While on break, a doctor decides to watch what's trending in entertainment. He finds an old decomposing jester being swarmed with clicks like the hottest trend since, uh... Something.
Behind the jester's throne, there is a green arrow, signifying the popularity they received from uploading their content to the internet.
Meanwhile, a cartoon tooth (Called "Teethie" in the soundtrack) seems to have suffered an injury to its leg/root. Taken to the hospital, the Teethie is visited by the doctor from earlier. What the Teethie does not know is that the doctor plans to exploit its condition for internet points.
The doctor enters the scene, acting quite literally out of frame. He bears a sort of charisma and flamboyancy that would normally be uncalled for in a professional medical environment.
The operation begins, but not before the doctor attempts to hype the Teethie up. (Presumably for a more engaging experience for the viewer.) One leg prosthetic paired with tacky and unprofessional dance editing later, and the Teethie has been repaired.
The Teethie returns to the gums, where it came from. The gums see the Teethie as an associate of the doctor who tried to become internet-famous. Not wanting to be associated with such a thing, the gums completely collapse. Leaving the Teethie and everyone else without a place to stay.
Meanwhile, the doctor rejoices. He watches as his content meets mind-blowing amounts of popularity. This is what he strived for. This is what he wanted. Or, so it seemed.
Though the arrow remained green, it became violently twisted and aggressive, nearly impaling the doctor on several occasions. Yes, he was popular now, but not for the reasons he thought he would be. People had things to say about what he had uploaded, and it did not seem to be praise. He was being attacked by the very thing he sought after.
The people around him, being related to him supposedly through work, were caught in the crossfires of controversy. The mob of viewers attacked the doctor's associates when they could not reach the doctor himself.
(What was written on the dartboard may have been blurred out, but there are a few frames where you can see the word "success". Perhaps this signifies the idea that he hit every aspect of being a jester except for being successful?)
The doctor is then stopped dead in his tracks by a chasm. Next to him, three arrows travel in three different paths. The green one, promising prosperity, leaps over the chasm and continues on its way. The red one, signifying failure, falls into the chasm. The yellow one, referring to god know what, turns around where it is met with danger.
Making up his mind, the doctor jumps. He falls into the chasm, avoiding the tidal wave of what comes with popularity. He falls into a sort of "cell-phone", where he is left with what everybody has to say about his content.
The cell-phone is covered in bacteria. Filthy and green, like the arrows that chased after him. If they couldn't get to him before, they could reach him in other ways.
On his finger was the filth. The plague, the toxicity, the things they had to say. While some of it seemed positive and desirable, what stands out is the negativity and disapproval shown by the majority.
The doctor lets these words get to him, and they fester until they spread beyond his finger. It's not long before his entire hand is overcome with this reception. He lets himself become something he's not. He moves to become a crowd pleaser, rather than be himself.
Though it may have left him in misery behind the scenes, the crowd pleasing method seems to have gotten him some sponsorships. Checks are being signed, and fancy foods are being served. A figure bearing no resemblance to the doctor prepares to eat a seemingly expensive meal. He is covered in thinning silver hair and bears gold accessories to signify wealth. Rich as he may be, this figure does not seem very happy with his life.
Next, we see a runner, possible the figure from before trying to improve his life. But all it takes is one click to send him spiraling downwards. Ironically enough, he suffers the same injury the Teethie had. Still the figure tries to push on, limping towards his goal. Sadly for him, he is stricken down by a force outside of his control.
Time passes. Nothing much changes for the former doctor. He is still imprisoned by the chains he put on himself in becoming famous.
But then, someone else sees what happened to him. Someone different, who decides to make a difference. This person goes out of their way to do something good for the former doctor, seeing how his life took control over him.
From inside his prison, the former doctor hears thumping. Curious, he peeks through a barred window.
Outside, the world is turned upside-down around him. But something is carrying him along. Something is bearing the weight of the world to help him make progress.
While internet fame may get you some good deals and maybe even riches, it turns you into something far from your true self. At the end of it all, it tears your soul apart. The collective behemoth of the internet will not be sated no matter what you do.
Moral of the story? Those internet points aren't worth it.

explain to me exactly why you think that
flash and gitz I believe it’s an interpretation of media in general. For example the doctor *when under pressure from the media* rushes an ineffective treatment that ends up making everything even worse.
There is a meaning behind it,someone else commented it here but the feelings it gives you. It made me feel helpless,as if I couldn't control anything
I think the creator touched on just about everything, in his flavor at the time. A lot of small things done on purpose. I especially liked the dentist/Dr. Celebrating his new invention to save the patients tooth and how it backfired by destroying the overall health and integrity of his mouth, followed by the backlash represented by the STONKS arrows abruptly crashing and chasing him (out of his control) much like life in general, (not just reserved for when man tries to play God). And then the infectious germs representing the information we spread via the internet, like a disease that'd end up trapping the man, which was also out of his control which is again represented by the animation of the protein delivering whatever it was delivering on a molecular level, (in my opinion, stating that the universe and everything that inhabits it is truly ruled and bound by this molecular level, at least partially). Then there's the bit with the clock clogging up the artery which I would imagine is a wink at the frailty of life and how the clocks always ticking. There's more to it that just evolves the more you try to think about it. And eventually you'll have your very own representation of it. That is the true beauty of it after all. Not to mention, pretty much every scene had a least two meanings but realistically, probably at least four. The obvious meaning, the deeper meaning, your interpretation and then the creators. What you took away from it is telling and if you didn't understand it you should consider evaluating how you pay attention.
I think there's a lot of things jammed in here that you could pull any number of representations out of. I also think it was pretty much everything the creator knew and his outlook on it at the moment. Probably both slapped together yet thought out at the same time. I've seen a lot of edgy crap and I think this is what they aspire to be. It's simple yet to the point and just abstract enough to be personal. It's one of those things I think is super cringy to point out but I mean if you didn't get it, I guess someone has to do it.

Yeah such a motivational speech
“Still lost I guess, here’s a tunnel”. I think the tunnel is just as a throw way term to all of the animators inward frustrations. By saying HERE is a tunnel, the animator is emphasising this, saying that this video itself is THE tunnel. The video represents the animators inner battle with reality. The fact that the title of the video reads illogical as a sentence but makes sense when you look for the deeper meaning represents how the video itself is something we should be reading into.
What are you talking about i parsed it perfectly fine its not like its seriously lacking in grammar its just missing a subject (or moreover leaving it ambiguous so it can be YOUR tunnel)

It's amazing that they devoted all that time to making such a beautiful video, and I love all of the little easter eggs they threw in. We need more things like this. Is a brilliant commentary on humanity's endless search for fulfillment in any way.The journey we take begins with the rotting jester; representing the empty void in the life of the protagonist that cannot be filled by anything. This is true because the final scene is actually the first, and the first the last. So we will begin with the final scene and progress to the first-
That said, the scene of exercising and dental hygiene shows the desire for unattainable physical perfection which controls the protagonist. Reaching for the cookie jar of the unattainable will leave you sprawled in a ball at the foot of the kitchen counter of depression. The protagonist faces this dilemma and is devastated- searching for meaning in anything else he stumbles toward the seemingly endless happiness money offers. He becomes fully invested in the stock markets, but the Great Depression is coming. Riding the waves of apparent success, our friend, again, finds himself in a helpless situation- stocks plummet, people around him take their lives in the sorrow for what they have lost. The protagonist almost takes his own life but is arrested(for the fraud he committed to allow him to attain his position in the New York Stock Exchange) and he is quickly thrown in jail. While there, he ages and realizes that what he attained, or attempted to attain (physical perfection, wealth) meant little to those around him, they were just bacteria and parasites. Who, metaphorically "ate his flesh" to help themselves and cared nothing for him. This realization leads him to anger, how could they treat him like this?, he wondered- his life full of nothing but hate and pain now. This was his food, his life blood. But a life filled with anger is truly no life at all, and our protagonist is awakened to the reality of this when he has a horrible accident in prison when someone from a rival gang shanks him in the right leg and he almost dies.
Now, the final section, inner awakening--
From his near death experience, the protagonist realizes that hate cannot fill his life, for life is to precious to be spent in hate. He spends the rest of his sentence in jail pondering life, existence, happiness, and meaning. The conclusion he comes up with is shocking- his life has been empty all this time- but the shocking part is, he concludes that emptiness IS the meaning of life. Not emptiness in itself, but the search for meaning IS the meaning of life- and the conclusion of what one's meaning is was the fulfillment he had been searching for for 70 years. This can be seen by the evidence of the globe prison being carried by a force that we do not understand or recognize, and its one lonely prisoner feeling unable to control his own destination. But, in reality- there are others shown in this scene, suffering the same fate as he is-
*He is not alone*
Our friend journeyed from emptiness and inner death towards the realization that we are all just passengers in a wonderful ride we never asked to be apart of, and this realization fills him with hope. Our friend and Fellow Pilgrim in this life becomes an existentialist and finds meaning on his own.
But that's stupid because existentialism is a stupid self-defeating philosophy and he will probably just become even more depressed later, but at least he is happy right now I guess? I don't even know anymore. Maybe he will become religious and have faith in God, anything could happen at this point. What is even going on? Why am I writing this? Do I, too suffer from a lack of meaning and attempt to fill the void with meaningless tirade that will get my mind of meaning for a meaningless second? And why are you reading this? Do you have the same problem? You didn't read the whole thing did you? NO? Good, probably best this way- anyway go do something meaningful.
What? Oh I don't know, read a book, invent something, become religious, become an existentialist, What do I care......
actually its obvious I do care- or I wouldn't be typing this with no intended purpose, Maybe this is my meaning......
No probably not.....
Huh....
Uh, I just woke up from a bad trip and found this written here... didn't bother to read it all the way though though and just posted it here, so yea... have fun with that I guess?
You just wrote the whole bible

You can actually feel the things happening in the video, you don’t just understand it, you’re immersed in it, you see things that are meant to be seen outside the screen. definitely an awesome and fun experience👁
Gosh, I love adult swim. I wish there could be a UA-cam channel full of just videos like this.
Fractal Seems to me like that’s potentially facetious, but check out Cool 3D World.
Adult swim is full of videos like this

This is haunting me, not because of it's animation but because the characters are used in some of my studies Modules. weirdly Ironic

Why did I watch this... I have a dentist appointment tomorrow.
How did it went?
What did your Ophthalmolodentist do?
It was only a matter of time until Adult Swim found Cool 3D World
thats not cool 3d world, not the same artists.
Nathan Drake well look who drained the imagination and fun away: he who, sees the obvious and is without humor. Good show 😘
@@traangustheopp genuinely thought it was cool 3d world at first, had to look it up.
Nathan Drake I agree. But I know the dude from cool 3D world wouldn’t sell out like this. He’s too COOL
@@traangustheopp hate to tell you but he's already made a short for adult swim

That was amazing. For a solid five minutes I sat there, mouth agape, wondering what was going on - and then I realized It doesn't matter, none of this matters.
Somewhere, an english teacher is over analyzing this.
I mean it clearly does have meaning, there's a lot of reused ideas and some sort of story.
@@sploofmcsterra4786 that's clearly the story of a man who saw the oportunity in pruduct marketing. He then experienced success before seeing everything crumble before his own eyes, and having to deal with the consequences, including being jailed for it all.
I'm an english teacher now!

I fucking love abstract surrealist art. Gave me goosebumps, honestly one of the best works of art I've ever seen.
this made me feel like living is such a needless chore
6:52 Did they just protect the identity of a cgi model?
They also did that at the beginning, with the woman exercising
Maybe the animatiors imported copyrighted property like the cgi trainers from another company?
Either that or they did it for their message

Please make this a series! I need to know if the doctor who is no longer a doctor escapes his phone prison!
I had no idea stock clip art Aesthetic was a thing and now I love it
This is the closest description of a Dream. Idk others but there are details that resemble how I see them. The text that somehow reminds you a word even though it's just blur bc unconscious is not rotted on written language yet, random scenes unrelated but with natural transitions happening just because, objects that shouldn't be there...
8:53 - "We're 'trapped' in a world that's messed up - some might say 'upside-down' - but ultimately our problems are insignificant and 'minuscule' compared to the 'greater scope of life,' and our actions are rendered 'pointless' amongst the vastness of time and existence."
Bittersweet, but I like it.
And the ending also suggests that it's kind of in our blood, so to speak, to act that way
@@winterfisher7868 YES! THANK YOU! I was wondering what the blood cells were for!
@@agustrusher You're welcome! I really like your analysis too!
Great, i got the same idea at the end of the film. But I also did not catch the blood cells.
