Cool, had a princeton once. Best clean amp ever. Going 12" speaker will be a personal preference. Princeton's were known for its bedroom/small gig/light weight capabilities.
I love this amp. The alnico blue speaker makes it lose some of the spankyness that these amps are known for, but it adds a fuller tone that is fun to play.
Hey Landon! Great review. I have the Princeton FSR in Oxblood Tolex with a 12” Jensen. Everyone advertises it as 15 watts, but Fender has told me 12. I found out that it can’t say made in America because several components are sourced from foreign countries. They are assembled in Corona, Californian. In case of fire, I would save my Princeton before I saved any of my guitars.
@@matheuscolombari3110 I only have this version, so I can only say that I think this version is great. I play mostly in the house, so this is obviously loud enough, yet it still sounds very good at lower levels. I’ve played it with other guitarists on occasion, and it more than kept up. I think it sits somewhere between a Princeton and a Deluxe Reverb. This amps makes all of my guitars sound their best. Highly recommended.
No frils no thrils review. Shows exactly what a Princeton does. In a few weeks I am in Germany to build a Princeton handwired clone from Tube Amp Doctor.with a 12" alnico gold. I hope it Will sound the same as yours. Keep up the good work.
Landon, thanks for the video. I was looking for a Princeton with a Celestion 12" Speaker and didn't know this model existed, but after watching your video I found a brand new Denim Blue in Springfield, MO and I just unboxed it today. I wasn't sure if I liked the Denim Blue finish, but it has a ton of character which grows on you. Beauty is skin deep, and after hearing the Princeton tone coming through that amazing 12" Celestion Blue Speaker, with it's cute little blue light, I'd have to say it's the best amp I've ever played and it looks beautiful to me :-)
Great overview. Blues junior have their place obviously- for me the tremolo and reverb in Princeton’s make the amp sound mystical. Some say Princeton’s should have a master volume. Ok, fair enough, but there is a sonic magic with low watt single volume amps- you get overdrive from turning it up to the sweet spot, and I think if it had a gain control that overdrive sound at a low volume would likely not sound nearly as good. Can’t get everything eh?
Nice review. A Princeton with a 12" speaker is a great combination. Another thing I like about this amp is no master volume or gain/volume control setup. I like being able to push both the pre-amp and power amp and a master volume control just gets in the way.
Landon, you're pretty funny man, made me chuckle often here. I once opened up my Fender Mustang and found out it was 95% empty wood casing and 5% electronics, although I agree with you when it comes to dismantling amps, not a fan of it.
Beautiful amp. I played through a Princeton fsr in tweed with jenson speaker when I went to purchase a new tele at the shop, kind of wish I’d walked out with the amp and not the guitar, amps just seem an expensive luxury when you only use them at home and they have to be turned down! For live use I use an amp modeller purely for ease of setup and carrying but it’s not the same as a tube amp.
I’ve never owned a real vintage AA764 but I’ve built a few. Celestions are great for bring out more mids and tightening the fuzzy overdrive of Blackpanel Fenders. The Weber 10A125P is a great choice too as it is essentially a P10R with a Blue Pup cone. It’s half way between a Jensen and Celestion.
Very nice video! I really like the sound of your amp, Celestion Blue is a gem. I'm not sure about the Chilewich ... looks like it doesn't belong in an amp and a perfect dust gatherer too.
Dude you should be the industry standard for amp demos! Great job! And right on time, too! I'm looking into all kinds of FSR Princeton's right now. AFAIK, the '65 PRRI and all its variations are made in the US, while the '68 Custom Princeton Reverb (Silverface) is made in Mexico. I think that the amp is actually 12W and nominally 15W One kind request - could you measure the dB at different volume levels? At 3,5,7 would be enough. I really need to know to see if I can get away with one in my living conditions. Nice shirt btw. :)
hey thanks! ya I found the 15W label hidden behind the speaker cable. I’ll see if I can measure the DB sometime. I used to do a video where I max out the amps and record the DB level. It’s a really loud amp once you get the volume to 5.

hey thanks! The Tele Pro and Mustang were the highlights for me too. That's why kept using the Tele Pro for most of the playing. cheers from frosty Canada :P
I'm not sure about the blues in this amp. Yes it's a great bonus for the amp to come with this, but just not sure about it being the best for the amp. I personally like something of a hemp come or celestion gold to get the thickness in the mids in an amp painfully lacking in mids and lows. If you want cleans, you can get some nice full sound with the above choices, especially if the speaker is efficient. 4 can be already stupid loud for home use. Sounds great. I have the limited Tweed version with a 12-in cannabis Rex. Equally awesome. I don't know whether it's 12 Watts or 15 but it's freaking loud! At 4 or below the volume is fine for at home. Five or above is for clubs!
What a great review Landon, your review made me run out and get the last one in Ottawa at Fleet music in bells corners a couple years ago. I really appreciate that you used many different fender guitars. I think the Mustang really hit the sweet spot. I also like the Tele Pro a lot.
Thank you for doing this demo -- I just purchased one myself. It would be helpful in the future to share what amp settings you are on during the segments (e.g.: what is the volume at? did you change it when you turned on the SD-1?, etc...).
Excellent demo will consider a Princeton if I get a smaller combo. Really love my Laney GH100L s in stereo. The mustang surprised me damn!! I’m a newer subscriber and so far all your content is engaging thanks
I don't understand the plug in, there are cables plugged into both inputs, can you please teach me what that's about and where the cables go? I have the Sweetwater 12 IN version, and I don't like it so much.
Looking at your back panel it says, A PRODUCT OF FENDER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS CORONA CA USA So I would assume it’s made in the USA. If Fender products are made anywhere else it’s usually clearly stated on it.

That is a sweet amp, lovely tone Landon, I wanted to ask you Landon how well does those sound proofing foam work, I am looking at them, I guess you go by the size of your room to determine the amount of sound proofing you need,
hey there ya it's my fav amp ever. Check my channel for my soundproofing video. The foam just helps with the accoustics of the roam. The actual soundproofing materials are within the walls.
Hi Landon, a really good test! As usual the cleaners are fantastic, especially with the reverb. A really good combination of Tele deluxe and the amp. I was asking you if the output for an external speaker can be used to record and / or to be connected to a mixer. Thank you
All Celestion Blue's are 15watt. ( correct me if I'm wrong ) Other manufacturers build higher wattage version's of the Alnico blue along with different sizes, cone materials & dope levels. I would recommend anyone looking at speaker's for an amp to check out Ted Webber speakers. ( All speaker's are custom built to your specs ) They kick ass..🤘🤘
@@landonbailey I just checked the back of mine and I can confirm that it does say 15 watt's. I love this amp but to your point the sweet spot volume level is too loud, damn kids complain they can't do their homework!
I love the clean tones on this, but I am laughing at the Dirt tones, because there is NO GAIN KNOB on this, so all the dirt you have is from pedals, which I guess is cool. I'd like to see a clean boost setting to see how it causes break ups. You should get an EQD Plumes, set it on Mode 2 and see what you can get out of it by straight up boosting.
Ok Landon. Its been several weeks now. If you could Bill and Ted back in time, would you still choose the same amp or would you try something different and why?
@@landonbailey Hey there! I bought the same amp. I like it, but its a little "thick" in tone for a fender. Its clean and sounds good, but I cant shake the feeling that its bass heavy. Do you feel that way? Has the speaker opened up for you and changed?
I’m curious about the signal path. Particularly both amp inputs. Is there any benefit? I’ve always been interested in doing the same. I would imagine coining out of the stereo/R & L outputs of a multi effect pedal would be the method of doing it. Does connecting both channels really make a difference? If so, please elaborate.
its illegal to play anything but fenders....the amp according to manual page 666 says "amplifier may burst into flames if a Les Paul and especially a gibson sg were to be plugged in"...I learned this the hard way...hope it helped
Hi, great video and great sounds ! Do you think it is a good amp as pedal platform ? I only want to use it at home ☺️ Do you think a Big muff can sound well on it ?
Congratulations on acquiring a great new amp. By coincidence I just saw your video after returning from L&M with my own new Princeton. Mine has a 12" Celestion Greenback and has "fawn" coloured tolex and grill cloth that you might call "wheat" coloured. It was about $160-$200 cheaper than yours because of the speaker. The Celestion blue is definitely top-of-the-line but that's okay, I got some in my Vox. They also had a tweed version with a 12" Cannabis Rex speaker, same price that seemed to have more bottom, but not in a good way IMHO. There is also a version with a 12" Jensen C12Q speaker and brown simulated western tooling tolex, but they didn't have that one to try. I bought mine to have something lighter and lower wattage for my gigs, which are slowly returning. If you look on the back panel below the speaker outputs it says 15W. One thing I do is buy replacement fuses that usually come in twos in a blister pack with a cardboard back and I stable that to the inside side of the cabinet. If it blows one fuse, it could be a power surge if not protected, if more than one fuse, the amp needs service. If you are looking for a con with this amp I've got one. I really don't care for the detachable power cord. That's cheesy and I'd much rather have it old-school and permanently installed into the chassis so I don't show up for a gig without the cord. And you can't leave it attached without it protruding out the back if you want to put the cover on or lay it on it's back. I've run it through the reverb tank velcro straps for now but will zap-strap it somewhere, maybe onto the tube cage. But it's a great sounding amp.
hey that's awesome! I'll have to look up that model. I know the Greenback model, I had one in an AC15C1. I just saw the 15W marking behind the speaker cable on my amp. Thanks for the fuse tip. Anywhere particular of brand of fuse that you buy?
The 68 Silver-face Princeton's are Made in Mexico the 65 Blackface ( I own & love ) are made in America. I'm not sure about the Ltd? - but I'd bet California.
hey there! that can be though. My first amp years ago was a small Peavey Blazer 158. I lived in an apartment and when I tried to use it, I got noise complaints. I had to play through headphones. Depends if you are able to turn it up or not.
Hi Landon, how loud is the amp when the volume is at 1? I’m looking for a Fender amp that I can turn down at night and still get a nice clean tone. Thanks.
It was built at Princeton University in Mexico. Because at an Ivy League institution, they revere spanky vintage tones. I have no idea what I’m talking about. I do know spanky. I’m going to see what my wife’s up to.
I have wondered something about your Intro Logo for some time. This is a little hard for me to describe, but here goes: You have a first name and a last name. Each name has two syllables, for a total of four syllables. The Logo contains a little "explosion" for each syllable of your first name. So, your first name is accompanied by two "explosions." But your last name, which also has two syllables, is accompanied by just one "explosion." This inconsistency has always bothered me. If your first name gets two "explosions" why does your last name get just one "explosion?" So, my question is: Why did you design the Intro Logo this way?
Wow: quite a lot of F guitars =:-O Fender sould at least offer you a T-Shirt to replace that PlayStation... ! :) To me, the Alnico Blue sounds a bit harsh. My experience is that an Eminence Legend 1028K works very good with a Princeton (mellow highs, tight bass). Nice amp !

Absolutely love your videos! You crack me up! Still digging your Princeton? It’s my dream amp, but I 1. Feel undeserving, and 2. Worry it’ll be too loud here at home. Thoughts?
hey ya it's great! it is pretty loud at home, but you can use Input 2 and it sounds good at lower volumes
Sounds great. I have the limited Tweed version with a 12-in cannabis Rex. Equally awesome. I don't know whether it's 12 Watts or 15 but it's freaking loud! At 4 or below the volume is fine for at home. Five or above is for clubs!
I have that amp too! I bought it as a partner. it says 15watts on the back under one of the cables. love both
Sounds really nice! Love it
Thanks for listening. takes pedals really well
What a great review Landon, your review made me run out and get the last one in Ottawa at Fleet music in bells corners a couple years ago. I really appreciate that you used many different fender guitars. I think the Mustang really hit the sweet spot. I also like the Tele Pro a lot.
cheers!
Tele Pro Deluxe yet the Mustang has the balls to clean out the tones of all 🎸😎👍👌🎼
those were my favs too
Sounds amazing. You must be thrilled with it.
ya super happy
Incredible amp. Where did you find that (amp) stand?
Ikea bathroom bench!
Thank you for doing this demo -- I just purchased one myself. It would be helpful in the future to share what amp settings you are on during the segments (e.g.: what is the volume at? did you change it when you turned on the SD-1?, etc...).
Favourite Fender is 59 Bassman but it’s a little loud for the bedroom.
Excellent demo will consider a Princeton if I get a smaller combo. Really love my Laney GH100L s in stereo. The mustang surprised me damn!! I’m a newer subscriber and so far all your content is engaging thanks
such a sweet amp! I’m loving it
I don't understand the plug in, there are cables plugged into both inputs, can you please teach me what that's about and where the cables go? I have the Sweetwater 12 IN version, and I don't like it so much.
Input 2 is 6 db lower than input 1. I was probably looping something.
@@landonbailey Thanks!
Looking at your back panel it says,
A PRODUCT OF FENDER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS CORONA CA USA
So I would assume it’s made in the USA. If Fender products are made anywhere else it’s usually clearly stated on it.
ya the Princeton line is made in usa. I discovered that after
Yes, the black face are made in the USA and the silver face are made in Mexico.
Awesome job on this & sounds amazing !!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the video Landon. That's one great sounding amp! I used to think that Tele Pro's are an abomination but I may have to reconsider now.
No problem!
@@landonbailey I meant the Pro Deluxe - with the Shawbuckers. ;-)
I have the same amp. Same speaker. It is amazing. Best sounding amp I ever played. I also have one with the Jensen. It isn't close to this one.
awesome! thanks for sharing. how would you describe the difference with the Jensen?
@@landonbailey the Jensen is thinner, less mids. I replaced it with a Cannabis Rex speaker, and it warmed it up a bit.
How does one choose the best princeton?.....you are my favorite reviewer on utube
I have no idea how to choose the best 😄 It's a feeling I guess.
@@landonbailey well I can choose the best reviewer on utube and you my choice, always feel they are honest as opposed to just trying to sell something..keep up the good work
That is a sweet amp, lovely tone Landon, I wanted to ask you Landon how well does those sound proofing foam work, I am looking at them, I guess you go by the size of your room to determine the amount of sound proofing you need,
hey there ya it's my fav amp ever. Check my channel for my soundproofing video. The foam just helps with the accoustics of the roam. The actual soundproofing materials are within the walls.
That is a really good amp. Just a tad out of my price range
Nice amp bro. Sounds great.
Thanks!
Clarification: You have both inputs being used? 2 separated guitars or dual output ( stereo type) signal?
ya I think I had a Boss LS-2 plugged in for the video. 1 guitar
Hi Landon, a really good test! As usual the cleaners are fantastic, especially with the reverb. A really good combination of Tele deluxe and the amp. I was asking you if the output for an external speaker can be used to record and / or to be connected to a mixer. Thank you
the external out is meant to run to another speaker with a load. you cannot send it to a mixer
@@landonbailey Thanks a lot!
All Celestion Blue's are 15watt. ( correct me if I'm wrong )
Other manufacturers build higher wattage version's of the Alnico blue along with different sizes, cone materials & dope levels.
I would recommend anyone looking at speaker's for an amp to check out Ted Webber speakers. ( All speaker's are custom built to your specs ) They kick ass..🤘🤘
Man, that sounds amazing
Hey Landon this is an spectacular one a very nice good looking blue amp sounds great love it congratulations a very very best videos
👍🎸😊
I’m listening!
I hear that!
Landon, did you ever get a definitive answer on the 12 or 15 watt question? I have exact same amp and have also seen both.
I'm going by what it says on the back, from memory that's 15
@@landonbailey I just checked the back of mine and I can confirm that it does say 15 watt's. I love this amp but to your point the sweet spot volume level is too loud, damn kids complain they can't do their homework!
Great vid .. Really liking that amp .. What was the tune at the 13:00 mark ? I know that but from where ? You've done it on a few vids ..
Man that amp sounds nice. Never been a Fender amp guy, but might become one lol. Not that it matters, but in case someone asks, point to point or pcb?
pcb
Hey man, could you please tell me the background track's name during the Amp Spec sectionnof the video? Also great video!
hey there! it would have been some type of free youtube music. I can't recall the name
@@landonbailey Ah I see, no worries! It sounded a little like the verse from Fingers Crossed by Billie Eilish
Cool video man!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
I love the clean tones on this, but I am laughing at the Dirt tones, because there is NO GAIN KNOB on this, so all the dirt you have is from pedals, which I guess is cool. I'd like to see a clean boost setting to see how it causes break ups. You should get an EQD Plumes, set it on Mode 2 and see what you can get out of it by straight up boosting.
Ok Landon. Its been several weeks now. If you could Bill and Ted back in time, would you still choose the same amp or would you try something different and why?
hey there! I'm super happy with this amp. no regrets!
Those SD-1's work great in front of a Princeton...
agreed!
I’d like to know how the Princeton compares to the Campion XL.
I belive most mid-high range amps are made in Mexico, only the custom hand-wire amps are made in the USA.
and this one
Can any guitar be played on this blue amp or just fender guitars?
any guitar
its illegal to play anything but fenders....the amp according to manual page 666 says "amplifier may burst into flames if a Les Paul and especially a gibson sg were to be plugged in"...I learned this the hard way...hope it helped
Neil young has always been one of my favorite guitar jammers
Hi, great video and great sounds ! Do you think it is a good amp as pedal platform ? I only want to use it at home ☺️ Do you think a Big muff can sound well on it ?
it’s been great with every pedal I’ve used. Big Muff sounds good on it, if you like that sound 🎸😁👍
@@landonbailey yes I’m searching to reach gilmour tones ☺️
@@landonbailey at low volume the amp sounds well ?
sounds better at loud volumes.
@@landonbailey No brand, I think they are more or less the same. Just match the same rating. It looks like a regular 2 amp. 2AG
Dat sounds purty
The 68 Silver-face Princeton's are Made in Mexico the 65 Blackface ( I own & love ) are made in America. I'm not sure about the Ltd? - but I'd bet California.
ya it says USA on the back somewhere. loving this amp!
Why are 2 things plugged in at 8:05?
I believe I was running a looper through one of the inputs
Ummm while the video is good the amazon link? Maybe check that one
it shows me the amp on Amazon.ca. what do you see?
@@landonbailey ahhh OK in the UK it's hair dye haha
ah Amazon redirect I guess :)
@@landonbailey Yeah idk anyway have a good one man lovely amp
Have you tried any fuzz pedals on it? If so, how did it take them? Many thanks!
Not yet! I have a Big Muff Pi, but I haven’t tried it
@@landonbailey wonderful! If you get a chance, can you report how it went? that was the exact pedal I was curious about :-)
Hey Landon, I’m considering buying an amp for my apartment but i don’t want to be to noisy. Do you have any recommendations ?
hey there! that can be though. My first amp years ago was a small Peavey Blazer 158. I lived in an apartment and when I tried to use it, I got noise complaints. I had to play through headphones. Depends if you are able to turn it up or not.
My favorite color of cereal is light brown... or dark brown... or normal brown.
Hi Landon, how loud is the amp when the volume is at 1? I’m looking for a Fender amp that I can turn down at night and still get a nice clean tone. Thanks.
it's not super loud, but I usually play it at 4 to 5 which is loud. at 5 it sounds best
@@landonbailey Thanks. I've ordered a standard 65 PRRI which won't get here until next month. If I need to I'll look into getting an attenuator too.
It was built at Princeton University in Mexico. Because at an Ivy League institution, they revere spanky vintage tones. I have no idea what I’m talking about. I do know spanky. I’m going to see what my wife’s up to.
What’s the best amp for home use under 500$ ? Not for recording but only for playing in my bedroom and not annoyed my neighbours lol
that’s a tough one to answer. Tone is all personal. Depends on what you like to play, and also what you mean by ‘best’ :)
If your first name gets two "explosions" why does your last name get just one "explosion?" So, my question is: Why did you design the Intro Logo this way?
it's such a long story that my computer will probably crash if I try to type it on screen
@@landonbailey Well, that's disappointing. But, if you can't do it, I will just have to accept that. Thanks for replying.
Nice amp !
A fx loop would be nice
