Going to try this soon! Apparently those saying you talk too much already know how to make curry shrimp and shouldn't be watching this video. Words = information. Great video.
This was great. My dear Guyanese mother complemented me on this dish. She was such a great cook in her day. When we wanted curry we always asked mom for the treat. Granny was always happy to feed the family. Thanks Chris you made it possible for her "Canadian born" son in law to return the favour.
omg im 16 years old and it was my first time cooking curry shrimp and i followed u step by step until i was finished and it taste spectacular love it ....thank you for the recipe btw (Jamaican)
I just made the curry shrimp and it was the BOMB! thanks to you. Chris you are a great chef and your teaching is so easy to follow. I really appreciate the time you take to do these videos for people like me that love to eat Caribbean food. thanks Tina from Boston Ma
Oh yes my brother, this recipe is on the money. I made it for dinner and my picky husband and son loved it. Thank you so much. I will be making your recipes when I crave some Caribbean flavor.
i love this video. i'm going to make this right now and my hubby will be so glad tonight when he get's home. we love caribbean cooking... thanks for making it easier!
Very nice, thank you for your great recipes! For all the people who are so disrespectful to other peoples video's, didn't your mama's teach you, " if you don't have anything nice to say, than don't say anything!" keep all mean comment's to yourself. Keep going strong Chris, because some of us really appreciate what you do!
Merry Christmas and I hope that you have a very prosperous New Year. Thanks again for all your hard work and videos. You are surely getting me back into learning to recook my own Trini foods.
Thanks Chris. I am now getting back into cooking my Trini foods, so although I know how to cook, your videos will help me to be more confident. I will be using a lot of them.
Great instruction...before watching this video i was going to freestyle my curry shrimp. That would have been a disaster! Thanks for this. My guest now think that I'm a Caribbean chef!
for me.. the green onion is treated more like a herb. So to enhance flavours, top to add texture and brightness and a lot milder that the actual onion. As far as onions goes, there are many varieties.. but the majority can stand up well to cooking, goes sweet when cooked slowly, but can also be very pungent at the same time. did this help? Some green onions (Scallion/ spring onion) may also have a hint of garlic flavor as well.
@spicycurry1986 I think we all know where curry originated and I'm not trying to disrespect anyone or the origin of it. What I did say is that the curry from the Caribbean, especially Trinidad and Tobago is better IMO.. your taste will obviously be different and I respect that. I must ask then.. if Indians don't use curry powder.. why is I see it being sold at Indan grocery stores?
Hi Chris, what brand Curry do you use? I know alot of west indian's use Lalah's, Thank you and nuff respect on your video's, they are perfect for those learning.
chattooooOOn , BRAVOOO!! simpatico. thanks alot. ciao from italy naples. ciaooOOOOO :) i try some things like that in suriname. nice cooching too, but here in my smal city we don't have mani ingredients, like agiuma, and okro.mannaggia, i miss that. also the green mango gnam gnam.
@spicycurry1986 we have a curry factory in Trinidad and they make a blend that they have named Madras Curry if that helps you to understand what Chris is speaking about. The curry blend does not come from Madras or India but sweet Trinidad and Tobago
indeed i'm going to guess, that since as you say curry powder is unheard of in india, and people everywhere else use the generic yellow curry powder that i know to be caribbean in formation, it's likely that while the world knows curry to be indian, the curries made elsewhere are copies of recipes formed in the caribbean, trinidad, guyana, suriname etc
I forgot the hot pepper.. I also forgot the Green Onion....But I am still going to make this tonight.. I couldn't find the size shrimp you used.. but some from the Gulf Coast.. which is better than those from Thailand... Its all going over Rice... Yum...
your Curry chicken was great! it really reminded me of Trinidad! i will try the shrips soon. i have a question though ... i am under the Impression that the "shrimpy" taste is more intense if you don't use pealed ones. would you agree to that, or would you say there is no differance? PS: are you a trini? greetings from Germany!
@spicycurry1986 The term "curry" doesn't actually mean very much. Curry is a generic description used in Western culture to describe a variety of dishes from Southeast Asian cuisines. Typically, 'curry' powders include turmeric, coriander, and cumin. However, many more spices are often added contributing to the vast regional variations. There are many people of Indian origin in the Caribbean. Traditional cuisines adapt to local ingredients and tastes.
Two options: 1) You can order it from amazon.com 2) you should be able to get it at your local ethnic (especially Asian) supermarkets...u don't have to get curry that is specifically labeled as Caribbean...good luck, and cheers
@xxdirectorxx curry powder is NOT used in authentic cuisine. It is only sold in western countries as a sort of short-cut way of making curries, or for people that aren't that confident in cooking curries. But curry powders are unheard of in india. Traditional indian homes also never use curry powders.
you're a bit confused i think. curry powder, as it is, pre-made is a caribbean thing. indian food from the caribbean takes shortcuts because the indians there spent much of their days working in non-food-preparation for plantation owners. we also wrap rotis, which is not done in india
xxdirectorxx If you read and think about it, you will get it. In India you don't go to the store and buy curry powder, cause you won't find it. Every region has it's different take on curry and Madras has it's take on the basic curry taste which European took and then the Western people copied to make it now known as Madras Curry Powder which everyone knows. I should know because I'm Indian, so think before you speak.
The introduction is quit long time, it should be shorter. But, it's quite easy to make it. Just dissatisfied about the introduction from the beginning you might feel little bored but, you have to finish the video so you can understand the recipe step by step. No offends to all. Just saying my side.
I don't mean to be rude, your trini curry shrimp was great but Madras curry powder is from India not the Caribbean, it originated from Madras now know as Chennai, sorry to break it to you but west indian is still indian, just in different parts of the world. Curry was born in India. In India we don't use made curry powder, there is no such thing, we make curry powder, and it always differs according to what spices we use and how much or less we add in.
Love how you cook. This dish looks well seasoned, flavorful, and tasty. I've subscribed to your channel. Please check out my "Curry Shrimps" video. Thanks for sharing.
love dis! and btw why are we having a curry dispute?????? this person must not have notthing better to do..us caribbean people who are decendants from indians from INDIA and non-indians alike have no interest in ur lecture on CURRY POWDER AND ITS DEFFERENT REGIONS IT IS DERIVED FROM or whatever the hell your trying to say! how about you leave CARIBBEAN curry shrimp alone and just stick to watching INDIANS FROM INDIA videos, since your such a currt expert!
