This could’ve been a great finale if they acknowledged the end of the Moore era, and Bond’s age. Like if he has some trouble while skiing or fighting people, and gently rejects Tanya Roberts and asks Miss Moneypenny to dinner as the last line (but probably doesn’t sleep with her). Sure it’s not the typical Bond formula, but it would’ve been a great end to an era
Not bad ideas. 👍 I feel some of Moore's earlier films were getting too campy. This one at least was more realistic if any of it could be called realistic.
@@kevinobrien9626 “a female”. Why are you describing her like she’s an animal in a nature documentary “Here is the female in her natural habitat, shagging Roger Moore.”
Yes, I admit that every time I watch this film, Moore's age bothers me more and more. But I still find the film too amusing to be bothered by it. Maybe they should have come up with stunts that are more appropriate and believable. I would have liked that. They could have compensated for the lack of spectacular stunts with clever dialogue and some suspenseful scenes. Bond almost dying from a heart attack in Casino Royale is a good example. You can do great suspenseful stuff without crazy stunts. And you have a dose of crazy with Zorin. Him shooting everyone is a memorable scene. They could have made this film more realistic and sombre. But I like it as it is. I am fine with it. I never find myself feeling bored while watching it.
@@prashanttewari104 Since I'm heterosexual I can't give you an opinion about MayDay's lips, but I do like her character. She's a crazy Badass, and a great Bond villian. Happy New Year!🎉
@@mariakelly5 I think may day looks so hot when she appeared first time in horse race with Zorin in red dress with lovely red lipstick lips I was not born when this movie released but I like may day I think if I say for kisses she gives me easily big French kisses right?????
Honestly, I know A View to a Kill is considered one of the least popular but I've always enjoyed it. From the insane performance of Christopher Walken and Grace Jones to the score to even that charm of Roger Moore, it's always been a guilty pleasure. However, I do think if this had been Daltons first Bond and the script more catered to his style, this would've been a lot better.
@Wadsy Agree moore should of stepped down after octopussy or indeed moonraker even and let dalton debut in this as i consider tim dalton the better bond and is more realistic than cheesy moore.I consider moore's performance as simon templar with a 007.
I didn't think Moore looked as old in "View" as Connery did in "Never Say Never Again". Has anyone else ever wondered why Maude Adams just happened to drop by the set and do a cameo background? Was she visiting the set or Roger? Adams and Moore had great chemistry in "Man with the Golden Gun" and in "Octopussy". Hmmmm.
True as far as the „look“ comparison between Moore/Connery goes, but that wasn’t the question for critics in 85. The difference in Octopussy vs. „View“ was the issue!
I was in the theater when this movie came out. The Beach boys song got a lot of laughter and a lot of applause. For those of you that weren’t there the Beach boys and early 60s culture was having a Renaissance in the 80s… it was right for the time. All I can say is you had to be there.
Indeed, younger audiences often complain about things they find culturally weird, but Bond was always on the pulse regarding current trends. People loved that, just as they loved campy stuff in Moonraker or even Bond doing Tarzan in Octopussy. The mentality of the people changed. There was a wonderful innocence and simplicity back then. People were willing to forgive excess and just roll with it and laugh at it.
@@dancingqueen2131 Actually you’re right he was not alive when this movie came out… However he has a love and knowledge for the fandom that I give props to… I just always defend this particular gag and hopes that he will read it… Lol @CalvinDyson
Let alone that the arguably most intelligent villain in the series heedlessly leaves his fingerprints on the gun he killed Howe with... still love the movie!
@Julian Borges i was referring especially to how hilariously obvious moore's body doubles are in every action scene -- it's startling how clearly and easily you can tell, more so than any film i've seen. the horse trap and the paris car are chase are especially guilty.
@Julian Borges moore isn't to blame per se, though his age clearly prevented him from doing anything approaching a stunt -- john glen and his editors just stopped giving a shit. but that's the joy of AVTAK: experiencing a kind of uncanny valley where we're led to believe "moore" is doing all these insane feats yet when the car gets cut in half in paris (for example) you can see the stuntman's face for like two seconds flat
Maria Kelly yes Dolph Lundgren had a cameo as KGB agent Venz. He is seen in scene when May Day throws one of General Gogols men down stairs and Lundgren is the young blonde agent holding a hand gun. He was hired as he was dating Grace Jones and was also her body guard when he was working in a nightclub before becoming an actor. Dolph Lundgren went on to star in Rocky 4 as Drago in 1985 his first larger role.
Actually, "A VIEW TO A KILL" contains some very good stuff: Big landmarks: Eiffel Tower and Golden Gate Bridge! Good acting of Roger Moore and Patrick Macnee! And I always like horses! Oo yes, the oldest Bond actor ever: Roger Moore(57)! And finally, Bond gets The Order of Lenin from KGB!!!
Really, it took me along time to like the movies but Roger Moore last movie , moneypenny last movie too and a new generation of James bond movies was next I do not the guns and the shooting
Moore was always my favorite Bond as well. Everyone has their favorite and each one is just as valid but for whatever reason Moore always appealed to me over the others.
I'm sure many people like the tune, but it is surely not "Bond". Bond theme music is sung by a female vocalist, high and loud. This is a bit gayish for Bond..
There's some good stuff in this film. I like all the detective work that's going on. The plot, however dated, is still good. Walken and Jones are outstanding. As with Octopussy, if you put aside the campiness, there's a dark edgy streak in this one, especially with Zorin. Roger is fine as always, but I struggle to get past how bad he looks. This really should have been Dalton's first film. Watching him go up against Walken would have been cinematic gold.
She would have been better main Bond Girl than Tanya Roberts any day of the week. Roberts is a hottie but that's about it. Seriously, she's such a friggin airhead in this movie and just about anything else she's ever done too. She gives Jill St. John's Tiffany Case and Britt Ekland's Mary Goodnight both a run for their money in the dumb bimbo department.
I also think the Zorin machine gun massacre is a highlight of the movie. Then again, I thought the Water Temple was one of the best parts of Ocarina of Time.
This is my guilty pleasures and would say it’s my 3rd favorite bond film it’s just so fun I can see why people don’t like it and Tanya Roberts gets annoying in places but for me it’s just 2 hours of pure fun entertainment and I’d agree that Duran Duran’s song is awesome
During Roger moore funeral the music from spy who loves me was play he said a view to kill his last james bond movie had different actors doing his actons more than any james bond movie he in
I'm given to understand that Anya Amasova WAS supposed to show up again, but I guess Barbara Bach wasn't available or something, so they went with a new character instead.
+Jennifer Schillig I learned that soon after uploading this too, as someone pointed it out to me on the AJB boards. Turns out Barbara Bach was asked but apparantely didnt want to do it. I have no clue why she wouldnt want do do that again! Ohwell... Missed oppertunity for both her and the series.
@@DutchBondFan not totally sure, but i read somewhere that she and Moore didnt get on fabulously well during The Spy Who Loved Me’s production. Maybe that put her off returning?
@@mmsiphonevinyls1027 Barbara did not care for the Bond character, the film series, or was just way too content with her life with Ringo Starr to do a return engagement. She likely does not believe she missed a thing!
I always thought that the Duran Duran theme was one of the most popular Bond themes if one of the more unconventional ones and I freaking love it too. This, however, is probably one of my least favorite Bond films. Only the wacky villains are really worthwhile in my opinion as the action is nothing special, Stacy is rather annoying, Moore is too old and the film is also a bit slow at times.
@@DutchBondFan It's amazing how you can squeeze them all into around 30 minute recaps, I like the intros, the plot following, and the extra jokes you add in! Since I was born in the 90s and my first bond experience was watching goldeneye on tv in the early 2000s, I never considered the old 60s/70s would ever be worth watching but after binge watching your reviews first I'm eager to watch them all now!
This and Quantum Of Solace I have a love/hate relationship with. I find myself becoming nostalgic for them but everytime I finish watching them I just feel a bit disappointed. Have to give credit to Christopher Walken and Grace Jones, they really make this movie for me.
Can't say I really feel any nostalgia for Quantum as of yet. I think that movie is still to fresh and new to give me any sentimental value. But I can see where you are coming from!
Worth waiting for. This is one of my favorite Roger Moore Bond films. As with most Bond films, there's something for everyone, even though there are some cheesy moments that are just plain bad. Tanya Roberts, despite her annoying screaming "James, James!" is a real beauty. Those eyes of hers are hypnotic. The Golden Gate fight scene is well done, with an ax being used by Zorin. Stacy somehow manages to emerge from a dirty wet mine, tumble out of a blimp onto a cable, and still has a dry, perfectly white dress and high heels on. What a woman, what balance. I would note that Bond doesn't kill the goons that break into the mansion because the shotgun was loaded with rock salt. For the 80's the plot was excellent as Silicon Valley was the hub for chip development and production. Lots and lots of memorable lines and scenes in this film. "Mayday will provide you with a drink." "So does anyone else want to drop out?" The poetic justice of Zorin falling to his death over water mixed well with the businessman being ejected from the blimp and falling to his death over the water. Moore was a bit too old, but I think he pulled it off well and ended on a high note. Well done review, as there was lots of ground to cover in this one.
I'm glad I found these while rewatching all the Bonds during quarantine. These videos are well made and really help you think about the overall film. Great job!
This film is not among my favorites in the Bond-series. Moore is old in this movie and it shows, but Christopher Walken does a great job as the villain. The title song from Duran Duran are also among the best in the series.
Wait... was that Ivan Drago with Gogol? Your series has revealed some very odd things about the Roger Moore Bond films. First, that Tywin Lannister can be seen chasing after 007 in the snowy mountains of Northern Italy, and now that Ivan Drago is Gogol's bodyguard. And I've seen this movie too many times to count, and I never noticed!
This film was Dolph Lundgren's first appearance in a movie. He was hanging out on set visiting his gf, Grace Jones, and the director decided to throw him in the movie. He shot Rocky IV later that year.
MrColuber yes Dolph Lundgren was in his first role as bad guy KGB agent Venz. It was his first role as he was dating Grace Jones and was her body guard while working at a nightclub before becoming an actor after he had given up on pursuing career in Chemical Engineering as had worked on getting his Masters Degree and chose to be an actor.
A view to a kill is one of my all time favourite Bond "pop" themes. Shame it's attached to such a weak movie and it's sad to see Moore leave with a very disappointing film. It's a lot of fun and the villains are wonderfully crazy but it's definitely flawed. Can't wait to see you take on the Dalton movies, they are my favourites!
Another entertaining and informative review . I liked the comparison of Tiffany Case and Stacy Sutton. It’s like they were needed to be damsels in distress after being introduced as no nonsense ,strong willed women.
I was Born in 1980. This was the first Bond I watched. It used to be my favourite film. As I’ve grown up Its no longer my favourite bond, but it couldn’t have been that bad a film as it hooked me in. Roger was always my Bond
This film should not have been made. It sums Moore's tenure up though, as you begin to see him smerk, grin, & pout all the way through the film because he is just not comfortable with acting, & would rather just fuck about with humour. And the problem is, people don't react to danger & violence like that in reality, so his films seem very boring & dated. And this fact is highlighted even more once you compare it to the next, & imho the best performance of Bond in the entire series with Timothy Dalton. You kind of rushed this review a little towards the end, but I don't blame you! Most people just want it over & done with! Like Diamonds are Forever & Die Another Day! lol! Great review tho man. ;)
Caldera Records it’s not that shouldn’t been made, Roger Moore had intentions of retiring during Octopussy but decided to come back. Timothy Dalton was heavily considered to take over had Moore left the role before A View To A Kill started filming. It was after filming and it premiered when Moore retired the role of Bond and in 1986 Timothy Dalton took over the role when Pierce Brosnan couldn’t do The Living Daylights due to his contract commitment with tv show he was doing.
@John Kelly I never like to impose competition as to the Bond title themes, because they are so far apart in terms of era, culture, tradition, & tastes. The "best" is something which always separates from the rest. However, I think the best has come & gone! And agree that this has a certain bombastic affect that the recent themes lack entirely, because there's too many people involved now. I will state however, that John Barry's sound has never yet been matched. His stripped down yet unorthodox brass hierarchy, along with his unrivaled strings motif still to this day sounds very defined, & set a standard which many have tried & failed to copy. Just listen to OHMSS/We Have All the Time In the World & you'll hear what I mean.
Alison Doody plays Jenny Flex, seen dressed in riding clothes as she greets Bond as he arrives at Zorin’s steps. She also played Elsa in Indiana Jones, the Last Crusade. @10:10
11:38 17:18 The youngest women Bond hooks up with are both in FYEO! Bouquet has an age difference of almost 30 years with Moore and Lynn Holly Johnson is a year younger than Bouquet. From the age difference, Lynn Holly Johnson is the youngest girl that ever hooked up with Bond. And the girl at 4:42 is only 2 days younger than Bouquet as well ;)
Hi DutchBondFan. Yes, it's possible to use a car tire as an air supply underwater. Very likely, Bond's cleverest method of escape from a villain murder attempt.
May Day is awesome and Walken rocked it as Zorin. As you said, unsettling yet so different and it's all explained. If you're gonna go fully absurd with your villains, you gotta commit to it, and to 'AVTAK's credit, it does.
Another great review dude! Can't wait for The Living Daylights! I hold a special place in my heart for TLD because it was the first Bond Film I ever saw! I sure hope that review is as good the others!
this movie is weird and nutty and I absolutely love it! even tho it's far from being one of the best it's undoubtedly my favorite Roger Moore bond and the score is amazing!
For the opening sequence-- you gotta remember, when this film came out "snowboarding" was a *really* "new thing" to most of the public at large... so like the water-bike in TSWLM or the gyrocopter "Little Nellie" in YOLT, or even the three-wheeler Bond stole from the security guard in the moon buggy chase in DAF, this was a really interesting and exciting bit at the time, and the Beach Boys music was appropriate for the time and subject matter... after all, in most people's minds, "snowboarding" was the winter equivalent of "surfing", and since it was new and all to most people and the Beach Boys craze was winding down, it made a lot of sense... *Poisoned* fish hook... but yeah, May Day could have easily shot him from the shadows without the elaborate butterfly thing... evidently someone saw this somewhere and decided "We GOTTA have this act in a Bond film!" and this is the best they could come up with to shoehorn it in... (or elsewise the hot chick singing to the butterflies was the producer's niece or something). I mean, it's a nice bit, but I just don't think this is a good fit for it and the movie... The glasses were supposed to be "polarized" lenses, which again was kinda new for the time, and allowed him to see through polarized glass that was otherwise totally black, or something like that. The lenses had to be round for them to work, since the lenses had to rotate in their mounts to match the polarization of the glass he was trying to look through... because of this they looked pretty "out of place" and not in any way stylish, unlike the sunglasses Bond wore when he told Domino her brother was dead in "Thunderball" or the "see through clothes" glasses in one of the Brosnan films... Why not have Felix Leiter?? Simple, because Chuck Li gets wiped out... "his body was found in Chinatown"... "So Bond being Bond goes after Zorin to rescue Stacy-- God knows why...." Two words-- dat azz... :) He hadn't banged her yet at this point in the film, and you KNOW he's going to at SOME point, so yeah, of course he's coming after Stacy... and he can't leave Zorin alive without a big showdown between them, so yeah... Anyway, another great review... OL J R :)
Sven Dovianus I hate Tomorrow never dies *the song* and also this movie, Casino Royale is the best movie, with the best villian, Car, bond girl, M and the best pre title seq.
I don’t think that Sir Roger Moore was old, the problem was that they intended to make a “young Bond movie”. If they incorporated a more mature bond with and older Bon Girl would be easier to watch this last Moore Movie. AVTAK is a good popcorn flick but if they gave us a decaying Bond just like Skyfall the movie would be fairly better.
This one is my favorite, I think because its the first one I saw as a kid, so its quite a memorable one for me. Plus the credit sequence with the Duran Duran song still holds up and is VERY 80s in a wonderful way
Two movies too long IMO. He should have finished with FYEO which was a great movie. Octopussy and AVTAK were two weak movies and Moore was too old to be believable. If they'd brought in Dalton in 1983 it would have been better as the public were sick of the cheesy Bond and wanted more serious hard-edge Bond.
Just watched this movie again in honor of May Day. Annual tradition. The movie certainly tries to copy the Goldfinger formula, but without the high camp. Unfortunately it also didn't copy the epic scale of a dastardly villain plot, which is sad because Zorin and May Day are both fun and compelling to watch and deserved something that felt BIG. As is the filming, John Glen was masterful throughout his time in the Bond series. Is it just me or is Pola Ivanova having a dubbed voice? Duran Duran was an inspired choice. John Barry working with them created the best from all involved. I almost prefer the score of AVTAK to The Living Daylights, but John Barry always defined the style. His 80s stuff is always supreme, though! Ditto for Maurice Binder's visuals. Modern Bond films' titles just don't have the same feel, though 2006's Casino Royale comes close. Thank Chris Cornell's powerful song, as much as the visual aspect looked good it's also true that Bond is into Baccarat and not Texas Chainsaw Poker. Loved your video covering the movie! You're right on all counts and, yeah, why didn't they get Barbara Bach back?
Thanks man! Yes, moving in around the weekend! only need to bring my desk and bed over and such. Consider this the final video recorded in the old place! (Thanks for asking!)
I was 16 years old when I first saw this on the big screen. And boy, what a really wide screen it was. Movie was fantastic and I still enjoy it today. Your review is also very good!
I didn't know Rodger Moore had altered his face, boy I need to be a bit more observant in these movies. Great episode Looking forward to the Dalton era, I can't believe this week marks the 10th year for Casino Royal and Daniel Gregg playing our favorite secret agent.
In an earlier Finnish translation of the film when they were flying the blimp over San Francisco it used to be translated literally "What a view! Tokyo!"
Grace Jones was awesome!!! and she and Dolph lungren were an item back in the day...she still looks the same I think... gotta love her, I wish she made more movies she was great.
Good stuff as always DBF! Just watched this one the other day, waiting for you review. A good Bond adventure, though flawed. Definitely two of my favorite villains. Mayday kinda turns into the weak girl for a moment after Zorin ditches her in the mine. "I thought that creep loved me" lol
Dammit your Bond reviews really are superb and well researched. To keep me ticking over I'll have rewatch them all again to pass the time waiting for The Living Daylights to arrive.
DutchBondFan Credit where it's due mate, you're clearly a huge fan of the films and it shows in your reviews. Just one thing annoys me, yours subs, you deserve so many more. I've seen channels on here that are just terrible that have half a million subs, it baffles me because Bond is as popular as it's ever been yet you seem not to appear on people's radar.
Balti Pasta That is nice of you to say! To be honest i'm extremely happy about my subs and fanbase so far! Because they have been growing steadily. Before I started making Bond videos, I was doing videos on the GTA games. They were popular but up on recent years the views started going down, I was putting tons of effort into them for little reward. Lots of kids demanding a new video and sending me three word comments that made little sense or were offending. Bond has always been a major passion of mine and I couldn't be happier about the switch! I have gained around 2000 subs since, I see my videos discussed on several forums, I see people eagerly awaiting these episodes and they each get thousands of views. Of course there are channels out there with half a million subs like you said, but it's like starting a company and immediatly comparing yourself to McDonalds, it just doesn't go that way! I'm happy that these videos are doing as well as they do! And even though they each take roughly 30 hours to make, I never have a single doubt in my mind of why I'm putting so much effort in, because I just know I'll get a major rewarding feeling in return! Thanks for your comment!
DutchBondFan Hey, if you're happy with how it's going then that's great. I guess it does take time to build up subs and 6000+ isn't bad but it's Bond and you do deserve more because the reviews are ridiculously entertaining, informative, honest and often very funny. And thank you for the unexpectedly long reply, I won't take up any more of your time and I eagerly await the notification of your Living Daylights review popping up in the not too distant future.
No problem man, I always enjoy interacting with my fans. I'm easy to reach to have private chats on my FB fanpage too! I talk to other fans all the time! Also, expect that notification to show up in november! ;)
This is the most positive I've ever heard someone talk about this film. Still one of my least favourites, but now I understand a few more of the weirder scenes!
Other similarities with "Goldfinger": 1. The main villain is cheating at a sport for financial gain. 2. The main villain falls to his death from a great height.
Plus the main female with the villain turns against the villain and helps 007 (Pussy Galore in "Goldfinger" and May Day in "A View To A Kill"). The only difference is being one becomes the movie's main Bond Girl while the other becomes a femme fatale.
Splendid, I'm looking forward to what your opinions are on the Dalton and Brosnan movies soon. Also, nice GTA reference during the chase scene, I feel like you should've used the Vice City HUD though.
11:00 "The most useless gadget that apparently makes Bond see through windows a little better." There're simply adjustable polarizing lenses, just like a polarizing filter for a camera lens. They block reflected light while allowing light from behind the reflecting surface to pass through. Nothing magical there.
That was exactly my point. They could have easily made it so he would just look through the window without a gadget, they just added something into a movie where the reflections are blocked out so he sees things a little better. Movie wise for an audience, it's pretty dull :P (Not to mention the way they look!)
I see your point. But as you have alluded to in many of your recaps, the Bond franchise can't resist showing hi-tech gadgetry, even if it doesn't contribute to the plot in any way.
BTW, it's not the actual Beach Boys singing "California Girls" at 3:50, but a tribute band named Gidea Park. Plus, 14:48 was the debut of actor Dolph Lungren (Golgol's KGB bodyguard), who was dating Grace Jones at that time.
I wonder if Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol got the “Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner survive drowning by breathing air out of a car tire” idea from this film? Complete with “antagonists sticking around awhile to make sure they drown” as well.
For me Walken and Jones just steal the show in this movie. I mean, I love Moore but he's too old and it's distracting for me. And Tanya's performance was pretty annoying as well. But honestly, Walken and Jones make this movie for me.
It has weak points but there are other aspects that even it out. Great villains and it doesn't go way over the top campy like some of Moore's previous outings.
As a kid I never noticed Moore's age in this movie. This was another one we had on VHS and being from the Bay Area (San Jose) it was super cool to see James Bond in San Francisco. And Christopher Walken and Grace Jones are awesome villains
I only just remembered that Moore apparently met Tanya Roberts' mother during the production of this movie and was apparently horrified to learn she was actually younger than him.
Roger Moore said that in his other movies to that several of Bond girls had mothers younger then him. Live And Let Die he was 45 and Jane Seymour was 21 her mother was about the same age as him or younger. He couldn’t stand Lynn Holly Johnson on For Your Eyes Only who was 21 and her mother was younger then him by several years.
HUGE plot hole: Silicon Valley does not manufacture microchips, but rather they use them in their products. Zorin would have killed his customers, not the competition.
Back in the eighties, a lot more microchips were actually manufactured there. This is before Mainland China got in on the act, although microchips were being manufactured in places like Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and even Scotland.
View to a kill is an interesting one for me. I was born in 1980. VTAK was the first Bond I watched. Meaning for years every Bond I watched I compared to this movie. As a kid I loved this film. The slapstick humour, the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge ending, however I know I would’ve probably hated this film if I watched it as an Adult. Because As a 5 year old I never noticed Roger’s age. After all an adult is an adult to a 5 year old. One thing that didn’t change for me. Is whenever someone mentions Bond I always imagine Roger Moore. He was my Bond growing up. It’s a memorable film but not a great one.
Love your bond recaps! A View to a Kill was the first bond film I ever saw as a kid so it holds a lot of sentimental value to me and I am sure I have it higher up on my list than other fans. I can't help but like it however I do feel that it would have been great as Timothy Daltons first movie. Can't wait for TLD!
Mason Saucedo you have a similar reason to me about liking this film! This wasn't the first one (we'll get to that next time) but it WAS the first Roger Bond Film I ever saw (it was the fourth Bond I watched)!
This guys hilarious. A View to a Kill is my favorite Bond film (probably for the nostalgia since it’s the first one I saw as a kid) but this review had me laughing out loud. Well done.
I honestly do not understand why people dislike this film and Octopussy so much... They're both great! Honestly The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, Octopussy and A View To A Kill are my favourite Roger Moore Bond films..
Thanks a lot Dave! Comments like these make all the hard work worth while! Each episode takes a good 30 hours to produce, so seeing the appreciation from fans really makes my day!

I agree. I love the little laughs he gives while reading Bond's bio.

I didn't think Moore looked as old in "View" as Connery did in "Never Say Never Again". Has anyone else ever wondered why Maude Adams just happened to drop by the set and do a cameo background? True as far as the „look“ comparison between Moore/Connery goes, but that wasn’t the question for critics in 85. The difference in Octopussy vs. „View“ was the issue!
Connery looked sharper in NSNA than Moore in AVTAK. Those liftings done really take the bright out of Moore's face.
I was in the theater when this movie came out. The Beach boys song got a lot of laughter and a lot of applause. For those of you that weren’t there the Beach boys and early 60s culture was having a Renaissance in the 80s… it was right for the time. All I can say is you had to be there.
It beats Brosnan's turn at surfing.
this nurd probably wasnt born yet , he was born in an age when real talent in the mainstream was already history
Exactly
Indeed, younger audiences often complain about things they find culturally weird, but Bond was always on the pulse regarding current trends. People loved that, just as they loved campy stuff in Moonraker or even Bond doing Tarzan in Octopussy. The mentality of the people changed. There was a wonderful innocence and simplicity back then. People were willing to forgive excess and just roll with it and laugh at it.
@@dancingqueen2131 Actually you’re right he was not alive when this movie came out… However he has a love and knowledge for the fandom that I give props to… I just always defend this particular gag and hopes that he will read it… Lol @CalvinDyson
a view to a kill is just so bizarre. old moore, grace jones, the tonal shifts, and of course, the laughably obvious continuity errors. i love it.
I used to thoroughly enjoy that one
@Julian Borges my thoughts exactly, what errors?
You didn't mention that this film is the first movie appearance of Dolph Lundgren.
Dolph Lundgren is in the background at 14:48. He probably got this cameo role because he was bodyguard and boyfriend of Grace Jones.
Travis Kraft It was?
Never realised it was him!
@@scottknode898 Thanks for the information!
A film where the Golden Gate Bridge isn’t destroyed lol
I really like Walken and Jones in this film as well. Not so sure about the blonde Bond girl whose name I forget.
Moore's by far my favourite bond
RIP Roger
Really, it took me along time to like the movies but Roger Moore last movie , moneypenny last movie too and a new generation of James bond movies was next I do not the guns and the shooting
Mine too!😊
@@michaelbingham4111 ua-cam.com/video/14YMRYjlLSs/v-deo.html Amazing autograph , very rare :D
Moore was always my favorite Bond as well. Everyone has their favorite and each one is just as valid but for whatever reason Moore always appealed to me over the others.
Totally with you on Duran Duran......easily the best song in the series. Yes,it´s kick-ass 80´s but infused with John Barry and totally Bond.
I'm sure many people like the tune, but it is surely not "Bond". Bond theme music is sung by a female vocalist, high and loud. This is a bit gayish for Bond..
Live and let Die is also a great song
Went #1 so it did something right
I think it's a great song but not the best. Blondie had a good theme tune which was unused.
It was clear for me as kid that hook was poisoned
Yep, same. It’s odd how the author of these videos so often misses the obvious.
I'm not keen on Dalton as Bond, although I enjoy his roles elsewhere. I think this does redeem Moore's Bond a bit.
dalton going against sean bean in goldeneye would be cinematic gold to me
The highlight of the film, for me, was Alison Doody as Jenny Flex. Sure, she had very little to do, but she did look great in that riding outfit.
@@alucard624 Not Roberts fault. The writing makes her an idiot.
She was the villainess in Indiana Jones last crusade
Have Doodys autograph , she no longer signs thru mail & seldom seen on the street
@@alucard624 Give Goodnight some credit. She wasn't nearly as dumb as the other two.
That GTAIII reference when Bond gets in the car was perfect! Biggest laugh I've had in a while! :)
Bond Does Not Kill Any Of The Goons That Attack Stacy, The Shotgun Fires Rocksalt ! ..
Live and let die was by far Moore best JB movie in my book the rest where to comical
To be fair, the hook that killed the guy could have been poisoned like the shoe knife in From Russia with love.
Great review tho.
V
Blimps drop out room ok but good points you make
Stacy is kind of crap, but I do like Zorin and Mayday.
Good Lord these reviews are glorious!

@@DutchBondFan I always love rereading them when I'm in I bad mood, they always cheer me up!
Hilarious review..such a ridiculous Bond film..poor Roger Moore
I
It's funny in the bedroom with mayday bond has a look like he's thinking oh the the things I do for England.
He wasnt joking this time
There was also a giant sex toy under the sheet with them lol
Let's not forget that THE ONLY Bond Theme that actually TOPPED the charts was in fact:
A View To A Kill by Duran Duran...
I always thought it was "a view to kill", only just realise there is an extra "'a" in there lol!!
I think it should have been called A View To Kill
And it was originally From A View To A Kill.
Interesting fact Grace Jones was my foster mum's sister but they didn't got along and got some juicy info why. I love your review..Made me LOL
Please do tell...
Let's hear some of that juicy gossip about Grace Jones!
Go on!!!???
Very difficult woman to get on with, but Mayday is a great character.
That’s interesting, as I believe she only has a brother!
"Mayday will provide you with a drink."
"So does anyone else want to drop out?"
The poetic justice of Zorin falling to his death over water mixed well with the businessman being ejected from the blimp and falling to his death over the water.
Moore was a bit too old, but I think he pulled it off well and ended on a high note.
Well done review, as there was lots of ground to cover in this one.
Glad you enjoyed! You may be pleased to see that Recapping 15 is up too! ;)
alpha centauri When Stacy screams "James, don't leave me!", I always yell at the TV screen " Leave her, James! No one will care!"
Live and Let die was better
About equal
Wait... was that Ivan Drago with Gogol?
Ok, that little GTA scene cracked me up. Great review once again DBF!
Glad you enjoyed! It's a small nod back to my channel's past too ;)
The scene with Renault 11 is one of my all time favourite. It does not have to be real, but still! LOVE IT, not as the whole film.
I wait 2 months for a new bond review, ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT :D
A view to a kill is one of my all time favourite Bond "pop" themes. Shame it's attached to such a weak movie and it's sad to see Moore leave with a very disappointing film. It's a lot of fun and the villains are wonderfully crazy but it's definitely flawed. Can't wait to see you take on the Dalton movies, they are my favourites!
Very 80s but I was a teenager then so I love this film and Rog gets away with it just and I love San Fransisco so a bonus there too
This is the third review ive watched tonight, im having a marathon of bond reviews this is really addictive stuff nice one Dutchbondfan👍
Another entertaining and informative review . I liked the comparison of Tiffany Case and Stacy Sutton. It’s like they were needed to be damsels in distress after being introduced as no nonsense ,strong willed women.
Tiffany Case is much better. Stacy is the main letdown in this film.
@10:10

17:18 The youngest women Bond hooks up with are both in FYEO! Bouquet has an age difference of almost 30 years with Moore and Lynn Holly Johnson is a year younger than Bouquet. From the age difference, Lynn Holly Johnson is the youngest girl that ever hooked up with Bond. And the girl at 4:42 is only 2 days younger than Bouquet as well ;)
Bond never hooked up with Bibi Dahl. He kept rejecting her advances. 😩
Anya Amasova was supposed to return but Barbara Bach declined to reprise her role
Why did she decline? I would very much like to know, please.
Good lord finally! It felt kinda off watching the other Bond movies without complementing them with your reviews.
Haha thanks! It's always good to see so much Bond fans are in high anticipation for these reviews! Hope you enjoy this one!
Hi DutchBondFan. Yes, it's possible to use a car tire as an air supply underwater. Very likely, Bond's cleverest method of escape from a villain murder attempt.
You're a real bond fan. Anyone who loves bond would never dismiss this film.. why? Because its actually good.
May Day is awesome and Walken rocked it as Zorin. As you said, unsettling yet so different and it's all explained. If you're gonna go fully absurd with your villains, you gotta commit to it, and to 'AVTAK's credit, it does.
fantastic review, as always.
Another great review dude! Can't wait for The Living Daylights! I hold a special place in my heart for TLD because it was the first Bond Film I ever saw! I sure hope that review is as good the others!
BM \ James Bond Reviewer I'll do my best as always! And I am defenitely aiming to give every episode that distinct "Recapping feel"!
DutchBondFan I have absolutely no doubt about that!
this movie is weird and nutty and I absolutely love it! even tho it's far from being one of the best it's undoubtedly my favorite Roger Moore bond and the score is amazing!
Zorin and Mayday are a bit nutty but it makes it interesting.
I completely agree that the View To A Kill theme is among the best in the series. It's tied with Goldeneye for my personal favorite.
Goldeneye is just Tina Turner trying to be Shirley Bassey.
@@anonb4632 Goldeneye was written by U2.
OL J R :)
Wine with Stacey is really one of my favourite tracks ever in the Bondseries. This film has a great soundtrack.
-The best Bond theme song
-The most beautiful Bond girl
-Roger Moore still looks good for his age
"Roger Moore still looks good for his age" but not for a believable charmer of young chicks.

Sven Dovianus I hate Tomorrow never dies *the song* and also this movie, Casino Royale is the best movie, with the best villian, Car, bond girl, M and the best pre title seq.
Sven Dovianus I just don’t like the song you know, i mean: You Know My Name is my favourite song of all time
I don’t think that Sir Roger Moore was old, the problem was that they intended to make a “young Bond movie”. If they incorporated a more mature bond with and older Bon Girl would be easier to watch this last Moore Movie. AVTAK is a good popcorn flick but if they gave us a decaying Bond just like Skyfall the movie would be fairly better.
Good review. Glad you finally had the time. Thanks.
RIP Tanya Roberts
This one is my favorite, I think because its the first one I saw as a kid, so its quite a memorable one for me. Plus the credit sequence with the Duran Duran song still holds up and is VERY 80s in a wonderful way
Yes. He stayed one movie too long. This is a fun, weird artifact of the times though.
Kind of. I would happily swap this with one or two of Moore's earlier, more campy outings.
I've always picked up for AVTAK. Its actually a very good film.
That part about the glasses allowing Bond to see through windows! I haven’t laughed that hard in a while!
Nobody does better reviews than DBF! I'm gonna watch this soon! Is your new place good?

DutchBondFan I hope it will go well bro!
Michael Lively Daniel's last name is Craig.
I heard Moore had an issue with skin cancer which is the reason for the mole removal and face work.
Can't wait to see you review the Dalton era! Personally he's my favourite Bond.
Looking forward to it as well! It's great to have covered the whole Moore era now, and got them all up and running! :)
mrbeatle890 Mine too (with Daniel Craig a close second).
Got to love the hi-tech wizardry of the glasses that help him see through windows a little better! 👏 👏
That's great man! You guys keep me going, keep up the support and thanks a lot for watching!
Other similarities with "Goldfinger":
1. The main villain is cheating at a sport for financial gain.
2. The main villain falls to his death from a great height.
Villains falling a long way down is more of a series staple.
Plus the main female with the villain turns against the villain and helps 007 (Pussy Galore in "Goldfinger" and May Day in "A View To A Kill"). The only difference is being one becomes the movie's main Bond Girl while the other becomes a femme fatale.
My name is Old. Really Old...
:')
At this time, Roger Moore himself thought he was a bit old. At least, compared to the Bond girls.
Splendid, I'm looking forward to what your opinions are on the Dalton and Brosnan movies soon.
Also, nice GTA reference during the chase scene, I feel like you should've used the Vice City HUD though.
This is my favorite 007 film. Grace Jones made all the difference.
11:00 "The most useless gadget that apparently makes Bond see through windows a little better."
There're simply adjustable polarizing lenses, just like a polarizing filter for a camera lens.
4:45 dude you are not alone, this is also one of my favorite bond themes alongside Goldeneye and Skyfall
Update: add The Living Daylights to the list
Christopher Walken was delightfully looney in this movie.
@@mariakelly4179 may day is hot she is nice for French kisses too am I right??????
I agree the Eiffel Tower and river scene with Jones is amazing
Amazing music by Barry
Strange I used to think this was Moore's weakest bond film but over the years it's become one of my favourite! Oh and the theme tune rocks!
Something that only occurred to me this weekend while binging on your recaps. This would have been infinitely better as Dalton's first film.
Mayday! I know that lady! She was Zula in Conan the Destroyer with Arnold Schwarzenegger right before she did this Bond movie!
Who owns the Eiffel tower in this movie since drax is dead?
Xylophone T Good question! Anyone know?
Xylophone T i do.
Much love from Nova Scotia! Awesome work dude!
Even so, he would be murdering his best customers.
i loved this bond film. going to the odeon in manchester when i was a kid to see it, loved it
8:42 Well in a book I have it said that the hook was laced with poison.
Well done.
Thanks a lot bro!
@@DutchBondFan Thank you! I love your reviews
I honestly do not understand why people dislike this film and Octopussy so much... They're both great!
Honestly The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, Octopussy and A View To A Kill are my favourite Roger Moore Bond films..
Loved this movie. The soundtrack is the icing on the cake!
Loved the GTA reference! That would make a great level!
this was my first bond film i saw at age 11 back in 1985 so i have soft soft for film even though it's not really a good bond film.
I really enjoy your reviews of the Bond movies. Well done and I now have a new appreciation of the films-thanks to your work. Thank you.
Thanks a lot Dave! Comments like these make all the hard work worth while! Each episode takes a good 30 hours to produce, so seeing the appreciation from fans really makes my day!
