    I've always thought this was an underrated song. So glad to see you reacting to it. It's got some Western nostalgia to the sound, then the "honky-tonk" bluesy sound comes in and kicks ass. Such a cool song.

    Believe it or not (but it's true), the fella who's roping our boys is J.W. Stoker. He was a famous rodeo and movie trick roper, rider and stunt double. He is inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame. Just after this came out in 1979/80, I was a professional rodeo barrel racer and was competing at quite a few of the rodeos where JW was performing. He hired me to bring him his ropes in his act and to stand in the middle of the arena and jump while he roped me. He would be blindfolded or facing backwards or doing different things on a horse when he did it. He was very good. It was lots of fun and I made some extra spending money.

    There is so much of Jeff's young heart in this song. What's cool is he's a Brit and wanted to be a cowboy of the old west. There's something so sweet about that. What beautiful song and I enjoyed watching you discover it.

    Thank you Harri for reacting to this song definitely one of their best from the fantastic album Out Of The Blue It's also kind of bittersweet for me because it was a promotional video showcasing the ELO definitive lineup of when ELO was at it's very best still a couple of other cuts on this album I hope you react to such as Birmingham Blues (Jeff's homage to his home town) Jungle a quirky little gem that hardly ever gets reacted to and It's Over a Roy Orbison flavored song ( and yes Orbison was a big influence) maybe my good friend Cosmo can hook me up Once again Harri thank you for giving all of us the pleasure of listening to the Finest Rock band ever from THE BIGGEST ELO FAN

    Jeff Lynne has written a treasure chest full of songs backed aided and abetted by wonderful musicians and this is one of so many gems contained within. Genius and a gift to humanity. Once again, thanks to you both Harri and Cosmo 👍😊

    This was a hit when I was 10 years old and I loved it, because as you say, most boys would, and it's remained a favourite for nostalgic reasons. It's nice to finally see someone react to it; I was becoming a conspiracy theorist about why certain songs are ignored by reactors!

    Great track. I used to watch the old cowboy serials, and wanted to be a wild west hero. This song resonates. It's taken from the Out of the blue album, a great collection of tracks!

    This video is a hoot, love the horse too, ha ha....what fun, and that is a real horse and cowboy roper, LOL...has to be used to the noise. And I usually rooted for the Indians and the horses, ha. The old western movies, and that was in a simpler time when it was either good or bad, no in between. And this, maybe more civilized earth is coming again, hang on...we are going into the Age of Aquarius and new earth! Going through the Great Awakening now!

    Great deep cut off the all-time classic LP Out of the Blue. Jungle is another one as well as the instrumental The Whale Song. My two favourite ELO albums, by far, are Out of the Blue and A New World Record. Not a bad tune on either.

    This isn't the first song that Jeff Lynne wrote about the American Wild West, in 1969, when Jeff was the leader of The Idle Race, he wrote a song from the native American's point of view called "Big Chief Woolly Bosher". It is on UA-cam, why not give it a listen?

    Without a doubt, this song is in my top 5 E.L.O. songs and most likely second place. I've always loved it, ever since buying the double vinyl back in 1977. Such a dynamic song. Good pick from both of you guys.

    This was one of my least favorite songs from Out Of The Blue when it was released in 1977. I thought it was overblown and overproduced. Today, it’s one of my top 10 all-time favorite ELO songs. I love everything about it, especially his Roy Orbison vocal build ups. I don’t know what happened. The live version from his more recent tours is fantastic, too.

    • @frankmcbride7051
      @frankmcbride7051 2 роки тому +1

      I took the same path. I don't think I love it like you do, but it's grown on me over time. Back then I thought it didn't fit the rest of the album's feel. Not for being overproduced, the whole album was produced mightily and I loved it. It just seemed like a forced cliche' and a week ending for what I consider a great double album. I would have rather sides 3 and 4 be swapped with Mr. Blue Sky and the Concerto wrap up being the end of all. Please turn me over would have been more puzzling, but I didn't understand what was being said back then anyway.

    Hello Harri, Have you decided to renege on your dip into Talk Talk that you promised me just over a week back? You thanked me for reminding you and promised it would be on it's way. I even advised you to start with something from 'The Colour Of Spring album, preferably track one. Could you please give me some idea as to what your plans are regarding this very special band? Thanks.

      The Concerto For A Rainy Day consists of 4 songs, not 2. In order they are: "Standin' In The Rain", "Big Wheels", "Summer and Lightning", and, "Mr. Blue Sky". Harri's already reacted to all 4 songs, albeit one at a time. They can be found in his video archives, along with another 37 ELO songs.
