    placing the tea cup gently so that it doesn't break. with devastating power to be unlocked by practicing such gentleness. very asian material here. things that sadly most westerners like to mock.

    how do you increase speed of block or in other words, how do you increase speed of reflexes quickly and efficiently?? thx 👍

    • @robbanbobban2
      @robbanbobban2 7 років тому +10

      shubham katyal I've done Wing Chun for just a little while, buuuut...
      If you're looking for a self defence application, blocking might not be the best option. Wing Chun philosophy at least is very much offence against offence. So I'd say practice throwing a straight punch as fast as possible. Like, from absolute zero (chilling around mode) to hundred (punch landing) in a flash. The wallbag seen in this video is a great tool. Just start our slow and don't hurt yourself. :)

    • @evrettej
      @evrettej 7 років тому

      shubham katyal The idea behind blocking is similar to punching. If you practice blocking and perfecting a good guard and diverting hand movements. The idea is to practice it so many times that it becomes natural. Reflex is faster than anything else but you have to train your self to respond without thinking.

    • @R4wrn3ess
      @R4wrn3ess 7 років тому +4

      Relax, only through relaxation can your limbs move faster.
      You ever have one of those experiences where you're just relaxed and sitting and a fly just flies by the corner of your eyesight? Your peripheral version catches something moving at you at a blindingly fast speed and your entire body jumps up and you swat with your arm without even thinking and you feel like Bruce Lee for that split second. BUT when you try really hard to clap the fly you become some kind of clumsy orc? This is the difference between relaxed muscles vs tensed muscles.

    • @WhatsTheTakeaway
      @WhatsTheTakeaway 7 років тому +1

      shubham katyal You practice blocking to give you the guts to go in. The punch is the mother motion. With good footwork, just shifting your body or even moving in to deliver the punch is enough to divert your opponent.

    • @eat0dirt21
      @eat0dirt21 7 років тому +1

      improving of "reflexes" are near to impossible, what you need is the probabilities of potential moves in certain structures presented, other techniques such as gate subtraction and luk sao help a lot in the long scheme of things, in other words you need practice as well as the relaxaion in order to feel the motions that are being presented, if you are stiff you have to waste energy to relax to tonus and act to move the limb flying towards you, if you are already relaxed you can skip right to acting on the limb flying towards you, learn a lot more about the anatomy and the use of your energy to increase its efficiency i.e. speed

      That's fine, but don't just depend on chain punching because that just won't work against REAL fighters. You have to know the WHOLE SYSTEM and practice properly so you can also use all the techniques, the footwork, and the ten concepts as well.

  • @mightymeatmonsta
    @mightymeatmonsta 7 років тому +1

    First of all, Phil, your hand is NOT in the center! What is with that? When you do sil lum tao, the punch then the huen sao, your hand is suppose to be in the center. I am surprised your teacher didn't correct that! Absolutely! You are so right on that, Master! Some masters, believe it or not, do not know this! And by the way, that punch you did was a cross, which is one of the four punches in wing chun. The others are straight punch, coming from the center, the side punch, coming from the shoulder INTO the center, which is used to bypass an obstructions in the center, as well as produce more power, the cross, which you demonstrated, but can also be done shorter, with the elbow down and behind the fist, which is also vertical, and the upper cut, which also uses the elbow in theory and the centerline. This means, the body rotates to maintain CENTER. This is why there is NO HOOK in wing chun! I see this all the time, but it is incorrect. If you hook, you have to go past center to produce power. If you rotate your body to center, than you will be facing the opponent sideways and that will open you up for attack. Right. Power is generated through the lining up of the three sticks (arm, forearm and wrist, with the elbow behind them), forward momentum caused by you moving in, and a slight body rotation square. You start relaxed, and maintain relaxation until contact is made, where you tense up for a split second, which allows the energy to accumulate at the fist, then you go about two to three inches past the point of contact, where the power is transferred to the opponent. After that, you relax the fist again, bringing it back to the center, and re-squaring your body so you are again square to your opponent. What's with the music at the end?? It's almost like SOAP OPERA music! Power is the cumulation of mass of the fist, which remains constant, speed and strength. If you improve on one or both, you increase power

    It all sounds great and I respect all martialists. However the whole world changes when a street fighter steps deep at them with the intention of taking their head off.

    Kung Fu is not reality when it comes to punches because is not very strong power only I like it the speed, techinque, timing and balancing. Kungfu loser when it comes to ground to ground sickness of the chokes and locks. Boxer or MMA is very aggresive when it comes to fight so it might be very carefull.Just always to learn very speed, technique, timing, balancing and last power...Respect all elements of martial arts...May God bless all

      it's good that you're sane... The average boxing coach would kill both of them. They don't know anything about power generation.

    • @mightymeatmonsta
      @mightymeatmonsta 7 років тому +6

      No, they don't, really. Boxers need three to four feet or MORE to generate power because they use a horizontal fist, which dislocates the arm from the shoulder socket. So energy is lost down the arm. In wing chun, we use a vertical fist, which maintains the arm in the socket, allowing energy to flow freely down the arm. This is why wing chun guys can generate power within a FOOT OR LESS, and why THEY can do the one inch punch and boxers cannot.

      +mightymeatmonsta Mate I've done both wing chun and boxing. What you're saying is all wrong. First of all learn some basic Physics, do you even know what energy is? We want momentum to be transferred to the opponent because it is the Impulse that will do damage, not Energy. The difference between vertical and horizontal fist is that the triceps are naturally relaxed when extending the arm. Jack Dempsey the boxer used to throw vertical fists and it doesn't make any difference.
      One inch punch is a pushing manoeuvre. It does not hurt anyone and is completely useless in a fight. I bet you haven't had a single fight against a trained opponent, have you? Wing Chun is useless. Only some of the trapping drills are sometimes useful if used correctly.

    • @mightymeatmonsta
      @mightymeatmonsta 7 років тому +2

      Energy is the impulse that does damage. Ever hear of a laser beam? That is concentrated energy. No, that isn't it. I explained the whole thing and I'm not explaining it again. Go back and read my explanation, it will answer all your questions. No, Dempsey used a horizontal fist. The one inch punch is not a push. The only difference is the release point. If he pulled it back, then it would seriously injure his training partner because the energy is not being released inside his partner. Go back and reread my comment, it will explain everything. And try the experiment as well. It will clarify things for you.

      Ramin Tawab Energy in this case energy refers to the force generated from the body's center of gravity. When it comes to throwing wing chun punches, its not how much mass is hitting, its about how fast it hits you, ie. Kinetic Energy, as well as the impulse from the strike, ie. a quick recoil from the strike to prevent the energy from reflecting back into you. Wing Chun isn't for punching holes in people. it's more of a "fight smarter, not harder" philosophy. Punching with speed and use your body mechanics in a natural way helps make your strike more efficient.
