LO ME too! (But more like 45 yrs ago) Been married for 33yrs. Might coulda picked up a couple more women before I took the plunge with that tune in my stable!
How true! But that is the same with 300 songs I could not play then. I wish all these tabs and tutorials were available then. I could have been a whole lot better!!
Same here, man.I'm sixty three and I never knew half of the stuff on youtube I learned the Keith Richards open g tuning and Ran with it if only I had knew
carry on is probably my favorite csny song. there is a lot of depth to that song, you broke it down perfectly. now i have a better understanding of why the song appeals to me and is so great. fantastic breakdown of a great song!
I’m glad I found your channel. Not only do you break down a song to a understandable level but you give extras like song, group and individual artist’s history. Plus, the artist’s line up is essential in rock guitar. Thank you so much for your time and effort. I would like to request a Lynyrd Skynyrd break down. Maybe Sweet Home Alabama. Hey dig rock ‘n roll, rock on.
You left out the absolutely BEST phrase found at 3:47-3:57 on the original recording. Done with distorted lead (probably Telecaster). Watched the Foxes and Fossils version of this song (lovely BTW) and was waiting for it but.....
I just recently heard the Springfield song "Questions" after having never heard it...yet I knew almost all of the lyrics. Took me a minute to figure out where I'd heard those verses... Great lesson!
Halfway through the sessions for Deja vu, GN pointed out that they didn't have a SBJE to open the record - no Side One, Track One. Stills went home, wrote this and demo'ed it for them the next day. As before, with the 'Couch' album, he played most of it himself. Powerhouse.
Waited over 50 years for this. Thank you. Please show us more on how Stills plays his solos on other songs. My all time favorite song is The Treasure from Manassas.
For me that song's iconic. Living my life I've lost a leg: "Rejoice, rejoice! We have no choice, but to carry on." Another one's 'A whiter shade of pale', from Procol Harum. Check out their perormance in Denmark, in 2006! Will give you goosebumps. 'Willin', by Little Feet should be mentioned. Skynyrds 'Ballad of Curtis Low' (a human being like Adam, who never existed). Mentioning balads: 'P.F. Sloan', by Unicorn is worthwhile, 'John Barleycorn' by Little Feet, a folksong that goes back to the middle ages. And then there are so many more, like Gary, Chat Baker, Jobim, Blues Brothers, Soggy Bottom Boys, and Muddy Waters, Hooker, Woolf and Hopkins, Sinatra, Cash, McClean, Birds, even Eagles, Animals and Hollies, Beatles, and Scorpions, Bread and Stones and Zappa, Hendrix and his motherf###ing Mothers of Invention, Steely Dan as well as Astrud, Ella, Holliday and Whinehouse, Vaughn and Bessy, Steelers wheel, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Bowie. I would need rolls of paper to pay some credit to them all! Keep dreaming, 'cause it may safe our world and species, and try to stay safe yourself. Music will always be a blessing to our souls, what and where ever that may be... Rejoice... we have no choice... Just carry on. Find a coast of freedom, and love the ones you're with. ❤
What a great song and you’re playing it most excellently!!!!Déjà Vu is my absolute favorite album by CSNY and Carry On was such an awesome album opener. 4+20 is a very favorite song I have sung and played for many moons now, Almost Cut My Hair - the title says it all!!!! I really enjoyed this segment you made. Thanks!!!! We could start a pretty cool band. I write originals like those good ole days. Check out Critical Thinking The Band - Daring To Be Human here on UA-cam. It’s video is dedicated to our Native American brothers and sisters!!!
This is such an awesome song!! I gotta learn it, finally¡! Questions was done by Stephen with Buffalo Springfield, and he put it on this tune , excellent move.
I remember when a friend who worked with Manassas showed me the 'Stills' chord. Apparently, XXXXXXX was involved, lol. Stills, he said, was a straight genius who was NEVER straight. I thought it was the craziest chord ever, and with a slight alteration is way fun with a bottleneck. Ok loved your video TFC, so I'ma climb aboard.
Love the one you’re with tuning: CGCGGC. Sweet Judy blue eyes tuning: EEEEBE. Four and 20 tuning: EEEEBE like sweet Judy blue eyes. Déjà vu tuning: EBDGAD. Let me know what you think of these tunings. You’re welcome!
Real good stuff. '4 way street' is the album I wish ' Let it be ' was - the guys playin with enthusiasm , revved up and in synch. Let it be had near none of that, oh well. of course C.S.N. Y. had way more problems as a band than the guys from Liverpool , with somewhat similar talent.
Great song no doubt you've got all the structure down pat just need about 4 other players to put it all together 😆 i use to do the acoustic 12 string part solo kinda tribute to CSNY then Judy blue eyes weird tuning wasn't used in much eles had a blast back then in mom and pop lil bars coffee shops loved solo venues but did alot of 3-4 peice rock bands you do some stellar teaching bro wish we'da had the web back then 😆 wore out a lot of vinyls lifting the tone arm figuring licks out🙄but that's how ys learnd yer licks😂yes i can read music but ear trained to the max
I know, right? Here it is, and also look up the version on the Echo in the Canyon soundtrack, done by Jacob Dylan and Eric Clapton. ua-cam.com/video/zDjmmCvTH7o/v-deo.html
As with carry-on, I’ll tune my six string to Eb all strings, except the second string, which is B-flat. Then I’ll use a capo on fret one for sweet Judy, blue eyes and 4 & 20. This way, I don’t have to keep changing tunings from E flat to E.
Great lesson. My brothers and I did a really nice acoustic cover complete with the vocal harmonies about 10 years ago. You can find it on my channel if you are interested. Cheers!
Damn shame about how Stills essentially flamed out, apparently drink and drugs. He was much the better of the two when he and Young were in the Buffalo.
I could have really used this information * 50yrs * ago - THANKS !

CSNY at the Greek Theater (Los Angeles) in August of '69, and Joni Mitchell opened -- unforgettable.

Great lesson, just learned the acoustic, I’ll learn the electric tomorrow, Questions on acoustic is magical stuff.
The best breakdown of this song. Funny, E flat ish. Perfect way to describe that tuning. I’m in a CSNY tribute. Loved this breakdown.
I am 56 and heard this song easily over 1000 times. Never knew questions was a Buffalo Springfield song.
Great lesson. Thanks

I used the video to learn the song AND I LOVED YOUR SINGING. The fallesto was wonderful. Please sing more!!! MORE SING!!!!
Outstanding breakdown here. I've played this song since it 1st came out! Of course no special tunings. I did learn something here. Thank You!

Suite Judy blue eyes is in e this is tuned down to an e flat

In addition to all strings, b excepted, down to e I believe everything is also down a half step? So, strictly speaking, e flat.

I know, right? Here it is, and also look up the version on the Echo in the Canyon soundtrack, done by Jacob Dylan and Eric Clapton. ua-cam.com/video/zDjmmCvTH7o/v-deo.html
It’s on the first Buffalo Springfield Album
What time does the Victorville Film Archives open tomorrow?
All strings tuned down to e-flat, except for the B string
As with carry-on, I’ll tune my six string to Eb all strings, except the second string, which is B-flat. Then I’ll use a capo on fret one for sweet Judy, blue eyes and 4 & 20. This way, I don’t have to keep changing tunings from E flat to E.
Love the one you’re with is a total difference tuning like I mentioned CGCCGC
I suppose love the one you’re with could also be played with the E flat, tunings or drop D
I’d love to see you do a video about Woodstock from the same album. Any chance of that?
Yeah, good idea
@@12footchain Neil's herky-jerky rendition is so memorable, it makes that song, IMHO. Love your channel!
Is this the same tuning that is used on 4+20? I would love to see a lesson like this for that song!
yes it is the same tuning! will work on that. very similar right hand picking pattern to Dear Prudence.
Actually, sweet Judy, blue eyes and love the one you’re with are two different tunings, then carry on.
I'm confused is it e flat or e
E flat-ish
I see three membership levels. Which of the three memberships (Clapton, Beck or Page) gives me the tabs and chord charts?
Any of them get you that
Why did you choose a 12th St. guitar to do this? I’ve never seen Stephen Stills do it on the 12th it was always done on the sixth string.
I didn't have a good 6 string at the time, so I just strung 6 strings on my 12 string guitar.
@@12footchain it’s difficult tuning a 12th string in standard tuning, let alone in alternate tuning
what's your amp settings in the clean eletric guitar part?
Go to about 19:25 and I talk about that
Rejoice rejoice. You can sing like Neil Young
Why are you tuned a half step low? You seem to be tuned to Eb open not E open.
So the second half of “Carry On” is Buffalo Springfield déjà vu? 🤪
Haha I see what you did there 😏
Check your more videos love this ! Guy Esentals sweden
So you need 12 string for this song?
No, I just didn't have a 6 string acoustic here, so I just put 6 strings on my 12 string guitar to improvise
