That's probably the funniest part when watching Stockfish vs another AI that's trashing it (ie. AlphaZero), where the eval bar just slowly creeps as Stockfish realises it fucked up 20 moves ago.

Wumpus makes strange mistakes which can be overcome if playing a human . But against Stockfish well one mistake is generally fatal .
A mistake is going too far...a few inaccuracies are enough to lose the game in classical format against stockfish.

6:40 Both SF and Leela was confirmed to surpass A0 by a large margin from top engine developers, even before they introduce neutral network. Specifically, the top 20 chess engines now can beat A0 for sure
In fact, I believe it’s unclear whether AlphaZero was ever stronger under typical conditions than the state-of-the-art version of Stockfish at the time- in the famous match, an old version of SF was used, they gave both sides a minute per move (which nullified SF’s huge time-management advantage), and I believe the hardware used favored SF somewhat.

@@jessehammer123 yeah, give a program infinity computers to develop on you're going to beat a lot of things. AI is the same thing. Give it a bajillion computers to do the work and gosh it does a lot of things. To that end MSFT is trying to reopen 3 Mile Island for the electricity demand of AI

Wumpus must have something in it's code where after so many moves it makes a blunder on purpose because those blunders are beyond me.

You should analyse more engine games. No top gm really does it, maybe because they use those engine games to improve and surprise their opponents.
Because most engine games are very tedious if they are close to equal in strength. Like a multitude of tiny improving moves, but out of say a 1,000 games you might get a select few that are active, and between those even less that might be interesting lol. Any engine games I have seen people show they normally have to make it exciting via oratory skills lol.

I think it beat stockfish after training it for 3 days. I bet with bigger and more modern/efficient servers a new alphazero would still clap stockfish if google decides to a rematch

alphazero beat stockfish 8 with 155 wins 6 losses and 839 draws
iirc stockfish 15 beats this performance against stockfish 8 therefore so does 17 and 16 as well of course.

One mistake is too much in chess. Such an insane line to casually say but is makes you understand the difference between top level players and mere mortals. They would be able to punish the slightest mistake. I bet e5 and a4 were inaccuracies too not actual mistakes.
