Richard, this Cadillac build is your best and most comprehensive otherguys test yet. Awesome work, thanks for all the knowledge and info
Glad you liked it!
What compression? And what fuel?
Thanks
This has to be the most in-depth Cadillac power quest for sure on UA-cam and possibly ever 👍👌
Pretty sure I've watched every 472/500 video on youtube and your statement is wholly correct.
The Rockabilly Arts me too gonna build my 1970 500 block
I think you've found your niche with these "other guys " videos. Truly great content, especially for the guys who run this stuff and are tired of seeing small block chevy after small block chevy, LS after LS.. etc. Keep up the great work Richard, your viewers appreciate it. 🍻
100 percent agreed! LS and 350 Chevys make me hate gm! this old caddy big block is cool tho
Glad you like them!
Torquemonster440 , I totally agree with you comments. I’m not knocking the merits of GM’s SBC or LS engines. They both have unique qualities and potential. But with the over abundance of redundancy in regards to the endless flood of information available to illustrate the latest ways to flog the shiny new valve covers on the GM engine of choice, I would imagine that almost everyone would welcome a change of pace. It’s enough to drive a person insane. But in the name of good mental health, Dr. Holdener has achieved some amazing results with this big Cadillac power house. That’s why four out of five doctors recommend a daily dose of Holdener. It’s definitely not business as usual.
I like the LS after Ls after LS stuff - aaaaaaaand the other guys stuff too
Imagine what this beast would feel like?
H U G E torque!
Still makes over 500 ft-lbs at 2500 RPMs. That's just crazy and I want one. Lol
Me too! 😁👍🏻
caddy bb v8s are notorious torque monsters in stock form!!
It's just the thing for moving eight tons of school bus around.. it's no wonder these engines can make a DeVille so hot on the strip.
And yeah, back in the '90s when I did this conversion I was met with a lot of discouragement and negativity from Chevy-centric machine shops. I didn't want a valve sucking, crank breaking, bearing spinning big block Chevy. Back then, all the big gasser medium duty trucks were in the wrecking yard for the same thing-spun main bearings in their 427s. Meanwhile, I had a yard full of Cadillacs, so my buildable core was free :-D None of them had spun main bearings.
There was no meaningful internet back then, so I had to make all the expensive mistakes and learn the "old fashioned way" but once I got it right, it was worth it. I'm so glad channels like this exist now, so people don't have to learn the hard way like I did.
WOW! the Caddy did not disappoint with 675 F tLbs of Stump pulling torque. That set of collector extensions finally got rid of the dip in the torque curve at 3500 RPM seen on every other combination. This would have been a FUN engine to drop into my old 54 Chevy pick up. Plenty of room - even with all them spacers.
I want to see garage 54 make a 30 foot long carb spacer, and run it.
This is the information we’ve been waiting decades for. And some of us Caddy guys thought we would never find! Thank You Richard! Thank you so much!
Let's gooooo Richard... Other guys has always been more exciting then any LS flicks
Completely agree! So over that engine.
Every time i see an L/S in a 69 Gto or a 70 442....i want to Puke...Hell yeah to the Other Guys..💪👍🇺🇸
@@karlsracing8422 yes that engine is so horrible!!! ooooohhhh I cant stand them anymore!!!!
amen guys! LS has replaced the 350 and both bore me to tears
@@erandy0240 The irony of some people!!!! Wheeew I just dont know how anyone could possibly take anymore of this! WHHYYYYY!!! I would much rather pay 2 or 5 times as much to build any other engine Just so I dont have to hear the word LS again! Ohhhhhh its so horrible!!!
This is the best engine content on this platform
This progression is one of the best I've seen showing how much you get out of incremental upgrades. Helps a person decide how to get the most for their budget.
Wow, those 24 inch header extensions really took care of that torque dip @ 3500 rpm.
I really have to pay more attention to these extensions.
Ford guy here, but I am totally digging this build. Well done.
My mother had a 500 cube in an Eldorado.. never knew it was capable of this much power.. Thx for allowing us to tag along...
Very fun, Richard. Still more proof that an engine is as engine and they all work the same. Physics are physics on this planet and any engine can be a performance engine PROVIDED that you can feed that big air pump, all things being equal of course. Mo cubes, Mo air, Mo RPM's, Mo gas is MO BETTER!
The aluminum heads are a work of art! Glad you didn't run the Q jet again and make it more famous, keeps the price of them at the swap meets at $25.00 for me.
This caddy Series is awesome. Love the caddy 500 🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿
That’s crazy! Just love your “Other Guys” tests!👍
Well that does it, I'm throwing away all my BBC stuff and getting an old Cadillac engine. It has to be cheaper, at least for the basic engine. Awesome power out of an engine that everyone, except Richard, ignores. We would never have known all this goodness if it wasn't for our number 1 engine dyno guy Richard Holdener. Thanks Richard for this test and all the ones you have done. I just love watching these, I hope you don't run out of engines.
That was Awesome Richard.!!..You made Some Monster Power with that 500 Caddy...But Get some Valve spring and a Solid Roller lifter in that Sucker...id rather see 800hp NA.. than 1000 with a turbo... Id be proud to put that Caddy in any one of my street Cars...Great Job.. 👍🇺🇸
I totally agree 😁
Yes! I would love to see 800hp NA!
What's impressive about this engine is that it's making that power with the mechanical water pump still equipped. This is a very honest 770hp. The 665 foot pounds is 1.33 foot pounds per cubic inch. It doesn't get much better than that!
Richard your going to make everyone want a Cadillac motor like yours
You got a great man to assist with this build. I have enjoyed watching the Caddy pull some absolutely awesome torque and hp umbers. Thanks for sharing.
Scott H and Courtney have done all the hard work
Up next Oldsmobile 394!! The torque monster! I have a 1962 Oldsmobile starfire. Always wanted to see a 394 on the dyno!
Almost 800 hp floating the valves at 6500 rpm. Totally impressed. I’ve heard of a few guys messing with the big caddy engines but have never seen this kind of step by step power building on one. Really enjoying it. Impressed with the whole series. I hope you producing this kind of content. I’m in.
I remember when Potter was working on those boogie man heads and intake..
An amazing improvement over the factory port design, and an improvement over the bulldog heads. raising the intake runners by a mile helped so much..
I started to build a 472 10yrs ago,but never really got anywhere with it..
I didn't know cad company bought in or bought out Potters
Love the Other Guys builds, but I’m laughing at the whining about the LS info. Richard covers it all. We have a wealth of information, thanks to him, and he won’t even let us help pay for it, at least, not yet. His channel is an absolute gold mine.
Keep it coming, Richard, including the LS stuff. It’s all appreciated.
Right on! All stock engines are good-even better with boost
The Other Guys is PURE GOLD ! Thanks, Richard ! You always deliver the goods. 👌😎👍
How bout an “other guys” with a 2.3 lima turbo ford build?
Richard, you built a powerhouse there! ;) I can only wonder what grandpa's de-ville would've been like with that under the hood.
I didn't build it-just helped test the parts
The most cost effective way to run a cadillac 500. I ran a big diesel turbo on one back in the 80s.
Rich - you are taking it to a new level - many thanks
Most of the other Cad test i have seen have been less than exciting. This one was exciting and brought the kind of power out of the old Caddy that i always thought was there.... and then more !
Awesome ,Unlock The quantum Power within !!! As a side note CAD Eng, Maybe first production Mod ....Motor V- 12 They Had big plans . WORLD CLASS .!!! Make 4 Digit POWER .LETS GO ! VOTE FOR FOSSIL FUELS & AMERICAN DREAMS COME TRUE LIKE THIS CAD-ADVENTURE !!!
Amazing to see old technology make this much power. It surely shows this younger generation that old forgotten engines are power gems.
way to represent the other guys! this is the information you just dont find anywhere else except entusiast forums, for us that is partially "abandoned" by the aftermarket companies that seems to cater 90% of their cataloge to small and big block chevy. Keep up the good work!
Getting into serious hp category! Can’t wait to see the boost numbers-but guess we’ll have to... This is great stuff, Richard! Thanks to you and the ABQ guys for all this thrashing for our benefit. Don’t forget to get some sleep and stay safe out there!
Insane!! Ppl told me to junk my 472 for an LS - Thanks Robert I got some lawn boogies to do this summer👍
Damn! I love following the “other guys”!
Man your videos are getting better and better. More concise and more labeling of each mod and what’s happening. Good stuff! Now keep going!
Wow, 500 ft-lb @ 2000 RPM?!
*rear tires have left the chat*
Awesome comment!!
👍🏼👍🏼
Totally cracked me up! 😂
Awesome build! Wow... That caddy power is awesome 😯🚗💨
That's some awesome testing. Impressive to see 🐕 turn into a 🦁!
Great job, I’m glad to see you back to testing! Keep up the good work. I hope your channel takes off for you, these are the kind of real world tests people need to see what actually works and what doesnt
Phenomenal ! That's DIESEL SIZED TORQUE way down low. Something to be said about that Caddy Engine.
The caddy's breathing deep now Richard, good test.
After building three of these, I'm pretty familiar with their capabilities. Very nice to be able to watch this step by step process, though.
These latest aluminum heads are pretty good now. Redesigned in conjunction with Edelbrock I believe. They are still prohibitively expensive though. Around $4,500 per set, the last time I checked.
You are such an upbeat guy, would love to have a beer and talk LS's with you. Keep the great videos coming.
as long as my beer looks like Whiskey or a Lemon Drop (Raspebery being the manliest)
THANK YOU FOR SHARING, THAT WAS AWESOME.
The Caddy500 is my dream motor. I truly appreciate this whole series. Well documented and informative! 🙏🏼🏁
I have enjoyed bing watching the Caddy!😎🤘🏻
What an awesome episode / test. . Congratulations on results Richo to you and the team
Errrmagrd! So ready for Caddilac boost. Thanks Richard. Your other guys series is about all the junk I've driven. It's so cool to see it show cased.
So Much thanks for all you have to work To get us results , and cool videos and all the fantastic information
Something seriously sexy about that big ole Caddy engine!
This is such a fun series to watch!
It really shows how all engines are inherently the same and generally like more head flow and more cam.
Yes to the large cam with the ported stock heads! 👍🏼👍🏼
Superb!
Finally got to see what this monster would do if you revved it all the way out.
I got my butt kicked at the drag strip by an S-10 with a 500 Caddy in it.
Brock Main3, I had a mildly built 5.0 fox.
This vindicated all the discussion I had with Chevy Big block guys when I was a teenager , thx Richard 👍
Boost it 👍
Most impressive build yet!!
These engines come back apart so easily, since the RTV hasn't even cured! Great vid!
Glad to see the collector length worked!
Truly enjoy these videos thanks !
Love this motor and never even thought about them much .... now I want one ! 🏁👌
What a friggin toy shop !!♡♡♡
I love the caddy, and I don't mind the Techno music but my ADD and the off time chime aren't getting along well. 🤣🤣
Lolz
You rock brother great job you guys cant wait for for the next test
Good work Richard, love the channel and how it's grown would be awesome to see some more small block Mopar
I got a cad company 523 c.i. it outruns almost anything. The torque in the caddy 500 is unbelievable.
Thanks for something other than a ls turbo. These are the combinations worth reading and watching. Surprising power. Always wondered about the oiling situation with these engines and engine speed over the journals but I guess this is not a issue lol.
Ah yes, other guys before work. Going to be a great day!!!!!!
Sweet!!
Never too early for Holdener videos.
You are doing a outstanding job, and I agree. I would like to see the bigger cam with the cast heads. 😁
thnx-its fun stuff
you damn near have me sold on a caddy....
Richard this is David Bates from Montana I usually talk to you about 2.3 l Ford engines but today I want to suggest some boost on that Cadillac 1 single turbo or maybe two I think the viewers we would like to see this thing make serious torque add some horsepower large cubic inch displacement some boost added I believe this is what the viewers would enjoy I really enjoyed this video
I ran a turbo on the 500 already-that vid is up
We never fail to learn something new. Can't wait to see what's next in the boosted video.
Dang, that’s a bad caddy!!!! This is how testing is really done!!!! Thanks guys!!!
At least it's starting to sound like a proper V8 instead of a lawn mower! Great stuff!
Thank you Richard huge power gains. Ready to see twins, Laughing gas, 8-71, & pro charger Huffers. Although a Tunnel Ram be nice too! 👏👍
If I recall someone made adapters to fit 429-460 Ford intakes to the 472-500 Caddys. That was before manufacturers rediscovered these engines.
Richard are you crazy love.caddilac good show
Lots of love for the Cady , now you need to show the Buick the same and have a torque off!
500 wins over 455 in torque (its more displacement)
Those heads are sick!!!
And the cad guys are awesome
Although mine is bone stock 30k mile take out, the. Best thing I ever did to my old c30 was put a 500 caddy in it. Daily driven, decent mpg, and can pull a car hauler trailer all day.
The price of Caddy 500’s just went up.... again! lol
Good thing I have my 1970 500 engine
@james avery yep you have to really wanna be different amd not really care about budgets
Now if this engine was put back in that little gremlin. Wow scary down the drag strip
Awesome work
This is NUTZ! I now love 500 inch Cadillac Big Blocks!
Richard you are the coolest gearhead on you tube.
Now that's a 514! Factory Con rods are a limiting factor...
Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac
With a Diamond in the back, sunroof top
Diggin' the scene
With a gangsta lean
Gangsta whitewalls
TV antennas in the back
William DeVaughn did this in 1974, very cool song for all people, it has a message for everyone. Back when this music was at the top of the game, I miss it all today.
@mike s Remember brothers and sisters, you can STILL stand tall 😎
The minute I saw those curvy combustion chambers and that "tubular" single plane intake, I knew this was gonna be killer.
One of my favorite episodes so far Richard! Are there 800 horsepressures in there that the valve springs will uncover? I think so!
Wicked as love these series !!/
Hey Richard, it would have been great to see how much gain you would have seen if the exhaust was ran outside of the Dyno room and a fresh outside air stack leading to the carb. I ran a fresh air stack to a 2 four intake once on the Dyno and picked up 50HP! compared to the heated Dyno room air. Although it was a small Dyno room, but our exh was ran outside. Just the engine and header heat. Thanks again for your time and knowledge. Dan
Good stuff richard... doing a good job growing the channel and making good content
Much appreciated
That's big NA power in anyone's book cheers.
It's interesting seeing the reversion out the carb when the valves float.
Can’t wait to see the next round. I think the week part of this build is gunna be the oil pump.
Awesome video series!!
