  • One would only have these tools in order to run a coin ring business. Not really to make one or two rings, or have a hobby. To make one or a few rings can be done without any of these fancy tools. C my earlier vids on how to do it.

      Agreed, I know what you mean. It's just like showing a machine that throws out 100s of rings a minute. Yeah they cost more but in comparison to the average joes tool box this is not relevant! Fair enough if you want to drop a grand on ring stretchers, different punch sizes, files etc and all the other bits and bobs.
      But who does? its easy enough to make a couple of these rings, and to be honest, who wants more than that? If they don't sell, it a waste of money, unless you REALLY enjoy it. If you do, fair play to ya, and have fun ;-)

    No. Buying a shitload of tools is just an option. My earlier vids go over how to do it with a $15 mandrel and a mallet. Or even simpler, a drill and a claw hammer. The tools u c in this vid just speed up the process, and maintain consistancy. The desire is really all that is required

I am interested in selling coin rings at flea markets and summer festivals. There is no way I am gonna spend an hour on a ring and sell it for $20. This is stupid western over compensation for lack of skill and creativity.
      Go to poor places an find many an old man using just a little hammer and a bit of solder and some leather for polishing. make you any ring, any design for a small fee.
      Out west the manufacturing ability has become lost.
      All relying on tools and machinery. High costs to manufacture crap.
      The consumer then bears the grunt of it with high priced goods.

      Of course a beneficial addition would be welcomed.. you clearly missed my pointy though.
      That this channel has over compensated beyond what is economical.
      Sure he "has a tool for every job" but just like in society...
      When that industry (his trade) becomes obsolete, so does all them tools.
      The individual... Will then find that his tools were the trade.. as he relied on them heavily.
      While little old man who achieved just about anything with just a hammer... Retains almost all skill and passes it on quite easily...
      For it was skill of mind and determination through repetition, which gave him all his ability.

      Your statements are a correct quotation of law- but your quotations are applied incorrectly.
      You are attempting to apply a law that was written to prevent counterfeiting paper currency to coinage. He is not changing the stated valuation (face value) of the coinage. Please keep in mind- rare coins!
      A buffalo nickle has an intrinsic value of 5 cents- however the numismatic value is much higher.

    • @falcon7350
      @falcon7350 9 років тому +1

      hum it is hard to tell when looking up defacing of government property
      if you go by what you say
      U.S. Title 18, Chapter 17, Section 331: Prohibits among other things, fraudulent alteration and mutilation of coins. This statue does not, however, prohibit the mutilation of coins if done without fraudulent intent if the mutilated coins are not used fraudulently.
      but Technically it is a crime to deface currency by some other parts of the law
      like the local zoo, and other city parks well have these machines that you put pennies in and you crank them through a device that stretches them and puts a print on them. This is illegal as well, but no one seems to be too concerned. as long as its in small numbers
      giving you have a really big cup full and can show how good you are at doing it makes your case on saying it as a hobby hard
      truth be told i am like you . . . and can only go by what i find on the internet .. so i really dont know if it is or is not
      not a troll at all here .. just cant find the right info to back up that its ok and find more info on saying its not ok then ok .. giving you have been doing this for some time i think you would know more then me on this one

    • @JHess
      @JHess 9 років тому

      falcon7350 it's not hard to tell at all. it says it right in the section many times. "fraudulent". what it means is that if you intend to commit fraud with what you are doing then it is illegal.

      If someone comes and fixes your furnace in 5 minutes because he spent his life fixing furnaces, he's still going to charge you for an hour plus driving time. You're paying for every ring he made and every ring that failed while he learned to make them.

      Depends on where you are as to if it’s illegal, up here in Canada it is against the law to willfully destroy currency.
      As American law was pointed out to me the money belongs to the person that holds it. Therefore y’all can burn it bury it use it for a boat anchor or use it to trade for goods, and, or services

    • @toastbusters7797
      @toastbusters7797 8 років тому +5

      No. destroying legal tender is not illegal unless you are destroying the currency to turn it into something that is worth more than the currency itself and intend on using the defaced currency for illicit purposes. In other words, for example: if I were to turn a 1 dollar bill into a 100 dollar bill that would be illegal. But drawing a mustache on the face of George Washington that is printed on the bill is not illegal.

    • @idraw4bux
      @idraw4bux 7 років тому +1

      As long as you are not destroying currency for fraudulent reasons. As long as the coin will be taken out of circulation once converted to the ring (which it will be), it can be altered. I thought the same thing but after speaking generally with an attorney acquaintance and also consulting with my attorney found this info to be incorrect. They both explained it the same way.

    I've never said this, like ever, but Mind Blown! All these other vids are great when they're hammering away for hours, but this is just beyond cool :)
    A few questions, if you don't mind:
    - For any coins that have traces of copper or other metals like nickel, what coating would you add, if there exists any coating, so the metal won't absorb into the skin and cause allergic reactions?
    - Is it worth it to buy all those tools to make a business out making coin rings?
    Thank you, sir. You, are awesome.

    • @fencekid

      I have not found a way to "permanently" seal these rings. I can protect it for a while, but it eventually wears off. Last thing I tried was "Protectaclear" It's like a clear resin that is baked onto the ring. Lasts longer than anything I've tried and You more or less wear through it, opposed to it flaking off. The last question you asked would have everything to do with your ambition. And You don't need all these tools, but they sure help speed things up. Good luck Man
