and when you practice 12-16 hours a day..well you get it. Virgil Fox practiced in his NJ home at the wee small hours of the morning. Great mini concert! Thanks.
Wow. I've heard people play theater organ this before but never like this. I'm in organist myself, the ending was amazing. Stop giving this guy heck. I believe that he is the best organist in the world. I know that there are couple things he messed up but everybody makes mistakes. I think I do know what he was trying to do And I think he is awesome. Whether he's on drugs or not
why are all you people taking pot shots at his skill? I like Bach and Wagner as much as the next Organist, but I still enjoy the Theatre Organ, its a brilliant instrument.
hearing this reminds me of being at Radio City Music hall, with their wonderful Wurlitzer pipe organ which many of still around, but now owned by Gibson guitar co,as is Baldwin piano, andd organ.I also love the church organs.they are similiar.and just as beautiful.
The pedal "felts" are worn out on the console. That's why the pedals are making so much noise when played. Greg Simanski, a local Chicago pipe organ technicain can re-felt those pedals properly so they will be silent when played.
to quote the late Eric Morcombe - "All the right notes, not necessarily in the right order". Could have been good but...... (And yes i am an organ player).
I will give him props for doing something i've have yet to try but always thought about doing and playing with both feet. not my particular kind of music but he's not bad(it's hard to give anyone the title THE BEST unless they participate in a WORLD CONTEST in whatever to make it official. P.S. and "OFFICIAL APPROVAL" doesn't mean ur actually THE BEST IN THE WORLD(someone could be better) but for the record books or officially ur deemed dat)
Very entertaining! To those of you who posted negative reactions, I can only say: it's real easy to criticize what you don't understand! Open your minds!
It is incredibly disappointing to see so many people picking on Mr. Eaklor. Does one’s appearance or manner of playing really matter that much? He is obviously very passionate about what he does- not just any enthusiast is so dedicated as to be able to play like him. How many of us can play at all? He is sharing what he loves and it is disgusting to be bashing someone else’s interests in the way so many people have been doing.
Aah, we need more wonderfully unique people like this in the world. The style is not my cup of tea (Bach is mine), however, he is very talented - excellent rhythm, momentum, assured harmonically, registration, etc. He definately plays the organ with balls and brain in balance. Bravo.
Thank you for posting this. As an aspiring organ player...it's only a dream to move my hands a little at a time. This was so entertaining to see the "fire" in the eyes...Thanks again.

Moody Dude he’s jamming

lol
His father not only still cuts his hair but also was the best morse code guy in all the armed forces.
1:48 That face
I'm more used to classical organ music ... this sounds like the theme song for a sinister circus.
yeah

welcome to church
the hair style adds +10 to music talent
He's just putting it through its paces. That's the equivalent of when a vocalist does "scatting."
I HAPPEN TO THINK THIS GUY IS QUITE INNOVATIVE WITH LOTS OF ENERGY. HIS PROFRESSIONS ARE GREAT AND HE DOES A WONDERFUL JOB. I HAVE BEEN A ORGANIST FOR 50 YEARS AND HE IS TALENTED. AMEN
yikes, i wonder if the guy who commented this has well, Y'know. Died?
you who give negative commenting here are really mean and ignoramus, do you play better yourself? this man playing here does really know his keys! do you know what he is doing?, he is being creative, you are not.

Before sound made its way on screen the largest cinema houses used to be equipped with organs…
He bashes and stamps hell out of the organ but there is no denying that he is good
I learnt to play a Wurlitzer & a Rutt theatre organ at the St.Alban's Organ Museum and to anyone who hasn't tried let me tell you, it's like trying to fly an aircraft you've never been in before - with you eyes SHUT!... Such a powerful and intimidating instrument. It's so epic
l seen this video before what a nice rich sound with all the bass pedals too when played right sounds wicked
I found a video on here of Steven Eaklor (the organist) playing the old Star Trek theme on a Hammond X-66. The best hammond organ playing, registrations, and drawknob changes that I have ever heard. You have to here this! Just type in Steven Eaklor in the search box.
FANTASTIC! I Love the combination of classical and theater pieces!

Also, watching his facial expressions made me laugh my ass off!
thank you for posting this Guy, I never heard of Seven Eakler until now, looked him up, great musician

I am into classic organs. That is what moves me, BUT this guy wasn't half bad. Theater Organs are almost gone. It's nice to see a few still going.
the restaurant Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa AZ has the 2nd largest theater organ in the world with 82 ranks and is still going id reccomend you visit if you can

dude if the instrument remained playable after this, but great rythm and music anyway!
Yes he is a good organist and he obviously makes himself as 'one' with the organ, thus 'that look' on his face. I have seen it before in other organists. I don't know if he is the world's best. It's just sufficient to say that he's talented.
It’s like Boris Johnson’s long lost twin lmfao

I always called the organ a giant typewriter as a child
Watching a bunch of orgin vids . Looking at the comments and never realized there is so many orgin snobs in the world🤣
*organ
I just came to see how many people corrected your spelling
He's great ! He is amazing !
Tico Tico...anyone remember Ethel Smith and the Hammond Organ playing with her high heels on the pedal board....nothing like throwing in a little Middleshulte alla Fox's rendition on pedals....he's a busy guy.. very talented for theater organ music...bravo..
Dude looks like a madd scientist, and he plays like one. LOL! In mean that in a good way! Bravo!
Takes me back to the old Metrodome where the twins played back then. Metrodome organ player did this between breaks all day. Hell when a popular twins batter came up as well.
Order this guy if you want to make a scary haunted house
This is the best video ever made!

The bloke who cuts his hair must logically be the world's best barber.
I never seen anybody like that on the pedals. This guy is a boss! As Isaac said, this was likely for fun and not during a worship service. It's hard to understand why some folk are bent out of shape about it.
Love this. What an entertainer! I think this guy use to work for someone like Hammond. Top talent!
He did work for Hammond.
That's Amazing and I saw his eyes about as focused as humanly possible .I ain't never seen or realy heard of an organ. To be able to use that many possible combination of keys and them pedals buttons to make sound I've never experienced without flaw.I heard no mistakes or slip of fingers. Maybe you should check into theater organ a bit more then, you'll probably find many more nice surprises! It's an amazing "machine"! :)
Fascinating and Beautiful - I'm still in shock at the barrage of amazing harmonies!

If you want to see some brilliant pedal work. have a look for Simon Preston playing Toccata Festiva. Also listen to his Bach Toccata & Fugue in D minor.
To be honest, who ever did "No Time For Caution" is probably the best XD
Good to see he can turn his hand to this fairground organ, fair play to him.
Damn he’s become the whole orchestra.
He is certainly gifted and I must admit he takes some beating with the foot pedals.
The organ is tuned to a pitch referred to as A-440 at 70 degrees Fahrenheit, assuming that the temperature setting was correct when the work was done, "Happy pitch" is one that is based on that, adjusted to the actual temperature. Amazing talent
the best organ destructor
To be honest with you: he isn't the best, or the fastest, but he is one of the greatest. I hope he still plays the organ, because it sounds great!
Great, most enjoyable to see and hear a great artist not only playing out of this world but enjoying it and really mastering the beast. Bravo friend. Play on! Oh Ethel Smith would be so happy for you.
David Snyder, Lumierist.

God he looks like a crazy person
If this guy has a gig sometimes and they put his picture on an ad, i probably wouldn't go. Holy shit this guy looks crazy... :D
Hey, I liked it. He 's a hoot and that comes from someone with a complete collection of Geroge Wright recordings.
He is amazing!
Omg so nice. I’m interested. On getting an organ
this guy is awesome!!!
I typed in "funkiest organ" and got something special.
We all have different opinions about who is our favorite organist. This man is clearly a deft organ player so don't dislike it. Just stop fighting over it. We are humans, we don't all agree. That is why there is war.

he looks like he needs to find a doc
He looked and played as if someone had wee'd on his chips!
Love this
I liked the small bit of Tico Tico. His face at one point (the view looking up) seemed like he was stamping a kitten down a drain.
Maybe not world's best, but no doubt talented. Very entertaining to watch!
I can see why there are so many memorable Swiss silent films.
No more than Dali! Exceptional talent usually emerges from non-conformity, and when you practice 12-16 hours a day..well you get it. Virgil Fox practiced in his NJ home at the wee small hours of the morning. Great mini concert! Thanks.
"Tico Tico" and Middelschulte's Perpetuum Mobile - interesting medley.
This man is really good. I see a piano in the background if I was there I would have joined in with this guy. :)
he isn't harassing your ears anymore than continued to watch it. If you don't like it then don't listen. You harassed your own ears.
Theatre organs have these instruments on them as real percussions.
Wow. I've heard people play theater organ this before but never like this. I'm in organist myself, the ending was amazing. Stop giving this guy heck. Not even the world's fastest, or the world's most accurate. The world's funniest looking?...oh ya got that nailed.
why are all you people taking pot shots at his skill? I like Bach and Wagner as much as the next Organist, but I still enjoy the Theatre Organ, its a brilliant instrument.
Because he's been set up by the poster as "the best in the world" - probably not his fault....

absolutley incredible....what an artist...what talent...
severus snape playing super mario kart rainbow road theme on an organ
Im stoned watching this! Chill!
who cares about being the best... everyone plays his own level. and this level is extremely high. I realy enjoyed this video very much.
Absolutely brilliant…!
He has great talent. But after decades of hearing rock, pop, and other genres, I'm used to that Hammond B3 sound.
there is no such thing as the best organist every organist has weaknesses!
WOW! What a ride. Wonderful.
The pedal "felts" are worn out on the console. That's why the pedals are making so much noise when played. Greg Simanski, a local Chicago pipe organ technicain can re-felt those pedals properly so they will be silent when played.
that's steven eaklor. the hammond XK3 and 'new' B3 are pretty much his design, internally. he's an odd man but very smart.
1:40 that sounds painful. Wow
Wurlitzer witch party
bach is the Best Organ Player
Definitely.
Michael Myers He'd have trouble playing now though.....
no he wouldn't Michael Myers
Yes, He would. He's been dead for centuries.
But he'd still be better than you
to quote the late Eric Morcombe - "All the right notes, not necessarily in the right order".
Could have been good but...... (And yes i am an organ player).
