I saw Arnold telling a story about How early on in their Friendship Andre had all the Money & Arnold was still broke so Andre would pick up the Tab all the time. After Arnold made it big He never let Andre get the Tab for Dinner or drinks again. He would sneak the Money to the Waiter and when Andre found out he would get all mad & be like "Ooh Arnold!" and Pick Arnold up like a little Doll and shake him while Arnold laughed. :)
Supes Me - I heard some wrestler witnessed two other wrestlers kick sand (or throw water) on andre at the bench and he ran after them picking one guy up and then running after the next guy still carrying the other wrestler, and once getting both, he threw them in the ocean like they were kids and it was the only time he lashed out in anger.
Could you imagine listening to Arnold and Andre talking about the good ole days? Be pretty cool if you could understand what the hell they were saying.
Andre once pushed a car over with 4 people inside. His strength without even lifting weights was incredible, can you imagine if he was a gym rat he’d be setting world records left right & centre
Andre was naturally incredibly strong especially in aspects where he could put his weight into it. He's known for kicking in a door that had locked and trapped one of the regular wrestlers. His lifting got worse and worse though because his back was completely ruined. Towards the end he could hardly even walk. In the movie Princess Bride he had to catch her, but his back couldn't handle even a tiny lady like that, so they had to have her on wires. His height and weight was always embellished too. Wrestling tends to lie about these things to make the giants sound even bigger. He'd wear lifts in his boots to give him a little extra height and so on.
From my knowledge andre didnt even lift seriously or workout if andre worked out seriously hed be a beast. He was so huge that he didnt need to be a ripped bodybuilder.
At the time of that pic, Andre was the biggest wrestling draw. However, he was on a decline by then. His health issues were making him grow outward by then which is why you can see his posture is slightly bent. Look at all the photos. The pictures without Wilt and Arnold are from his younger days when the disease was making him grow upward.
To be fair Andre did shrink a lot over the years and I don't know how much he shrank by this time but at the time of his death he's reported to have shrunk down to 6'10. I think Andres max was about 7'2 in his youth
You would be right smoke and mirrors Wilt was a true 7’1 the other two although great in their own right were made up Hollywood style I personally stood next to Arnold at his movie premiere of Maggie and if he was even 6’ tall that would e pushing it
That's actually bullshit. I'm not sure if you were being serious or not but every once in a while someone says some celebrity is really short when they're not.
It's so sad to see how aesthetic elite bodybuilding was back in them day's. As much as I respect the phil heaths and jay cutlers they are not aesthetic at all! Classic physique will soon take over!!!
Wilt Chamberlin who is in many of the pictures was 7' foot 2 inches tall and is clearly taller than Andre. I do believe Andre was an honest 7 footer though.
john butz He was 7-4 in his youth he had a spinal surgery which left him between 6-10 to 7 feet. Also he was naturally strong but kept losing strength throughout his life.Reason being he didn't get his pituatory gland operated because he didn't know it was causing problems ,then he never followed a proper training and diet regimen kept gaining weight while his bones kept getting damaged also probably loosing muscle inside . If you look at the Big show he was lucky he got operated then started losing weight once it was a hindrance and he's some 350lbs now.
In one pic Wilt looks slightly taller than Andre however there 2 other pic in the video shows Andre looks taller than Wilt .keep in mind Andre was hunching and you can see his knees are bent due to pain all iver his body and Wilt is standing erect. So if Wilt is 7. 2 Andre would be at least 7.3 .
Uncle Big Boobs Bear yeah he was 6"11 when he died mostly due to his condition and surgeries changing his spinal posture. I believe he was around 7"1 in his prime before he got older and his condition progressed. WWE always exaggerate heights Andre was never 7"5.
I met Arnold. I'd guess he's about 6' today. Probably 6'1.5" in his younger years. Andre was never 7'5". That was his billed height. He was actually 7'0 - 7'2 max. At the time of his death he had shrunk to 6'10.
If you look at older pictures of him he was probably around 7'2" at his max when he was 19 years old but these pics are of when he was 35 so im sure he lost a few inches with time and all the punishment he took over the years
@King Carriere people are getting thrown off by his proportions not his height........ from everything i ever seen of andre in comparisons he was 7 foot 1 inch at best but he was so thick everywhere it throws people off....plus he had the big afro
Check GS Andres toes were off the floor and all of the weight was on his heals doing that, so I doubt it was a styrofoam block or he would’ve fallen over backwards, it was probably decently heavy, but not 2000lbs.
+Levi Ellenwood You're absolutely right. I never realized that he could have done that earlier in his life. I change my mind. I think he did do it. However, "Andre the Giant" was a character that came about later in his life, so it depends on what we mean when we say, "Andre the Giant."
Hey folks we are forgetting the third person in that those pictures. It is said that Wilt Chamberlain beached 600 lbs in his prime and 460 lbs. in retirement.(that may have been in from his 40s to early 60s). I think his remarkable strength was witness by Arnold.. Nonetheless I enjoyed Arnold vs Andre...
Nick, check out Angus "Giant" MacAskill, who was born in Scotland in 1825 and moved to Nova Scotia in 1831. He was a true giant at 7 feet 9 inches and weighed up to 500 lbs. He is said to have the largest chest measurement ever recorded for a non obese person at 80 inches.
Gaso, there is a museum in Englishtown, Cape Breton Nova Scotia dedicated to him. It is crazy to stand next to a figure of him. Died after being injured from lifting a ship anchor.
Schwarzenegger alluded that both the giant and Chamberlain were stronger than he was. In fact he mentioned that Chamberlain was surprisingly strong. (No one is surprised that Andre was super strong....)
the real big man is on the right. Wilt Chaimberlain who was 7 foot 1 was pound for pound most likely the largest strongest athlete in modern history. benching like 500 some thing in his 50's
Matthew Harrington I think he mentions how strong both Wilt and Andre were in his biography and says words to that affect, the photo of them both lifting him you is in the biography also.
Nick, do a story on the incredible strength of Wilt Chamberlain. Many feel he was the strongest basketball player ever and there are many stories of his amazing athletic abilities.
Some have claimed that Wilt could bench 600 lbs which I don't believe. Wilt was in love with himself (and one arrogant son of a gun) and I'm pretty sure not above exaggeration re some of his exploits.
Andre was about 7ft. tall and on these pictures with Arnold and Wilt he weighed maybe about 400lbs. What is true is that he had enormous strength, that picture where he lifted the front of a car is no fake. But that 2000lbs. weight was a "cartoonesque" gimmick from the WWF which exaggerated everything, heights and weights of wrestlers and everything to make things more of a "sensation".
U can tell Andre was Very strong naturally it easy to see. If he trained in a specific sport like powerlifting or strongman he would have gone far I'm sure!
Too bad Andre lost most of his strength later in his life. It is documented that, on the set of The Princess Bride, Andre could bearly lift Robin Wright, who was like 100lbs or so then.
darkholyPL , I don't see how that's possible because Andre was picking up Hulk Hogan in the late 80s after that movie was made and Hogan was 300 or so lbs.
Well when your body is literally killing you and you're drinking enough alcohol to kill a normal human just to be able to move without screaming in pain, its understandable
Yeah, his back was too messed up from pro wrestling and his acromegaly. In several scenes from The Princess Bride his stunt double does the work, like when the Man in Black jumps onto his back before choking him out. It's a quick shot and filmed from a distance, but viewed closely it's evident that the stunt double is much smaller than André.
If I remember correctly, former Olympic weight lifter and one of the strongest wrestlers Ken Patera, stated Andre was one of the strongest human beings that he ever met.
Very well compiled study/video but for the record Andre's height was nowhere near 7'4-7'5 ever . That was just a show business exaggeration (by Wrestlemania). He was around 7', maybe 7'1 at his peak.
i know andre was billed as 7'4" and actually 7'5" on championship wrestling from florida by late announcer gordon solie back in the late 70s... but i also heard had a back condition which made him slump thus reducing visually his height in his latter years but pictured here with wilt chamberlin who is not 7 foot 4 it does not aopear that andre was was his billed height which sometimes are exaggerated with some wrestlers.
Great video, the documentary on HBO had great interviews of Arnold talking about how Andre the Giant would lift him up on to and put him up on a ledge like a little doll! 😅💪
From the HBO documentary about Andre, Arnold claims Andre grabbed him under his arms and picked him up like he was a little kid and set him on a dresser or armoire or some other similar type of furniture. That is a pretty impressive feat of strength if he was able to pick up an approximately 230 lbs man like he was a little kid.
Nick, how could that 2000lbs weight be just kept there, I mean, how did it get in that room? From the image in the video, the room looks pretty dim lit. I call bs on that 2000lbs weight.
Wilt Chamberlain was an incredible athlete. He always downgraded his height because he didn't want his records attributed solely to his size. He was about 7'1 1/2" in his BARE FEET! Most basketball players today are measured in shoes, so you could add about 1 1/2" to his height, making him 7'3" in today's standards. I remember seeing a video of Wilt beside Shaq O'Neal when Shaq was just starting out-Wilt was easily taller than O'Neal.
An interesting video Nick. It's difficult to quantify actual comparisons between Arnold and Andre however you did a great job. There is no doubt that Andre's super natural strength was far superior to virtually anyone. Had he concentrated on power lifting I'm sure that he would have set records that would have lasted a long, long time. As a long time pro wrestling fan I watched, on black and white TV, a young Bruno Sammartino doing pushups in the center of the ring with Haystacks Calhoun, who reportedly weighed over 600 lbs.!
Hey Nick, Andre's real life height was about 7 ft, not 7'4". That was just his 'billed' height. His weight fluctuates throughout his career, between 425 and 560 lbs at his heaviest, legit
Andre never saw a day he was 7'4. At his peak height he was probably a legit seven footer or 7'1 not more then that. WWE likes to hype up the wrestlers by increasing their height and weight. When this picture was taken andre had probably lost some height. Maybe around 6'11
André the Giant could have been shorter in 1984 (when the photo was taken) than before. I think he died just some years later. Bridget Nielsen was supposed to be really tall (185 cm) but Arnold was clearly as tall as she was.
Andre the giant was not 7ft 4. Back then wrestlers heights were exaggerated for effect, still happens now. He was around 6ft 10. You can see in that pic he's shorter than Wilt Chamberlain who was 7ft 1.
Well, to be fair, in one picture they are positioned at an off angle. There's another picture that shows them more equally angled to the camera and they are much closer in height. Wilt was still a couple inches taller.
There are a bunch of photos of Andre and Wilt where Andre looks both bigger and smaller depending on the angles. The best photo I've seen is one comparing him accurately with Richard Keil (Jaws) when they walk in through the same doors for a Letterman interview. Worth googling. He's slightly taller, and Keil who 7'1 1/2 for sure. Best guess is that Andre pre back surgery was around 7'1 or 7'2. Who knows though.
Actually, at 1:40 of this video, you can see Andre standing (closer to the camera making him look taller) next to Bruno Sammartino (RIP), who was billed as 5' 10", but was only 5' 8". Andre was only around 6-foot-8 (the same height as Big Show.) My morning barefoot height is almost 6-7.75 and I drop to about 6-foot-7 during the day. Anyone that's 5' 8'" comes under my chin, almost like we see with Andre. There's plenty of photos online that prove he was only 6-8, like pics of him next to 6' 5" Chuck Wepner. There are photos of 6' 2.5" Muhammad Ali standing next to Wilt Chamberlain (7' 1"),which you can compare with photos of Ali and Andre. Andre looks way shorter. What people don't understand is that wrestling is all about fake heights and exaggerated weight. Keep in mind that even the NBA listings for height is IN SHOES where they round up. LeBron James is only 6-7.25 barefoot not 6-8. Check out the photo of him next to Big Show (when he's not wearing wrestling boots with a 2-inch heel). Or the photos of Dirk Nowitzki (6-10 barefoot, not 7-0) who towers over Big Show. Examine photos of Kevin Love (6-7.75 barefoot, 6-10 in shoes) next to 6-foot-6 barefoot Undertaker (not fake billed height of 6-10). Trust me. I know what I'm talking about. Hulk Hogan is 6-3 today because he was always around that height. Look at pictures of him next to the Big Show today, who's only 6-foot-8 barefoot. Andre was never 7-4 or 7-5, but he was 6-8 and often wore cowboy boots to look 6-11. In sneakers, I come up to 6-9. I've stood right next to wrestlers like Shawn Michaels, who's about 5' 10" barefoot, not 6' 1". That's the reality, folks. For the record, Wilt Chamberlain was a legit 7-foot-1 barefoot height.
Funny to see how Arnold is small between Andre and Wilt. Now, the 2000 lbs lift was, of course, fake. How strong Andre was ? We can't know. The guy didn't like to train, even in pro-wrestling. There are no legetimate lift by Andre. Of course he was strong when he was young, but we can't compare him with a real lifter. For Arnold, he was strong, but not super strong. Even if he did some heavy lift and some competitions, it never was his main purpose. The guy was a pure bodybuilder. The "small" Franco was stronger than him(alrigth, he was probably stronger than anyone at his best). Good vid', by the way.
idk now, I think andre was stronger. i just saw shaq get up 350 pounds on bench and then charles barkley beat him buy benching of 415. charles is like 50 and does not even work out. steven mcnair was quarterback in the nfl and never really lifted weights. he was country strong. he benched almost 400 to prove to the coach he did not need to lift weights. if andre did not bench more than arnold it was because his arms would be too long. ua-cam.com/video/ObY6xHLhqyA/v-deo.html i guess I am just bringing some people up, because shredded does not mean strong. so,me men are just genetic freaks, and I think Andre was one of them.
The original youtube, the "weight" slips on the floor like it's cardboard. Same video, he breaks a "solid metal bar" like it's chocolate. Not even *trying* to fool sane adults.
Wilt Chamberlain was 7'1" & in those pictures he towers over Andre. Which means at best Andre the Giant was 6'11" maybe 7'0". For a better size comparison, just look at the video cover for Wrestlemania 3, where Hulk Hogan and Andre were face to face with Hogan looking slightly up at him & Hulk Hogan was 6'7". He was billed as 7'4" & over 500lbs. to make him seem larger than life. When in reality he was more like 7'0" 450lbs!!
Nick Thanks for another great video! Can you please do another video detailing Andre and Ahnold's relationship? You might be able to use 'Brian's Song' for inspiration ... And more tales like the 'paying for the check' one. That was great!
I saw Arnold telling a story about How early on in their Friendship Andre had all the Money & Arnold was still broke so Andre would pick up the Tab all the time. Supes Me That's a cool story and I can well imagine Andre doing that. From what I've read of him, he was a funny gentle giant.
Supes Me Sounds unlikely because arnold was wealthy in the early 70s, he had a construction business and many investments in venice beach and stuff
Wilt Chamberlain has many who swear on his super strength, including Arnold. I'd like to see a video on him.
Just imagine how terrifying Andre would have been if he were as jacked as Arnold.
Jesse Cole
Think Broly
Well.... He is still intimidating.. Also there is nothing wrong with a little belly
real life hulk
Basically the dutch giant
Funny thing is the Big Show is that now
He's a true giant and fit asf
Could you imagine listening to Arnold and Andre talking about the good ole days? Be pretty cool if you could understand what the hell they were saying.
Nothing but sweat, weights 🏋🏽, chopper 🚁, and wine 🍷 being discussed.
Andre once pushed a car over with 4 people inside. His strength without even lifting weights was incredible, can you imagine if he was a gym rat he’d be setting world records left right & centre
That 2000 lbs was phony. You can just look at Andres face! He's fighting to hold back is laughter!
Andre was naturally incredibly strong especially in aspects where he could put his weight into it. He's known for kicking in a door that had locked and trapped one of the regular wrestlers. His lifting got worse and worse though because his back was completely ruined. Towards the end he could hardly even walk. 2,000 LBS would be 45 45# plates, somehow I doubt that weight André was lifting was anywhere near 2,000 LBS.....
Paul Hupp I do agree
Paul Hupp.....agreed. A Harley Davidson weighs like #550.... No way that weight is equivalent to over 3 Harleys.
Paul Hupp actually that's possible though unlikely
From my knowledge andre didnt even lift seriously or workout if andre worked out seriously hed be a beast. He was so huge that he didnt need to be a ripped bodybuilder.
Paul Hupp Yeah, as a general rule one should not take anything publicized by show wrestling at face value, including stats such as weight and height.
"andre was 7'5" " then shows a picture of him being shorter than 7'1" wilt chamberlain.

Andre also appears to be wearing dress shoes with thick heels while Wilt's footwear is flat
- Hugh - He lost height over the years, most notably during the 80s
- Hugh -
Arnold is more than a foot shorter than them in both those pics. If what you say is true, Arnold is the same height as Franco.
Most reliable sources I've seen have Andre at 6'10".
you are correct
Andre was already shrinking height wise by then. Andre was at his tallest in the mid 70's
Uncle Big Boobs Bear yeah he was 6"11 when he died mostly due to his condition and surgeries changing his spinal posture. I believe he was around 7"1 in his prime before he got older and his condition progressed. WWE always exaggerate heights Andre was never 7"5.

I'd like to see Andre the Giant compaired next to Robert Wadlow
It's a quick shot and filmed from a distance, but viewed closely it's evident that the stunt double is much smaller than André.
darkholyPL he had a bad back
But he was drunk off his ass the whole time.
Andre had an aura to him you can tell he would be a cool dude to hangout with.
6:41 Greatest picture ever!
We love your channel man. You're a huge inspiration to fellow UA-camrs.
@ 1:00 do you have Arnold at 6’2 ? Because I would put him @ 6’ and that’s with shoes on
Arnold looks like a little child against Andre
6:35 in the video did you see trump in the footage with andre the giant and hulk hogan..🙄 is am i right or wrong?
It was widely known that his height was significantly over billed. Apparently he wasn't much over 7'0
no the giant in his prime was around 7.3
Dude dont forget 3 inches of afro
Curtis Ray Andre was 7ft and his body mass was insane BIG
If I remember correctly, former Olympic weight lifter and one of the strongest wrestlers Ken Patera, stated Andre was one of the strongest human beings that he ever met.
Hey man, just saw your Metamucil video, should I count the calories? I have the sugar free
Very well compiled study/video but for the record Andre's height was nowhere near 7'4-7'5 ever . That was just a show business exaggeration (by Wrestlemania). He was around 7', maybe 7'1 at his peak.
The king of bodybuilders, Arnold.
i know andre was billed as 7'4" and actually 7'5" on championship wrestling from florida by late announcer gordon solie back in the late 70s... but i also heard had a back condition which made him slump thus reducing visually his height in his latter years but pictured here with wilt chamberlin who is not 7 foot 4 it does not aopear that andre was was his billed height which sometimes are exaggerated with some wrestlers.
How can Andre be 7'4"? Wilt Chamberlain was 7'1". In that photo Wilt looked taller.
Its simple, Andre was never 7'4", 7'1" was his peak👍✌
Nice overview. Thanks for sharing the priceless memories.
Do you REALLY think Andrew could partial deadlift 2000lbs?? Come on man... With a double overhand aswell.
People arguing if someone was 7 ft or 6'10, i just know that he was huge
Yeah a giant. Just look at his head alone
regarding the 2000 lb lift,Andre did not have to bend down nearly as far as Arnold did using an Olympic bar... that makes a huge difference...
1:04 people do the most to try to make it seem like andre was 7'4"
Nick, how could that 2000lbs weight be just kept there, I mean, how did it get in that room? From the image in the video, the room looks pretty dim lit.
I call bs on that 2000lbs weight.
Ishan Singh Minhas yeah, no way that was real
yea, no way that little weight was 2,000 lbs
007
Nice video once again. For me growing up, Andre will be most remembered for playing Bigfoot on the Six Million Dollar Man.
Musta been weird for Wilt and Andre to have someone they could look at eye to eye.
Andre The Giant is best known for being Andre The Giant.
Good video s enjoy watching classic bodybuilding videos
It's probably notable that that supposed 2000lbs weight was lifted in a entirely different way and form.
The Big Dipper Wilt Chamberlain was strong AF also!!! Strongest, Most Powerful, and most endurance of any basketball player in history!
It's such a shame that the very size and strength that helped him to achieve so much also contributed to his early death. RIP Andre.
His weight fluctuates throughout his career, between 425 and 560 lbs at his heaviest, legit
i hate how everyone exaggerated Andre's height. he was really about 7' 1" or 7'. about the same height as wilt chamberlain. he was just much heavier
Andre never saw a day he was 7'4. At his peak height he was probably a legit seven footer or 7'1 not more then that. WWE likes to hype up the wrestlers by increasing their height and weight.
When this picture was taken andre had probably lost some height. Maybe around 6'11
I'm not a huge bodybuilding fan, but I enjoys listening to your videos.
Imagine if Andre had become a legitimate bodybuilder and/or strongman. That would be frightening.
Is that The Rock's dad at 3:08?
Yes, Rocky Johnson.
Video on Ninja Tyler??🤔🤔
André the Giant could have been shorter in 1984 (when the photo was taken) than before. I think he died just some years later. Bridget Nielsen was supposed to be really tall (185 cm) but Arnold was clearly as tall as she was.
I saw the André HBO special last night, what an amazing man André was, great guy...awesome documentary.
Great video the documentary on Andre is also great definitely recommend watching it
Andre the giant was not 7ft 4. Back then wrestlers heights were exaggerated for effect, still happens now. He was around 6ft 10. You can see in that pic he's shorter than Wilt Chamberlain who was 7ft 1.
Keep in mind that was after all of his injuries and surgeries. Standing up straight was impossible for him
Well, to be fair, in one picture they are positioned at an off angle.
StillShiningTV André was 2,14m that‘ s what he said in a French documentary
Andre had serious knee and back complications, I can't imagine him even picking up 600 lbs without being crippled for a month
Does anyone know the name of the third guy in the first photo?
Andre drank 117 beers in one sitting and wears a size 20 shoe, Letterman TV show.
Pegleg Noid he is size 20 shoe. His shoe size was 24
seriously? 117! not bad I normally drink that per month so very impressive from the big guy
Then drank a bottle of wine with his dinner of twelve steaks, and five lobsters.
Man I fucking love this channel
Good vid', by the way.
except when he lifts 4 women, easily....most strongmen would topple and fall over...
idk now, I think andre was stronger. i just saw shaq get up 350 pounds on bench and then charles barkley beat him buy benching of 415. charles is like 50 and does not even work out. steven mcnair was quarterback in the nfl and never really lifted weights. he was country strong. he benched almost 400 to prove to the coach he did not need to lift weights. if andre did not bench more than arnold it was because his arms would be too long. ua-cam.com/video/ObY6xHLhqyA/v-deo.html i guess I am just bringing some people up, because shredded does not mean strong. so,me men are just genetic freaks, and I think Andre was one of them.
The original youtube, the "weight" slips on the floor like it's cardboard. Same video, he breaks a "solid metal bar" like it's chocolate. Not even *trying* to fool sane adults.
Andre was NOT 7'4 he was between 7' and 7'2. Every photo of him with WIlt shows Wilt his equal or TALLER.
I don’t think he was ever a 7 footer, 6’9 or 6’10
Nick
Thanks for another great video!
Can you please do another video detailing Andre and Ahnold's relationship?
You might be able to use 'Brian's Song' for inspiration ...
And more tales like the 'paying for the check' one. That was great!
Let me tell you something, Andre was freakishly strong.
Nick have you done a video on jujimufu yet?
There's a story of Andre the Giant flipping over a car with four people in it
Wait how tall is that kid on the left at 3:55 ?
