Happy new year folks. Here's the video of the year according to UA-cam analytics.
Northampton Branchline in closed so Ryan and I head off to Rugby on a viewer request to seek out the HS2 waste dumping at the old cement quarry but also look for some epic places to watch trains in future. A video from this video is our most watched video of the year with 56K plays. This video is the full adventure.

That's what I'm enjoying filming at the moment and I believe there are some people who can't walk the distance I do. So if they see somewhere they like in my video they can go straight there and save themselves the leg pains. Happy new year

Yo @PurpleandCoRailwayAdventures , love your videos man i used to spend many a summer night walking up and down that railway line that goes past the quarry (It is the old Rugby to Leamington spa line) when it was not in use back the 80's and 90's and to answer the question what is this thing that is massive around the 27.45 mark is actually the Rugby Cement works.
There are 2 cement works 1 at Rugby and another , 10 miles away at southam (Long itchington) the one at Southam gets all the clay out of the ground and gets sent to rugby by HGV tankers to be turned into bags of cement, both are owned by CEMEX who produce the concrete for hs2, years back the railway line that you caught the spoil being transported to the quarry would of carried cement trains from Long itchington cement works to Rugby cement works.
    Happy new year :)

The site of the "Lost" station at Rugby appears in your video at 37.41 the car park in the middle of the shot used to be "Old Station Square" the platforms were on the left hand edge as you view the video, where there is an arc of parked cars. I also believe the the "shunting yard" you thought you saw is the main down line to Birmingham. The siding for the spoil to arrive at for dumping into the quarry was a dearly beloved line from Rugby to Leamington Spa. At a point where the loco disengages with the train, there used to be a siding into the cement works who had a private standard gauge layout in the works. At one time in his career, my father was the shunter on that system. I would ride on the engine. There was talk of reopening the line to Long Itchington a few years ago, to carry the tons of clay that now arrives by road, but the plans came to nothin, so they built the Western By-Pass instead on much of the line.
I am not old enough (83) to remember the old station but in the square, many of my friends lived in the houses that lined the square, (technically only on three sides). I am not particularly a railway enthusiast, but where you went in this video was my stomping ground in my pre-teen years.
    I hope this helps.

The big factory next to the railway was owned by Alstom, but was taken over by General Electric (GE) the day I retired in 2015. They did produce steam turbines for Power Stations, I've no idea if it is still producing turbines nowadays. Nice to see it again, I retired from Alstom after 19 years in harness. By the way the small cooling tower was for the site turbine which produced electricity and heating steam for the site long before I started there. At 27.40 the large tower is for the cement works which was run by CEMEX.

If he hadn't have fast forwarded the loco shunting around the train, it would have taken forever. - I have seen it.
