"Sir, the vending machines are all empty. We'll need to restock before our next voyage." "How? We had like three passengers last night." *Solo stands in corner and shrugs*
This trip would be heaven for me as I am very shy and an introvert. On top of being old and handicapped this is why I so appreciate your sharing your journeys with me. ❤😂
It's always a mistake me watching these vids when they come out, because it's usually around 11:00 PM UK time, which means I end up feeling hungry in my bed.
Get curry takeaway on the way home from work. Put in the fridge when you get there. This way, you can eat curry along with Solo Traveler while watching the videos. Also, have extra curry for me - I no longer can eat it and I miss it.
@ My Cancer Journey Scammer! Spammer! Don't try playing the sick card on me! I'm sicker than you so don't even!! I have enough health problems to make your head spin! So take your sick scam somewhere else!!
I’ve seen him take a crummy trip or have it pouring rain etc and turn the circumstances into a fun and interesting change of plans. I would seriously love to go to Japan with him as a guide.
I had a somewhat similar experience flying Singapore to Nagoya a long time ago. It was on a Singapore Airlines 747 and there was a total of 7 passengers onboard - 5 in business class and 2 of us in economy. The cabin crew took it in turns to be our personal crew for the flight. Oddest flight I've ever been on. For the first 2-3 hours I kept feeling like they would announce they'd made a terrible mistake and were going to turn around to go back and pick up the other 250 passengers they had forgotten.
Sounds as though you were on the Langoliers Special that night. ("The Langoliers" is reference to a Stephen King novella that was produced into a television movie, for those of you not familiar.)
I had a Miami to Houston flight like that. There were about 6 of us on board. The FA’s just said sit wherever and instead of rolling the beverage cart out, they said just push the button if we wanted anything. There was literally more crew (FA’s and pilots) than passengers. It was fantastic
Thank you for making these. They were a bit of peace when I was very ill. I don't quite understand what's so compelling about a stranger eating junk food, but your whole channel is very serene.
Solo is like my brother. His stomach is like a black hole, he eats for several people. But he doesn't gain an ounce of weight somehow. Unlike me, who do just looking at food, haha.
Im so amazed by the cleaneness of the ship, the doorms, the bathrooms!!! I imagine that in my country and this would be impossible! people have no manners anymore, butthe japaness people have shown us how respecting eachother and taking care of things works ina sociaty
I have a very hard time speaking to strangers and prefer to be alone at home with my children. This seems like a trip I would really like. Vending machines are fun to try and the lack of crowds would be right up my alley!
It looks like you had a comfortable, if quiet, trip. The vending machines offer a surprising variety of choices for frozen food- I wish the vending machine cafe at my workplace had the same choices. Thanks for the peaceful and pleasing video.
Japan has worked very hard to make meals like this. Their konbini(7 and i / 7-11, Lawson's, Family Mart) will have large sections of ready to eat meals, and probably several shelves of unrefrigerated bread and stuff, all closely controlled to prevent selling old stuff(the registers at 7 and i actually include the expiration in the barcode scan at the register). There's even small boxes of hamburgers, unrefrigerated and strangely okay. If you look at things like their military rations and emergency supplies, many of them come from the shelf stable or long life foods produced for konbinis or vending machines(for example, microwave rice containers and curry in a retort pouch). Japanese people are particular about the food they eat, they wouldn't be okay with stuff like "fiesta pail". If you want the beginnings of this kind of stuff, find the "project X" manga on Momofuku Ando. It's a manga about him working to create cup noodles/top ramen as an industrial mass produced food in a changing Japan(that needed "fast food") to feed it's workers and gives you insight on the what/why/how of Japanese on-the-go food.
The trick is to put the meal container on the paper plate when you microwave it. The paper will not get hot, so you can easily remove the meal from the microwave. Just a wee tip for you :)
Lol. When you got gratin chicken rice for breakfast I said in my head" looks a little heavy for breskfast" , then you said the same thing 😅. Thanks for the trip. ❤
I use your videos to fall asleep every night. Any time there’s a new one, it just makes my whole day and I look forward to bedtime the entire day. Just thought you should know that. Thank you! ❤
As one of a handful of passengers on the ferry, I think I would have been totally freaked out staying in a capsule all by myself! But what lovely weather you had, and I was certain after that huge dinner you'd be getting up for ice cream instead of vegetable juice and vitamin jelly 😂. Thanks for taking us along!
Checking in from Muskogee Oklahoma in the US: I love your videos, don’t know why but I find them very relaxing, informative & funny. Keep them coming please!!!!!
15:48 I love how the curse of the never-ending "Sunflower" song has turned into some kind of good luck charm. Earlier in the video, you said that this ferry was the first video you made for the channel. How do you feel now compared to then? How have you improved in making & editing your videos? What have you enjoyed the most in your recorded travels?
I remember this ferry from a couple years ago. You described it then as the vending machine ferry. Your frozen meals were interesting. I've not seen corn on pizza before, but each to their own. The sea was beautiful. I'm glad you had a good night's sleep and didn't have to fight traffic for the men's bath. Will definitely catch you in the next one no matter where we go. Take care and stay safe.
The Capsules look so cozy. I think I would sleep just fine in one. The food liked edible. I laughed at Vegetable Curry. Thank you for taking us with you. 🕊️❤️🎶
I really can't believe more people aren't on the ferry. The price is so good for such a long distance. You get a low grade on your bed-making skills 🤨 Vending food looks really good. I like pork cutlets (katsu?), dumplings, and potato wedges. Those pizzas are big! Oh no! "Sun Flow...eer!" you are so funny STJ! I really wanted ice cream but it's ok you got the curry. I know you are addicted lol. I love the sea. The water in Japan is beautiful. This trip was very enjoyable and peaceful. Thank you for taking us with you. Safe Travels Always STJ.
I can't believe you can put all that food away, I was looking at the rice dish thinking that would be all I could eat, especially because rice lays heavy in my belly.. love your videos!!
With that ferry almost to yourself, as least there were no lines for anything, there are always bonuses on a quite trip, nice food, sleeping quarters and all the bathrooms to yourself, and no one could complain if you snore or not😅😅💕🇦🇺
Don't think I'd want every trip to be like this, but it seems so relaxing. Vending machine fare isn't great, but No People At All for a while sounds absolutely lovely.
I always find your videos very informative and entertaining - your quiet humour (and not just because it’s all by subtitle rather than spoken 😉) is so amusing. Also, I too have a very healthy appetite, but your food exploits certainly put me to shame 😋😎. PS/ I’m in the UK for information. Good luck for your future adventures 👍.
I didn’t know the “ok to vend” or “ready” or whatever it really is in Japanese but I recognize that HALF-LIFE video game script anywhere!!! From early 2000’s maybe late 90’s? so cool. Love your channel and the fact you don’t need to film your face in selfie mode. I’m not a big fan of that for certain styles of vids. POV quiet as if I was going on the trip and not you. Thanks so much for doing what you do. I love how CLEAN your country is (at least where ever you go). I’d move to Japan and retire their just for the cleanliness.
Alright I love these videos Japan is so beautiful full of amazing wonders one day hopefully I will be able to travel there until then my friend so glad you take us along with you have safe travels ❤
Thanks for another great trip, I really enjoy traveling with you. I Need to get to Japan so I can experience real VENDING MACHINES!!! They are so cool.
Thank you for these videos. I wish my Mom was still here to watch. She was born before WWII in Yokosuka near Yokohama and married an American Navy man. She was only able to get back to Japan for one trip to see relatives. I could tell from her recollections that she missed her native land. I came to Nagoya for business and loved it. But too busy to sightsee. I hope to return, maybe when I am retired. These videos are so wonderful 👍😊
Wow, talk about "solo" travel (pun intended! 😉) Being the sole occupant in that section has its advantage (utter and blissful quietness?!?!). Love those vending machines. Seriously, makes me wish I was younger and adventurous like STJ.
Its a pleasure watch your videos, I kind of envy you, we dont have that kind of transportation here in Argentina but I really enjoy watching your adventures. Cheers Mate, keep them coming!
I feel like you are almost single-handedly keeping these ferries running. It seems kind of sad how empty they are sometimes. But I understand. I love watching your videos and I would love to venture like this one day.
When you post a video I always save it to watch at the end of a day. It gives such a peaceful, enjoyable end to my day. I still haven't been lucky enough to visit but for now I feel like I am there with your videos. I don't understand why they didn't upgrade you due to so few passengers and you being such a loyal customer ?
I once took the Hankyu ferry from Izumiotsu to Shinmoji (it has really good food and cold beer). Well, first I flew into Narita and unpacked my bicycle and rode to Osaka before taking the ferry. When I took my bike onto the ferry, they laid a carpet down which was used to put my bicycle on for transport. After arriving in Shinmoji, I followed the coast around through Kitakyushu to Fukuoka. That was one of my most favorite trips. Thanks for the wonderful video! Seeing Shinmoji Port brought back lots of memories.
I have always been impressed by how immaculate everything is... and the fact that they like to make sure all the vending machines are working and not shut down.
I tell you one thing after watching all your videos.. you have the most gigantic appetite I've ever seen.. you must be a big strapping guy... love all the vending machines... I'm pretty sure I'd like to live on that ship just to eat from the ice cream one..❤..Safe travels..
sun .. flow ... er ... :) I like to save your videos for dinner time, so like it or not we've shared many meals together. I always enjoy it and thank you for your company! Safe and happy travels.
Such a wonderful video. I would very much like to return to Japan one day, I miss it very much and have very fond memories (I visited Osaka and Kyoto in 2004 when I worked for Daikin). Nearly 20 years ago already, it's been too long :(
Thank you for your work. I have missed Japan very much since I was once there. It spoke to me. I apologize for not speaking to you in Japanese. I was lucky enough to be in Kyoto, and of course Tokyo but many other places also. I find Japan the most decent, hospitable and clean and kind country in the world. (I will say, our Canada comes close); but you kept all the high tech. I understand. I am an old traveler trying to be solo again.
It is time you started to use a Napkin to pull out the dishes from the microwave so you don't burn your fingers!! What a beautiful way to start the day with that view. Nice calm and gentle waves with plenty of sunshine. Hugs
New upload just before sleep - thanks STJ for another great relaxing video 👍 Strange to see the ship so empty - do the truck drivers all stay in their trucks?
I lived for many years in Japan, and every day was filled with fun and adventure, yet I missed so much. I really must go back before I am too old to enjoy all Japan has to offer.
Still just in the planning stages, but eventually I want to take a vacation in Japan. Trying to decide on what all I want to do, but I am considering taking a ferry ride as part of my trip.
"Sir, the vending machines are all empty. We'll need to restock before our next voyage."

I feel the same way. I would have loved spending the night in solitude in that little capsule.

@@suzannadannaTARDIS good idea! Eating alone is no fun
Same same.. 😂😂
Y'know, most people would turn a trip surrounded only by vending machines into some existentialist horror film. Not Solo - for him, this is love.
And FOOD!

Japan has well... very different types of vending machines.
Fun fun to tag along! 😉
These videos are so peaceful they're so pleasant to watch 😊

Both Japan and Israel being highly homogeneous societies. The Multiracialism of the US is a disaster.
The food actually looks really good and I love how quiet and peaceful it is with no one around.

I find this so wonderful and peaceful. We don't have ferries like this in my country. I'm very jealous of your travels.
I was also shocked by how big that 1000 yen bill was. 😮
