- About Dr. Mary Claire Haver and The Galveston Diet -
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a passionate women’s health advocate who believes women in midlife deserve to live their best life. She cuts through fat-shaming and fads, so women are empowered with the science behind anti-inflammation nutrition.
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board-Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.
As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.
The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in food's power to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition. - Наука та технологія
“My job as a physician is to alleviate suffering.” THANK YOU!!! So many Drs seem to not have this understanding.
Brilliant video thanks.
In fact, majority if the doctors I've met, really just want us to suffer. The mental issues I went through after having to fight to get diagnosed for pcos, adhd and bpd is crazy and to add the rejection from someone who is supposed to help, only caused my bpd to spiral and I was constantly waking up with full blown panic attacks and then crying myself to sleep because evert single morningg for weeks I was waking up at 6am for no reason. The anxiety that my doctor caused elevated the symptoms of Mt bpd and I almost killed myself as I didn't see that I would ever get help. I got diagnosed by telling a nurse that this is my last attempt, and if I don't get help, I will either end up hurting myself physically or my loved ones emotionally. She asked what I meant, I said "I'm already causing issues in my relationship because I can't control my emotions. I'm going to lose everyone I love because the people who are supposed to help, won't." I was sent to the psychiatrist immediastly, diagnosed with bpd on the spot and sent home with a questionnaire where a week later I was diagnosed adhd. When I asked my family doctor prior, he didn't recommend me to a psychiatrist, he sent me to a website, which is trudged to navigate as I'm fucking adhd. Not to mention, several years prior, it took 3 appointment and a threat of reporting our family doctor as he refused to recommend me to a gyno after I explained the symptoms and why I thought I have pcos. Thanks to my aunts (lost her uterus to endometriosis, meaning it's in my bloodline to have these issues) threats, he sent me to a gyno, who didn't like the idea of doing surgery and recommended me to a doctor who would be more open to it. I had surgery and then had no period issues for 4 years. Ended up in the er a few years later because I could barely work from the pain. I was there for 12 hours to be told I have cysts again and nothing else is wrong. Then told to consult my family dr, who at this point 1, I didn't trust to do his job and 2, retired without telling us prior. I dont have a family doctor now, and it's nearly impossible to find one in my area. So I just have to go through labour pains for a week once a month. Down to the numbness, the striking pains in the back and thighs, and the need to push. I have an iud and I genuinly fear that it's relocated in my body simply because of the kinds of pain I have. I have yet to expirience being in more pain than I am every month
Doctors are supposed to cure. Not alleviate suffering. But y'know, medications make money, so they focus on the symptoms instead of the actual systemic issues in the body.
@Alixir1228, when the problem can't be cured, like with menopause, the focus becomes to make the process as painless as possible.

You’ll feel like a new person. I’ve had lots of friends do it and it’s been a radical and positive change. Also start weight lifting and eating a high protein diet. Good luck!
I started HRT yesterday and have 60% less hot flashes today. Can´t believe it. It´s a life saver.
Any updates, how are you ? Did you start hrt.
Good for you!! Was just taken off after 7 years
My dr prescribed HRT for me. I’m losing my mind. I cannot remember anything. I will be speaking and just stop and look at someone and basically reboot myself. The flushing. Not sleeping ever. Joint pAin. This is hell. But I’m also scared to take it. Ugh.
Childbirth is also a natural process, but it used to be the leading cause of death in women in the childbearing years.
Exactly!
@@maryclairehavermd8473 So does HRT.
Yes, great comparison! So true!!
@73cidalia this is a perfect comparison! So many women and babies died before lifesaving interventions like cesarean sections. Childbirth is also painful, and no one would dare suggest pulling pain control from laboring women. Yet people like the individual that the provider is addressing on the video seem to think it is reasonable to allow menopausal women to suffer.
Yup
& How many animals on the planet just die after breeding! 🤷

So it's nuts for humans to try to slow that death down when it comes to the reproductive system 🤷 but not when it comes to the vascular system or brain, or skeletal system etc 🙄😮💨
My 93 year old friend is still active, mentally sharp and healthy and runs her own foundation. Her deceased husband was the head of OB/GYN at a prestigious local hospital. He told her to go on HRT and “stay on your hormones the rest of your life.” She credits hormones and eating “light” for her amazing vitality.
My OBGYN wife is on HRT and it was so easy to talk to him about it because he understood right away. I am so happy that I found him because I had just moved into a new state. I am planning to move after 10 years and I am dreading trying to find another OBGYN.

Yes, when I went through menopause, I was profusely sweating day and night. My quality of life was horrible. I had to search for a gynecologist who would agree to put me on a very low-dose HRT. 6 months later, during my annual mammogram, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was 90% hormonal. The oncologist, who I really didn’t care for, felt the HRT caused my breast cancer. My breast surgeon, who was chief of the Breast Cancer Center, felt that the cancer was there prior to me starting HRT. She felt the HRT caused it to grow faster and therefore it was detected on the mammogram. I agree with her. Fortunately, it was small and found early. I am 11 years post breast cancer, yay!
Are you back on the HRT? I've had bc and it's denied to me now.
Yeah, maybe hrt caused it to grow but the same happens with "natural" hormones. I have a benign tumor in my liver which happens to women because of our hormones. So great argument on that doctor's side.
Some Cancers are caused by too much Estrogen very important to get a second or third opinion and not from a Doctor in the same office as the first opinion...
I know someone who was just diagnosed with breast cancer after not even 6 months on HRT. Her doctor believes the same. No direct family history of cancer. She is facing a double mastectomy in a few weeks.
I needed to hear this. Thank you.
Thank God for women like this who speak up for other women especially in the medical field as it’s common knowledge that the medical profession / pharmaceutical industry priorities their studies on the male species.
I am seeing my gyno in a couple of weeks to get on HRT. The insomnia is no joke and I can't take it anymore.
I am sorry to hear this, but glad you are taking control! Thanks for watching and good luck on your journey!
How did you get on?xx
TMI
Just had to start estrace topical medication my gyn said it will help plump things up down there so I won’t pee every cough or sneeze
Make sure to get a high enough dose. Most doctors start you on a very low dose. The best dose fot me is 1.5mh of estridiol patch. Most doctors will keep women 1/3 this dose! Optimal is at least 1mg patch! This is the minimum dose to protect bones and brain.
Omg same. Im sick of the insomnia 😢
I've had the worst menopause of everyone I've talked to about it,. I hate that I can't enjoy my life. I just got on hrt 2 days ago and I pray that it helps me.
2 weeks in-. I've been really sleepy and have had pms and cramps. It's this normal?
@thecharmxperiment4828 Estrogen can take months to have affects sometimes but talk to your doctor ofc

@@thecharmxperiment4828two weeks really won’t do anything, hormones take a long time to take affect, I’m talking, like, 3-6 months. It takes time for your body to figure everything out and actually balance itself. My horrible hot flashes were gone or way better in about 4-5 days after I started oral HRT
“My job as a physician, is to alleviate suffering”, madam you have a new subscriber here because of that powerful statement ❤❤❤❤
I started hrt 3 weeks ago and honestly I can say it HAS changed my life. Before starting hrt, I had almost 10 years of little to no sleep, hot flashes multiple times a day, urinary incontinence so I couldn't travel anywhere and hated going too far away from home just in case. The mood swings were horrendous and my poor kids suffered terribly as a result. The brain fog - oh god the brain fog. Awful. My bones have gotten so weak. I lost about 80% of my hair to the extent that my scalp was clearly visible. Blood pressure up. Cholesterol levels high despite the fact that I ate good food and ate very little. Since starting hrt 3 weeks ago I'm sleeping like a baby, mood swings gone, no incidents of urinary incontinence, brain fog lifting, blood pressure close to normal. And that's only in 3 weeks.
Same. OMG everything that was managed and going fine totally erroded to disaster. all the health things.
That is wonderful! I suffer from everything you mentioned. Not so much the mood swings but I also live alone & don’t talk to anyone much…so who knows how THAT would be, otherwise!
I think it’s time to try HRT…it might be the thing I’ve been missing for so so many yrs! The ONIY thing my OB started me on after my hysterectomy & oophorectomy, was Estrogen…& only after I mentioned my extreme & frequent hot flashes!
& yep! HE was an older gentlemen. He should’ve tested my hormone levels prior to surgery, so he’d have an idea of what needed to be prescribed so I didn’t go through immediate menopause (total misery!). Bc he ONIY put me on estrogen, my hot flashes seemed to increase both severity & frequency! Looking back it seems ridiculous that I suffered so log.
Wow. Glad to hear you're getting relief
This is me. I can’t tell you how angry I am that no one ever even mentioned to me that all of the crap I’ve been through might not have been as bad if I’d had balanced hormones. I had a hysterectomy three weeks ago and was expecting to feel absolutely horrible and I feel like I did 20 years ago prior to the medical perimenopause I entered at 35. I feel so good comparatively. It’s insane.
@@ipacarrollread wait …your OB performed a hysterectomy for what reason??
I went into menopause (technically premature ovarian failure) at 30. Without HRT, my life would be awful. Estrogen will keep me from breaking bones and suffering years earlier than being "elderly". Testosterone keeps me from crying 24/7, keeps me active, and keeps my libido in normal range (meaning a healthier marriage!). Progesterone keeps me from getting ovarian cancer, although I could do without the hyper realistic dreams it gives me. I feel like a normal person again on HRT. if I couldn't feel like myself, I'd be spitting fire and making everyone around me uncomfortable too. ALSO, HRT hormones are often bio identical, so they are NATURAL too!
Exactly, it’s perfectly natural, it’s literally just replacing what you body already had, why in the world would anyone want to suffer needlessly!? 😂

I recently stopped HRT for 3 months and it was the biggest mistake ever. I’m getting right back on this week! I don’t know what possessed me to stop, saving a couple hundred bucks? I don’t know, but I do know that I felt soooo much better and had more energy, slept soundly, no brain fog, skin looked beautiful, hair too. I now plan to stay on for the rest of my living days.
I did the same thing and now that I’m back on it I feel alive again.
I tried an experiment after going straight from BCP to HRT. I stopped cold turkey. The effect was immediate. My nethers turned into the Sahara, I couldn’t stop crying, and I almost had a car wreck due to brain fog. Never again! They will pry my estradiol from my cold dead hand.
what kind were you on? I would really like to know? My doctor put me on vaginal insertion estradiol and I really didn’t like it. I’m 67 and two doctors so far have refused to put me on a patch but I feel like that would be a much better optionand I’m curious what you were on
I’m on 200 progesterone and .375 estrogen patch. It was like I was the walking dead for 10 years. I just got my life back!
I’ve been on estradiol for 30ish years, and my dr recently took me off of it. I want it back! There are new studies showing it isn’t as much a threat to our health as previously thought. Good luck on getting back on it. Wish me the same! I’m seeing him Tuesday.
I’ve been on HRT for 40 years now. It has saved my quality of life. When I was 24 I had a complete hysterectomy due to PID, and Endometriosis that was so pervasive it had reached my lungs. Thank you for being part of this dialogue.
Dr Haver, I ask my 84 year old gyn who ran a Women’s Menopause Clinic in my hometown what women did years ago when they had these symptoms and no relief from them. Without batting an eye he said, “mental institutions”. I believe him.
It has been life changing for me going through menopause at 40 years old. I felt like I was going nuts. So glad I have the option.
Me too 😭. I’m startling hrt next week
AMEN Dr. Marie!!! I have a PCP who attempted to convince me that I was sabotaging myself for being on HRT. I told her I have completed independent research and for me there is not a choice. W.H.O scared women years ago only to recant the statement while countless women suffered and are still suffering. I have friends my age or younger that will not go on HRT because of what they were taught from physicians and female counterparts and family years ago. 😢
Yes, I was one of those scared women now I’m taking HRT it’s day 2 🤞
@freedom915 How's it going??
Do you happen to have a collection of links to supportive research? My OBGYN took me off Estradiol and I’m meeting with him on Tuesday, hoping to convince him to let me back on it.
Good for them, exogenous hormones are never necessary for menopausal symptoms. And this doctor literally believes women only lived long enough to even have menopause for 100 years, lolol. Think about how absurd that is. A 5 second Google search will show you that women have lived long enough to reach menopause since the 1600s, and some as far back as the 1400s. This woman also campaigned against HRT until her own menopause hit and as she's a doctor and has no idea how to treat anything wihtout drugs, now she has changed tack. She is full of it, lazy and clearly intensely ignorant. Women have dealt with menopause for centuries, not just since 1924.
@@odessiawooden1005 not the OP, but I've started HRT after going on injections that shut down reproductive systems (bleeding, pms, pain, the whole nine yards). Took a couple fo years, but I'm finally on the right dose of body identical progesterone and oestrogen, and feel wonderful on it. Took us a couple of years as I was bleeding heavily even on the injection and it was hrt level related.
"we didn't live long enough to go through menopause" oh honey, no. that's not how average life expectancies work.
Exactly. And I found that statement particularly disappointing, because it negates the important social roles of older women throughout history. There are even theories that women evolved to go through menopause because the survival of human communities relied on the skills and leadership of older, non-childbearing women.
This comment right here.
Yup! Plenty of humans lived long enough. Until recently no one cared enough about women’s health to study it.

I’m a pharmacist. I had a patient a few weeks ago who started a vaginal estrogen cream. She said it was a miracle and life changing for her. She said it made her feel like a woman again. She was smiling ear to ear. She was sooo happy
Thank you for the information, I have lupus and was worried it would make it worse but HRT has made a big difference in how I feel. I felt like I was dying no joke! Didn't help me with binge eating
I went on HRT...and YES, it has changed and SAVED my life. No joke.
Oh Lord, don’t listen to internet doctors. A French physician coined the term “menopause” two hundred and three years ago. Although life expectancies have changed over the years, the averages were artificially skewed down for centuries because of higher rates of infant mortality, not because there were no women reaching an age old enough to experience menopause. For hundreds of years, women who survived to age 30 were likewise expected to make it to 70. Aristotle wrote about menopause and he died in 322 B.C.
This! If a woman survived her childbearing years, and a man survived his working/war years, their lifespans were nearly as old as ours. A lot of people died young due to malnutrition, injuries, childhood diseases, childbirth, or violence.
Now, I’m not against HRT. I don’t know enough about it, but the initial statement is inaccurate. Also, just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s the best for a person, just the evolutionary path that resulted in the most surviving offspring. There’s no medical reason for women to have periods, but it must have worked for our ancestors who had to pop out kids to replace all the dead ones. Menopause must have been beneficial, somehow, maybe by allowing an older mother to finish raising her existing young without dying of pregnancy related health issues.
Thank you! That statement makes me concerned about having ordered her book. I was like: What? My great-grandparents certainly got oder than 35 (which according to her is when first symptoms can start) or late 40s (common on-set).
@@OceanWalk7 well, maybe I was a little harsh. Maybe she’s terrible at understanding actuarial science but fantastic at understanding medical science!

@helenalovelock1030 I'm going through menopause now. Pain in all joints, fingers, plantars fasciitis etc. Stiffness everywhere.. Weight gain, waking up nightly, multiple times. My primary doc wants to send me to a neurologist. It stinks. Update 6/19, I've been on HRT Since the first post and I do feel a little better, less bloated, sleeping better, zero hot flashes, feel healthier over all. Still have joint pains but finger & shoulder pain moved to both hips, but I've been stretching and working out a lot more which helps. I like the hrt.
Totally agree. I am currently going through menopause because I had a total hysterectomy due to cancer. I've tried every other option but none worked. It's horrible!!!. HRTs have given me the opportunity to live and not just exist with menopause.
I was denied it for several years. Horrifying! When I finally got HRT, it changed my life.
People who are scared of hormones (like all of them, not just having an imbalance or other issue with them) need to learn about how hormones work and how important they are to your body. HRT gives you the hormones your body stopped making, not some alien hormones your body doesn't know what to do with. Hormones are not poison, them are incredibly important to controlling bodily processes.
Women HAVE lived past menopause for eons-you see photos of old women from the 1800's. My mom had photos of SUPER old Native American women. Menopause begins in the 40's and up. We lived into our 40's 400 years ago! I'm fine after 14 months no period. No symptoms.
You are one of the lucky 20% of women whose periods just stop. Just be sure to keep an eye on your blood pressure and anything heart related because heart disease accelerates after we lose our hormones. Also keep an eye on your bones. Women are more prone to osteoporosis after they are in post menopause.
Most of those women would have died not long after becoming menopausal & if they did continue to live long enough after, they’re quality of life was poor. Just like now, because of modernity women live longer, but the number of menopause related diseases hugely increase & quality of life can still be very poor. Declining cognition, osteoporosis & heart disease. Who’ve literally only been in menopause for 14 months, you don’t really have a place to talk, and diminish what other women go through. Also, the lack of symptoms doesn’t mean anything. You don’t have to have the typical symptoms of menopause to still be loosing bone density, heart health & brain health. Go look up the statistics on women who don’t take HRT. It’s not good. Dementia, heart disease and osteoporosis are terrible conditions and kill most women.
Awesome! Menopause was ruining my life, even while eating well & exercising. We all have different experiences.
@melaniewilliams1351 all true and these problems can be minimised with education and a proper diet. So many women are fuelling themselves with caffeine, alcohol and poor food choices and expect HRT to solve their problems for them. Utterly ridiculous.
@@iot577again, this isn’t related to diet, this is a hormone deficiency. Estrogen & progesterone are hormones. Insulin & thyroxine are also hormones. When someone cannot produce enough insulin (diabetes) or thyroxine (hypothyroidism) we give them replacement hormone therapy. The same needs to be given to menopausal women.
I agree and you’re super supportive but last 100 years statement is absurd. Women have been able to live that long since prehistory. There was a period when it went down again though, until roughly when you mention.
Ya, people seem to think that prehistoric anatomically modern humans died in their 30s… no that was relatively rare (granted compared to today’s world it would be much more common). Most died either very young (like under the age of seven or eight) or they died when they were older. Like if the average life expectancy is 30-40 and half of humans died in infancy/early childhood that means that the humans that made it past early childhood must’ve lived to 60s & 70s to get that average. It’s one that really bothers me lol. So prehistoric women absolutely did go through menopause. Humans actually took a hit to their lifespan when switching to agriculture until relatively recently.
Yes, women have always gone through menopause and, I assume, suffered the symptoms. It's just that evolutionarily the benefits outweighed the costs. Before contraceptives the alternative to menopause would have been to continue having babies until you died. It was better to switch focus to the children and grandchildren they already had than to make soon orphan children.
But, women today should not have to suffer just because they have suffered historically
I can't believe she claimed that. She's a doctor and actually believes that?
Some women lived a long life. The majority did not.
@Succer imagine a world where you have no birth control, aside from abstinence. You only have to look at radical religious groups to see what multiple pregnancies will do to a woman's vitality, and that is without accounting the risks of birthing or the damage pregnancy does to 13 year old child brides. Women rarely lived to be old, and were old at a much earlier age than we can imagine.
Love this “let’s support each other and don’t use our biases and experiences to harm other people” now that’s a profound statement!

Bones stopped cracking and popping

@@freedom915yeah, there are lots of scares about it, the important hung to know is that not everyone is a viable candidate for HRT if they are at risk, but it can absolutely change people’s lives
Omg Yas!!! I had a total hysterectomy due to ovarian cancer (free now!), and HTR has been a LIFE SAVER for me (and my husband).
OMG Congratulations! 👏 🎊🎉 And Happy Valentines 💝 Day!
Lmao, yeah, living with someone in estrogen deprivation isn’t any fun either 😂
I would argue that the average lifespan was much shorter just because children died so often so early, but once you got past your childhood, your life expectancy is much closer to what we deal with today.
Yep, this lady is just perpetuating a common myth.
Yesss! And many even longer. Look at the sampling of the signers of the Constitution. Most lived into their 80s... a higher percentage than what I'm seeing around me. Grandparents' generation died in their 90s in my family, but my parents' generation is dying in their 70s. Life expectancy for one of my conditions is 55. We are in a decline, when you count everyone who makes it into adulthood.
You are ignoring the FACT that women died in a huge numbers from having children so young (not to mention disease being a more common killer) and this is what she was referring to.
Most men certainly made it this far
@@mariahsj689 Yes, materal death was much higher but still, most women who lived past her first 5 years did see menupause. Some did die young yes but nowhere was menopause anything uncommon or anything people didn't know existed. Even if neither of your grandmas lived past that stage, you knew someone who had lived that long.
So am I supposed to genuflect before her because she's an infallible "OBGYN?" As a professional, frankly, I dont care for her attitude. How much money does she make off prescribing HRT? How much of her income is derived from that? Would that be considered a bias?
They medicalize everything, its what they do regardless of health consequences.
She's out here beating the drums for HRT yet She failed to mention considerable extra risk of clots, stroke, cardiac issues with HRT. Of course, nobody is going to stop you: just understand the risks and be prepared to fully accept them. Because it will be too late if the consequences wind up happening to you
You are such a welcome voice about this!! Hrt was life changing for me! My symptoms were relentless.
I’m so glad I found you!! I had severe endometriosis and had hysterectomy 4 years ago leaving just an ovary snd started peri menopause slowly with hot flashes last 2 years then the past 5 months ended up with every symptom on the list. All of my drs ran many tests checking fir the answers all came out great. So they blamed my fibromyalgia until I showed them a photo of my red face and chest and they said oh hot flash . My old gyno left do my first visit with the new one and she says I only give hormone for hot flashes or a cream for dryness. You just need to go through the process! I left hopeless and decided to call back and got a wonderful nurse on the phone snd she said tell me your story and after I did she said you will feel so much better on a patch and told me her story! Then she got with the drs nurse and they talked to her for me and she agreed and said don’t expect much lol
I’m on HRT and I’m 56. After bone pain, chills, lack of sleep, I had a discussion with my gynecologist, who is a man. I was surprised how knowledgeable he was about HRT and he told me to try it. He recommended that I stay on it for at least five years to help prevent osteoporosis. I am on a cholesterol drug to help with my elevated numbers. I feel better and my mood is so much better. I’ll take the risk of getting cancer, especially for better quality of life. My doctor stated the risk factors for breast cancer are not that much higher than the rates for menopausal women, in general.
It's possible that estrogen will lower your bad cholesterol...another benefit of hrt. I think mine is higher when not on hrt.
Get off the Statin…..lack of HRT is why your cholesterol was bad
She already lost me on “women didn't live long enough to experience it.” yes, they did. She doesn't understand how averages work.
yep. insane statement.
Many women didn't. Averages are swayed by the bigger portion. If i have one kid in a class with 90% but 20 with 50. My Average will still be at around 52. But alone the fact that one 90% increased my average by 2% shows you how a few women getting old increased the average age by a couple of years. If only few women experienced menopause, then them suffering from it wasn't a common problem and therefore wouldn't have been researched or detected.
@@sabinej.3410except that's not how the average life span has been cooked up - you had many dying before the age of 10, then if they survived past 10 they would live until old age. Many died during birth, but still many others made it to become "crones." Old women are a part of folk tradition in just about every culture. If most women didn't make it to old age they would not be so prominently mentioned in folk tales, literature and historical accounts. The hardest part was making it to 10, most children born didn't. In a family of 10, only 2-3 would make it to adulthood. But that's okay, because most families had 7-10 kids, and 2-3 would make it to adulthood. The original comment about this doctor being an ignorant quack still stands. The statement she made is a false statement that people who have never studied history or anthropology make based on ignorance and a misunderstanding of averages. If you stop taking into account child deaths, then life average wasn't significantly shorter than ours. If we start counting late term abortion as a child deaths, then our average life span would be even shorter than theirs.
That's exactly what I came here to say. It's just a widely perpetuated myth.
@@sabinej.3410
It’s speculated that a little over half of humans died before the age of five (and even with those most died before the age of one). If you made it past the age of ten you were more likely than not to become a senior. It’s also thought that the first childbirth was dangerous, but subsequent birthings was less dangerous (but still dangerous, one of the most dangerous things a woman, or really any mammalian female, can do is reproduce). So with that information we know that a large proportion of humans that survived to adulthood must have lived into their 70s and 80s, and likely even 90s, in order to get an average of 35-40.

HRT for me personally has been a huge blessing!. Whoever does not want or needed should leave it.
Cool. Just don't judge women who choose not to jump on the pharmaceutical bandwagon. My mom has breast cancer that was CAUSED by all the estrogen HRT she took so no thank you. I'd rather have insomnia than freaking CANCER. ❤
This is objectively not true.
@@MegaTinniActually, they can. All medicines come with risk. Have you ever read side effects on your prescription? There was no reason for your comment…it was ignorant.
Absolutely agree that it’s in all of our best interest to not judge women’s decision to not take or take the HRT route. And really sorry about what you and your mum went through ❤
I do think it’s also important to be really transparent about all the risks on both sides. For me, menopause wasn’t discomfort and insomnia - it was feeling like I was losing my mind; I went to my doctor anxious that I was going through early onset dementia.
I was confused, really scared, utterly distressed - my memory seemed to just stop working, my capacity to do my job and earn a wage was absolutely decimated. I was suicidal.
So the risk to life can occur without treatment too, sadly.
Women aren’t all made of the same genetic risk factors - we’re different and complex humans, and understanding that benefits everyone.
Wish you the best through it all!
Starting TODAY, we start to support the Women in our lives with GREAT HEALTHCARE.
HRT has saved my life (and marriage)!✊ Wish people would not just see life through one lens.
Thank you. On low dose HRT. Feeling a bit more human again.
Me too!
The classiest clapback on the internet. 🙌🏽❤️
Finally starting HRT at 60 changed my life. I had night sweats, panic attacks, insomnia, urinary frequency, vaginal atrophy so bad it hurt to sit down, heart palpitations, weight gain, all resolved. I’m sleeping like a teenager now and I feel like myself again after so many years. I’m never giving this up. Ever. Never ever.
I had some spotting for the first six months on HRT. Switched from oral progesterone to an iud. Spotting resolved. Using estrogel . My gynaecologist told me that this is the absolute safest combination for me.
Thank you for sharing! I am 57 and wondered if it might be too late for me. I have an appt next week with a NP who friends have gone to and had great success with getting prescribed HRT. I am hopeful that I will be able to sleep again and also to get rid of the hot flashes (somewhat controlled with Evening Primrose Oil). I am most concerned about heart problems & osteoporosis in future as well as years of lack of sleep!
Thank you for sharing this. I am not allowed hormones due to having a stroke at 43, but I am using the mirena iud as it’s only local. Plus I will try the estrogel when I need it. The progesterone from the iud is helping me to sleep like a teenager again. I love it!
Thank you doctor. So many women have been feared monger with so much misinformation. It’s such a disservice because there is no reason for women to suffer unnecessarily.
Perimenopause almost cost me my marriage , I didn’t know what was happening , I was turning into this evil woman always starting sh** and blaming on husband, always unhappy planning suicide . My mental state was so damaged and worst was that I didn’t know it was my hormones. Until a god blessed joint pains kicked in and starting to investigate I ended up on menopausal channels and realized I was perimenopausal . It all came together and now I am in control, I even explained my husb what was the cause of my problems. I am doing compounded hormones , still have some joint pain but mental healh is back to normal like magic 😮
It ruined all of my relationships and it almost destroyed me wouldn’t wish this on anyone it’s still a battle recently went on HRT 🤞 I come back to life.
I tried compound a few years ago it became challenging then I did nothing for years now I can’t stand it anymore the old I get the worse I feel now I’m getting sore joints I feel old recently went on a synthetic post menopausal HRT
I'm a recently turned 55 yr old health & wellness coach and market gardener. If I didn't find a doctor to prescribe HRT in January of this year, I probably would have lost my home and am now working to rebuild a relationship with my youngest son. My hormonal levels seemed to fall off a cliff, and even though I had 3 natural births and didn't have the hormonal fluctuations with any of them, I experienced all listed, and not typically listed, except for hot flashes. The depression went so low I was nearly suicidal. Diet and lifestyle changes led me to reverse both a thyroid and prediabetic condition. I'm a big believer in changing a lifestyle to address many issues, although, sometimes that's not enough. Coming across these videos conceivably saved my life. Support other women and talk about perimenopause, you never know what they may be experiencing. You just might save someone's life, relationships, livelihood, and marriage.
Thank you. What works for one does NOT mean it works for all!! Especially women.
Its almost like women are just supposed to suffer their whole lives. since I started my menses, I’ve had cramps, headaches, bloating. And now that I’m in menopause I have to deal with heat flashes, brain fog, not sleeping. So my whole life is going to be suffering in some way?!!
In my grandmother's time, there was a custom that when a girl got her first period, her mother would slap her hard across the face. When the girl would say, "Why did you do that?" the mother would say, "To get you used to the pain of being a woman."
So yeah.
The lack of sleep is the worst…which obviously leads to brain fog!
It absolutely changed my life.
I am going to 63, going through menopause close to over 25 years. HRT, I was told it is cancer causing. Thank you for your clarification. I will speak to to my obygn
The best thing I ever did was get on HRT, it has changed my life.
As someone who experience menopause twice yes I did say twice. It’s practice it’s a medical practice. They don’t know everything yet. Surgically induced at 27 due to endometriosis. The second time I don’t know how maybe I’m just special but in my 50s yes, it happened naturally again. If it weren’t for my estrogen replacement, I would be one mean puppy mad all the time. Not to mention the fact that I cannot sleep my hot flashes come through anyway, but they’re not as bad. And talk about brain fog! I understand this is not natural. But it’s what works for me. I wish everybody well out there that is going through this it’s not easy.
If u have no uterus u must take progesterone
I agree with you whole heartedly Doctor. We do live longer than ever before, the average life expectancy in my country is 82.6 years. So if research is showing that our bodies stop producing much needed hormones for biological and cognitive functioning between 30-40 years before the average age of death, and we need to replenish depleting reserves of vitamins and minerals for the same functions as well as look after our life style, wouldn’t we want to take those preventative measures so that we can have functional, productive, and healthy lives until the the time that we go through the natural process of death? I know I would, so I’ll continue taking the hormones, vits&mins, healthy food, exercise, social connection, and sleep. Beleive me the hormones help. People do your research first, be critical, and empowered to make the right choices for you 😊
Very true…..prob is👉getting estrogen from a pregnant female mare is not natural
I’ve been on HRT for 35 years and my life is worth living at 71.
You, Dear Sister, are a way shower… Your mission is real & important. God bless you and I thank you.
HRT literally saved my life!!!! My menopause is awful! If it wasn’t for my patches, I don’t know what I would’ve done. It was life changing! ❤
Our intimate life is non existent for 10+ years and she is still in perimenopause - not right and her OBGYB says "everything is normal" - supposedly one of the best, seems like a hack to ignore what is essentially tearing the heart out of our relationship Keep up your good work..
Why haven’t you switched doctors?
@@maddieb.4282 SHE won't do anything about it - SHE wants to "go through this naturally" - as if balancing existing hormones isn't natural - that's like saying I want to go through my cancer naturally. I bet it does.
I'm 53 and have a lot of aches and pain too! Omgg I never had it, I'm perimenopausal, but can't take HRT cause I smoke
I wish I could go on HRT. I've been doing the menopause dance since I was 33. (6years) Because of cancer. My cancer was hormone positive so I get to go through this all natural. I am on a hormone blocker. Any suggestions on how to manage systems? that would be great. Thanks for sharing this.

You betta preach this word.
I'm 57 yrs old. I try to go the natural route in all that I can. But I've not been able to cope with up to 2-3 hot flashes and hour at times. I already had sleep issues with back pain. Add hot flashes during the night to the mix and my quality of life is not very good. I'm waiting for my transdermal patches to arrive at my pharmacy. I can't wait to give them a try.
Update: I'm beginning wk#3 since starting my combipatch. Im noticing a substantial decrease in the number of HFs I'm having a day. Still waking up during the night. I didn't expect a miracle in that area since I've been dealing with that for 20 yrs. I still wake up feeling very warm several times. But not profusely sweating. I still use my "Cryomax" cool pack at night. I did notice less vag dryness. And unfortunately some slight spotting the last two days. I did notice a day or two of feeling some moodiness during the first wk. But I'm not noticing this the past wk. Hoping to see less HFs yet.

It’s a pretty broad statement and can go for a multitude of things. But it stands true for this as well.
I agree with everything you are saying, however, I fall in the category of women who, unfortunately, are unable to take advantage of HRT. Other than following an incredibly strict diet and setting clear boundaries with people due to certain medical issues, i don't know what else to do. I just don't have the patience...😏
PLEASE READ THIS. I was talking to my foreign born neighbor. He was mentioning how many food additives are banned in the UK / EU because they cause illness and disease. **This is because they have government paid for health care but because USA is for profit system those banned foods and substances are allowed here. We are a government sponsored commodity folks. Taxation and health care have us from life until death when your generational wealth will go to government for medicaid reimbursement and not your
** The severity consistency and amount of our illnesses are not natural but for profit.
Absolutely. The FDA food pyramid was engineered to create diabetes for a massive chronic profiteering racket with big pharmacy and healthcare.
Nailed it!
USA has the absolute worst food, but tons of it and cheaply (Canada too, although it's all crazy expensive now). And they encourage you to eat as much as possible and try to run it off in a gym (which you also have to pay for). Whereas my European friends eat very small portions and just walk everywhere and are fit and healthy. The vegetables, the bread all taste better in France. I always feel like such a cow over there, they're all so skinny and chic!
I've mostly started shopping the perimeter of our local supermarket and i've cut back on processed food ninety percent. Really? It aint like our great-grandparents, did.Is probably key.
I still like chocolate but i'm starting to ditch the american chocolate and try to go for the higher grade stuff with less ingredients. All those additives in food just cause it intestinal distress
Yep. And we need to end it
I have been suffering for 10 years, went to see 10 different Drs who all said I was too young, that it wasn't early menopause... My cycle ended 3 years ago so I am not listening to them anymore and going to start hrt w/DhEA next week.
PREEAAACCCHHHH! TY for pointing out what most do not realize! Anyone can look up average life by year! We're living longer. HRT does NOT just address sleep ans mood!!!! You're the best Doc!❤
Average life expectancy is misleading when looking back much further than the Industrial Revolution. Life expectancy was so low in prehistory not because we died in our 30s or 40s, but because we died at age 0-5 and 60s-70s. Prehistoric women absolutely did go through menopause (as an illustration our closest living relative, chimps, go through menopause much later than we do relatively and we have seen evidence of them going through menopause in the wild, albeit it’s uncommon. Chimps spend 10-20% of their lifespan in menopause whereas humans spend almost half).
Now does that mean women shouldn’t be given hrt for menopause? No, if we can improve quality of life doing so I don’t see any reason not too, but the specific logic that prehistoric humans didn’t experience menopause isn’t valid.
@gamingwhilebroken2355 Thank you for your comment/input. Clearly- we both agree women are living longer and deserve to have strong bones/ ligament/ tendons, a balanced pH of vaginal tissue, strong heart, restful sleep, less anxiety, etc (all attributed to HRT)! Any human that is AFAB deserves to choose a more comfortable life that HRT can provide without a Doctor gatekeeping the opportunity for us to do so. ❤️

That's actually not true. The average life expectancy was lower because of child mortality and mortality with child birth, but once past those "challenges" people could easily become 60 or even 80 or older even back in prehistoric times. This is such a misconception.

It is absolutely not true that it has only been in the last hundred years that women have been experiencing menopause. Women have been experiencing menopause since very early on in our evolution and its actually a big source of scholarly debate as to why. The best explanation so far is called the "grandmother hypothesis." I think you're probably assuming menopause is a recent phenomenon because of mortality rates? But that's incorrect. Once women reached adulthood, they were statistically likely to reach an age during which they'd experience menopause even factoring in complications in childbirth. Menopause is a big part of our evolution as a species.
THIS is the reason I’m so glad we have social media. We can raise awareness to things we need to pay attention❤
It's really up to each woman to decide whether the risk, whether it be cancer or stroke.Whether it's worth it for my mom.I guess it was.She lived to be eighty four but I remember her going through menopause and it's like her personality changed. It probably wasn't until she went on hormones that she was able to enjoy life and she started dating again after separating from my dad.
I really wish I could have done the HRT but couldn’t because of the risk of breast cancer. Both my mother and her sister were diagnosed with it in the same year.

I struggled so hard with endometriosis, Lupus, trauma related to CSA. Daily progesterone has given me my life back. Now that I’m turning 50, my docs (all younger) want me to naturally go through menopause because “it’s natural”. They have no idea what I’ve been through, even though it’s charted and think I’m trying to “stay young”. Women are so unbelievably mistreated in healthcare, even by other women.
stay strong and on your hormones, no one would tell a dude to stop taking testosterone to go through a natural decline of it when they grow older.
nope, many older men get t-gel to get higher levels like younger men to be healthier..so you are in your damn right to take those hormones when they make your life better.
Ask your doc if they would tell men to stop taking viagra and testosterone bcs old men not getting it up as often is natural and taking meds against it is just them trying to stay young.
wonder what they say.
55, perimenopausal. Night sweats for a couple of years, insomnia, mood changes, hot flashes. So flushed from the neck up that people ask what is wrong with me. No period in 6 months. Weight gain in midsection with fat distribution to other uncommon places for me (upper arms + cellulite). I recently made an appt with my obgyn to express my concerns and ask about HRT. He said wait until the one year mark of no periods then we’ll talk. Waste of time

This is great. The only menopause treatment I advocate avoiding is premarin. The reason is it’s created using pregnant horse urine. The issue is the horses endure extreme conditions so their urine can be collected. I hope this product can be made more ethically in the future because I understand it has helped many women.
Menopause has destroyed my life.
What if I've never had hot flashes? Or low sex drive? However, I do have crazy anxiety, depression, zero motivation...used to go go go, ran circles around thr young ones at work. I have brain fog. There's so many advantages to this med and no cancer causing agents included.
