The Autonomic Nervous System: Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Divisions

  • We've learned quite a bit about the peripheral nervous system, which has a sensory division and a motor division. The latter is the one that tells the body what to do, and this is divided into the somatic nervous system, which involves voluntary motion, and the autonomic nervous system, which involves all the things our bodies do that we don't consciously control, like the heartbeat, and digestion. This system is divided into a sympathetic division and a parasympathetic division, so let's learn more about what these do!

I love you bro. You saved my life for orgo in undergrad, now you're saving my life in dental school. I needed someone to just organize everything like the way you did in that chart. Now it all makes sense. Thank you bro!

This video, especially with the ending review, is the best I have seen on public use. I am a therapist and believe clients can own their thinking, feeling and behavior the more they understand how their body works. Knowledge of the human nervous system is a remarkable help in this regard.

Currently in PA school and they dive right into the minutia, and I miss the big picture. Literally thank you for organizing everything this way so now I can go back to making sense of the sympathetic innervations and pathways in the thoracic cavity.

I have general anxiety disorder and this reminded me of when my therapist explained how fast is the signal transmitted and the body reacts whenever you touch something hot for example, therefore I need to very quickly apply an exercise of reverse counting whenever I get irrational thoughts.

Periphery nervous system can be grouped directly into somatic nervous system and autonomic nervous system. And there divide somatic n.s. into sensory and motor n.s. And autonomic n.s. into sympathetic and parasympathetic n.s.

After 10 years of seeking and a reolution to my AFIB, it turns out that the T4 syndrome could have been my issue all along. The problem is that I have been working against it while doing the wrong yoga and wrong workouts in the gym. Ths video here explains my symptoms and how it manages my heart and other organ functions. The T4 spine area as this video shows infulences so many organ functions. Very much apprciated.

I recently learned through a certain meditation technic that has a ancient tradition of secrecy how to tap into the autonomous part of my brain. One of the things I can do by doing that is create a energy I can physically feel moves through my body like electricity. When this energy moves through my body it gives me goosebumps and makes my hair stand up at will which according to the scientific community should be impossible ( I live in Florida btw so it's not even cold ). This energy also appears to help with pain such as the arthritis in my knees. I really want someone to study my brain or do a scan if I only knew anyone. I believe this can greatly help humanity as I believe we all have this same ability.

It’s CHI you have discovered (for yourself) and the Taoists have known about this energy for thousands of years. But, I can see how someone who has never heard of Qigong or Taoist Meditation might think they just discovered the wheel when they start to realize they can command their chi. There is an interconnectedness with chi-blood-breath, all of which have a direct/indirect effect on your nervous system.
