Chewing these might just end my eating using my real teeth career. That being said, if I find these somewhere, I think I'll TRY to let them dissolve. They're a blend of unsweetened spices - you can easily taste the menthol in the spice mix, as well as ginger and other more aromatic spices. There's definitely a hint of perfume to them, which was very popular in other breath freshening mints during the early 1900s. They're coated with edible silver flakes. I can't eat more than 3-4 at a time, they're quite overpowering.

The product itself is interesting, for sure. The assembly line, though, that is something else… a lot of work went into all that bottle manipulation on those conveyors, almost like a Rude Goldberg machine but actually useful
I was also fascinated by their machines. The only thing that confused me was the labeling process. Why not put the logo sticker while the bottle is standing up, then lay it down, and apply the rear sticker? Right now they lay the bottle down, put a rear sticker, back upright, logo sticker, and back down to packaging. Seems like they wasting time/one cycle. I have to be missing something. Fascinating manufacturing process regardless.
I still eat Jintan as a nice way to get rid of bad breath (essential after a Curry or Vindaloo), and just because it's odd. I picked up this habit because a couple of tsubu are enough to quell any bad smell of my own mouth or anyone else riding on the Tokaido-sen with me into Tokyo......or should I say, I can't smell their bad breath. Now, I didn't realize these tsubu are covered with Silver (Ag). I thought it was Aluminum or some cheap metal. It makes me appreciate them even more. I hope Morishita never goes out of business.

My girlfriend would not kiss me after a Jintan, she hated the smell! They were sold in green plastic envelopes or small round plastic cases with small openings to dispense a single ball.

後期高齢者です。小生が小学生の頃、祖父の背広のポケットに、セルロイド製の仁丹の容器がありました。祖父も愛用していました。祖父、父、小生と今も愛用しています。♪「ジンジンジンジンジンタカタッタ～」ラジオのＣＭが懐かしです。それほど歴史ある薬品です。

ウチのジッジはこれを水銀やで！って言ってて、後に始皇帝や歴史の人物も水銀を飲んでたって習って「ウチのジッジもやで！」って言ったら少し騒動になりましたね･･･
仁丹の丹の字は中国の伝説の不老薬から取ったそうですが、
かつては水銀が採れた辰砂という鉱物を指す言葉でもあったので強ち大外れでもないところが何とも…
因みにコーティングのシルバーは食用銀箔で、
丸薬の保存性を上げる目的で付けているそうなので安全に服用できるようです。
