I tried it a couple of weeks ago thanks to collecting airline points throughout the pandemic. The extra legroom is very nice but I can't recommend lying down very much; at least for me trying to sleep across turbulence just made me sick and I never get sick on planes while sitting up.
I recently took Zip Air full flat from Bangkok to Narita. I discovered that I actually don’t need the luxury of business class. All I need is a comfortable seat and that was worth the price!
Great flight. Ah yes first STJ overseas trip, even though it's only flying from Japan to Thailand, resting in Thailand and flying back to Japan. Low cost airline but having reverse herring bone seat like this is outstanding to be honest, even though no screen in front of passengers. Sadly your flight is delayed and you didn't have window seat, but at least the window seat beside you is empty.
Zipair might be the only low cost airline with full flat seats. Your seat looked exceptionally comfy. Sorry they didn't serve more curry and rice. As for how I travel, if traveling from the west coast, USA to London, I try to get a business class seat if the price doesn't exceed my budget. If it does, my next go to seat is premium economy. It doesn't lie flat, but it's fairly spacious and you are usually served the same food served in first class. Will see you in the next one. Take care, stay safe.
We have vending machines every quarter mile across Japan at \120-140(that's $1 depending on days of week under current weak yen) so they are bit hamstrung in terms of jacking up prices
STJ! Thank you for yet another one. You had us waiting for quite a while for the !!, but fortunately it came with the curry. Enjoyed watching it! I never wrote this, but I like the little sound alerts you put in!
I once flew IAD-Narita-Bangkok. When I got to Narita & boarded the Bangkok flight, I was so exhausted that I fell asleep in my conventional coach seat as soon as we took off & only woke up when we landed.
Compared to some of the other LCCs flying international routes out of Japan or the US, ZIPAIR is one of the better options. You should probably bring your own food on the flight if you want to eat. I prefer JAL, too... but ANA is the only carrier flying out of my local airport in Toyama...
I will be flying ZipAir Full Flat Seat soon from California for the first time. Being 6'3", I think reserving a FFS is the affordable way to tolerate an 11 hour flight. Thank you for showing your experience. Now I know what to expect.
how did it go? im looking at booking this seat also from california, as i am always miserable in coach seats with back pain. im only 5'3, so i imagine if the seat is comfortable for someone as tall as 6' or above, it would be so for anyone shorter too.
Wow! So cheap! That bottle of water would be at least $5 at an Australian airport. The lounge at our local airport is always packed with workers waiting for flights, so it's strange to see this one empty. Looking forward to seeing the Japan Airlines flight. We fly with them later this year.
I am so glad that I found your UA-cam channel! One of my biggest dreams is to travel to Japan but sadly this will take a long time until I can afford it. Therefore I am so happy to enjoy this wonderful country through your eyes 😊 until my dream comes true!
Must have bigger curry bento! Haha!! I think, for the flat seat to be comfortable, I need a pillow! I'm only truly comfortable lying on my side. It would be decidedly uncomfortable without a big, fluffy pillow!
For an economy flight, it's nice to have a flat-seat option. Have flown MANY long distance flights for business, and comfort and reclining is important. Thankfully, retired now, and don't miss airports or flying. Thanks, STJ, for the review. 👍👏✨😍❤
Great video…. If they play that automated announcement every time they turn on the seatbelt sign I would go crazy. I just flew Asians business class from Osaka to ICN to NYC and it was great. I look forward to seeing your JAL video.
"I believe my meal is coming soon." You only just ate!😁 Anyway, I'm only about 5 foot 7 and long haul flights are probably in my past - but I constantly found it difficult to cope with the tiny seat pitch in "zoo class" as they used to call in the travel trade. So I would love to travel lying down.
Solo you got your Curry I am happy about that. Due to my health I am not allowed to travel overseas now but I dislike flying anyway. I am glad you got to show others who can travel a good alternative. I love when you travel. God Bless and be safe Solo.
Nice seats, terrible looking meal. For the cost I would expect more. The things they could improve wouldn't cost them much at all with the food. You were right, this was more about comfortable human cargo than a flight looking after people.
I just wanted to say that you're such an inspiration to me and I'm really working hard to make videos that are as informative and entertaining as yours. Thank you for always motivating me to do my best!
Full flat seating would be an option for me and I would love that on long haul flights (6+ hours or more). The seats looked comfortable even not fully stretched out.
Wish I had that kind of seat back between 1998-2003 when my parents and I flew every year for 6 month to British Columbia, Canada. The flight took 9 and a half hour from Frankfurt Germany to Vancouver Canada. I was always happy when I could walk around the plane. Funniest thing was we took off at 1:15 pm and landet 3:45 pm the same day because of the 9 hours time difference 😂
I have a strange flying habit. Regardless of time of day or length of flight I am asleep within 15-20 minutes of take off and generally stay asleep for most of the flight. Maybe it's because there's not much to do or see in a metal tube a few miles up in the air. Love every other form of travel, car, bus, train, ship but find flying boring. The only good thing about it is that it gets me to exotic places in hours instead of weeks! Really enjoy your videos STJ, thanks for taking us on your journeys.
For a reality check, go check the prices of business class versus economy. It’s in the ozone, you’re looking at $10k plus on a lot of carriers. I’m retired now and love to travel, this could be a game changer considering it’s $3k round trip with a completely flat seat. After a bunch of even 7 hour and 8 hour flights having a seat with room is invaluable to your physical as well as mental well being. I just booked San Fran to Tokyo for my next adventure and I’m hopeful! Thanks for the informational video. For the money it seems great.
As a Canadian, I have not visited my home for 5 years now, and I'm not excited for the 13 hour flight because of the economy seats. I would love to have flat seats for such long flights :( Regular economy seats really are uncomfortable
flew zipair once recently, probably never again. headrest attached to the seat was uncomfortable in all positions except lying down because it protrudes too much. the meals suck and don't come with anything other than water for drinks. and even though you may pay for full flat seat, it's still a budget airline and you have to pay extra for things like blankets which will end up taking space in your luggage because you bought them not borrowed (they also make their planes super cold compared to other airlines). ANA all the way
I looked into flying ZipAir a few a months back for a flight from San Jose to Narita/Tokyo in December. All seats were already sold out so their launch, at least in California, seems to be doing well. So ANA it is again. JAL prices have gone through the roof.
Their "lie flat" product is very superb. A large, comfortable seat bed with decent foot room for when you lay down. On PAL Airlines Business Class on their A350, they had a sort of "diagnal" foot rest that felt like an awkward parallel from your body box. After a 2.5 hour nap, I got up and had to crack my back.
When I saw that box of food I said to myself, that’s not going to be enough for STJ, a curry lover. Time for a quick bite to eat once you land in Bangkok. Hopefully you show us your trip there! ❤❤❤
It’s always OK to change seats when you see they’re empty, if you want to sit by a window. That was a pretty good view from the lounge of the 787 sitting on the tarmac.
Usually you need to ask for permission to move from the row you're in, since it would affect the plane's balance if everyone were to swap around as they please and because the flight attendants need to know where everybody is in case of an emergency.
I think he misunderstood - they wouldn’t care but it was close to takeoff and they wanted everyone seated with seatbelts on. One 5’6” person moving isn’t going to chg the CG of a widebody.
@@WestCoastAce27 Not one guy, but if everybody switched seats as they please there could be trouble. That's why, and to make sure that the attendants know where everybody is, you generally need to ask for permission. Normally they give it without an issue, though.
Well, what can you expect from a low budget airline? There's always these pros and cons, but at least, I'm glad you're comfortable with the full flat seat.
Solo Travel Japan, OUTSIDE OF JAPAN! This is an exciting development! These budget airline though, they really have a talent to knickle and dime you at every turn. But those destinations look interesting. No Vancouver for Access to Canada sadly... I hope you'll get to experience the cooking of my country too, one day. When I first went to Japan I landed and departed from Narita! When I landed I was interviewed by 'Why are you in Japan?' but I wasn't interesting enough to make it to air... and at departure I ate gyoza at a small counter by the gate! I had completly forgot to eat any gyoza during the trip so I was lucky to find that place in the terminal. It was good!
I've been on a... I want to say Air Canada flight... with no monitors. But they had a sort of local wifi set up where you could connect to an onboard server and watch stuff they had on there. Neat trick. I don't like to watch stuff on my phone or tablet during flight, anything not in front of me gives me transportation sickness, so I usually listen to podcasts and audio books.

Ok, ZipAir gets an A- in my book. They gave you the Curry Rice that you love but the noise in the beginning was giving you a headache. Since those 2 lie flats seats were open they should have offered to let you move over since it's already paid for. Looking forward to your videos from Thailand as I have now seen parts of Japan thanks to you and now Thailand too.
I would consider this seat for a red eye flight but probably not for a daytime flight. Having free WiFi is really good however slow. I really hope you enjoyed your stay in Bangkok…one of my favorite destinations though I have not had a chance to come back since 2019.
nice vlog, but there's NO WAY I could've resisted odering the spicy dried stingray snack. Not that I've ever had stingray before but concept is too intriguiing not to try it and I'm confident it would go great with an Ichiban. & by the way your camera lens fogged up immediately, they should've named Bangkok airport SuPERrnabHUMID! lol!
We flew Zipair last week from Tokyo to San Jose. Even though it was an overnight flight and we chose the lay flat seats, we couldn't sleep. I've flown ANA and had great sleep in their business class but for some reason, even though the seats go flat, it's still not as comfortable as the business class seats of other airlines. The wifi was terrible, the entertainment was lacking and the food portion(like you said) was too small. For $2K round trip from the US, I think premium economy on another airline would be better. If I use Zipair again, I will bring my own food and download more videos on my ipad. Also bring a pillow because they do not give or sell regular pillows on Zipair, only the round the neck version.
My wife and I flew twice already this year @ $650RT from SJ/SF and brought plenty of food and going again in March. At that price, we'll keep flying with Zip.
We all know Solo Travel Japan travels in style… but maybe some time in the near future you can take a ZipAir regular coach seat flight and give us your usual honest opinion 👍👎. Thanks for your usual great video.
I think I would enjoy the full flat seat, and the room to remove my prosthetic leg. Flying in a conventional seat with it is very uncomfortable. The curry did look like a very small portion, but at least you seemed to enjoy it. Thanks for taking us along for this experience.
With the trend of smaller and smaller seats, this looks absolutely luxurious.
Because it's this airline's first class lol. Yeah, first class on airlines is luxurious, even on budget airlines...
Just pay 90s price (adjusted for inflation) and you too and have larger seats.
16:23 This was so funny! Our man STJ pretending not to know what he ordered.. and then getting curry-rice like we wouldn't notice!
Full flat seats sound amazing for long flights to me
