Great video. Just the other day I had my starter clutch (Bendix} jammed in the flywheel and now I see why through your video. I will be adjusting the clutch (Bendix} tomorrow with the zip tie trick.
Now I realize I put a new starter on my onan B48g in my cub 982 last summer Wrong.. I'm about to go change out an oil pan, starter and a flywheel along with tin from an b48g to a P series for another 982 that I have. I will be doing it the right way this time.. Thank you.
Cranky, thanks! Brushes in the starter on my B48M-powered Miller welding machine finally wore out and I am doing the starter today. I lived life “wrong” doing the disassembly and pulled the flywheel. I could not find a way to get the air housing tin off without pulling the flywheel. It’s really tight on the Miller.
Thanks James. I know this is an old video but it is just what I was looking for. I wasn't sure how to set the clearance but now I know. Thank you.
Glad it helped

That stinks- everyone is a little different with cooking tins etc
Yup I'm the one you're helping. I just got a Miller AEAD 200le I'm going to change the starter on the Onan. Thanks!
👍
Thank you… I’ll be doing this in a few weeks. Your video will help
👍
Thanks for the hint! Great video. Do you have trick for replacing the crankshaft seals? I’m having a little trouble putting one of them back in.
Find a piece of pipe the same diameter as the seal and drive it in with a hammer
Thanks, I have a JD 318 to put one on.
Glad to help!
I've got an Onan BF that grinds when starting. Gonna remove the starter this weekend.
Use the zip tie trick
Thanks for the video James.
Mine is on a Case IH 1816 Skid steer, and no, don't remove the fly wheel. My starter got water in it and rusted solid. OH joy. LOL
