The creator of this channel is a living hero archetype.
Sacrificing his time and freedom, wrestling with his inner demons. What for?
To educate and reawaken people like us, so that we can in turn begin our own hero journeys.

Also the anti-hero here to inculcate us to ideological and emotional libertarian tendencies. Sure it reflects a lot of these thinkers' worries but he keeps doomsaying about collectivism and hardly stops to recognize its role, the role of selflessness, etc. He doesn't give time to opposing viewpoints, such as statism. Plus what about religion as deindividuation that hijacks myth?
Inb4 I'm not saying he really is an anti-hero, since I expect most people serious about these ideas can think for themselves. Maybe I'm wrong. But do notice how one can use jungian symbolism however one wants since symbols allow countless interpretations. Like others have commented, maybe the hero, maybe the magician, who the hell knows, today he might be your mother- in a sense.

in the end, humans are going to act like imperfect humans. myth or no myth, the struggle and all the good and bad will always exist in one form or another. i don't think that the lack of myths is what's wrong today. it's the lack of understanding why the human brain wants to make sense of a world / reality that is not obligated to make sense to humans.
in other words, replacing the myths with something else or going back to the myths will yield to the same results. it's the human mind that has the issues and imperfections.

‘I leave Sisyphus at the foot of the mountain. One always finds one's burden again. But Sisyphus teaches the higher fidelity that negates the gods and raises rocks. He too concludes that all is well. This universe henceforth without a master seems to him neither sterile nor futile. Each atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night-filled mountain, in itself, forms a world. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.’ - Camus

I've always known this unconsciously...that I will be responsible to write my own story. Yet for the longest time I blamed others ( absent father, naive mother) and have drifted aimlessly in life; only to start truly carrying my own cross (so to speak) in the past year or so.
It is a great burden, and frankly I find myself in fear of what's to come. It is true that it takes much courage to keep on when there is no present mythos to live by in our modern day life...yet the prospect of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, the treasure after the dragon, or reading a great fiction which enacts our all too human experience allows me hope- that I have meaning in my life, that beauty is at my reach, that everything has its worth.
Good luck and God (mythos version ;) bless

8:56 I think this is similiar to what Camus was saying. The act of accepting the crushing indifference of the universe and flourishing despite the presence of ultimate futile absurdity is another way to create a hero in oneself.

    • @PlentitudeIsland
      @PlentitudeIsland 6 років тому +2

I think the universe is more like a blank canvas. Not "indifferent" but full of possibilities and choice. Also, "the presence of ultimate futile absurdity" sounds like Nihilism with an extra helping of Nihilism. Never accept things you can change by looking at them differently. I think it was Red Fox that said " Hero's are not born - They are cornered ". Otherwise I fully agree !

I can't say it enough, thank you so much for this channel! You are doing a great job of compromising highly deep and complex ideas into relatively short videos, which deliver a great deal of their essence. For me, especially Carl Jung's and Nietzsche's work are contributing significantly to my personal development and help getting a whole different perspective on how to deal with the dynamics and personality of life. Jordan Peterson also brings together much of these contents and puts them into modern context while adhering to the original structure of their message. It is really relevant and valuable to have someone like you, who keeps these profound thoughts alive and spreads ideas in the way you do.

It's true, we live in an age when the individual has been divested of the meaning conferred by a common culture and myth, a devastating albeit liberating development. The individual now has to create his own meaning. We each need to walk alone, grappling through the darkness towards our own light.

This is why I subscribed. Because I face the same issues, we all do. But it is so difficult to find a community who even will listen to this sort of content. Or ever be interested in it, but I think that we all are intrinsically interested, just afraid. Afraid to renounce our pride, to stock up our egos.
I only see two futures, one of the mass collective ideological societies we see present today and the other of incredible individual heroes. Imagine the possibilities if you lived next door to a soon to awoken Jung, Nietzsche, Odysseus, Hercules, etc.
Anyone has the possibility to be a hero. And they are heroes, just they are too afraid to be their own world, be their own life, too afraid to let go of the collectivism that entices us to stay 'normal' and weak.

7:16 - 7:36 This is precisely why most "individuals" have more in common with pigments than mosaics. Rather than trying to define themselves with multiple traits and grab the proverbial bull by the horns single-handedly, they latch on to groups and the hoi polloi for "meaning" and a sense of belonging.
People will argue that the latter is natural and human, but that's easy to say when social conditioning and conformity are rampant, even in countries that are relatively more individualistic than others. One only needs to look at the extreme right and left for proof since the closer to the edge of the political spectrum you find yourself in, the generally more tribalistic you become.
Ralph Emerson and Henry Thoreau are spinning in their graves, and I'm saying this as a fond admirer of Transcendentalism. Swell upload as usual!

Well done ... thoughtful, wonderful inquiry .... unfolding a meaningful inner ‘myth’ ‘purpose’ ‘meaning’ wrestling with the inner dragons 🐉 ✨✨💫🙏🏼. Going beyond the external maps, concepts, myths that have become emptied out ... into the mystery of our consciousness...

you know, usually i think channels like these are shit. thankfully, despite your slight arrogance at times, youre not the school of life.
i used to struggle with depression, anxiety, and thoughts and impulses that were very (self) destructive, driven from an inner chaos. losing control over yourself is terrifying. as if smething outside you overcomes you, sheer terror makes it hard to breathe. i was unable to see a psychiatrist, so i had to overcome these demons myself. i always hated sports, but pusing myself to my utmost physical limits and beyond gave me the control and discipline i lacked to master my own demons. from self harm to self overcoming, i no longer rest in my shadow but in my sun. ive overcome the petty child, i no longer am blind to these demons within me. through work, breathing, and struggle, ive harnessed this chaos and become its master, no longer its slave. reading philosophy used to fuel my dread but now it is liberating.
    thank you.

I've done a little bit of thinking about Nihilism lately and have noticed it seems some people view it as the end of the road. Once you decide nothing matters then that's it. But unless you off yourself then and there, it isn't the end. Life goes on. Nihilism represents a fork in the road for anyone who can't find meaning outside themselves. If nothing matters, then your options are to either go on as a miserable schmuck being a drain on the lives of others with your negativity, or you can decide to then be happy for the sake of being happy.
