HONDA ENGINES ARE WEAK / BEFORE BUYING A NEW CIVIC OR INTEGRA WATCH THIS / INTEGRA L15CA MOTOR BLOWN

- Wasup guys its PK,
Today we head over to VCD and review the new integra as we discuss on the new integra motor. Sadly just like the 10thgen civics fc1, fc3, fk7 the new integra and new 11thgen civic fe1 are having the same issues with motor blowing up. A common probelm with the new integra, 10th and 11th gen civic is they are destroying rods or head gasket issues. Ososick who owns a 2022 Civic si also blew his motor as Dai Y. was doing an outlap onto buttonwillow track.
Here is a lesson learn that installing more power to your motor will just having it end up blowing up. This motor had a tune and flex fuel, just street miles not hard track day or canyon runs just some pulls here and there as he is a more mature driver not a 18 year kid red lining all day. Sorry to see block destroyed. Take this as a lesson before you buy a new civic or integra and planning to put more power into it. In the last 7 years we have seen some stock motor have these issues but it isnt as common as a modified engine.

I’m “blaming” BAD tuning… 100%
Bad tuning with the wrong parts, wrong mods more like.
Complete Nonsense!! L15 is a PROVEN Piss Poor / garbage Engine design..
NOT worth owning one under Any uses !
Don't believe ?? LOOK at a disassembled one. It's simply a Joke!
Horrible Quality EVERYTHING in it.
It’s overagessive tuning. You need to keep the torque down on these engines. People really do not understand the stress loads created by making max torque at 2500-3000 rpm.
Yeah agree, nobody really does high tq in low rpm’s. If you do, than for sure playing with a bigger fire.
Do you have any tips for Hondata? I also have the new Teggy 😊
yea throw it in the trash and get a Ktuner.@@sergeantlate1062
I must have the strongest L15 in the world lol. 2 track days, 5x tail of the dragon, 14k miles in 8 months, 0 issues.
Good shit man!!! We’re you running E85?
They’re great if you leave them stock
I’m stock 104k miles no issues I pump 93 tho did that since day one of owner the car
2020 FC1... L15B7... FBO... Phaerable 1.5 tune @10,000km .. now at 90,000km in 3 years.. proper maintenance.. early oil changes... 94 octane fuel.. still pulls like the day I tuned it.. no more than 30% throttle under 3000rpm.. never had a single issue.. fucking LOVE this car
Pushing more power over a year and no issues, thank God for Derek at IMW with amazing tuning
I’m glad bro!
What are you guys pushing?
How many miles and whp? And do you have the l15b7 or l15ca im fairly new to the CA and im looking for as much info as I can. My l15b7 lasted 60k miles fbo IMWtune and W1 but seized because it kept eating up all the oil
@@ValkenDnB 255whp and 299tq
@@KingofLosing115 both blocks are the same the sport touring came with L15b7 block but it’s got the new crank and rods
I think people need to look at the L series as the modern D. Economy motors that have potential to be performance beasts BUT needs the proper work done to it to handle high power.
Exactly, need to be built and you can have reliable 300hp. A built K can easily have 400hp reliable though
@@maganamfg What exactly would need to be upgraded to have a reliable fbo 1.5L?
@@chorizojuice search up vcd racing or ososick media on instagram they will give you technical details. In summary would need to build the block to have reliable 350hp. So piston, rods, head gasket, studs at minimum. Even at 250hp at minimum arp head studs bc the head tends to lift. Of course needs fbo on top to support. Above 400hp need port injected and custom billet block to not blow a rod.
i've been pushing the 2860gen2 kit for 3 years come July also tuned by IMW at 345whp/308wtq on E30. 30k miles on the tune and about to roll over 60k total and not a single issue. virgin engine.
I’m glad to hear man! More than 70% of peeps I know haven’t had your luck
As the owner of this particular car, I can say 100%. It wasn’t the tune I went a little above and beyond what I should have for the tune with E 85 and pushing the car at the track and there’s a little 1.5 L Honda engines are designed for economy not for performance, I expected this to happen just not so soon the blame is 100% on me no one else
I respect that. But cars don’t just throw a rod with pushing it. The 1.5 been getting beat on for years now. Unless you were flat out abusing the car and not maintaining it. Low oil, overheating, etc.
@@fred_b_360 they do when you run e85 and tune em. Torque kills it and e85 with early torque is a no go. Ososik did the same thing except they ran a bigger turbo and e85 on the dyno ,then reverted to stock turbo for the track but ,the damage could of already been done. They already tore the motor down but no real reason as to what gave. E85 is the common denominator right now.
@@jrkustomz5538 Its bringing in the torque too soon - e85 allows for alot of boost/timing down low and you can easily snap rods if you get greedy
My R makes 440wtq but we bring it in at 4800 vs 3000 to keep the stock rods happy.
These L15s can live but you have to not bring in the torque too soon which is hard on a tiny turbo that spools instantly.
I also run 5-30
How much e were u running?
@@chorizojuice e30 so 30%
If you do ANYTHING to an l15, you're gambling.
The turbo L15B engines don’t have issues unless you start pushing over 400whp. This much power is not “ideal” for a bone stock K-series let alone a small 1.5 turbo engine which has loads of torque. I know people with ethanol tuned Civic 10th gens making 300+whp with zero issues.
I know many being reliable, but I know just as many blowing them up (ppl that push cars often) sadly.
Great stock motor great economy and that’s all. Don’t piss into the wind and expect not to get wet .
L15 is a econo engine that comes already maxed out.. The internals are tiny and weak on this engine.. people are blowing head gaskets on stock cars.. This engine has zero headroom to be modified.. If you want to mod a car do it with a different platform. Have you seen the tiny rods and rod bolts on this engine are NOT ment to be pushed. I actually think this engine it pushed to far stock. What was Honda thinking. Many performance shops do even want to work on this engine knowing the fact very high chance of failure. I have a friend that works at Honda that did more head gaskets on this car than all other models put together.
Same at our shop
might as well put an accord eccord 2.0 in there probably just a little bit more expensive but in the long run its so much better
True, and more reliable
@@maganamfg Good thing they're coming out with an integra type S with the type R engine.
I must have a unicorn then cuz my 2019 Si has 92,000 miles and I’ve been tuned since 17k on Phearable and I’m still on stock clutch and I push the car hard everyday. Zero issues.
I’m proud for you!! You do have a unicorn
I think it’s because you have the L15B7 which can handle a lot more than the L15CA which is in the current gen civic si.
@@drewpeacock3798 that's a good point I have heard the rods are weaker on the new ones
@@brokentradgedy so far I heard the rods are the main issue on these new civics. I’m sure there is potential in upgrading the rods and pistons. Maybe forged pistons would be better.
Yeah, we now offer pistons if something you looking into, how’s the motor?
I got a 2022 Honda civic sport and the engine blew the other day cruising on highway and rod knock started and was smoking crazy all oil came out for the engine
What mods do you have?
It's like the old days. B series for high performance, and D series for sporty regular cars. K series for premium, lightly beefed up L series for everything else.
Agree, 2.0T fk8 motor is great just like older k series
All I see here are bad choices. I don't get the negative feedback against this engine.
People pushing V8 torque numbers on a stock 1.5 engine with an opendeck design.
It will snap sooner or later. There are ways to make power and keeping the torque numbers at a safe level. Use them.
Get a better turbo that can phase the power band more to the right and keep the torque numbers at 300 or lower.
This engine isn't meant to be a torque power house anyway.
Agreed man, it’s a great design for efficiency, but it’s still a 1.5 motor. People in Socal want to push these to 300hp and get mad it didn’t handle the power in 2018/2019 with the 10thgens. Now having knowledge I hope people take it as a lesson learn 11thgen si are similar powertrains.
@@maganamfgwell, if a 1.6L GR Corolla produces 300 hp then the L15s have some potential. And mind you the GR Corolla is a 3 cylinder with no forged internals. I know the displacement is different by 1 liters but still.
TwoStepPerformance is producing 340+ hp and 300lbft of torque on their 11th gen Si. Stock internals.
All this car needs is better rods and maybe a camshaft to handle more torque and power
Great engine in stock form. Stop overpowering stock internals and then blaming Honda for making weak engines. Either fully build the engine, do a K20 swap, or buy the type R from the beginning. If you wanted 300-400 hp or more, you bought the wrong car. Not Honda's fault at all
agree stock form is where honda made the limit, it doesn’t have much play room like a k20c, d16, b18, b20
You can make these kinds of vids for any engine for any manufacturer when you are pushing power beyond what its designed for.
Valid, but this wouldn’t be an engine I’d push. You can push a fk8 k20 100% the power and internals will be fine. A k20z1 or k24 to 500hp np, even a single cam d series to 300whp, but the 1.5 L15 you can’t even do a 50% gain with throwing a rod.
Had a 10th gen FC1, it was a cool car but the Si feeling wasn’t there. Had a 8th gen FG2 and I enjoyed driving that more than the FC1. Purchased an FG4 and I’m glad I went back to the K series. If you got the money, just put a k in there and you’ll be solid! But truly the L series is a major L, coming from a guy that’s driven several generations of the Civic.
Thanks for sharing!
These engines have tiny internals compared to previous Honda tuner engines. The l15b crank is 2/3rds the size of a D16. Rods are much smaller than K series and the rod bolts are smaller than a 10mm oil pan nut. Total garbage
This engine was defiantly made to be an economical car. Although has plug and play for a turbo would rather have a Kseries myself if going for major power.
@@maganamfg plug and play turbo is only a plus if the engine itself can handle more boost or bolt ons reliably. I would honestly rather have a turbocharged D16 (with forged rods and pistons) over an L15B. At least it has real VTEC.

Glad to hear, fbo? Haven’t had to change of clutch? Tuned?
nearly 30k miles, first gen integra and no issues. Im hoping it stays that way. (completely stock)
Hell yeah!!!! If plan to keep stock should be fine, appreciate the feedback for rest of the community if looking to buy one of these
This engine remind me of the d15b7 from the first gen del sol but the internals in this engine are somehow even smaller
Yeah internals are very small, I think Honda wanted to lean it out so much to make it economical to mfg and design on top of mpg.
Looking to get an 11th gen si. Not looking to mod or do anything but keep it bone stock outside maybe cosmetic stuff. Will it be a reliable smart purchase?
Just like the 10thgen si. Keeping the 11thgen / integra stock will be reliable. I have seen many stock over 100k miles with no issues. Just do typical maintenance as Honda engineers state. Have fun man!!!

Because “mY bOy iS a TuNer yO hE’s MaD gOoD yO!” 🥴 you get what you pay for…. Go with professionals… not “the homie”
Everyone I know has been going with Hondata base tunes or professional local tuners. But yes tell those cheap guys going with the “wanna be tuner” lol
Sloppy poor modding, bad rookie tuning and general poor care by youtubers clamoring to get their "first" is what did these engines in. My integra runs perfectly because i respect the vehicle.
this integra owner and motor was owned by an older driver not street racing, not seeking to be “the first” or the fastest adult on the streets. The tuner could be the issue but the tuner is a well known tuner that typically is conservative not seeking the “highest” number.
It could have been a bad apple engine , could have been tuner, maybe the driver himself but sucks to see a motor with low mileage fail. There is enough data here in socal that validates conclusion about these motors after a tune.
I strongly believe honda did great at stock power numbers and made it reliable.
36 k mile warranty from Honda. Why would you pay 4k to fix a brand new car.
Bc once you add bolts ons or tunes that warranty goes bye bye
Honda has Definitely.. Lost it's Way.. period !
What was the tune in order for it to blow? I have a 24 ST civic and I do plan on tunning it to si power sometime.
It was a base Hondata tune
Base Hondata tune but running flex fuel? Also I believe DRobb mentioned Ktuner being the preferred platform for 10th/11th gen non Type Rs
nontypeR you can go either Ktuner / Hondata offering similar value except for the following.
People lean to Ktuner for the fact that it comes with the monitor display.
Both are easy to tune
Reason I recommend Hondata is for those seeking to go big turbo as more tuner know how to use it.
@@maganamfg what do you recommend I do for an 11th gen ST civic? I plan on tuning that car to at least 200 hp and torque. What do you recommend I do to get it that high without damage?
with either hardwares you will be 200+whp with just a base tune.
So Honda engines are weak because people want to double the wheel horsepower on a stock 1.5 liter engine? The L15B7 engine is a very good engine but is not designed for big horsepower numbers from the factory. You want to go fast without blowing up buy something faster from the beginning. Mind you Ossosik have an 800WHP L15B7 so you can have some serious horsepower numbers you just have to spend the money.
Single cam, bseries, and kseries have shown to be strong handling 2x the power than stock. Intent of video not the bash ppl on the L15 but show awareness they cannot handle as much as older Hondas. Honda did amazing if keep it near stock power.
@@maganamfg No K or B series is able to support 30psi of boost in their stock form.🤷♂
Should I use 5W-30 on a bone stock 2022 1.5 ? Or would I be ok using 0W-20 ?
Being stock, I’d recommend the 0w-20 as Honda engineers state. The thicker oil is more relative for the extra power.
Yeah, you don't want to run 5W-30 unless you have a bigger turbo with stronger rods and pistons.
BS, kid doesn't look like the guy using cruise control at 65mph.
The owner of car is older guy, I’d say in his 40s. He was not in this video.
One of the biggest isues with the 1.5 platform is the fact that they recommend 0w-20 oil.
I was told to run nothing but 5w-30 when i did my swap and change oil every 3k miles to maintain the oil fresh.
I blew the motor on my FK7 just crusing to work…. I was running 0w-20 and was about to change the oil when the rod shot through the block.
Yes agree!! I think we should inform stop using OW-20 in 1.5T
@@maganamfg What weight do u recommend?
@@chorizojuice I’m not an engine expert / engineer. Running more power and E85 I’m running 5w-30
@@chorizojuice the reason 0w-20 was developed was to offer higher mpg in Honda engines. Constraining the engine at higher temps thicker oil is needed.
@@maganamfg thanks for the quick replies. I wanted to go fbo and ethanol but ima stay away from E entirely cuz it seems to be involved in alot of these blown motors
Mfs run E on a stock motor with 0-20 and expect it to not blow like confetti

@@maganamfgyeaa I’m talking bout 10/11 Gen civic drivers in general
@@meek146 oh yeah definitely agree!
Just look at the internals of the L15, everything is pencil thin and weakly built compared to every other honda engine.
L-series is the worst engine honda has ever made, the base 2.0 k20c2 can probably handle more boost than a l15.
Agreed, idk much of the base k20 but Lseries are sadly weak :/
What if you just ride with a base tune?
I think will be fine, consider will need a clutch with any tune.
Over Boost Kicked In Yo
It definitely did
These engines are not strong enough to be altered.
Stock internals are not designed for power.
U blaming Honda but he was tuned on e30 running water for oil lol😂
I love Honda, we all do, but we also know they have failed the tuner scene (considering longevity)
L15 are not build for more power.
It becomes a maintenance thing more than a mclaren
How much was oso pushing on his 11th gen?
I’m really not sure, he was fbo with turbo though.
@@maganamfg That is sad only fbo and it would blow already. I am glad to keep my 10th gen. Will pass on all 11th gens.
He pushed like 320whp I believe, which was insane
"Honda engines are weak" . 🤡🤡🤡
L15 probably the weakest of the group. :/
A 4 banger Kseries can do 500 stock block. 🙃
Even D Series able to do 400hp. Than again Dseries has a lot more aftermarket support.
I just bought myself a new 2023 Civic Si and I am planning to do the full 27Won turbo back exhaust with the PRL HVI and a phearable tune. Not gonna lie I am getting a little worried now with all this. From seeing this video and watching the other one with the civic si that blown on the track, it seems like the e85 is what is common culprit. I wont be running that just gonna use 93oct and that's it with all those bolt ons and the tune. Should I still be concerned or am I right about it being more of an e85 thing with this engine and I should be fine just running 93oct? Thanks in advance.
Hey, I can’t state it’s due to E85 because a gasoline shouldn’t be throwing any rods. I think it’s more due to weak internals and higher power (stronger explosion)
From wat ive read it seems like its the torque that e85 produces is too much too soon. I think if u only go wot past 3.5k rpm, 5w-30 oil every -5000ml, you’ll be fine on the phearable tune.
Have you seen the size of the rods, rod bolts and head studs on L15 engine is tiny. This platform is bad to do any mods on. If you mod an engine that I think is pushed beyond max stock best of luck but the amount of blown engine s on this platform is mind boggling. This is the wrong platform for enthusiasts. Essentially a standard econo Honda fit engine with zero upgrades internally with now a turbo that pushes the car to far even stock. No thanks
👎
I think Honda should have a recall on the engine
At stock power it has no issues
Is there aftermarket Rods for 1.5 engine?
yes rv6 has released some
I want the integra a spec manual with tech and i do not plan on modding. Just want the car. My main concern is the 1.5t and i dont want a car that just looks nice. I dont need crazy speed. I just wanna enjoy myself. But the 1.5t is just a huge turn off and my accord has one and so far its fine but i also dont try to stress it or have too much fun even tho i want to. Im acared of getting the integra cause i know id like to drive it in a more sprited way
If you plan to keep it stock, don’t stress about anything, if you do end up getting a tune, plan on getting a clutch right after. They are good cars, they aren’t boxer engines
U can drive it harder. Its alot lighter than the accord and requires better fuel. Do oil changes at 5k miles, let the car warm up before getting on boost, dont floor it at low rpm. Itll last u a very long time.
Exactly, keep up to date with maintenance and should be good
