I immediately made it bigger, started adding ribbon windows (long narrow windows to fit between the studs) on the back wall of the living room, a space for a wood burning stove or fireplace, a utility room, and solar panels + batteries. It looks like a great setup. Have always thought a Usonian home would be much nicer if you built three of them together into a U shape to allow for more space & create a courtyard.
It's great to read the comments. I agree with moving the bathroom. It truly needs to be near the master bedroom. Most don't want to walk that far in the middle of the night. Especially when older folks tend to downsize to something like this. Also, I like some closed off rooms. I've got a 1960s house. I can shut the door to the kitchen and invite people to the living room without worrying about the dishes, etc. being visible.
The "plumbing tree" is all together where the kitchen section meets the bathroom. Very short plumbing and drain/sewer runs. Putting the bath on the other end complicates things.
Kerry, I absolutely love these modular homes but I think some of these companies underestimate the importance of the kitchen. Kitchens are literally the heart of every home! No matter if you’re a bachelor, retired, or young professional; everyone gathers around the place where food and drinks are made. Love your channel!
My kitchen is old and outdated and it doesn't bother me. I'm older, single, work from home... my kitchen is just utilitarian. I live in a decent 1BR apartment in the downtown area of a large city. My place isn't made for hanging out and I despise cooking... most of what I eat isn't cooked, so it works out well for me. Kitchen can be small, but in an ideal house I would just like nice finishes and appliances. The size of this one would be perfect for me.
I love them, the possibility of creating a central covered shaded living area, or setting the space for a massive solar array using the 3 sides as the frame support, of as far out as you cared to go.
I noticed the lack of laundry, too. I guess the designers have their clothes dry cleaned. /s The Europeans have their combo washer/dryer under the kitchen counter. Maybe swap out the dish washer for laundry?
I like the U-shape, but would like the courtyard area to be the back of the house, with a normal door for a front door. A sliding door is nice, but I'd prefer that to go into maybe a nice fenced back yard. Love the idea of a steel frame, rather than wood.
You could have a front courtyard, but more shallow by having the same shape in the front (the current rear). That way the front could have some dimension and frame the entrance instead of being a long flat wall which would be aesthetically off putting!
Now this is for me/us. My husband and I would be very comfortable in this place. I prefer more defined spaces and yet it is feels open with all the glass and courtyard. Great storage! Love it. Oh, and your new chair is awesome. It looks good on you, or, rather you on it. Thanks for sharing!
its interesting to have the U shape... I worry about a flat roof they are notorious for leaking so in rainy states it may not be the best choice... I also think I would like a few more windows on the other side of the house so there are not just the inside of the U windows but also more outside wall windows, even just a few more... somehow it feels a bit closed in and outer windows might help with that.. thank you for showing us Kerry
Solar angle roof, back to front (as fr as you wish to go) build up any exposed areas with slab insulation cut to angle off water to a collection point maybe?
A flat roof done properly will not leak. I would not worry about that if I were purchasing. In fact, reinforced it would be a make a great upper balcony, you could launch golf ball at your neighbors🤣
@@patrickmckowen2999 Easy to overclad with exterior insulation & waterproofing at a shallow angle to direct run off & ensure zero pooling, preferaby though solar clad with a suitable 3m tape for joining panels (there are many) which would technically limit all but the worst weather getting under, seal at either apex with a light cladding material allowing air through.
I like the courtyard design, but I'm still not fond of Irish windows, or lack of them. I'd still want a window in the bathroom AND a tub, a window at the kitchen sink, and a sliding glass door in the master bedroom. And it is a total waste of space to put the on demand water heater in one of the kitchen cabinets. Renai makes one for outside, and that is exactly where I'd put the water heater so I could have that extra cabinet space for more kitchen storage. Love the built in closets in both bedrooms. All in all, a cool design, just needs some tweaking to make it more homey for me. Thanks for the tour.
The lack of storage in modern architecture in general disturbs me greatly. Nobody wants to live with their items piled up in the corners. Nobody wants to stare at the vacuum cleaner and brooms all day either. It's like the people that design them, have never had to live in them, nor clean them -- or they think we all own two pairs of pants, one shirt and a single towel -- a solitary cereal bowl and a plate. Where do my out of season clothing and jackets go? There isn't even room for an air fryer in the kitchen in the video.
Prefab with courtyard YUM! Also have been waiting to see more prefabs w/ skylights: less leaky I suspect when factory installed, I bet. Finally, agree with Kerry on hallway with natural light.
I'm def a fan of a U-shape home layout. Separate bedrooms from the noisy kitchen and family room hub or office. Creates angles so sound doesn't travel as well/far. When I go to sleep I need it QUIET and calm. If this model had more sky lights, I'd be buying it for an in-law dwelling or guest house, for sure!
I love this style home; it's my preference. Similar to the Roman peristyle homes or even the Moroccan homes as well. Love it. Only would change I have is to make the left side (where the dinning room is) and push it out further to make a smallish home office. Nice one Kerry! Thank you.
ok feedback you asked for : 1. first...I like today's sponsor! 2. Love the U shape . 3. still not feel ok with flat roof. 4 I totally agree with. Idea of work space at far end near kitchen, away from bedrooms... and find it extremely beneficial if not necessary. 4. LIke the arrangement of all rooms and hallways but want a tub not just a shower stall. 5. Love the big glass windows., closet and shelves and no need for a dresser .6. Want more pantry or food storage and meal prep space but could see how could include that in this design so that might fit in this one too. Thank you for... Another wonderfully well done presentation. My opinion re : thumbs up reminders....you do not have to be subtle...most of the best vids are not...they just say....do it..don't forget to , etc. and that works. Most people want to and do forget . And yours don't need encouragement for us to ..only the reminder ...but then you can be very creative with words so I certainly do not want to discourage that either...as your style of narrating is so original, fun, interesting, and creative. That is as much why watch as is the homes you show us.
Love the U-shaped design. I've never been a fan of open concept and really like the clearly delineated living spaces. This is a beauty! Thanks for the tour.
The U Shape design is something I have often wondered about (now I don't have to!). I like that the exterior is almost completely sheltered, protecting you from the wind. I love the interior design as well - for a smaller house, it is pretty spacious. The only things I think I would add is a washer/dryer stacked in the kitchen and a small island. There is not a lot of counter space for food prep so that would help. Thanks for showing us this one. Is there anyone in Canada building something like this one? Specifically in Ontario or the Atlantic Provinces? I just love this look.
I love the design and I'm all for using steel stud framing instead of wood. The view windows would be perfect for my lot. I would reverse the bedrooms and kitchen minus guestroom and call it sold.
Man … GAME CHANGER .. wow, it’s perfect for me, and with that extra bedroom for when my son visits from college or my daughter comes to visit for a really really undetermined long time.. but a minimalists dream but with more than 200 or 400 square feet.. I love the U shape because mostly I cook outside, I could watch people do cold plunges from my jacuzzi spa … this one does make me happy
Walk-arounds or U-shapes are great. They provide different light during different times of the day. There's more of a coziness and space interaction with this than the "straight" approach. All living spaces need a centerpiece and this one is the patio area. A portable firepit would be welcome here. This home layout could be massaged for each person's needs . One example would be build an island off the wall that's next to the refrigerator. I personally like how much storage space they've incorporated. Plus the outside eve lights are great for security purposes and lighting things up at night on the patio. The skylights are wonderfully placed. The only downer I noticed looking from the outside is the lack of a window on the left side. I know the right side has a built-in storage space which eliminates a window there. I personally love this direction.
Going off the floor plan, I’d make the left side the same length as the right. Moving the living room into the left wing with the kitchen/dining, creating one open space. Keep the bathroom where it is. Continue the hallway through the living area and use that space as the second bedroom. Create a master bedroom out of the current second bedroom and the right side of the house is its own master wing. You could create a closet to house a stackable washer and dryer right before the master bath.
Greetings Kerry from an amazing colorful Vermont!! Hope your Autumn is equally as beautiful, and you are doing well. Love this versatile steel frame prefab home. The possibilities are endless. Thank you for rocking another video! Take good care and all the best to you, your family and to all who gather here and beyond.
Excellent content as usual. I would also like to know more about foundations, heating / cooling and induction cooking. Thanks for another interesting video.
Love, love, love U-shaped homes. The built-in closet is the next best thing to a walk-in. A few more windows on the exterior would be ideal. And Article makes some really wonderful furniture 😊 so glad they sponsored you!
I actually like that each bedroom has external access aswell, with at least one glass door. I'd place this will little patios or courtyards outside each one with a little wind/rain protection. Make a small place feel much, much larger.
I like this design. The only things I would add are sun shade sails for the middle and an iron 10:46 gate with a remote lock/unlock to secure the open middle area.
All in all a very attractive and functional home! A bit skimpy on the bathroom! Im sure they could make whatever modifications the client might require! I like the small secondary living area in the dining space! I'm not really a formal dining room person at this stage of my life!
I like the courtyard, would make a nice backyard setting, put a fence back there and have some privacy to sit out and enjoy the sun. I probably would use a much smaller dining table in the kitchen area, and instead of that low storage chest next to the refrig, I would have a full sized cupboard/closet there to store dishes/supplies. Only thing I would want is for the non-court side to be the street facing side and have an entry way on that side.
It’s a great start and I also love the exterior. It needs more windows on those large, blank, exterior walls. Even a transom window would make a great improvement. It would make the house feel much larger.
I like just about everything about this layout (yes, especially the central courtyard!), except that for that size house you need at least another half bath, preferably another full one. Having a guest bedroom between the master bedroom and the bath makes certain, uh, logistics awkward when you have guests.
I think what you've mentioned are good ideas! To get all of that it it begins to step away the aspect of affordability. You could have the same concept though with increased square footage in a higher price bracket.
Nice model. Seems comfortable. I think I would move the bathroom closer to the bedroom area. Lots of windows… requires lots of window treatments. Thanks for the tour!
They need to.flip the bath and living space. Put the bath beside the bedrooms. And wheres space for washer/dryer? Also put a bar in the kitchen. Get rid of that bench. A big bar for 6 stools instead of a table then you could add a small sofa or 2 chairs. With tv for morning programs. i think its beautiful. And i personally like the tall windows. Are they doors?
Hi, Kerry! Thanks for the great tour. Overall, I love this home design. I want more countertop space in the kitchen and a fireplace in the living room; other than that it is nearly perfect. The courtyard area in the front is a nice touch. Making that an enclosed atrium would be even better. I didn't see a laundry area though, so that is something else I would want to add.
I saw a tiny home yesterday that has the exact same shape but has a front porch instead of a courtyard and the kitchen is actually in the hallway where the bathroom is in this home. Basically it's a long galley kitchen and it was so great in that space. It freed up to 2 sides for a larger living room and larger bedrooms. In this home that same hallway area seems wasted considering it's looking out onto the courtyard.
They need to move the bathroom to where the "living room" is and push the kitchen toward the moved bathroom. That way, where the dining table area will be the Family Room area. Think open plan!
Good one. Design is smart. Living R could have a sofa bed; use the back corner BR for office/ library/sewing/art. Small island in kitchen would add counter space for all us bread-makers.
I Love the U Designs! The Only Qualms I have with any Building Designs are the Flat Roofs bc of Roof Structural Longevity?!? BTW Great Channel, Keep up the Great Work & Thank You!
No, I've been on board with Kerry for quite some time now 😊 He is the best at bringing us the newest and best ideas in this genre. So glad you're here too ❤ The more the merrier 😊
I love this house! I wouldn't have the massive DR table, but probably put my home office there. And not so much white... but everything else would be way more than I need, but wouldn't feel too massive for me.
Very nice, I would change it up in few areas. Extend the kitchen into the dining area, little seat or whatever that is seems useless, I need more cabinets and a bigger sink, I like to cook! Not much can be done about the narrow living room, but with the right furniture it could work. Lastly, I’ve got to have a tub, hopefully that’s an option. thanks Kerry!
With copytrading, you could be sipping coffee on a balcony overlooking a bustling city skyline or lounging on a pristine beach, all while your investments work for you. Can't share much here, I take guidance from ‘Sophia E Haney’ a renowned figure in her industry with over two decades of work experience. I'd suggest you research her further on the web.
Ohhh ok, so the bathroom's by the kitchen so all the plumbing is in one module, right? The design makes sense in that regard. And another vote for flipping the layout, having the courtyard in the back of the home. Great video, thanks for the tour 😅❤
Love the U shaped design so definitely a plus for me. HOWEVER, I would definitely need extra counter-top space for meal prep as there is virtually none. Wrap the counter top around the corner, move the fridge over and do away with the crazy angle it is at. You don't need what looks like a bench next to pantry as you have dining chairs if you want to sit. Yes it would cost a bit more but I can't imagine having to cook in such a confined area when several options would open up and provide more space. Windows: Can live without a window in bathroom but would like to have a window in kitchen. With the above mentioned modification, you could place a window, increase counter space and still have ample storage.
I like the idea of a u-shaped home or 2 facing each other with space in between. The kitchen could be so much more substantial. And the window placements and shapes could be better: higher in the bedroom and living room. One window over the sink in the kitchen and a skylight in the bathroom. The bedroom windows are way too big and low for privacy and energy conservation imho. The general flow of rooms is good and the exterior aesthetic is pleasing. Thanks for showing us what's new, Kerry.
A Skillion Roof design with the middle section being level with this home structure would be really nice too. And maybe some slight form of a gazebo structure for the wide open front court yard.
I like the U shape design, though I wish it were even in length on both sides. The kitchen is the thing I'm not a huge fan of layout wise. It feels squished into that corner when it could have fit horizontally across thet long wall with room for a bar or island, and a small dining table if you need it.
I like the U shape for the courtyard; nice, but I'm a big fan of big open combined space when it comes to the kitchen/dining living room; that living room is more the size of a small den; if you're entertaining at all it's very limited space
I know the bathroom is next to the kitchen to save on plumbing, but it would make more sense to me to swap the living and bathroom around so the bathroom is by the bedrooms and the living is adjacent to the kitchen and dining area. Gives the option to open up the living too to make it open plan if the modules would allow for that. Other than that I love a u shaped design.
I like the idea of a pitched canvas awning that fully encompasses the courtyard for shade and all-weather protection. It makes the courtyard more user friendly!
I like the U-shape floor plan but this home needs some changes. Not only does it need a coat closet, it also needs a kitchen pantry.....the one that's there isn't nearly large enough for pots, pans and dry goods. The bathroom should be close to the bedrooms, not the kitchen. And there should be an option for a garage joining the exterior wall of the dining area.
Had thought of a u shape years ago Would like bedrooms opposite ends and furnish it with more storage for cleaning supplies, suitcases but we'll done ❤ thank you differently
The U shape is wonderful. If I were to build a ranch I would build a U shape allowing for a center courtyard. Facing west, it would be great and allowing for landscaping, it would be so pretty. Does the roof slant and empty into the courtyard? It appears to by the photos, I could be wrong.

A great idea would be to get 3 more pods and connect them in a square, creating a huge interior atrium.

I love this layout and design.
Love the U-shape!
It’s a great start and I also love the exterior. It needs more windows on those large, blank, exterior walls. Even a transom window would make a great improvement. It would make the house feel much larger.
That would be a nice addition, thanks 🙌🏼
Kerry great video. I love the layout
Need a bath in between the bedrooms. And a laundry room to make a functional house. I do love the U shape
When showing the closet in the master bedroom, I was hoping to see laundry in the middle.
Thos is the type of house you have an all in one washer/dryer in the kitchen or bathroom
I do like the outdoor courtyard area. I wonder if they also include a roof over that area.

Great tour, Kerry ! 👍
Thanks Dale!
Oh wow, an enclosed atrium would be cool
Thanks for the great tour ❤ love the u shape. I could definitely see myself in a home like that, very interesting concept 😊
I’m glad you liked it!
The center living room would face the stunning view across the courtyard... Supersweet. Do like.
Glad you like it 🙌🏼
I saw a tiny home yesterday that has the exact same shape but has a front porch instead of a courtyard and the kitchen is actually in the hallway where the bathroom is in this home. Basically it's a long galley kitchen and it was so great in that space. It freed up to 2 sides for a larger living room and larger bedrooms. In this home that same hallway area seems wasted considering it's looking out onto the courtyard.
I seriously like this one......❤
The out side could have a pool. I would have another one to close it in to a box. I like that.
I really like this layout and design style. 👍🏻
I’m glad you like it!
Love the U shape! I think I'd use the middle section as the main entrance and add a peaked cover to provide a little protection from the elements.
Good idea!
It's very unique. It looks like it has a lot of space.
How much is it?
I Love the U Designs!

I hit it twice!

Noo, I missed that. That must have been when I was entranced by that... lovely.... little .... chair.
@@blackopal3138There was a chair? Darn it! I missed that. Now I’ll have to watch it again. I’m quite fond of chairs.
@@DebiRose062 lol, his new chair that he pointed out he just bought, unfortu...... well, it's at the beginning. :p
Nice, court yards, are useful in many climates!
Stinkin' awesome yo! Simply, love it....
I love this house! I wouldn't have the massive DR table, but probably put my home office there. And not so much white... but everything else would be way more than I need, but wouldn't feel too massive for me.
Nice, Another bathroom in the primary bedroom might be a good idea!
Love the courtyard (I would need plants though). Would love to see more of these with courtyards. My home has a courtyard & people love it.
Ive never had a home with one but I like it!
Beautiful ! I'd put herbs in the courtyard.
Kerry, you have elegant taste. I wish you were an Architect.
Agree and like the idea of architect ...
Thanks for the feedback Juliet 😃

Ohhh ok, so the bathroom's by the kitchen so all the plumbing is in one module, right? The design makes sense in that regard. And another vote for flipping the layout, having the courtyard in the back of the home. Great video, thanks for the tour 😅❤
Love This!!
Great feedback! Thanks for your detailed suggestions!
Appreciate the feedback and ideas!
Courtyard houses are brilliant.
Why do these type of reviews never talk about price, or delivery or foundation requirements, you know the top things that people want to know about.
For some reason I decided to hit the like button. Maybe I'll do it again sometime
I like it but I'd prefer much lower profile heaters, or ideally an option for forced air heat/ac
Great feedback, thanks 🙌🏼
A Skillion Roof design with the middle section being level with this home structure would be really nice too. And maybe some slight form of a gazebo structure for the wide open front court yard.
I like it! Even a pergola
Other than that I love a u shaped design.
when it rains you wouldn't be able to utilize the courtyard. Its a great concept and I love the U-shape design.
I like the idea of a pitched canvas awning that fully encompasses the courtyard for shade and all-weather protection. It makes the courtyard more user friendly!
I love this! I’m scared to ask the price because I REALLY like this! 😊
When they don't put the price I just assume it's either,
Plenty-nine thousand
Or
A hundred and too much.
@@dalegereaux1863 - LOL! My mom was Plenty-Nine for decades.
@@dalegereaux1863😂
Livable for sure
Looks great and is well- equipped, except for 1 (or 2) things...no laundry room/washer-dryer?
I like the U-shape floor plan but this home needs some changes. Not only does it need a coat closet, it also needs a kitchen pantry.....the one that's there isn't nearly large enough for pots, pans and dry goods. The bathroom should be close to the bedrooms, not the kitchen. And there should be an option for a garage joining the exterior wall of the dining area.
Had thought of a u shape years ago
Would like bedrooms opposite ends and furnish it with more storage for cleaning supplies, suitcases but we'll done ❤ thank you differently
I would want a door on the outside of the U shape, then it's a private courtyard.
Oh interesting, I didnt consider that but I like it
The U shape is wonderful. If I were to build a ranch I would build a U shape allowing for a center courtyard. Facing west, it would be great and allowing for landscaping, it would be so pretty. Does the roof slant and empty into the courtyard? It appears to by the photos, I could be wrong.
😅 that was a smooth way to bring up the 👍🏾 button.
Haha thanks
