Except some people can get very severe tearing from birth. If people can do it naturally, then that is great! But, we definitely don't have it the easiest when compared with other mammals. We are passing an overly large head, through our very small pelvis. I don't agree with guilting or pressuring mothers to give pain free and naturally. So many don't have a choice and need to have c sections, and some can't cope with the pain. It doesn't matter how anyone gives birth, as long as the mother and baby are OK at the end. That is ALL that matters. And I hope no mother pressures themselves with this.

@@nothanks1239except that most times tearing is not the vagina’s fault but incompetent medical staff, I know from experience… and advocating for natural births is not guilting those who didn’t have that option

@@wendymtzc How is it the medical staff that caused the tearing? 🤔 Mother guilt is a real thing. At the end of the day, saying things like the above, does cause guilt. I just don't agree with glorifying one method of birth; we should be showing support to everyone and all their experiences, because it is so easy to trigger post partum depression with stuff like this. Hormones can really mess people up.

@@nothanks1239 we each are responsible of our own mental health, and educating women on natural birth is NOT guilting, let’s stop pretending that by educating on natural child birth we are seeking to offend someone… hospitals force moms to give birth on their backs, they know very little about providing adequate perineal support, they ask moms to push super hard (when most times this is not needed at all), practice unnecessary episiotomies, etc.

I had my first baby natural delivery. And I’m 38+2 of my second. The whole labour of my first last for 36 hours and it took me 26 hours to get to the Active labour stage. I think all the following helped me to get a full natural birth as a planned although I wanted an epidural but the environment of a natural birth with song, essencial oil, dark light, gas, tens machine and hot shower. And, of course the support of my midwife and husband really gave that extra strength to achieve it. It’s amazing to feel the power of our body to birth a life. This is a gift from God regardless the way weather it’s CSection, natural or medicated, heads up to all mamas ❤️ I hope for a water birth this time, but it’s God’s will at the end of the day 🙏🏽

See I'm the opposite when it comes to motivation for natural birth. My mom got an epidural and C-section, and my mom's mom got all c sections. I want to break that cycle so to speak, haha. I'm praying for a natural birth because there are so many benefits

I had my baby daughter at home 13 days ago. It was a long labor, but I was able to ride it. The last four hours were the hardest, especially because I didn't realize I was at the end, so as it got a lot harder I thought I still had a long time left to go. The midwife only got here 10 minutes before my daughter was born. She came out with my first push. We had a birthing pool, which made that push a lot easier. My biggest takeaway from my labor is that I will never judge any person who gives birth. It's so hard - each person has my support however they birth. I'm also really grateful I was able to give birth at home.

Thanks for all your video's Bridget. I watched a lot of them in the lead up to my daughters birth 3 weeks ago. I had a natural unmedicated birth and am glad I was so lucky (It was only 2 hours). The tips I had were: In the 3-4 weeks leading up to the birth I had weekly prenatal massage and acupuncture appointments, relaxed in the local heated gym pool with massage jets. On a daily basis, I was drinking raspberry leaf tea, taking evening primrose oil and on the day before the birth I diffused Clary Sage essential oils. When I went to bed that night I listed to a Hypnosis for Labour induction (for a girl) video on UA-cam. That night I went into labour at 1.08am, I noticed that my waters had broken, woke my husband and called the hospital, they said to come in so and we got to hospital (via taxi) at 1.44am. The midwife met us at the doors and we went straight to the birthing room. She took my bloods and then checked me at about 2.30am and said "That's crazy, I see in your notes that you wanted an Epidural, but you're already 8cm dilated, there's not time for one, your baby will be here in 20 minutes". She offered me opioid based drugs which I firmly said "No thank you, I can do 20 min". And my daughter arrived at 3.11am. (4 days before her due date). A perfect little human! 2725g and 46cm. I was due to be induced a week later due to my diet-controlled Gestational diabetes.

You really need to write a sex education curriculum. I'm serious. Our whole society incessantly propagandizes us into a childbirth as such a traumatic experience that is destructive to the "fragile" body. Movies tend to reinforce this, and it seems like education is all about "this could go wrong, or this could go wrong, or this can happen, and this could go wrong."
It's refreshing to hear a version of the childbirth story of "here's what a healthy childbirth looks like." "Here's a healthy mentality to have about it." "Here's how you can listen to your body and use that information (which I think an anesthetic would numb) to steer the process and achieve a better result." This information would definitely be much better if it were incorporated into a sex ed curriculum.

During a surge (aka contraction), I found it really helpful while standing to do clockwise circles with your hips to help pass the surge along. Also, I focus on releasing all tension from the rest of my body and taking long, deep breaths. I also went through the hypnobirthing class before my first birth and it’s helped me for all of my births.
I have had all home natural births for my 4 kids. It’s really amazing to be fully present and in tune with your body throughout the entire birth of your baby.

Use of a warm bath or shower beating on my back. I got to 8 cm just by using the shower for pain management. They wanted to check me or i would if stayed longer in the shower ( and probably delivered there.

    1) Find the reason why you want an all natural/unmedicated birth (something that will stick with you during your labour).
    2) Learn about your body’s anatomy & all the things it can do in order for you to have a baby.
    3) The power of your mind over your body (mind is calm = body is calm)
    4) Learn about the process of labour (helps you to determine how far you are in labour).
    5) Have people in the room to encourage & advocate for you 🥰

@@makeuppurgatory3413 the contractions hurt it's labor you feel the pain more in the contractions then pushing. Also if you have a bigger baby the crowning can be painful but women are strong a lot of women give up because as your dilated more like let's say 7 to 8 cm those contractions are deeper then the ones that just come when you start to notice it that your in labor for example if ur water breaks or if not but u still able to move around but you notice ur getting small contractions. Honestly it's the best like my oldest daughter was bigger so the crowning was painful but my youngest was smaller so I didn't even feel the crowning. As your labor goes more into the 7 to 8 contractions that's when you feel those deep contractions pain. And a lot of women get the epidural at around 5 to 6 maybe we can even say 7-8 cm dilated because that's when they say fuck this it's hurting a lot

Are you saying that unmedicated births are better because you feel like you give birth faster? If so, I find that interesting because I've been following doctors online and they've said that it's a myth that painkillers slow down labor. And this particular doctor I'm thinking of delivered vaginally with an epidural. Who do I believe? I guess every mom and every experience is different.

My last couple births ( I'm pregnant with #7) having them check me caused me to go into panic mode. As each time despite being in immense pain I hadn't progressed much. I almost got my first epidural with my sixth child when they checked me and I was only at a 4 but having the worst contractions. Thankfully my husband saw that I was further then I thought, and my nurse was great and realized I must be progressing quickly so she checked again and I was at an 8 ( about 15 min after being checked at a 4)
I've learned with my body not to trust the numbers but the pain level. If I feel like I'm having transition contractions, then I am, even if the numbers don't agree.

Loved revisiting this. it gave me the strength to get through my first labor naturally and unmedicated. And now revisiting it, I thought it may be helpful to add a few things that helped that I didn't know! The monitor that they place on your belly tracks the contractions so you can visually see them on the screen for their duration, kind of like an earthquake monitor showing the length and intensity so you know when it's going to end. That was so helpful for me to watch as I breathed through each contraction. Another thing that my practitioner gave me was just regular IV fluids. I could literally feel the difference in my body when a bag would run out. The second they connected a new one, I would feel this rush of strength again through my body. Two big things I never heard or read about that helped me achieve mine.

I just wanted to add one single comment about natural birth vs epidural/pain control. My first labor was *back labor.* By the time I was 4-5cm dilated, I gave up & got an epidural. It was and still is mind boggling how intense that pain was in my back and unlike belly labor- it remained, so my back hurt like it was being crushed the entire time and got worse during contractions.
In contrast, my last labor- no shorter I might add- 12 hours, was natural but all belly labor. I could manage it. It was very much like waves. But I got breaks in between and could manage it. Even at the most intense.
Just wanted to address the difference.

Hello Briget, I am so grateful to watch your videos before my labor, they are so informative and helped me a lot. Still, I have something very important to mention, and I hope that you could elaborate more on it in some of your videos. I am talking about the difference between labour pain from the front part of the body, which is the uterus and why women can handle it sometime quite easily, while the back pain of labour which is extremely intense make women may feel disasperat because they couldn't avoid the epidural, they may feel less powerful thank other who actually did nit even experience this type of pain. So, it is not a question of pain tolerance but more of where the pain is..... and why when it is in the back, it is almost impossible to avoid the epidural....?
I myself have experienced both back and front pain, the latter was easily bearable, I reached 3 cm of dilatation without feeling that much pain, i didn't need any epidural, I even stayed home until I reached it with no problem. but when it came to the second time with the back pain, starting from 2 cm of dilatation ( I was already in the hospital with intense contraction that equal same pain of 10 cm) I felt that I was dying to an extent that I asked my gynecologist to have a c section before I faint and lose consciousness, the pain was so extreme, thank GOD ( alhamdolilah) my baby's heart was still beating until I got the epidural and start pushing 30 minutes later...

Sure its common in the states to have an epidural and nothing to go wrong from it but I can't trust that nothing will go wrong with it, I.e. the doctor not getting the needle in right or by body reacting really bad to it. I just know that my body was made to have babies so why would I not trust it. That all being said I am scared of giving birth in general as most women are.

I feel exactly the same! I feel like it's more scary to have the needle and the actual medication than pushing the baby out lol! Just remember you're made to do this. We've been brought up to believe birth is something dangerous and scary. While it can be in some cases, for the most part it's completely natural and awesome. I'm on my first as well, but I'm really manifesting that positive mindset!

I’m 14 weeks. Due in August.
I’ve been through so much in life. I’m 5 years sober from drugs and alcohol. Getting sober was THE hardest thing I’ve ever done and for me, giving birth is similar to that. I am very in tuned with my body and my mother had 4 children naturally, I know I can do it. I do ant to prove to myself that I can do it and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. This is my rainbow baby I lost a baby in October that I never got to give birth tho. That is another reason I want to naturally birth this child! I also believe God made our bodies for this purpose and I am actually very excited to birth! I am not afraid of the pain, I’m more afraid of something going wrong and am working on fighting that fear.

The biggest things that helped me is knowing the phases of labor, breathing, and relaxing. If you have a medical emergency or cannot withstand the pain please do not shame yourself. People who learn these principles and go on to “achieve an all natural birth” conclude it was cause and effect. Those of us who learn these things and go into birth fully supported and without fear but then do not “achieve” it draw a different conclusion. It is great not to be afraid, great to have a living and supportive environment, but that does not guarantee pain free, safe, or “all natural” birth.

Same! Just had my baby and caved in to most requests because I was hurting so bad and just wanted to “get it over with,” since they made me feel crazy for wanting to go natural. Yes it was at a hospital where literally every nurse and doctor comes in and says you’re gonna need an epidural because it will hurt so bad. But it’s okay next time I’ll save up for a midwife/birthing center birth I believe it is worth it.

It's really hard to listen to this from someone who has a completely different body than mine. I'm 16w2d. I want to have an unmedicated birth. My mother had tremendous complications giving birth to me, I was sideways and 3 weeks late, plus she got Hep C from the hospital blood transfusion. I didn't see my mother for the first 2 weeks of my life she was so sick.
It's worth noting that she was 38 when she had me, and now I'm 38 having my first child, a girl.
I also know that many plus sized women get coerced into C sections that are unnecessary.
I wish I could hear from some women who look like me about this experience of unmedicated birth.

My pain was so intense but it never reached a 10/10 on pain, because it did not make me cry... I'm also very tolerant of pain. In comparison both my husband and I had tooth surgery the same day at the same time, I had 2 removed and he had one. He finished all his meds for pain while I just took 1 or 2 and didn't want the rest because they made me feel so dizzy, awful feeling, he was basically crying... and wondering how in the hell was I so comfortable without pain meds?... that being said. Labor and delivery was a bit more painful than the tooth surgery. Also I was doing hipno the whole time of the labor. I did ask for 1/2 a dose of medication through ivy right towards the end... so I did it almost cleared of meds... I'm proud of that 1/2 dose though because I took it and because I didn't take the whole thing. This next birth I will take it by the time my pain goes to a 6-7/10...

You mean How i had a normal birth😀 ????. It is sad that humanity has reached a point where we think we cannot give birth without painkillers. For centuries women did without it and gave birth to alot more kids than we did. Painkillers are actually contributing to issues like bad tearing and pelvic damage because women are out of touch with their bodies in the childbirth process. In the Netherlands ,a developed country, they actually encourage labour without painkillers but of course you do have a choice. I plan on sucking it up and going natural.

Thanks to your breathing vids I made it laboring (I labor on all 4s, on the toilet and standing up and swaying, I used lavender oil and the shower to calm me and soothing music) at home to 8 cm and had to rush to the hospital at 3am and when I got to labour ward at 4am was 10cm push 3 times with the urge to push contraction and she was here … my labour was confusing because just that morning at my mon weekly obgyn appointment my doc told me my cervix was closed or barely a one after an intense cervical exam And I was booked for induction the sun if nothing didn’t happen so when these cramps started around 2 pm first half hr growing closer together as the day went on I didn’t know I was in labor they felt like period cramps that were slowly increasing in intensity and closer apart… what made me head out to hospital at 3am was they grew strong with Braxton hix was 2min apart and I feel pressure in my butt … I live 10 mins from the hospital asked for pain meds in the labour ward but couldn’t get any because I was @ 9cm

Due in 6 weeks, hoping for all natural! My mom did it, but I have chronic pain in my back and hips so I’m unsure if I’ll be able to handle it. Pray that I can, supposedly she’s already really big...

@@aann7132 thank you for asking. Didn’t go anywhere near plan. I went into labor 3 days before my induction date, and was in labor for 30 hours before the Dr told me even with Pitocin I was not dilating enough and had to have a c-section. I tried so hard to have a natural birth. Recovery is rough. Today makes 2 weeks and I’m finally just now able to get up and down out of chairs and the bed myself without being in huge amounts of pain. She’s healthy though, so that’s what counts..

@@emanelobaid1893 It was so so so good,i did end up geting epidural but i did put all my power in to deliverig naturaly but at 6cm i was so exsousted that if i didnt take epidural and took little sleep i wouldnt be abel to push 3 hours later, but other then that delivery was pretty fast for first pregnancy only 6 hours of hole labor and 35 min of pushing,i did relax mayself as mouch as i could i did walk until my contraction was starting to get too painful,i did shower so all those things worked for me to deliver faster 🤷🏽‍♀️🙆🏽‍♀️

I think the only thing you didn't mention i think was the breathing technique. You did a full video on breathing techniques and I fully utilised your technique while giving birth last year, and definitely will do the same technique again this year. It helped me sooooooo much throughout my labour, I literally was able to stay at home for most of my labour, and when I got to the hospital I was already 9cm dilated. So within the next hour I had my baby in my arms. So thank you sooooo much for the video. It really helped me 🥰🥰🥰🥰
