    The delay in the train return is normal. Train watching is like fishing, there are periods of waiting with nothing happening. Paint the hidden area walls and trackboard black.

    You are correct about Welsh towns, I lived Sth Wales 2002-2006 and Phenwryceiber on Aberdare lines fits your description as does Mountain Ash on the same line..amazing small running..

    Nice layout!
    The layout is 18" across, and that should make a 9" radius at most (slightly smaller).
    Looking forward to the progress of this!

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  6 років тому +1

      Thanks Roger. Some people tend to give radius to the centre of the track which would make it smaller like you say. The main thing is that the baseboard is only 18in across, the same as N or 009 gauge first radius.

      I had the same thought. 9” radius, like your layout, is really tight!
      I’m running On30 (O scale trains on HO track) on 9” radius. Works, but I can only use my 0-4-0 porters and such. Great video!

    Its nice to see that a large loco can go round your really tiny layout, I cant wait to see what you do with the rest of the scenery

    It's fun to go back and watch these early videos knowing how the finished product turns out. I'm getting set to try a simpler version of this layout myself.

    Thanks for this reassurance that some locos will manage tight curves. Can you identify for us the three locos which ran smoothly on the layout. Thanks again, Mike.

    Looks great, I do like the idea of no tunnel mouths simple yet clever. This has created a problem with my layout, considering stripping mine and starting again anyway welldone.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  6 років тому

      I'm still going to have two tunnel mouths but they will work better with the back scene, it also means I don't need to put ends on the backs scene just the back.

    I like it ...can’t believe you can so much on a small ....as Dave’s trains said to me you don’t need a big layout......regards Fred

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  6 років тому

      Hi Fred, I just keeping watching the trains go round and every time they do I can't believe it, as its so small! The town scene is next and that's going to make it look even bigger. The thing is it takes up les room than my N gauge layout did!

    Great work lad, I am heading to the local hardware tomorrow to start building my room within my extra large garage, then I can start my layout plan.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  6 років тому +1

      Good luck with that, we have a long term plan to build a dedicated railway room/workshop in the garden, hopefully next summer.

      I find it had sometimes to keep the ideas and motivation going, but with this layout there is some serendipity and it just seems to flow. I even picked up a low relief row of terrace houses yesterday for only £2 so it looks like this one is meant to be?!

    Are you sure you mean "radius"? That would require a 3 feet wide baseboard.

    Hello guys
    Great video, looking forward to see how it turns out.
    Has this replaced the 009 layout, just wondering?
    Olly

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  6 років тому

      Hi Olly, the 009 is on the back burner for a while, as this layout kind of achieves the same objective.

    • @heaptoncollierymodelrailwa6011
      @heaptoncollierymodelrailwa6011 6 років тому

      Ahh okay, I get you
      Will you be scratch building anything for this layout?
      Olly

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  6 років тому

      Some of the scenery and buildings, but not locos or rolling stock as that's the idea behind the concept, that you can use a big range of RTR in the same size as 009.

    • @heaptoncollierymodelrailwa6011
      @heaptoncollierymodelrailwa6011 6 років тому +1

      Ahh okay

    would this layout design work with the hornby r604 curves? as id be interested in trying this. Also could you get a low-mac around these curves? any help/advice is always appriciated and i love the videos you make, keep up the good work :)

    • @BudgetModelRailways

      You could make it with any radius track you like, it will just be bigger. I doubt low macs would go round this layout it's too small

      Not really, my older Hornby class 08 will but most won't. Perversely older Bo Bo diesels , Hornby and Lima will

    would like to know please if dcc locos that ive got sceond hand could run on analog hornby controller thanks bruce

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  6 років тому

      Hi Bruce. Sorry but we don't use DCC so not sure, I think it's possible DCC fitted locos can be, and I believe DCC ready might but you have to program them, I would check with an expert first as you don't want to fry the chip.
