I just finished making the lunch sack! I added handles (pillaged from a gift bag). Also after I topstitched the top, I stitched in the ditch down the side seam several inches to keep the lining from billowing up. Great video. Thank you!!!
I started following you on your main Channel because I was looking for eco-friendly videos and just totally fell in love with your lifestyle. You are definitely #lifegoals! I'm so glad to find that you have a second Channel.
Love these projects... you are such an inspiration to us all... especially the newbies:) I'm a 50 yr veteran,,, so i'd like to share something.... I find a stitch length of 4 keeps the fabric pretty stable and prevents puckering as well as beginning in the center and working "outward" sometimes helpful with the quilting. Keep up the good work... and thanks for coming to MSQC to help we loyal fans..:))
I’m six years late to the party, but thank you for this video! It was precise, clear and technical! My granddaughter will enjoy using her new lunch bag!
Miss your smile! Love the tutorial, planning on making a few for gifts. But miss that lovely smile of yours, while you are working on your projects. Barb
Beth Arcuri I read her messages on one of the Blogs. She is one busylady, going back and forth from Missouri to Florida. So that mightbe the reason, this tutorial was that way. I do love her tutorials andhappy she is doing so well. Still a fan, with or without the smile.Take care. Barb Bohr
I have jury duty next week and plan on taking my lunch. I don’t have a small reusable lunch bag, but I remembered you had this tutorial! Thanks Vanessa!
Vanessa - really cute bag! Quick tip - if you cut your insulfleece slightly larger than your cotton, you can quilt continuously - stitching along the waste to get to the next row of quilting. :) Then just trim it all after you're done quilting!
I always enjoy browsing through all your videos to see what I might find to make next. This insulated sack is going to come in handy this summer for transporting various food items to the marina. Can't wait to get started with this one!
Vanessa, I am sooooo impressed with your sewing skills and creativity. I haven’t stopped watching you since I discovered you a couple of days ago. You are the cause of my sleep deprivation! Now I can use my new birthday present (sewing machine)!
As a substitute teacher I could sure use one of these, but I have kids who work and grandkids who go to school and I think everyone would love one of these. I just bought fabric to make drawstring backpacks for three of the girls. I had just made my son one to take his swimsuit and towel to the river on campus. But, I think they may get the Lunch Sacks as well.
Wonderful Tutorial! I found some hard, reusable ice packs at Walmart and put pockets on the inside. Now I can just slip the ice packs in the pockets and go!
i love how you teach sewing projects. i was wondering if you would do a PJ pant tutorial. i have been serching for a good one, but i am parshal to your way of showing us how to go about things. thank you for your time :-)
Love the snack bag on previous tutorial. Want to know if you have a tutorial on the little fabric basket with the points I see holding the clips in front of your machine. Thank you!
I wish people would list what fabrics they came up with. I see one person did Harry Potter. That sounds great for one gift. I have literally rooms of fabric choices to choose from and I just stare and see nothing sometimes, brain freeze. Thanks for sharing. new sub.
Hi Vanessa, I love watching your videos very much. All your projects are very useful. This is a perfect size of the lunch bag!! Quick question: Can I use insul bright instead??
Hiya - great video thank you. I love watching yours and Jenny's videos.A question, could you attach a small handle on this at the time of sewing the lining and outer fabric together? Many thanks.
I keep meaning to say this and for some reason keep forgetting but whoever does your camera work does a really nice job. I keep assuming it's your husband, but I guess it could be a friend. Whoever it is, I think they contribute a lot towards your videos because I can just focus on you and the project. Quite often other people are adjusting their own camera and there are other distractions that can make watching their videos a little less pleasant :). I'm definitely planning on making one of these. I think I might try some laminated fabríc. Thank you for the tutorial!
Hi! I really enjoy your videos and projects! I have one question/comment. I continually have issues with lining fitting properly. This is across the board - not just this bag - but most bags. Everybody's tutorials say that if you cut and stitch accurately, the lining with fit nicely. I am soooo super careful when cutting and I use different techniques for keeping seam allowances consistent - it's almost maddening. But, the lining is always too big. Does anybody else have this problem? What have you done to solve the issue? Oh, I made this bag (lining too big) for a gift, but I took it on a road test and got many compliments - love it!!!
Many bag designers/bag "tutors" recommend taking a slightly larger seam allowance in the lining. for instance, take the same maybe 1/2" seam allowance near the top of the bag where the lining and exterior will be firmly joined but increase your seam allowance to maybe 5/8" after you get an inch or so down from that top edge. that way your lining is just a bit smaller than the exterior and fits very neatly without being too saggy. (I just realized that I am responding to a 5 year old post, but if you haven't caught on to this tidbit it may still be useful to you. happy sewing!)
I have a question, instead of making the box corners they way you demo'd, could you cut a 2" square out of the bottoms of both liner and outside piece. And then after stitching all around so those open the corners seam to seam and stitch across?
Helpful with the corner of the bag . need help on the ones you cut out like a square I cut it out when I sew it's uneven the one side come out perfect and other side come out smaller have to turn it back over and sticks the line longer thanks for your help please
I just watched this, and had to realize it never occured to me to put the insulation side facing inside when I was making my oven mittss. Oops :)) great video!
I think for the oven mitts the shiny side would needs to be facing the outside like you already do...because the heat comes from the outside and you are trying to deflect it from your hand on the inside...if that makes any sense.😉
So cute! Can't wait to make one. I have one quick question. With the lining, is it necessary to to cut off the corners like you did with the outer fabric? Or is it not necessary where it's not as bulky?
I have a directional fabric. Which measurement is used for the height of the bag? Is the 13" or the 16" edge used for the height of the bag? I am having trouble catching it in the video. Thanks.
when I pack my lunch I leave my bag in the fridge. most of the bags I have are more of a canvas. is there any concern about using regular cotton fabric?
My friend used a piece of a laminated picnic tablecloth to make hers and it looked great. I'm not sure if they call that material oil cloth or laminated cloth.
I did a few of these for my kids, they loved them! I added a handle to make it easier for them to carry with their bookbags.
How did you add the handle Donna Frollo?
I love the quick pace of your tutorials. My ADD brain doesn't have a chance to get bored!

Denise how did you add the handles?
This is perfect for a back to school gift for some teachers I know. I can't wait to get started.
***** They would love a gift like this! :)

I love this project. I no longer work but I can see me using this for so many other things. I love to watch you. Thanks Vanessa.

So cute! I especially love the fabric you chose.
For the Love of Organizing Thank you! Isn't it fun? :)

songbird857 GREAT TIP!!! Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I love all your tutorials!!!, I only have a basic sewing machine so I don't think I can do much but your tutorials are wonderful and inspirational 😊.
I always enjoy browsing through all your videos to see what I might find to make next. This insulated sack is going to come in handy this summer for transporting various food items to the marina. Can't wait to get started with this one!

I love all your videos! I love the way you explain, it's so clear!! Can you make a tutorial on the box type lunch bag? Thank you :)
Another cute project; thanks!
Nice chica!! School is right around the corner...
This would be a great way to get your child involved in the project. Let them pick the fabric and you could even decorate the bag to each ones taste.
trose721 Absolutely! That's the great thing about doing it yourself... you can personalize it however you like! :)
Super cute with the Velcro touches! He wants a Batman lunch bag at 50!!
It's awesome, I like your tutorial, it would be glad if you give us weekender/ travel bag tutorial. Hope you will give us soon

Very useful bag, thank you so much.
just made one with harry potter fabric, i added handles and used Kam Snaps instead of Velcro. Thank You for the pattern.
What are Kam Snaps?
Awesome Venessa. 😍
This is perfect....can't wait to make it! Does anyone know if a 9" x 7" tupperware would fit and lay flat on the bottom of the bag?
I wish people would list what fabrics they came up with. I see one person did Harry Potter. That sounds great for one gift. I have literally rooms of fabric choices to choose from and I just stare and see nothing sometimes, brain freeze. Thanks for sharing. new sub.
I love your iron
Love it !!! Is there any way we can make the bag leak proof ?
Hi I love your skill and ability to teach. Do you know if used large chip bags can be used for insulated between fabrics?
Cute project, Vanessa :-)
Slowvannah Farms Thanks for watching!
Vanesa, If I were to make this kind of bag for frozen foods at the grocery, what dimensions should I use? Putting handles on it shouldn't be hard.
I have made this twice and love it! Thank you for this tutorial! How can I add a handle that would be on your wrist?
Hi Vanessa, I love watching your videos very much. All your projects are very useful. This is a perfect size of the lunch bag!! Quick question: Can I use insul bright instead??
Great tutorial
I know you already have one now but you need your own tv show :D
Love the project and I can't wait to make it. Would it be feasible to add a strap?

kellinike It's not necessary if the bulk doesn't bother you. :)
Good video I'm trying this

Oh that's cute! Want to come teach me how to use my sewing machine? 😝
Can you iron the fleece and is it the same as insul-brite? Thanks!
Nice work! what kind of sewing machine is that Vanessa?
Hi there can I use Pelion fusible fleece. To make this ?? I hope so. If not I buy the wrong kind .. Plz let me know thanks
All video is best
Is insulating fleece the same as insul brite?
No. That is a different material. Insulbrite reflects heat. It's what is used in oven mitts and pot holders.
will this fit the easy lunch boxes, their dimensions are 9 3/8"x 6.1"x 2"
Awesome.
Can you use insul-bright instead, i have it left over from the pot holders you made.
Vanessa, I went to Joann yesterday and the girl sold me "Thermolam" and said it would work. Is this ok to use?
Where do you buy the insulating batting?
when I pack my lunch I leave my bag in the fridge. most of the bags I have are more of a canvas. is there any concern about using regular cotton fabric?
Corey Hubbard That shouldn't be an issue at all! :) The Insu-Fleece will do its job and you'll be golden!
My friend used a piece of a laminated picnic tablecloth to make hers and it looked great. I'm not sure if they call that material oil cloth or laminated cloth.
What is the spray product you use on the insul fleece?
t project and it can be fun for adults too...dee
Do you know how you can fix a rip in the insulated part of the lunch bag?!
That happened to me. I just used silver duct tape.
Where do you purchase insofleece?
