Dear youtubers, Im an Emirati (from Abu Dhabi) and after reading some of the comments below here is my advice if you wish to visit the UAE: 1) Go beyond Dubai and go to the other Emirates. Most of them are accessible via 1-2 hour car ride. Also you will find various tourists sites as well (Khor Fakkan has an old fort and off the coast is a sunken German U-boat. And Abu Dhabi has Qasr al-Hosn which is a fort build in the 1700s and was recently renovated. 2) Come around spring and winter: the weather in summer is too hot. Also winter and spring is when people get more active outdoors (desert safari, camping, etc) 3) Try to meet actual Emiratis as we will be more than happy to show you around the country as most people in the country are not even Emiratis (we only make up 20% of the population)
If you want to experience emarati culture you should have gone to Alain or ras alkayma... Not Dubai.. If I wear my traditional thobe in Dubai I feel like a foreigner because everyone wants a picture...
@LordLebu I think the only village in the UAE is in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain. But, I am not sure. Most expatriates don’t even know that Emirate existed. I did not, and I still don’t know what it looks like.

Funny. The polish word for coffee is kawa. Sounds familiar to the Arabic word. Seems that coffee is from Arabia even if coffee was once claimed as not halal in the Osman empire because of its coffein.
I agree , Foreigners living in Emirates need to learn more about the culture and intermingle with the local people. Emirati people are very down to earth and hospitable as well
As an emarati I believe you are wrong, you just didn’t search well and maybe went to the “tourist” places available. For an authentic experience go to rural places not Dubai, and don’t go to the westernized area’s.
This is the best travel video so far because it talks about the human condition. We're all looking for real experiences. Genuine encounters. Not fake stuff. Take a break, may you find what you are looking for wherever you go.
I'm an Emirati who loves watching your video, I will try to contact another emirati social media influencer who would probably be intrested in meeting you, also I'm very sorry for your experience
U.A.E culture or experience is in the farms, desert or the neighboring cities of the emirates. I agree most of the uae culture has evolved in to glitz and glamor but the core of it is still here and it exists.
Your new fan and subscriber has arrived. Congratulations on your hard work, effort, and wisdom. I don't think people can truly realize how much effort is required to produce the videos. Best wishes to you.
I'm an Indian who was born and raised in Dubai. The thing is that the emirati population is very small in the UAE. Most of the people are expats. That being said, you wont be able to find any villages or towns in Dubai. I'd suggest to go to places like Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah or maybe Umm Al Quwain as they're not global cities like dubai, but more like a town.
Respect your decision but you should visit Al karama (hope I spelled that right )on the other side of Dubai , a good bit past the Dubai mall , when I went there I met lots of locals and Indians it was great.
If you don't want to see touristy places then you should leave Dubai and go to the other Emirates like Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain, Dubai is made mostly for business and tourism, even the old souk is a touristy place where you wont see any locals or experience the culture, I suggest you go to place called Al Dhaid next time you are in the UAE, or go on a desert "safari" trip, or go to Sharjah Emirate as it is considered the cultural Emirate of the UAE.
Define culture? Are old building culture for you? Old buildings are just like new buildings were new once too. Will your smartphone be considered in 100 years culture?
Karl Rock, thank you for your revealing Dubai video! Las Vegas has this same feeling. It is initially so impressive for all the glitz but after that amazingness wears off there really isn't much else. Of course Vegas never had an "old" culture being purposely constructed for what is there now but it feels very hollow and genuine friendliness is a bit uncommon. Cheers.
There is not much "culture" to explore in UAE. You have to remember that it is an extremely young country, which was formed only 40-45 years ago. Also it is a desert where the "concrete jungle" is necessary for it to be habitable. So if you want authenticity and culture you really aren't going to get much. However, there is an abundance of activities to do there, many of which you may not have had the opportunity to do or explore before. To get the most out of your visit to Dubai, I suggest going that route.
if you want to know more about Arabic cultures city, you can visit Yemen, Jordan, Syria, lebanese, Iraq, Madain City (Ancient Arab City in north saudi ) etc.
Think this lad spot on. Think it's realistic. Been going to Arabian gulf for many years and it changes drastically every day. Best option to see the culture and not religion is to go to Morocco. Then again I did hate Marrakesh. It was absolutely horrible.
As an American blogger living in Kuwait I totally agree with your opinion. I stopped going to Dubai because it felt like I was still in California with all the expats. I've heard that Abu Dhabi has more heritage so if I visit UAE I plan on going to Abu Dhabi to try and find some local culture.
They call Dubai the LA of the middle east for a reason, Dubai is a quite boring experience for people who already live in the city, if you want to experience Emirati culture I recommend you to go to Sharjah and RAK, Sharjah is the cultural capital of the world and RAK is known for its mountains and beaches
Karl, You might want to pay a visit in SouthEast Asia Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and the Philippines. That's a GEM right there.
i sooo feel what you're saying. touristy places are really the worst. i always try to sort of 'break out of the bubble' when i'm visiting a place. fake potemkin-culture makes you lose faith in humanity.. : ( btw there's a nice guy named 'peyman al awadhi' who's has a youtube channel and is actually from there, but i don't think he's around currently.
I think nobody does much of research when visiting our country. They all say the want to experience the rich culture and what so but then go to tourist places or stay in Dubai only. Which I am okay with as I understand not everyone knows much about us but if you want to know about Emirati people don't go to Dubai
bamdadkhan none taken and Abu Dhabi is a good place to start off. You can visit many places there and learn about our culture but I'd suggest going to Sharjah or even Al Ain. If you are planning on visiting the UAE anytime soon I am more than happy to help you with anything you can direct message me through insta my account is sara.alnq. It can even be just questions I wouldn't mind at all. Have a good night
Got to agree with you... building a sparkling new "OLD" village is so FAKE! They make it with cement in such a way to give it a mud house look and feel. As you said Heritage village or building has to be something that is sitting there from decades if not hundreds of years.
Agreed sir. ..i am living here in dubai for last 4.5 years but haven't seen their culture or getting chance to have their food... THERE IS A HUGE GAP BETWEEN EMARATIS AND US..
This is awesome! Thought I was the only one who felt most of Dubai feels too touristy and lacks culture in the main famous areas. Good to know others see it to!
Just to inform you, Advertised pictures don't do justice as it focus to have the northern cities as Modern while actual traveling through center of UAE through desert like with simi old (Lahbab, Madam, Al Dhaid, Masafi) to reach the end like Khorfakan and Fujairah is fun and you can see simi old uae.
I have lived in Dubai for 15 years now. It took me almost 18 months to realise just how rich the Emirati culture really is. Perhaps it is because the Emiratis tend to be more private and, it is only once you have been truly befriended by an Emirati, that you start to see it all. A lovely, warm, and welcoming experience.
I’m Emirati, and if you are looking for real Emirati life you shouldn’t have to be in Dubai. Dubai is similar to Las Vegas in USA. There are other cities like Alain, Ras Alkhaimah, Um Alquain. I will see on my side if I can arrange for you something real also with Emirati family then I will contact you in your website. Best regards
If you want to experience American culture would you go to Times Square? Of course not. There are places where locals hang out in Dubai but are hard to find for new tourists because the city’s income entirely depends on tourism and that’s why you see these “touristy building”. Most locals have good jobs and live in the suburbs of Dubai and don’t have to open up shops in these touristy places and that’s why you don’t usually see many of them in these areas. If you want to experience the Emirati culture you should go to the northern cities such Ras Al Khima or Fujairah and meet some people there, they will happily show you around because we know not many tourists get to see our culture.
I lived their for 16 years and they have cyber laws which can trip you up really quickly. I’m going back again soon. They are tolerant but nervous of any kind of criticism. It is what it is, it’s not Europe or the US. That’s what catches many people out. Live by their rules and you’ll be ok and much safer than anywhere else I might add.
It was not the worst blog ever it was one of the best because it was authentic. Be true to yourself and dont be discouraged or feel like you have to present any specific type of vlog. Sometimes not all of our travels and experiences are going to be all that great or meet our expectations and that is fine because it makes the gems shine that much more.
0:22 locals are way less than 30%, they're between 10 and 15 %. If you're genuinely interested in Emirati culture and history, although of its significantly small dimension compared to other cultures, I'd recommend reading " My Story" by H.H. Mohamed bin Rashid, the ruler of Dubai. The book takes you through the journey of the writer since Dubai's population was less than a 30,000 inhabitant trading village until nowadays in an engaging manner. Despite many things I believe you're unaware of, I appreciate your honesty.
Oman or northern emirates is where you need to go for such experiences. Dubai is meant to be a tourist hub, only a handful of people like to see the culture, most of them come to dubai for the glitz and glamour. So for you, Oman or northern emirates it is.
After you've seen India, few things are of impression when visiting other countries, mate. Better get used to it. Especially superficial countries like UEA. However, I've been to both nations - India and UEA. I let myself become intriged by the use of power and authorities in Dubai. Instead of annoyment, I chose to be facinated. I loooove India. But I choose facination when it comes du DXB. Just think of their guts to think big. Where would the world be without this mindset. They have a skillset (form expats ofc) that reeks of top of the world engineering. This is just to mention some of the things that I let myself be amazed by there even though I am completely lost when it comes to their mentality, politics, environmental footprint and so forth. Let youself be amazed, Karl, and you will enjoy your time away a bit more 💛 Take direction of your own life. Don't just let things happen. Make it happen because you are in charge, mate. Namaste🙏 Safe travels! And return safe, mate 😊

Ik exactly what you mean, my guy. There's a sort of beauty in the actual culture of a given place which is possessed by unparalleled beauty. You don't find the same thing with these constructed tourist spots. They show nothing of the actual culture
karl ur right .. goto Morocco.. I really want to see culture there..meet locals.. show us different things that people never get to see when they travel in tours.. some authentic foods.. jewelry.. ways of living and daily routine.. like the video you made in panjab.. i would like to show my kids where they can learn from your videos.. I understand there is discovery channels ..
Last time in Dubai I got out of Dodge and toured Abu Dhabi, lots to see. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Louvre Museum and much more. It was worth the trip.
I dislike being locked into artificial modern environments - all concrete and glass - shops and hotels - materialistic and superficial. It's depressing.
100% agreed. Lived here for over 10 years, and there is no culture at all, it’s like just a bunch of modern stuff in the middle of the desert with insane prices and nothing more.
Carl. You want to experience real culture and real true love for ones language. Bangladesh is the place to go. Visit Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and Bangladesh cities still has rich culture, proper soul to the place unlike artificial Dubai, UAE.
Dubai is a city in a country where there are six other cities, if you are looking for culture go to Al Ain , 45 mins fro dubai , or Fujairah, all I see is comments saying dubai is fake, imagine going to new york looking for amish or native Indians? You want traditional culture do your research before
The real Emirati people are rich and live in gated communities and have very little interest in talking to a vlogger. Most of the middle eastern countries have minority population of locals and majority of people from the Indian subcontinent and other Asian countries who work for them. You are not in the social circles of the local Emiratis. Dubai is a boring place and a concrete jungle and beyond the malls and high rises, there isn’t much to see there
You should read up on the benefits and the perks you receive as an Emirati citizen and the government pretty much makes sure everyone of them is well off. Out of the 9.2m people in UAE, less than 1m are actual Emirati citizens and they are well taken care of by the government. They are in a different social strata compared to the people from the Indian subcontinent who work for them and are the majority.
As an emarati living in Dubai, I see that most tourists search the wrong places (tourist places) in Dubai since the western places in dubai seem boring, while the real authentic places we go to have less tourists. Also, all emaraties are not rich that’s just a shallow view.
Why people don’t appreciate honest opinions.. I always travel to see culture. I really want to see Dubai but if i am there i also want to see there culture. Im also against how indian trying to modernize everything.. villages are going away as more people wants to live in the city and wear modern clothes and turn their hoses into modern facilities. We had house in village with lots of antiques in india but my dad and their siblings turn into modern day house. We had ceilings made out of mud.. we had pataras.. old copper utensils decorated celiings .. clay walls. Open bath.. cholas.. so much.. i misses that house where my great grandfather use to live there and my grandfather moved to ahmedabad and all of are now amdavadi..

Funny. The polish word for coffee is kawa. Sounds familiar to the Arabic word. Seems that coffee is from Arabia even if coffee was once claimed as not halal in the Osman empire because of its coffein.
@@gozinto87 you learn something new everyday.

Not at all worst vlog ever. You showed that you will be true to yourself and not put on a show. Love it. Keep making the unique and insightful videos!
I agree , Foreigners living in Emirates need to learn more about the culture and intermingle with the local people. Emirati people are very down to earth and hospitable as well
You can get in touch with Khalid Al Ameri. He is a well known Emirati on Instagram. He has a page and some videos he post it on UA-cam.
Nigel De Conceicao lol I know him ,he does great videos !
Gulf countries don't have any Arab culture or people , visit countries like Jordan, Iraq,Egypt, Tunisia where there is real middle Eastern culture
There's really not a lot of culture in these small gulf countries. The locals tend to be very shy.
I highly recommend Oman though.
As an emarati I believe you are wrong, you just didn’t search well and maybe went to the “tourist” places available. For an authentic experience go to rural places not Dubai, and don’t go to the westernized area’s.
crash290 TEX-MEX especially not Dubai anywhere but there
This is the best travel video so far because it talks about the human condition.

Really like your honesty...you didn't fake an experience to make the video more interesting for likes..well done👏👏
Cheers.
i can totaly understand you. thats how I always feel in these tourists areas. everything turns fake, expensive and unauthentic.
Thanks for the honesty, so missing in UA-cam Vlogs
I agree! I'm from Saudi Arabia and I can't handle Dubai
It has no culture to experience
if you want to know more about Arabic cultures city, you can visit Yemen, Jordan, Syria, lebanese, Iraq, Madain City (Ancient Arab City in north saudi ) etc.
Karl,
You might want to pay a visit in SouthEast Asia
Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and the Philippines. That's a GEM right there.
i sooo feel what you're saying. touristy places are really the worst. i always try to sort of 'break out of the bubble' when i'm visiting a place. fake potemkin-culture makes you lose faith in humanity.. : (
btw there's a nice guy named 'peyman al awadhi' who's has a youtube channel and is actually from there, but i don't think he's around currently.
I think nobody does much of research when visiting our country. They all say the want to experience the rich culture and what so but then go to tourist places or stay in Dubai only. Which I am okay with as I understand not everyone knows much about us but if you want to know about Emirati people don't go to Dubai
@@saraalnaqbi3146can you recommend any places to visit? abu dhabi maybe? btw sorry if i seemed in any way insulting. no offence intended.
bamdadkhan none taken and Abu Dhabi is a good place to start off.
You should visit Oman, Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey.
If you want to experience Emirati culture, travel to Fujairah and Khorfakkan, explore the local villages there.
This is awesome! Thought I was the only one who felt most of Dubai feels too touristy and lacks culture in the main famous areas. Good to know others see it to!
It is but that’s Dubai. When you live there you see a different side as I did.
True description of dubai...plastic gold

Hey Karl, do you feel the tension in India and Pakistan at the moment ? there is some military stuff going on right now :S
When are you back in Dubai?? Get in touch.
you need to go to northern emirate locations like Fujirah, Ras Al Khaima, Khorfakkan and Hatta. Dubai is modern City, and yes you get bored.
Just to inform you, Advertised pictures don't do justice as it focus to have the northern cities as Modern while actual traveling through center of UAE through desert like with simi old (Lahbab, Madam, Al Dhaid, Masafi) to reach the end like Khorfakan and Fujairah is fun and you can see simi old uae.
to be clear, roads connect all locations I mentioned, so you are not driving through the sand.
Hey thanks for your kind words. We do tend to be more private lol but I'm glad you got to experience a bit of our culture
Mr. Karl, any plans to come Jaipur in upcoming days?
I live In DUBAI And The Thing You Said About The Culture Missing Is True, Glad Somebody Noticed
What u expect 50 years ago it was a desert and they were just living in tents with camels there were no cities or villages
I believe this was game-changing video for ur channel, where u told the truth everyone can relate to
is the touristy part of dubai even more boring than Vegas strip?
*BEST Vlogger 🔥*
E-marathi toh nahi pata, but I am Marathi person in Delhi. I could had shown you Delhi but you have explored it more than me...
Dubai is too expensive for not extremely rich locals to live there
0:22 locals are way less than 30%, they're between 10 and 15 %.
Actually only 10% of Dubai’s population is Emirati.
Let youself be amazed, Karl, and you will enjoy your time away a bit more 💛
Take direction of your own life. Don't just let things happen. Make it happen because you are in charge, mate. Namaste🙏

30 percent?! Dude I live here and it's actually 10 percent.
I always respect ur honesty and blunt views even about india...keep it on we wanna see u more
100% agreed.

Dubai is a boring place and a concrete jungle and beyond the malls and high rises, there isn’t much to see there
@@mikejosh5826 you guys stopped breeding, so we have to compensate for that.
Real Emirati people are not rich. They are secluded off in poorly paid jobs. You mean the 1% of Emirates are actually rich.
Fuck you mean 1% are rich mate 60% of us are rich
As an emarati living in Dubai, I see that most tourists search the wrong places (tourist places) in Dubai since the western places in dubai seem boring, while the real authentic places we go to have less tourists. Also, all emaraties are not rich that’s just a shallow view.
I remember when I went to Dubai all I thought was how artificial it felt. It really is fake, couldn’t enjoy it there.
Try visiting Doha sometime please :)
Dubai is just like a huge amusement park.
It looks like an area of a medium budget adventure game.
I’m a foreigner and I agree, this place is so soulless without culture. Visit outside of Dubai like Al Ain or Sharjah.
