HŽ series 6111 are Hungarian Ganz-MÁVAG commuter trains from 1976 which were used for Zagreb's urban and suburban railway. They were mostly replaced by the new Croatian-designed HŽ series 6112 by Končar Electric Vehicles (KEV). The remaining examples of 6111 were (for some inexplicable and inexcusable reason) temporarily switched to the Zagreb - Rijeka line. I completely agree with your assessment, they are entirely unsuitable for intercity travel, and the vandalism problem is just terrible.
To be honest, I don't know how did this rolling stock end on this route, because it is usually on suburban routes around Zagreb (mostly). As for the grafitti, this week in NL, some of the rolling stock I saw and rode, wasn't much better, for example.
Dayum, we really do have some shitty trains here in Croatia. For some extra context, the route many people take like 3 times daily, often packed with 80+ people is a route from Križevci to Zagreb, they're 64km apart by train. It takes around 45 minutes by car when accounting for all the waiting at traffic lights in Zagreb's city center (the capital)... that's actually quite fast in comparison with the train which sometimes takes from 1.5 to 2.5h or more... I remember missing 2 museums on a school trip cuz we arrived 2 hours late, we were supposed to depart at like 6.30am but departed at 7.30, we also waited at some random village station for 45 minutes. The trains are amazing though, they're very modern and can go like 200km/h, probably, idk really since they only ever reach 120 and that's for like 2 seconds (they have speedometers and shit, real fancy stuff) before they have to break again to stop at the next bloody village at which 0-1 person get off that's 3 minutes over, also I believe that the railroad was constructed sometime during or a bit after Austro-Hungarian rule, the 150 y/o steam trains went the same speed, around 120km/h most of the way... Would a direct route that takes 35 minutes kill them? No. Will they do it? Of course not... lol it's Croatia, why would we ever build anything useful...
This is an old Sisak-Zagreb commuter train that did that line multiple times a day, every day, for at least 20 years. Hence all the grafitti, dirt, etc. There are two other and mich better trains going on that route, it is imoortant to check on the website which one is going at that time. These are usually typical coupe cars.
Dont give people wrong information. There is only one train line from Zagreb to Rijeka daily. If you have to travel on a certain date you dont have any choice than this.
I don't have any problem, I like traditional railways with light rules and no barriers, I repeat as stations, landscapes and staff this route is fantastic, my problem is with rolling stocks
you are jealous of Croatia and tourism. go shopping up on the ocean in Poland. frolic in the brown water. you are so uneducated that you don't know a word of English and you still yell in capital letters
how would you create a "direct fast service" if you have a poor infrastructure. you could have been in a low floor končar train and you would travel on the same speed as in 6111 train for 4.5 hours. unfortanately, we dont have money for repairing the whole railway from zagreb to rijeka.
I know I'm goin to speak about utopia, but Bernina Railway has just single track , but they have 2 different service Bernina Regio and Bernina Express, you can give green light in the most of the station to a express service and put in waiting normal service, I think infrastructure are a real problem, but you can save 30 minutes at least in the route zagreb rijeka. Or you can keep this timetable and 47 stops, but you have to improve a rolling stock as RegioJet, class 6111 is the worst, in my opinion
@@thenexstation Although I do agree on some stuff you noted, its not feasable. Tourists need one train a day, and only over a couple of months through the year. Express service makes no sense because you don't have the critical mass of people who would use this service daily so that it would make sense to operate it. Also, Rijeka is an industrial, not tourist city, so not really much tourists go to Rijeka, mostly only switch there for other destinations, or use different direct services like bus. But, the good news, there is a plan to do a completely new route, which will unfortunately be a lot in tunnels to allow 160km/h speeds and low incline.
@@thenexstation there is no people here for that. our country has 3.8 milion people. trains outside the suburban Zagreb system are empty. and the train cannot compete with highways at these current speeds on the larger distance to osijek, rijeka, split...

This is an old Ganz-MÁVAG Hungarian made commuter train, I would be very happy to travel with it in Hungary, but unfortunately MÁV never bought one.
