I just met Jordan (by sheer chance) Saturday 1-26-13 at The Buca De Bepo Italian restaurant in Anaheim, California. I saw him on a You Tube video with Meytal Cohen doing a rendition of "Moves Like Jagger". He was having dinner with friends. I took a chance and politely interrupted him to compliment him on his brilliant rendition of that song. I had no idea that he was with Dream Theater and I had no idea the amazing talent and legend that he is. I feel very honored and humbled to have met him.
The real sound of silence in the soul. A silent mountain, a silent man in the middle of nature. The echoes of existence resonating inwards, and the expression of quietness outwards to infinity. Expansion of the mind, exaltation of the soul, hammering a thousand triggers of tingling notes in astonishing fluidness until the storm ceases; blossom the peace and the joy from its own drowning, be the spirit free.
My favorite part about this song is how the melody is played in the middle of the keyboard, and most of the harmony is up high. Not to mention the fast runs all the way up the keyboard, and the sixteenth note quad-octaves near the end. He really is a musician's musician.
The entire piece is absolutely amazing but my god the chords from 5:38-end are mind boggling. It almost made me cry. truly amazing. Ruddess does it again.
At around 4:28 it's insane how this piece gets. It's like he is at the top of his ability as a musician and just playing as if there were no tomorrow. Like there's a sense of desperation to express himself as the end of life draws closer.
Thanks to many musicians that play notes written by other you can listen Bach, Beethoven, Satie, Mozart, Brahms... a lot of composers, thanks to them that music is still alive.
I dont know THIS man. But shure he has talent! I think WITH some years lesson and serious doing his things at home...there might be a future in a band for partys like weddings. 😃😁😝 There is a option for a party in my garden🥳
"Who cares who's better", Marie I agree with you. My comments were simply directed to 22prosinger who said that JR was the greatest keyboardist of all time. He is not. But he is damn good!!!
It is a note that does not belong to the scale but has an uncommon harmony with the rest of the notes, listen to it a couple of times and youll find out the note is actually no as off as you think
That two part melody thing @ 4:58 still impresses the shit out of me. I always have to go back to listen to both hands individually to appreciate it thoroughly.
It's sort of his style for solo performances. And if you lean back and stop listening carefully for things you don't like, you might actually find every note he plays beautiful.
He is clean, articulate, fast, and plays with even time. I happened upon him when someone I know said he was voted "the best keyboard player of all time". However, I searched UA-cam and haven't found anything with him really improvising or playing anything but scripted out music. Does he improvise at all? Isn't improvisation one of the most important things any musician can do, especially "the greatest of all time"? Also, does he know how to play with more complex voicings, progressions while on the fly, jazz, etc.? He sounds like many classical players I know who have great physical technique, but can only play what is written. To be called the greatest you should be more than a great technician or programmed player. Pre-written music is great, but when I attend a live performance I also want to experience improvised playing. It shows on the spot creativity, allows me to hear what the artist has going on in his/her head. Watching someone perform written out pieces all of the time is like putting on prerecorded music except you get to witness someone actually playing it. It makes the musician more of a machine, a sequenced human puppet. That's great if you want to hear a certain musical piece, but it's like hearing the same speech all of the time. Think about this. How would you like to have a conversation with a group of people, but some of them can only converse using the same sentences they've always used, never ever being able to utter a new sentence, phrase, or contribute an idea verbally? That would not be much of a conversation. An "all time greatest keyboard player" should also be able to not only improvise well, but be able to do it while playing more harmonically complex music than what I've heard on any of these videos. Again, I know virtually nothing about this person, but when you are labeled "the best keyboard player ever" shouldn't you be a complete musician? I checked his Dream Theater band mate, guitarist John Petrucci (another gifted technical player) on UA-cam as well. I saw video of him trying to improvise during a performance of a simple blues progression with other noted musicians during a concert. It was a painful experience as he obviously was struggling to improvise. Keep in mind Petrucci is as gifted as any other guitar technician out there, but he could barely squeeze out anything when it was his turn to play. That was a said sight, especially after watching a few of his instructional videos and seeing he was a very nice guy. Please post any links of Jordan Rudess playing improvised material if anyone can find any. I do like his written material and enjoy his playing (and his obvious sense of humor). I would love to hear what he has to say on his keys while improvising.
Who cares who's better or not? Jordan just fucking rules. He's not only a very talented pianist, but a really good improvisor and composer in his style. Classical piano players often spend they're careers only playing notes written by others.
That's what I want to be when I grow up.
A pianist? No. I wan't to be the guy that picks up the books Rudess throws.
LOL ! Good one. ;-)
Hilarious LOL

profundo conhecimento, talento, 12 teclas na mente, mãos independentes e inteligência dá nisso aí.... Monstro!

Most awesome human with "Jordan" in his name. Yeah, you know who else that includes.
Una verdadera "fría máquina de hacer música". Extraordinaria habilidad, a la que le falta el más importante de todos los ingredientes: corazón.
Thanks for reuploading this ;)
That was magnificent!

Congratulations!!!!!! Do you have more videos from this show?
Bello tema. Con luces de Somewhere in time de Paganini.
@nickman287 No... I think he's improvising this ! I read that somewhere if I remember...
It's sort of his style for solo performances. And if you lean back and stop listening carefully for things you don't like, you might actually find every note he plays beautiful.
UN ARTISTA EXTRAORDINARIO
Inspiration! **

Jordan rudess is GOD !
Existe alguna grabación de estudio de este tema?
he always does that

mrronniepassion He often streams on Facebook, mostly improvisation
Persona terrestre no identificada. De qué planeta será? Genio

BUENISIMO¡¡¡¡
Deep and intimate
Yes, you can. He does that a lot when playing / improvising.
Is it only me, or can you hear him hum?
Yup, he does that, you can hear it on some gear presentations
A lot of the greats , if not all do it , Oscar , Keith Jarrett , Hiromi , for some reason this is a common trait . Great topic for neuroscience .
I assume this comes from a live DVD...does anyone know where I can get a copy of it online...cannot find it anywhere!
That note was very important for the emotional direction of the song.
