Out of my 8 years of FT… thankfully only twice have mice seized control of my RV. It was truly a battle to the death. In one night i trapped 15! Hardly slept cuz i had to keep resetting the traps. One time ended up running the generator for noise pollution and left the underbody lights on all night. I think it helped, but on that note…. Bet Kyle doesn’t have any mice with all that generator running. 😂 So glad to not have a Class A anymore. So much harder for them to get into my all aluminum and enclosed trailer.
It was just an experiment (a bad experiment) and they definitely were not sturdy enough! I quickly replaced them. We’ve never parked anywhere that unlevel.
lol it was me with the mice! I’m so glad I read the report from the dealer after my service! The mice seem to always get into the oddest places for us! 😢
This is all campers. Mice are everywhere out there. Leave your truck for several hours and then go feel how warm the engine is. That's why they are there. It's the warmest place around. Get a light and leave the hood partly open so the engine cools to the same outside. Now they don't care. I use a mouse repeller light and sound that connects to the battery. Hang it over the engine area.
I heard about this issue and have been doing a lot of online searching on the topic. Anywhere you park can have rodents or creepy callers. I plan to take pinesol or ammonia with me to place in open containers (fume factor) under my vehicle and spray on areas around it. Peppermint repels rodents and spiders, but it has no effect on snakes or bears. In fact, bears like peppermint. Both ammonia and pinesol (NEVER mix them!) supposedly repel them all. You have to be sure to spray the tires, too. Another thing I plan to get is usb rechargeable units that you can set under the hood and at other entry points. Between the flashing lights and vibrations, it makes the vehicle inhospitable for nesting. It would cost more to get wiring redone in my 2004 vehicle than the blue book value, and it currently needs 2 catalytic converters and the radiator replaced... so I am taking precautions by protecting the wiring!
Kyle keeps the flashing strobes in his engine compartment which has worked well, though he got some in the back of his truck after leaving trash for a day or two while at the boondocking spot. He also leaves out mouse traps and catches a bunch outside the camper. We’ve been “lucky” so far and haven’t had any issues. Thanks for the tip on the Peppermint - that’s interesting! We always look for natural ways over poisons where we can.
eBay has mouse blockers for twelve volt and 110 house applications. I’m not trying to sell them for anyone. I’m just saying they work. Mice 🐭 caused over 1,300 dollars damage to our truck before I found mouse blockers.
Wow, I’ve heard they can do quite the damage! We have been fortunate that we haven’t had any issues all year whereas they heavily got the people near us. I know it’s only a matter of time though.
LOL mice! We have both mice and bats living in our farmhouse with us. Along with a gazillion insects. It's Costa Rica! We've gotten used to it. Part of life here is co-existing with nature. We do have a herd of cats, though, in hopes that predation will keep the rodent population in check.
Keeping the rodents in check hopefully “helps” with the snakes too! We lucked out, no mice in our truck or rig whereas all other three rigs had issues.
Really? I knew they chewed through the wiring, supposedly because they like what’s used for the insulation material. I had not heard they would chew through tires as well.
I totally understand the convenience of using plastic totes under stabilizers while camping. As outdoor enthusiasts, we all have our go-to tricks! By the way, if you're looking for reliable outdoor gear and home backup power products, yo
What strategies have you used to get rid of uninvited guests while boondocking?
You mean Kyle? I tell him the Browns suck.
The Browns, the Hawks, the Buckeyes… pretty much all of his teams 😀
@@theaustinstravel Exactly! I admire his dedication to mediocre!
🤣

I'm surprised the totes held up to the weight. Bad Mice! I friended you also. Safe travels.

Mice and rodents can be a BIG problem. Been there.... I've tried peppermint oil and all sorts of ideas to no avail. Great views of Colorado!
Hahaha, you guys are ridiculous 😝 We forgot the shovel rule once when we first moved into our new rig. Only once though! 😅
We should have learned our lesson after you guys had the problems in California - but sadly we didn’t!
Great video. Very humorous!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I think a few people took it a bit too seriously 😁

Did you end up seeing any at the site farther back that you went to?
@@theaustinstravel I was catching two a day 😂😂
Only ever in the engine compartment of the truck, never in the trailer!

We’ve been lucky so far and avoided them - I will likely get a light for the engine when we head to Arizona though

Pack rats will eat the sidewalls of your tires! If you hear chewing in the middle of the night!!

Plastic totes under stabilisers huh? YUP, YOU ARE AMERICAN!
It’s a good thing you’ve never done anything dumb in your life without thinking about it…
@@theaustinstravel I do dumb all the time, that went right to completely stoopid
