Back in Eldraine, I was facing non-stop food sacrifice vs my mono black agro deck and got destroyed by mayhem devil so I made a fun Dimir anti-food... I faced Teferi EVERY time for the rest of that day. I would say I still face around 75% teferi control decks whenever I used that deck. The way I see Arena as changed ever since. I think it matches you with the closest match up possible (color and rarity) as your deck so that free to play players don't face mythic.deck and quit within a week. From my experience, if you want to face Rakdos sac with a Dimir control ; put some blood crypts and a single Kroxa in your deck. Works for me.
With a deck with no rares nor mythics you'll still encounter decks full of them (24+). I've even try decks with no uncommon to see if there was a difference (the answer is none). I mostly play jank/F2P decks( or drafts but doesn't matter in that case), and I think the match up works around the colors and cards you're playing and then rarity. I dunno if they're an official state about this.
I would say this is accurate. I’ve begun to notice this as well. I have a red white knight deck I play and I would say 90% of the time I play an Ajani life gain deck when I play it
make an anti teemur. face mono red. make anti-mono red. face teferi. make anything that isnt meta, face meta. if its like dota 2 where they artificially put you against more/less skilled players so that your win ratio gets as close to 50%.
100% and it feels like it's only gotten worse. I'm having less and less fun with mtga lately. I feel like the draw engine is in on it too. Most of the time my decks best answers for any given situation is at the bottom and then I'll draw like 3 copies of a single card within lile the top 10 - 15
First of all, Great content CGB as always. However, the matchmaking issues are slowly forcing me to really dislike this game. I have played for well over a decade and I'm not new to bad running or variance, and I'll even admit I'm not a "mythic level player stuck in Diamond". However, it might not be empirical but, there are just too many times this happens for it not to be algorithmic. I had played this new format nonstop since release, switching decks, pretty consistently getting the aggro
Remember when MegaMogwai made a deck specifically aimed against simic flash? He got frustrated for having to play against it all the time at the ladder. So he made a deck to beat it and played the deck for eight hours. Didn’t face simic flash for once. Arena is rigged.
To be fair, if an opponent manages to resolve Tef3ri it basically shuts simic flash down. You might get lucky and still win with creatures played in turn, but without any defensive spells or surprises, simic flash is basically dead in the water.

Hello, During the "woof" match I also did the sound during the second wolf. But at the end of the match the only thing that came to my mind is the already famous "the shuffler is fine".
arena definitely does *something* to your match-ups. idk what or how, but it is not completely random. I usually play control and 90% of the time get matched with other control decks or Temur Rec decks. recently I switched to a Gruul Aggro and I haven't seen a control deck in 3 days.
How would you know if something “isn’t random”? How much data have you collected to confidently make this statement? I guarantee it’s not even a hundredth of what you would need.
Well, back in THB I made a mill deck and guess what...everytime I played that deck I faced another mill deck and when I switched to other deck I never faced a mill deck. Initially, I thought it was just a coincidence, but after playing a lot of games with that deck, I realized that the MTGA was choosing my opponents based on my deck. I think this so fucking bullshit and must be gone...people should be playing against random decks and not whatever they want... That question at the end of some games ("did you have fun in the match?") is clearly a sign that they are collecting data for specific decks matchups.
Been watching every vid since last year and the mono red torbran/ mountain play was hands down my favorite moment ever! Just desserts for all the mono red hate. Orzhov mage btw.
You know that one scene in Naruto when the 5 kages face vs Madara and they successfully stop the meteor, and Madara goes all "Congratulations. Now how will you fare against the 2nd one?" That's how I felt in the last game when CGB countered the Embercleave, only for monored to reveal that they had a 2nd one in their hand.
Really nice deck, and nicely played. I have a simic flash build with Wilderness Reclamation which is basically unbeatable as long as I have a good start and draw the right cards. It has to be said, though, that simic flash really suffers from inconsistency. CGB got real lucky with draws in a lot of these games... I find that I often lose games not because I'm playing badly but because I am REALLY unlucky with card draws. I'm convinced that there is a place for a reclamation build of simic flash in the current meta, but it's hard to get that perfect balance of ramp, creatures, counter spells, and card draw.
I found that repudiate is also a lot of fun against Ugin, it's a different sort of countering which works really nice in a blue black deck, to not focus on countering spells, but just countering the effect and then killing it. As with everything: unless they have teferi.

Bold opinion: I actually like simic flash, UW control, mono red aggro, rakdos aggro. Every deck that does cool and powerful things is just really fascinating to me, as long as they aren't just decks that require zero decision making and rely 100% on perfect draw sequence.

There was a misplay at 43:58, you sholdn't have countered the ugin, the correct play would be let it resolve exile your whole board and on the end step when your opponet starts to have hope that he could actually win you play the frilled mystic and crush his soul
Interesting that in the intro and (brief) outro the deck list you show on screen doesn't have certain cards that you played in the actual games, such as Wolfhaven or Spectral Sailor. I'd be interested in what changes you made throughout the games and why, and what you pulled for the substitutions... or are you hiding back some secret sauce?

Simic Flash was my favourite Standard deck from the first time I saw it. And now Standard is finally messed up enough that I can admit it without feeling like some kind of pervert 👍

The triomes are forests in addition to swamps and islands. So they add an additional one green mana thanks to nissa.
