Personally i have nothing against oriental martial arts (i did Karate for many years and i love this culture).
The thing i hate, like most of people who do combat sports, is that these guys show these things off like super effective techniques in a real fight. They are not, and every person who had some fight experience knows that.

No, bro. Shiaolin Monks are not and never were warriors.
They are the Chinese equivalent of revival-tent faith healers combined with circus acrobats.
They are incredible athletes and perform fears of physical endurance to show everyone how "Holy" they are and draw attention to their faith.
But they don't train to fight. They do not spar against capable and aggressive opponents.
Just because you can break a board with your elbow doesn't mean that you can land that elbow on someone who is actively trying to stop you, and also trying to hurt you. Those are two completely different things.
Put one of these Monks in a kick-boxing ring, a wrestling mat, or the Octagon, and they will get eaten alive.
And they are aware of this. That is why none have ever brought their magical kung fu into a real combat sport.

They have familiar "reference points" (common scenarios in a typical fight that they practice a ton, like a straight punch to the face) that they can counter very efficiently into various kinds of "trappings" where your limps and movements are partially obstructed. This is something that's been tested over and over and, while it's a beautiful art form, it loses every single time. Are there some movements and practices that can be beneficial, sure, but on its own it's almost useless. Masters of wing Chun have been beaten by amateur mma fighters and I don't believe you've used it yourself to any real world effect. As someone that is biracial Chinese that passes for white I've noticed it's mainly white folk that create this mythos around Asian martial arts and its nonsense. It's been tested and it just doesn't work against anyone with even rudimentary skills. There's a reason street fighters dominated much of early mma, because they were actually fighters while traditional martial artists were people who memorized a fancy dance and only sparred with very strict guidelines about what was allowed.

I have respect for mma guys what they do can definitely work but wing Chun definitely works as well if applied correctly. The reason it’s not seen to apply properly is because some wing Chun people don’t train under pressure and when they fight they become scared and sloppy. I find that if I haven’t trained for a while and go under pressure the same happens, you forget all of your techniques and become instinctual. The benifet of mma is a lot of it is basic which means under pressure it is easier to remember.

Each time he had simply did a quick snap kick into their groin to take them out of the fight. He was a humble guy. He acted like he was almost afraid of other people. I noticed one thing about him. You should have seen my teacher's presentation as he was fighting blindfolded on a 2-meter-high stage or his teacher’s presentation. My teacher had a swollen face and a blue ear. He couldn't move his hand and had to stay home from work. It was a really great presentation. This is... funny I guess?

Send a link of more than 10 times it has worked. Just by the way, I practice Filipino martial arts like Kali and Silat and I have to understand that some of what they teach is more art than martial. Its not that, i mean you are not wrong, what you said is right and i know what the video is trying to potray. But right now Kung Fu has a bad rep because a lot of these "Kung Fu" masters will pick fights with MMA and muay thie fighters, but despite offering the challenging they will only fight under strict terms and rules that hinder the other fighters performance. Despite the advantage they will still lose MISERABLY and go on to complain about it and talk down to the fighter they lost against.
So even though this video is not any of that, this is what the current view people have on kung fu

    • @realist7934

@@AmbroseBoaBowie I agree with what you say but that is the Kung Fu that is portrayed on social media. Even this video does not show true essence of Kung Fu. Also remember that videos on UA-cam and certain news channels are not always the truth. Just because a video surfaces showing someone claiming to be a real monk or Kung Fu master fighting someone else does not mean they are a real Kung Fu master. Those videos are misleading. Real monks and Kung Fu masters do not complain about the loss of anything and will say and know that even a so called loss is a gain in knowledge, growth and also to be humbling. Just speaking from experience and knowledge myself. This whole MMA thing in media has gone way too far and has defaced true martial arts masters. UFC and others alike have made it into something that supposedly proves who the man is and they act very badly but true martial arts is not needing to be the bigger man and just respecting the other no matter what. That's also human nature these days as well.... Always wanting more attention. MMA community has become a bully which the last time I looked being a bully meant that you had something to prove and that in what you prove in being a bully means that you always need the attention. Kind of like being a toddler or a new born. True martial arts is something to better a person and not for money and fame.

I get what you mean and i know how it looks at first glance, but being an MMA fighter my self, watching many Joe Rogan podcasts, and talking to other MMA fighters, we all have personal beef with kung fu in person. I mean im sure quite a few people in this comment section are just jumping on the band wagon of the Kung Fu hate train, but from personal experince in diffrent situations, we have very negative first hand experiences with kung fu. A friend invited me to is Wing Chung class, they quoted movies, did No sparing, and would not shut up about theroy. Now i know, i know it was a McDojo. But i have friends who have much worse experience with these people. Even Xu Xiaudong isnt Anti Kung Fu, he is looking to expose fake martail arts.
The soule reason im here in the comment thread of youtube is not to souily rip Kung Fu a new one verbally, but hoping some one who knows nothing about martial arts can read the comments, look deeper into the arguments thst go on, and hopfully pick up a ligit martial art.

@Mark Norton Of course it'll work especially to an untrained fighter. A guy who trained for decades will have muscle and reaction memory to counter whatever an untrained guy will do.
Now, if the other guy is a trained martial artist too, it'll be then be the better guy or the one who'll get in a disabling hit first who'll win.
Most if not all martial arts is meant to be with an ungloved hand, because they use it to grapple, hold, poke, grip, etc. If you encase it with a glove, it'll probably affect their effectivity to more than half-fold. That's why kung fu practitioners in MMA matches seem awkward, they are reduced to being boxers and can't really do all the arsenal they have. Real fights with no holds bared is really what will tell who is the better fighter.

Don't waste your life as I did, they will cheat the shit out of you, most will, so-called Masters are also Chinese and not the noble angels you may be dreaming of, in Chinese there is a saying that kind of goes like this 'If you can cheat, then cheat' I travelled to China and met masters, only a few and they are great to be sure but I wasn't allowed to attack them with any force, in China there is this silly thing called face or Mianzi, they fear being humiliated so much that they avoid and anybody should avoid doing it, I love Chinese people and Chinese martial arts, lived there since 2000 and fell in love with the country but there is a LOT of cheating that goes on.
The guy in this video, his Wing Chun is useless and I say this with respect, I mean how can he think to defend against a real attack with his whatever he does, its just a demo and a 12 yr old girl could be standing in a robe and the compliant attacker attacks SLOWLY the girl show a well versed technique which looks cool but would it work at speed against an attacker that won't do as you say, that won't attack when you say, that will dodge, duck, move at HIS will not the performer, it has the potential to work and this is all you are seeing, at speed it all falls apart much like the average Wing Chun does, not all though. Not hating on anybody, just want you to see reality.

His goal is not to fight. Fighting is one of the last things you practice for. it's for mind, body, and spirit cultivation. Just because you have the power to destroy, doesn't mean you have to. That is the lowest form of martial arts; the highest form of martial arts is knowing you have the capability to destroy, but being able to control your wisdom to deflect the situation through other means. In the scenario, the battle is fought in the mind, and the real enemy is yourself. Most people will never understand this, because without a pure or empty mind, they cannot see the wisdom behind it. That's what you are seeing in the comments, the words and wisdom of a 200 year old civilization commenting on the wisdom of a 2000+ year old civilization. Without even using your fists, just your words coming out of your mouth says it all. Respect yourselves and observe from a deeper level.

In the late 1970s (I do not remember the correct year) a nonagenarian Shaolin Grand Master was invited by the state government to give a speech about Shaolin Temple with a few demonstrations at the Marina Beach, Madras which is now called Chennai in the State of Tamil Nadu in India. I was around 17 years of age. I read this news item in the next day’s morning newspaper. It reported that before starting his speech, this monk, among many other things, had torn a voluminous hard-bound bundle of a book into two halves with his bare hands effortlessly, as if tearing a loose paper, in front of the huge crowd gathered in tens of thousands to listen to his speech.
He then talked about his capture by the Japanese as POW who put him in a cage with his body drenched and dripping with the fresh blood of a bull just prepared as meal for a fully grown and fasting Lion. The lion was led into a rather huge cage and he was pitted against the hungry and angry lion. He was asked to save himself from the hungry Lion and they would let him free if he could come out of the cage alive. Soldiers surrounded the cage to witness the gory end of this monk who was in his early 20s then. They wanted to see the lion ripping his body apart and licking his blood and eating him alive. But what ensued was something even gorier which left them with a crude shock of their lives leaving the soldiers petrified with sheer astonishment. In a swift 7 strokes he had killed the Lion. He was then freed with much awe and respect.
He later said that normally he would never harm any living thing but in order to save him from death, he had to give the Lion 7 lethal blows to put to rest. He had also spoken about Bruce Lee, observing that he is mixing a lot of methods and honing his instincts and body reflexes to the maximum possible speeds too soon. He observed that this kind of honing once reflexes too fast would lead to quicker depletion of your innate potential of defense mechanism, creating an uneven balance between aggression and defense (or something like that). He said that Bruce Lee could be a speed-wonder only in his prime age but he could not sustain all the essential elements to their optimum levels as he ages.
I remember this now on 19-May-2020 at 61 years of age.

@@sergiobatista2272 true. Shaolin monks train there whole lives, a wrestler would be out in seconds if they had a real fight.

Very well done! The story reminds me of Mark Salzman's "Iron and Silk" 1990 film where an American/Canadian teaches English in China, and finds a way to learn Kung Fu from a master while doing so.

He is teaching as he demonstrates. "shauu"/"shorrh" means hand. He's telling the student where the hand goes.

The way How simple he takes them down makes me feel that the fights we see in movies can happen in real life when a shaolin kung fu monk is fighting .

Thats the problem with most people they think what they see in the movies is what fighting should look like, if they dont see the kind of moves they have seen in movies then they make comments like oh this does not work or this guy is no good lol real fighting is not the movies or sparing maches in the dojo ,its a whole other animal lol

Real fights are over pretty quickly. I’m not a practitioner of eastern martial arts, but I have a lot of experience with historical European saber fencing; Charles Roworth, John Musgrave Waite, Henry Angelo the younger etc. All of the manuals will tell you to aim for the weapon hand and wrist as a means to disarm your opponent. Disarm and then go in for a killing blow. It’s one quick pass, then somebody’s dead.
