Personal opinion from someone who has lived in large metropolitan areas and small towns. The cultural diversity issue is genuine. More people, more diverse talents and more choices to enjoy the things that people produce with their talents. Greenville has abundant charm and good weather and all sorts of nice things. But big cities offer much more variety. In one large city where we lived there were 100 suburbs offering cultural events, sporting events, music shows, festivals, etc.
I was born and raised in Greenville and remember how safe it was to travel through Berea into the DT area where you could park freely while chilling with your friends where all you had on Main street was Fudruckers, Uptown downtown, and the Hyatt!! Now Greenville is so overcrowded that there is no space for no one and they are trying to put buildings, and condo's that are 100,000's$ per unit on top of one another trying to accommodate this once beautiful city that you could chill on main street comfortably without mobs of people coming from every angle, turn, and corner of the streets! Now you need a Xanax just to drive towards main street and Academy st. Not to mention going further toward Haywood, than you need to double dose your meds when you to towards Woodruff Rd. Yikes!! But it didn't used to be like that in the good ole days when you could find an 2 bedroom apartment for 500$ a month back in the 2000's back. This is why I own a house In a small community called Dacusville where everyone knows everyone. Damn don't tell anyone lol
Our road infrastructure is terrible for a small midsized metro. South Carolina road structure as a whole. I'm glad its no Atlantis or Charlotte, especially Atlanta traffic. Some Greenvillans who been here most of their life like me fear the urban changes. She's trying to maintain its small city charm. I would not trade Greenville for othet cities I been to. Greenville is hospitable unlike some cities, the big cities,, I've been to.
The Greenville metro area has plenty of untapped land to fix your problem. Where I live in Florida they are trying to fill a gallon milk container with more than a gallon of milk.
