When it comes to guitar amplifiers, many people's minds go straight to 60's Fender Amps whether that is the much heralded '65 series or the equally popular '68 series. The '68 series takes the parts we all know and love of the '65 but also recognises the popular modifications that were done at the time to the newly Silverface Fender amplifiers.
To put them through their paces, what better way to demonstrate how brilliant these amplifiers are then to plug a Telecaster into them, grab a trusty overdrive pedal - this time the Way Huge Saucy Box and turn them up!?
It's hard not to love these classic amplifiers, let us know in the comments below which was your favourite!

Does Jack ever go home? Ive a feeling he'll just keep blasting away with that tele right through the night because he never runs out of riffs. I think jack is probably one the best demo guys on the tube.
Playing timestamps :)
5:34 Princeton reverb
9:37 Deluxe reverb - vintage
11:43 Deluxe reverb - custom
16:18 Vibrolux reverb - vintage
18:38 Vibrolux reverb - custom
Great playing!
Perfect, Thanks!
No Custom 68 Twin Reverb in the review? 😢
I think about all the people that are missing this guy jamming...only 29.2k subscribers is like a private concert, you guys deserve millions
Agreed 100% the Princeton playing is absolutely stunning.
This is the best review of all three of these amps I have seen. Great job!
Great video and demo as usual! Thanks so much for doing these the right way with fantastic picking!
GREAT and useful content, thank you team Peach! Concise but broad enough for a variety of audiences...more!
My New Years resolution is looking forward to many years listening to Jack's awesome command of the moment with a guitar in his hands!
Great demo! Vintage amps are so ridiculously expensive and you never know if they’re really up to spec unless it was just re-tubed and brought up to spec. So here you can get a brand new amp that sounds great. Thank you!
Nice video showcasing these amps and your wonderful playing. Just picked up the Princeton 68 and love it! Has a tight sound with some killer breakup.
I’ve had a Custom 68 Vibrolux since 2015. Great amp.
Appreciate the effort being put into the channel by Peach / Jack. I'm sure it is paying/will pay off! Watch out Andertons!
Loved the amps AND your outstanding playing!
The Fender Custom '68 amps are brilliant.
Underrated amps, also the silverface is beautiful!
Outstanding video. Excellent comparison. Terrific player.
I've seen BUrgundy Mist in photos and thought "meh", but in this here videographic reproduction.... it looks effing gorgeous!
Great playing Jack, and great demo!
I have the '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb shown here and watching this demo has convinced me of one thing. That is, I need to get on that custom channel more. I must also say that I love the way this amp is improved with the speaker upgrade, making the break up sound so sweet.
I passed up the opportunity to get The Princeton which had always been my dream amp and I was almost regretting that move, but '68 Custom DRRI's versatility and power has cured me of that.
Awesome video, amps and playing. thanks and greetz! ✌🏻
Awesome playing man, you make those amps sing beautifully!
Wow. I love the Bassman stack. I had a Sovtek MIG once that was modeled after the Bassman, and it sounded amazing through some vintage 30s with a ProCo Rat in front of it. However, it was 50 watts! I would love to have something at 12 watts with a 10" speaker to get that old school mid punch in the face sound like early Joe Walsh. I think you've also convinced me to hold out and keep saving for a American Original 60s Tele--one that I'll keep for life. Thank you so much for using a rosewood board Tele in this video--absolutely my favorite style of guitar, and you did it justice with your playing!
i've got the 68 and i found i really love going into the 2nd custom input and then jumping the two channels and finding a nice blend. it's really great tone - best of both worlds!
I do the same.
Can you please explain how to jump
Sweet playing Jack , good to see you doing the business at Peach 🍑. Thinking of Princeton 68 , think it would suit my playing . Rock on Gary ...fond memories of guitar guitar days !
Sounds great !!! Nice playing !!!
They sound great! Great playing as well.
I have the Vibrolux and the MIGHTY Twin. Both are keepers.
I just got the Vibrolux and it’s a great platform for pedals!
Absolutely Beautiful Playing and awesome sounding amps ❤🎸👌👍👍
Thanks man. Great video 👍🏻🤘🏻
Great amps great playing great review.!!
Such fantastic playing
Superb playing sir 👍
Those are some amazing amps.
Killer upload. Nailed it.
I’ve had a 68 Custom Deluxe for about 4 years and absolutely love it. There’s a sweetness about it that no other amp I’ve ever used has. One added feature not mentioned is that it has no bright cap at all. The 65 does. That avoids low volume settings sounding thin ie the infamous Fender “ice-pick” sound. Both channels are great. The custom channel sounds a bit dark when you first try it but the absence of a bright cap means you can really use the treble control - even max it out and it still sounds usable, like all Fenders it has loads of bass and it’s best to run the bass low on either channel especially if recording. One thing to note though is the reduced neg feedback results in background hiss. After a while you don’t notice it. Just don’t think it’s faulty when you hear it - it’s a result of the modification to the circuit.
Im gonna pull the trigger on one of these it sounds great when I tried it hopefully the noise is fine
Mine was so noisy I had to do internal surgery on it.
My supersonic was noisy. Good amp but unacceptable. It wasn't that special to hold onto it.
it's called a design flaw and professionals don't accept it. the amp hisses like a motherfucker and it's unusable for recording. surprisingly an attenuator solves the problem.
psionic audio has a few videos about this.
Jack, if you are ever in the Pacific Northwest and need a place to stay, I got some land and a couple extra bedrooms for you and the crew to stay in. The only thing in return I need is an hour long jam with me when you aren't busy! I don't live in the UK but your playing and the great gear you demo/review at the Peach shop, y'all have a subscriber for life! Thanks for the great videos.
Wow, that’s quite an offer! Thanks for the support 🙏
Mate, best demo of these amps i have seen on you tube. Well recorded and your skills awesome. You really showed how versatile these amps are and highlighted why they are so succesfull for Fender. Would love a Vibrolux because of those 6L6 tubes but ended up buying the Deluxe Custom which left me with no regrets because the amp continues to surprise and inspire. Thanks for this most excellent presentation. Cheers.
After going down the boutique rabbit hole and being generally dissatisfied I bought a simple 68 Deluxe Reverb. What stands out for me is that it both sounds and feels great. I can lose hours on that amp. Get yourself an ABY pedal and you're all set. Takes overdrives really well too I should add.
Felt the same as soon as i got my Deluxe home and began to play. The search and the monetary loss was over. This amp is an absolute inspiration. Cheers
Ive got the 68 Custom Deluxe and Twin Reissue, those are top of the fender amps!
Excellent playing, and very enjoyable review. 💪🏻🔥
Back one year later. Saucy licks… 😎👍🏻
That Princeton sounds NICE!!!
Great amps all of them. But pretty sure that playing would sound AWESOME on about any amp and guitar😎 Impressed!
I've had my Custom 68 Vibrolux for one year and love it, I originally wanted the deluxe reverb 65 but after trying them both, definitely vibrolux is the way to go, killer amp!
Agreed so much better to my ears. I find the Deluxe to be overrated personally.
My mate has an vintage vibrolux. It's for sale but we can't agree on a price. It's a way better amp than any of the deluxes imo. The crunch is amazing and its ridiculously responsive. Super quiet circuit too. I haven't tried one of these newer models but it sure sounds good here!
Very nice video and review.
Awesome Demo 👍🔥🎸🦅
great playing brother
Great video! Please do one for tweed reissues 🙏
After switching out the preamp tubes in V1 and V2 into some old RCAs I got my hands on, my 68DR absolutely sings!!!!!!
I swapped the rectifier tube as well for a Tungstol version and it improved the amps overall Performance. I love my Deluxe as much as my guitars. This amp was the end of my search for the sounds i needed from an amp. Glad you found it too.
@@kristonterbutt7373 yup swapped out the whole lot. If you get a chance try some old vintage tubes in v1 and 2. I was never a believer in old tubes but man, it made all the difference.
Really Impressiveee review ✨
great playing dude....
Thanks for this
Killer riffs man
The brand new one sounds so good 👍
I have the Deluxe Reverb reissue. I think Fender should build in speaker level attenuators to these reissues. I use a THD Hotplate and it's great but there's always e need to play at different levels and it'd be an extremely useful feature addition.
That deluxe sounds nice 👍
This is nuts! My 68 custom deluxe will not break up like this even with the volume cranked to six or seven. I have tried multiple guitars, thinking I was losing a pick up, but it is the amp.
Great demo , but it would`ve been better to know exactly when the OD pedal was being used and when the natural amp over drive is being heard, some of us don`t use OD pedals.
Hey Jack! Yippee another Fender vid, fantastic playing as usual. I have the 68 Deluxe Reverb, I changed the original speaker for an Eminence Swamp Thang, tone is now far better. I also use a J Rockett Archer od & a Way Huge Aqua Puss and that’s me sorted for Jazz/Blues. Very, Very happy with the Amp and my sound. Thanks 👍🏻😎👊🏻
Thank you!
The Deluxe Reverb blisters. Jack, you can really play.
Most excellent 👍
Fantastic player
The audio quality of this demo is outstanding
I’ve listened to so many UA-cam vids, many miced up with sm57 or sm57 plus one or two more mics like a room mic, but the quality of this vid is special
I would love to know the mics, audio interface or mixing desk, software, any post production etc
I believe I see a lavalier on his shirt
Vibrolux for me. Covers all bases for gigging and sounded the best to me
For sure Princeton reverb is my all time favorite but the vibrolux if you want volume and power. Don’t know what it is about the 10” speakers and fender but it’s magic
Good lord, a '68 demo that doesn't push it into muddy bass but shows how sparkly it can be whilst also rich.
Hope you'll have a chance to demo the '68 Custom Pro Reverb.
My ‘68 Custom Princeton arrives in 4 weeks....can hardly wait. That is a beautiful Tele!!
Awesome demo! You really made that Tele sing through those amps. I just really wish those amps would be more affordable... they should be comparable to Vox AC and Marshall Studio series in my opinion, but Fender somehow charges a premium even on these made in Mexico amps. Please fix the voice audio, it's noisy and scratchy
Thank you.
Jack love your playing.Well it seems Ive been here before
I've spent some time on the Deluxe. Great amps and playing as always. Wish you would have out a Les Paul through the paces with them, Jack. Maybe next time? :)
Les Pauls suck
@@areyoujelton I was just going to type the same thing, but you beat me to it! ha
@@areyoujelton They're nowhere near as fiddly as a Strat, though. Add or remove a spring and you're into days and even weeks of tweaking the action back to playable. Then a fret decides to squeeze out above the rear neck bolts ...
Would you please do a clean tone demonstration on Dr. Z amps, like the Monza. Thank you so much. This really helps on deciding which amp to purchase. Oh by the way, would the Super Sonic 22 have fitted in this demo?
Damn, was thinking of going boutique with a mesa boogie california tweed, or tone king imperial, but this has me rethinking things. This has to be the best video on these amps. Awesome playing! Now I am really undecided.
If you have Boogie money and want one of these. You should really check out the George Alessandro handwired versions. I bought one a Handwired Deluxe Reverb a few years ago and it is by far the holy grail of any amp I’ve ever had. George takes these, pulls all the pcb out, replaces a period correct turret board p2p wiring and keeps the good components like the schumaker transformers and porcelain tube sockets. You’ll have to bury me with this amp.
@@MathewsGuitarWorks I will have to check those out. Thank you!
I was in the same boat and ended up just buying a Twin Reverb. Aside from the fact that it's like toting a refrigerator around you really can't beat it. Also I suggest you play some Two Rock amps. I wouldn't mind having one but would take a Twin Reverb if I had to choose between the two.
@@tylerangle1990 would love a two rock and I know I said boutique, but two rocks are a little more than I would like to spend. I don't think you could go wrong with a twin reverb though👍.
@@jamesmartin4098 I'm thinking about trying to add a Hiwatt to the collection now because @rhett shull made it sound so good on his videos... They're also not cheap though
Very nice démo. But I'm surprise by your crunch sound ? Do you use an overdrive pédal or not ?
Damn you’re a great player!
Having a separate Bassman tone stack is amazing. I really want the '68 Vibrolux they had. I would add alnico Jensen's and possibly swap in a 5751 in the PI position. Having the low input is good for clean headroom but having the option of getting more gain at lower volume is nice. It's not the terrible farty distortion either like most of the '65 Blackface reissues make.
Hi. How does the ab box get fitted to the amp to change channels please? Thank You. Gerry
I've got a Princeton 65 reissue but by God I wish I'd gone for the 68 custom princeton for both looks and feel.
Yeah the 68 tone is just a bit sweeter, your 65 in a nice one as well.
Best of 3 worlds
My god, that Princeton!
I got a ‘68 CDR a couple years ago. It’s a hum buzz & hiss special.
Not mine.
Curious why the Prince 65 runs a little pricier? When I watch vids of the two side by I like the 65 better. But this demo sounds wonderful.
What mic are you using in this video for the amps cheers?
i play with stratocaster and vibrolux 68's custom on custom channel the sound is fabulos for rock blues and the vintage channel is fine for surf music the best amplifier for club
Deluxe Reverb was on 9, must have been very loud in there. Sounds great
Would a WGS et 65 be a upgrade over the V type Celestion speaker?
What pedals are you running through the Princeton, an overdrive?
Would've been great to hear the deluxe reverb on something other than the brightest possible setting....
this one can play!
The Princeton definitely sounds the sweetest. Followed by the Deluxe, then the Vibrolux. It must be the cathodyne phase inverter working its magic.
Hi Jake T I kept wanting to like the Deluxe better than the Vibrolux and watched it several times clicking back and forth. I thought the Deluxe was a bit harsh and had more upper mids while the Vibrolux sounded better and more balanced....just not as harsh. I do agree that the Princeton sounded the best. Maybe I like the 10" speakers better.
@@HiHello-ku1fl I would agree totally! I always tend to gravitate to 10" speakers with Fenders... bassman, super reverb, Princeton etc. I've played/owned all 3 of these and can tell you imo the Princeton is the most inspiring and fun to play. If you want strictly amp breakup tones the deluxe sounds best, and if you're looking for mainly cleans/pedal platform the vibrolux is best. But rly the Princeton will do both very well (as long as you don't need super loud cleans).
@@HiHello-ku1fl I've owned all three of those amps and my favorite is the Princeton as far as people saying it's not loud enough to keep up with the drummer I would say I disagree it's f****** loud run it on 5 use your volume control your guitar got clean and crunchy. Put pedals in front of it sound killer. Used it for anywhere from 50s music to current all kinds of genres but mostly Rock.
I've got the '68 Custom Princeton. Great amp but I wish I had the talent to make it sound like that!
Ha! You & me both!
The Vibrolux is my dream amp. It makes me wonder if they'll make the '68 range in a Tone Master series? I'd love one with a power attenuator.
I've had the 68' custom Vibrolux for a few months now and I love it! I bought it along with a UA Ox specifically to be able to attenuate it down (and play silently sometimes actually, with headphones) which makes for an expensive but awesome setup.
I have the vibrolux and it's great, but you can't get the best out of it at normal home volumes - the eq only really balances nicely when you have it up past 4 and a half on the volume. Attenuation is the only way at home but perfect in live and rehearsal settings
Had my 68 Vibrolux for two years now but never seem to use it 🤔
Wunderbar
I have the twin good amp. Only complaint is it gets noisy when reverb is on 5 or more
What microphone are you using
Does anybody know what mic that is? I love the way it captures the breakup👌
Looks to me like an AKG C 2000 B. It's discontinued.
12:33
What mic is used?
I'm confused. Are you only using a mic on one speaker of the Vibrolux? Badass Amps!
It appears so, but I think that's pretty normal for a cab with >1 speaker (be it 2x10, 2x12, 4x12, etc).
the princeton doesnt have a 12 inch speaker does it??
