Tony thanks for sharing your reviews !
And you are a fine classic rocker. Sounded awesome.
hey I have been thinkn of getn one, you got alot of good tones out it hmnn loving it..........peace
Great review Tony. Also thanks for using humbuckers for the demo. All other demos of this amp I’ve seen used single coil guitars.
I know right ???
Great Review ! We’ll done my man and your playing is great as well ! Cheers
Excellent review, you covered everything , I may also add this to my arsenal soon , it’s versatile , light💪 and simple
I'm glad this video was helpful!
Wow, that is a versatile little beast, nice low end from the 10" speaker. They are definitely not just for "spanky cleans". I would like to try one someday and put a fuzz in front
Nice review,humbucker pick-ups,différent than other videos thanks👍
Glad you liked it!
Thanks Tony, 👍
You bet
Hey Tony - great review. I have kept coming back to this for the last couple of weeks. I've got one due to be delivered tomorrow. I'm addicted to gear 🤘🤘🤘
Nice! Congrats
Thank you, Thank you, Thank You.
I found that the stock speaker holds this amp back in many ways. I have had great success with a Celestion Greenback 10" and the Eminence GA10-SC64. Cheap upgrades either way and they retain the nice cleans, but allow overdrives to blossom nicely.
Thank you, Tony! Great Video. I also like the sound of ten inch speakers. I play my Marshall SV20 with two old 4x10 cabs from the 80ies. In my opinion this sounds better than with my 2x12 cab. Have you checked this Princeton with other speakers and cabs? As I remember , the Princeton has an external speaker out. A comparison and your opinion would be nice.
I was considering it but then it would be another rabbit hole I would have to get out of! Thanks for watching!
This! OR the 67 Fender Deluxe Reverb, DECISIONS. I found both of them in very great original pristine condition and similar price. What would I be better off with?
The first thing I always do with a Princeton is to take out the tube cage!! The Fender police will not be knocking!!
Glorious Page sound!!!!
Thanks Tony for the review of the amp - enjoyed your comments and playing. I’ve been looking at buying this amp but can’t try one out. I’ve seen the issues with the amp having too much bass and flubbing/farting out when pushed. Did you find that ? Seems to happen when driving the amp via volume rather than a pedal. The tube rattle seems consistent also. I’m looking at amp for home use. Have a Friedman for the heavier stuff. But looking at amp for cleans and rock. Blues lead etc. Not too dark. I’d love to hear your comments. Stuck in lock down in Australia. If not this amp any other suggestions. Many thanks - love your channel !!
I found the flub to be less so with this model. Some tube rattle but that seems to be same on all Fender amps with a tube cage.
Other than this amp the other choice may be a Deluxe reverb. Thanks for watching!
@@addictedtogear Thanks so much for the feedback and suggestion. Plus all your content - really helpful. 🤙🎸
Wow I’m surprised. Usually when I hear the idea of a ten inch speaker I automatically think it’s gonna be thin and unusable. But this sounds pretty good. My buddy has a Princeton but I think his is a 1x12 but he loves it. Most fender amps are just great cleans and handle pedals well.
I was also surprised!!
@@addictedtogear I compared this one with the blackface version & noticed the tremolo/vibrato are different maybe the reverb to ,more apparent. Also input 2 stays cleaner at higher volumes.
On the cleans it sounds like a fender champ.
I have friends in Canada. You guys, gals are Cool.
JENSEN P10R-F 10″ fender princeton reverb '68 custom reissue I have a Fender amplifier (princeton reverb '68 custom reissue) , I replaced the originally mounted Celestion speaker with a JENSEN P10R-F 10″ speaker, a more noble sound appeared in it and the rock claw is also . Regards
this amp sounds darker and doesnt have those inritating high pitch ear ripping sound l heard when stacking pedals on my hotrod deluxe 4 im sold time for a small reverb amp
I have a Celestion G10 Gold in mine.
Would you put a Dunlop Wha Mini through it?
Thank You Great Demo. And Your Grounded.
You bet!
The noise from the cage could be cured with a redesigned cage.
Even played clean that noise would annoy me.
I think that the amp is better suited to clean playing with single coil pickups.
Still a great amp for small venues or practice.
Thanks for your demo Tony.
I am always amazed at how Fender can’t seem to get the little things right!??
@@addictedtogear You would think that during the design and prototype testing they would find these problems, but they never seem to.
Having worked as a Hi-Fi tech, you used to see the manufacturers
making the same design fault time after time, it kept me in a job
but why they didn't put things right frustrated me and my customers.
Sadly Fender have a history of design mistakes, we can see the problem
and how to fix it, but i think that since Leo sold Fender, the will to correct
design faults is just not there.
I one of the things I like about fender amps like these is that the knobs are easily accessible at the front of the amp. I can't understand why amps like the Katana or the Mustang GTX put them at the back. How does that help the player?
I agree!!
When you’re playing standing above your amp like if you’re playing a gig
You should play it louder, as this particular series are designed to get crunchy.
The cleans on this amp with the reverb are absolutely heavenly, super fat low end, takes pedals well, but turned up past 5 and it starts sounding like the speaker is blown. I replaced the speaker to see if this would help, no go. It’s a really nice studio or practice amp. But if you’re trying to get your distortion from the amp, look elsewhere.
Its very difficult to get an all in one solution... But like you said the cleans are great!
Change the speaker to a Celestion G10 Gold. You gain 3.5dB and more spank. Turn the bass to 3 and treble to 7.
Cuts through the mix in a band situation.
I gues if you have a more efficient speaker, you could gig it i presume. You could mic at a gig to the pa so it should do great... thanks for the review.
Thanks for the tips!
What was the overdrive pedal you used here again ?
Mojohand rook
Great amp but like my 68 Deluxe Reverb better. Still rocks though :)
The DR is a great Amp. Thanks for watching!
It’s between this 68 Princeton Reverb in pristine condition or a good condition 67 fender deluxe reverb. I don’t play at high volume
Uh, I have one those vintage modified 68 silver face rigs and… it’s great with single coils for classic rock tones! It breaks up plenty… more than sufficient natural overdrive with single coils. Really hazy! It’s designed for pop and classic rock more so than rockabilly, surf, roots, and country like the blackface.
Also; IMPORTANT!!! midrange? You want midrange? Fender amps like this are deductive eq. To scoop it play with high treble and bass setting, adjust volume. Want a crap ton of mid? Play with low treble and bass settings, turn up the volume… get naturally voiced midrange from the guitar.
Nice tips thanks for the input!
8:45 Do I hear "I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz?
It kind of that sound similar, but it was not intentional.
@@addictedtogear If you doubled that pattern, you'd have the exact sound! I bet the guitar parts were cut on a Princeton!
@@RideAcrossTheRiver that could very well be. It’s a great amp.
@@addictedtogear I have the Custom Deluxe Reverb. Fender did a great job with these RIs.
Flubby is not all bad.
Hearing zeppelin tone😆
Always a good thing!!
It better for the price.
That Sounds Great 10 " or Not.
Hi Tony Baloney :).
Hi Dana Banana :)
This guy talks way too much!
That’s what…I say that’s what my moms used to say!
