You know when you're watching geniuses performing when they can even make watching someone typing entertaining!
But it wasn't.
Love Bernadette's Farrah hair!
Alexa KL64 90% of the women in America had that hairdo during that timeframe dear God it wasn't just Farrah
@@tgwoolshire : Yeah, an' 90% of those women are now, well--hell, I dunno? (But I shure as hell DO-know, that ah' latched-me onto ONE of 'em!) An' she's still got the "big-hair"--just ain't as red, as it was then. Just a hair-bit on the "frostier"-side now, but still looks good--and, no-dye natural--to this day yet! (She's got better-eyesight than me, too.....!) ☺
BEAT BABY!
@@tgwoolshire but it was Farrah who was famous for it. Ladies went to the Salons aking for the Farrah.
@@naturalkinkycurlymarie7496 yes
The rehearsing for this must have been incredible. They are SO in sync, even their facial expressions. Only three minutes plus long, and it's 10 times better than any of today's garbage! Really funny stuff.
But somehow, it all looks better on Bernadette....
Agree 100%.
They cut it together !
Funny
So many people say this about today's shows verses the smutty trash they put on TV. I was just wonder if TV execs ever read these comments. But then I thought to myself even if they did they'd only do what they always do. Try to revive an old and ruin it the smut and pc of today, thus ruining the memory of that show.
Bernadette's laugh is hilarious. The ending is so sweet
Love the relaxed and near perfect choreography. Rare these days.
It must have taken a lot of rehearsing to get the skit this well coordinated.
Rare these day? Hunh???
Lolol who’s watching this on the year 2020 lockdown
I am! I need a good laugh.
Here still. Learned on this ancient thing. Loved the Carol shows! Went on to learn lots of clerical. Then it went to...You Tube right? That's where i am? Looking for toilet paper of all things. 😅
rio Me!

Need something from a saner time.
Bernadette's voice is so lovely. Watched this multiple times in the past weeks
Two things you dont see anymore: typewriters and metal lunch boxes.
Don't forget landline (probably rotary ones) and mechanical watches.
Don't forget dictation equipment to record and transcribe outgoing letters, telegrams, book chapters, etc. Cassettes with recorded material were either regular size or micro-cassettes (about 1-1/2 inch long x 1 inch wide).
bigbadbillb - Well, people still use metal lunchboxes, just not the same kind. Planet box. Hipsters.
And date stamps.
I remember my dad had one in the 90s and I used to love playing with it. The sounds are very soothing to me.
TV will never be this good again. And there will never be another woman like Bernadette Peters! Such a classic.
you mean carol burnett
LOVE Bernadette Peters
@@StrongnBeautiful I love her as well shes an adorable woman with a soothing serenading flirtatious voice and personality to herself
Thanks for answering my question. I was about to ask if that is Bernadette Peters. I agree with you.
Or Carol Burnett
In an age where there were no Xerox machines, no printers, or copiers. If you needed copies you had to take your paperwork to a room full of ladies known at the typing pool.
Xerox machines *were* available in the early 1970s, but only libraries and big companies had them at first, until the prices started to drop.
NotoriousNoe Ni Xerox machines?????? What year was this.... my grand uncle told me about Xerox machines...
So more jobs bsck then!!!
They did have mimeograph machines. The "carbon copy" was purple, and each copy had to be cranked by hand.
@@donnawoodford6641 oh yes! The mommiograph machine. Purple mess!!
Eeeeaaaaasssyyyy Strreeeeeeeeeetttt....
Rachel Freeman CAK A CAK A CAaAaAaAaAaAK!!!!!
Too funny! I love Carol and Bernadette. So glad Carol Burnett got Bernadette Peters to join her in the movie Annie, and of course multiple times on the Carol Burnette Show.!
What was funny about it?
lol, perfectly in sync
every single word Ms Bernadette Peters says is very very funny!
Two icons in one video. I love both of them
Omg, I Laughed So Hard Seeing This.
I Never Knew "Bernadette Peters" Was A Guest On Her Show.
💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Many times, actually. :-)
The Greatest comedian ever. ❤️
She kept up so impressively! What great choreography.
Once upon a time, one could have smart entertainment...
I was a typist (now called a transcriptionist) for almost 10 years, and this isn't too far from the truth...the office Gossip, the loafers, etc., and the swingers, and the non-swingers.
It isn't too far from the truth at ANY office...lots of gossip and most of it is/was true.
We had a few good lookers (guys), and yes, they were a distraction, and it was hard to resist looking at the eye candy...typing can be so boring.
Typing boring? You should try data entry.
That's just typing in numbers? I typed Credit Reports for awhile, which drove me crazy, so yes that would be worse than typing claims reports, and accidental deaths, etc.
Depends on the batch of work. Sometimes, it's all numbers. Other times, it would be both. In high volume environments, it's "heads down data entry" where you're always looking at the source document and never at the screen. Data entry speed is expressed in thousands of keystrokes per hour. I use to maintain an average of 18,000 KPH.
The Carol Burnett Show was always great. No other show was better. Not Mad Tv or SNL.
I have loved and had a crush on Bernadette since I was a kid. She's the total package. She can sing, dance, act and is sexy as hell. In top of that she hilarious. She's 70,and still looks great
Fabulous
Comedic and skit timing is fantastic!
I thought so too. I wonder how much rehearsal all that timing took or not much with two obviously pro actors.
Yes
Yes we can do that ❤❤❤

Bernadette still looks the same now. HOW?!
Infusions of baby blood and adrenochrome?
I've often wondered the same thing..🤔
She said she doesn’t go out in the sun. No leather face!
Vampire
My husband and I still watch The Carol Burnett show on reruns. Pure genius!
No you don't.
I know that I'm "a kid" compared to those who remember this show from childhood when it aired or even adults then, but I was raised on these reruns, movies/shows of these legendary actors/performers and their other AMAZING works; and even including today's talents, no one holds a candle to Carol Burnett and her co-actors on the show, (my personal FAVORITE) Bernadette Peter's, and the countless other acts that graced that set as well as our television/(and now) laptop and cellphone screens.
Such amazing talent and incredibly lovely people!💜
CAROL BURNETT AND BERNADETTE PETERS MAKING A SCENE VERY FUNNY WITH THE WRITTER MACHINE HAHAHAHAHAHA 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄❤
Such an amazing sketch!! LOVE!!!! I remember this as if it were yesterday!!!
Awesome. Bernadette looks really hot here.
Love them being in sync
The As the Stomach Turns with Bernadette Peters is one of my absolute favourite skits. There are always tears! Haha.
Wow, Bernadette Peters had that hourglass figure 😍⏳💖
Still does!
that?
Why isn't the late fabulous comedian Tim Conway listed as one of the main cast members in the video description above??
FYI, each show was videotaped twice in front of a live studio audience. The final dress rehearsal was first performed as scripted. But later when the final show was taped for national broadcast on CBS, Tim would usually improvise off-script and do his best to make the others (Carol, Vicki, Lyle and especially Harvey Korman) "break character" and start to laugh, with wonderful results. Tim was a genius in comedy.
This sketch makes me wanna buy a typewriter and also get a typing job! lol
You may still find one, but they’re using computers now.
*1974, Bernadette Peters was around 26, Carol around 40. Both still look amazing!*
This is so simple yet so funny.
Omg they pulled out Scooby-Doo lunchboxes 😂 I loved my Scooby-Doo lunchbox as a kid.
Matching Scooby Doo lunchboxes at 3:23
Thanks for that. I paused b/c I was wondering what character/show they were.
@@cmissshelleymichelle wow I never thought I'd see Bernadette Peter's and scooby doo lunch boxes in the same shot mind blown but nonetheless that's awsome to see
This show was my introduction to Bernadette, and I've been in love ever since.
right there with ya
*****
She's still around, you know! I have seen her in person, when she and Martin Short starred in the musical version of "The Goodbye Girl" in Chicago.
*****
Yes and no. I got to see her live, but I didn't get to meet her. :-(
MaskedMan66 I have met her she is lovely but quite petite. If you go to a concert try waiting at the stage door. That is how I met her
Nora Beard
Why should "quite petite" be a problem? I love 'em petite!
The 70s were AWESOME for TV!
I made a skirt like the actress has on, on the right. I was aged ten at the time. We learnt to type on manual typewriters at school. They had a few electric ones. They were used for if we had an exam.
Her name is Bernadette Peters; she's something of a living legend.
@@MaskedMan66 I know this doesn't pertain to anything but, don't forget about Carol. 😊
@@ahnyisbillingsley8589 The OP was talking about Bernadette.
@@MaskedMan66 I know. That's why I said "I know this doesn't pertain to anything"
Bernadette Peters should've been a regular on the Carol Burnett show 2 shake things up!
I used to have a crush on Bernadette Peters when I was a kid.
Brilliant sketch!
Carol is now 86 and Bernadette is now 72, so most their ages have retired, and now the office environment has changed so much! Most nowadays who work in offices have never even seen a typewriter. I’m from the era where we had typing class senior year, but we also had computer lab. One thing never changes - The Carol Burnett Show is still as entertaining as ever!
All that's missing is Tim Curry.
None of the typewriters broke down.
And it'll be Easy Street for them.
Don't you mean Tim Conway?
@@babawali3021 Nope. Watch the movie Annie.
So that is the woman from Annie?! I thought so, but wasn’t 100% sure. 😁
Anyone notice Bernadette's right hand isn't moving except when they're doing that rhythmic typing after Carol said "she doesn't know how to make her work interesting"? Is she only using her left hand to type or is she just moving her index finger?
Yes, I noticed. Before I posted I wanted to see if someone else noticed it. I thought that perhaps they have the typewriter automated somehow to keep them in sync.
She's holding her right hand over the "Return" key to make the typewriter ding and send the bar over. Actually, they are both doing it but Carol is doing a better job at hiding it. :)
After awhile it was all I could see.
Yep I noticed it not moving
Kee Leichtle Hands? Who’s looking at her hands...
That was adorable but l loved when Ms. Peters sang “All That Jazz” in 1975, on the Carol Burnett Show.
love
Carol burnett show
As someone who loves to write...this sketch amused me greatly! :)
It's refreshing 😊
True but Funny
Bernadette was so beautiful.
Excuse me, but: WAS?
She's still an absolute knockout!
@@diverdownaaron well that was a long time ago. Bernadette is very old now.
Understand perfect real life routine in synced
Bernadette reminds me so much of Isla Fischer (Isla reminds me so much of Bernadette?) in this sketch! It's almost creepy
Times and Equipment may change but people don't unless they want to
My first semester, freshman year of HS was the last one to take typing. I was so slow. Could never get beyond 45 wpm. Mind, I had taken computer since elementary, so I was confused why I had to take it. Afterwards, I was annoyed b/c they made us take the same course, but on computers. Like, why would you do that if you knew you were closing the program? Just close the bloody program...
This is soooo entertaining during the stay home virus...takes me back to the good o daze... 🥰
Remember, these people are merely human . . .
How were they able to DO this?? It’s amazing!
Those manual typewriters were built like aircraft carriers. Probably weighed 50 lbs
They sure did! Very heavy old things.
AllAmericanWiseass I learned to type on a manual back in the 70's. Then they progressed to electric. Kids nowadays wouldn't know how to type on one due to the fact they don't need to learn the rhythm method to type on a computer.
I've got an old Remington with original leather cover. Still works. Anyone want to buy?
Susanna Donovan call the American Pickers
@@susannaCdonovan23
You are right, I learned to type on a n electric type writer. The rythem used on a type writer vs computer are not the same. But as with most this, times change and so does tech
You could bench press them today
I'm sure I saw this as a teenager....and it's still funny....I just love Carol and Bernadette....both in their prime....such a good time.....
I miss the sound of a typewriter!
Check out "The Typewriter Song" lol
All I have to do is roll a piece of paper in the carriage and start typing. Nothing like it for your fingers.
@@upthedownescalator630 that one song from animaniacs right ? Were wakkos copying papers dots filing stuff and yakkos type writing on the typewriter

Did everyone see her special that was just on?
Bernadette was on there too.

Ooh...the era of typewriters.....can nvr forget d era......
I repaired a bunch!
No way they could possibly do shows like this these days. 2020 Loved this show!❤❤
What job would be the modern equivalent of a typist? How could this sketch work in 2018?
Such as data input? Word processor? Even telemarketer could fit.
@@maunster3414 Agreed. Telemarketer. Call center.
I absolutely love that these clips are on UA-cam! I grew up with these and it brings back so many great memories. There is one I have been wanting to see but can't find it. It was a sketch with Vicki as a secretary for a firm where all the names started with B's and she had to juggle all the names around on the phone. Was an amazing and probably under rated sketch that I would love to see again.

So much for Easy Street. :P
Same lunch box. Same drink.
That woman played the mother on Cinderella
Adorable❤️!
Nice one, even the sorta small one-liner skits were so well done.
That was so good! On point!! Masters of their craft! And Bernadette is about as cute as a button. I always loved her work and the characters she created. Young Frankenstein was my favorite.
This is one of my favorite CB sketches ever. 🥰🥰 Love the memories.
My fave Carol B character is "Zelda" but I have never seen it on UA-cam.
Tin lunch boxes! Awesome!
Slap stick hilarity ensues when you call the right guy.
Miss Hangian and friend beautiful ladies
I love Bernadette Peters! Should could do it all.
That FLIP is ON POINT HONEY !LMAO
Young kids have no idea what a typing pool is. or why the typing pool consists of 2 women. The only male is an executive.
My mother was a teacher. I remember when I was told my mum was getting paid the same wage as a male teacher. I had no idea she was paid 30% less than a male teacher though she did the same work.
The right to equal pay for equal work is affected by the right of WOMEN to choose whether to be pregnant, whether to keep a pregnancy . Vote BLUE. if you are a woman or if you are a man who loves the women in your life.
