Yep, Carth can definitely play with the big boys, even on a budget. And your vote ties up Gartj and Chatterfang yet again with Grist only a single vote behind. Looks like no one can get an solid lead.
@@GrazzetMTG oh, hi, I'm surprised you liked it XD I would like to ask one thing. I believe you could've add more low mana interactions, even if they didn't interact with the planes, only for protection. Idk how the prices are in dollar for cards like Liliana's Triumph or Elves of deepshadow, but I think they could be a good add. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding something. It's because I tried the Golgari planes after I watched your videos and saw many needs for the deck to speed up the strategy and have better protections in Golgari colors.
I really love your videos, the format is really good, it's great to see the manacurve and how the spells are distributed! I would love to see what you could do with a bigger budget for some of the decks.
Glad you enjoy the formatting of the builds! I may have to consider perhaps making another series with a larger budget in mind later down the line, as there have been a few people expressing interest in higher price-point builds. We'll see what happens.
Saw your post on reddit and decided to check the video out. Great editing and format. My vote is for Garth for the next episode. Keep up the good work. (edited out my stupidness)
Thanks for the feedback and happy to hear you enjoyed the deck tech! And with your vote, Garth Ties it up with the Squirrel General for the time being.
As an MTG novice, I love watching your videos and seeing how you put together potentially potent builds without breaking the bank. While Chatterfang would make for a fun token build, my vote goes to Garth. Let's see how crazy you can get with those high-power copies.
As usual, some great work here! I kinda see you’ve had to make some painful cuts to slot in everything you wanted (no usual Sol ring with the standard joke :( ), but that makes this even better core to work with, as a price bump as small as 20-30$ will make this a *powerhouse*. Another one of your decks I’m looking forward to building in rl, although I’ll immediately implement some upgrades as the fore mentioned Sol ring As for the next one, and I think this one will be a landslide, Chatterfang is no doubt my favourite! Although if it wins, I’ll probably have to disassemble one of my casual golgari decks for parts just to keep things fresh xD Anyway, thanks again for a great video and I hope to jump the squirrel hype train in two weeks. Cheers!
Yeah, this build was really tight on a $65 dollar budget, so some hard cuts needed to be made. Definitely a few more bucks will bring this build up to a higher power level, adding a few higher tier walkers and upgrading the mana base/rocks will definitely help. And your vote ties it up again between the three commanders - Chatterfang, Grist and Garth all holding 2 votes a piece. Looks like it may be a tight race but its still anyone's game!
Fantastic, I was really hoping this deck would be chosen. I'm torn by the options available now, but I guess I'd vote for Garth just so I can see what someone can do with him.
Happy to hear that the next commander is to your liking and thanks to your vote, Garth pulls ahead in the polls again - putting some distance between him and the squirrel who was just behind.
@@GrazzetMTG In my unimpressive opinion, a Chatterfang deck is pretty straight forward: add cards which make squirrel's and then add cards which make non-squirrel tokens. Garth is much less linear and thus a tuned, budget deck based on him would be very interesting to see.
I'm really enjoying your videos! I'm just getting into commander and was looking for some fun decks to play so I decided to build Codie, Gyome, and Carth. They all look fun and have drastically different play styles. So thanks for doing all the work! With two decks I'm buying being green/black I think I'll have to vote for Garth just for some variety. A squirrel commander would be great though...
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the deck techs and best of luck to you in your future games! Garth gets another vote, now cracking double digits as his numbers just keep increasing!
Another great deck tech which has me looking to see just how much of this I have lying around to build it :) I think out of the choices Grist would definitely be an interesting deck tech to see what direction you take him/them/it in.
According to the lore, Grist appears to he a she/her despite being comprised comprised of insects - either way she appreciated your vote which ties her up with the Garth and Chatterfang for a 3 way tie! Lets see who will pull out ahead!
Great Deck. More Planeswalkers than I thought you were going to squeeze into the budget. I'm pretty sure this will next vote has to go to the Squirrels. It's the tribe that has gotten the most love recently.
Another fantastic deck. I've wanted to do superfriends for a while, but every commander for them was expensive! Not anymore! Also my vote goes to Grist!
Yep, Carth is definitely a lot less than your standard SF commander and his abilities are no joke either compared to his competition. And you vote brings the Vermin Queen out to a slim lead amongst the commanders - lets see if she can hold on to it!
Unfortunately that's not possible - Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner has a simic hybrid mana and (for commander purposes) that make her color Blue/Green. Would be nice if we could though for the ramp she provides.
@@GrazzetMTG oh really? So a green and a blue mana instead of a colorless and either g or b? That's good to know! I'm new to commander format and looking to build my first deck for casual play with my friend group, so all pointers are very much appreciated
@@HalGL01 Not quite - its cost is 2 colorless and a Blue or Green but because that Mana is Hybrid Blue/Green is causes the cards whole color identity to be Blue/Green. Because of that, it can not go in a Green/Black Deck (Since it does not match the commanders color identity). I hope I explained that clearly.
I wonder what you would replace with the side upgrades in the main deck list. I might buy the upgrades and the side ones too. No idea what to take out tho lol
At a glance, some of the uncommon Planeswaker's that don't create creature tokens themselves should be the first to be replaced - Daviel, Rogue Shadowmage, Jiang Yanggu, Wildcrafter being good candidates, as well as Arlinn, Voice of the Pack who while able to create tokens can definitely be replaced for a better Planeswalker. For creature replacement I would advise swapping out Fertilid and Pollenbright Druid as your first options. Spell replacements is a bit trickier, but Aid the Fallen is likely the first to go. For lands, swapping out any basic for Karn's Bastion would be my first suggestion as a upgrade - since the only reason it was not in the build was due to budget constraints.
@@GrazzetMTG Great explanation! Thank you so much for the input. I'm usually pants at building decks so its great to see explanations about what to take out and add.
By golly he's done it! That final line on Carth really came in strong. If you thought I'd vote for Garth, then you would be wrong. Fans are nuts for chatterfang: "He'll win by a landslide." But I'm with worm-walker gang: One more for Grist, the hunger Tide!
Good to here your hyped for the Elder Dragon deck and thanks for the vote, since it breaks the current tie and gives the Squirrel general the lead for the time being - let see if he can hold on to it for a bit.
I think you could also modify it and make it a half superfriends, half wolf hybrid deck as a lot of the plains walkers use wolves, even more so with the upcoming sets. As for the next commander vote I’m going Garth One-Eye, while the other two are ones I like I feel their builds are too straightforward as Garth I’m more curious to see what you can do with him.
Maybe the hybrid deck could work, but this time around I really wanted to lean into the Superfriends aspect - we'll have to see if our next trip to innistrad gives us some more wolfy planeswalkers to add to the deck. Going back to the polls, it looks like Garth is pulling ahead with the squirrel following close at his heals and the insect queen following close behind. Still to close to call though.
Glad to hear that Carth his going to get a new home in your collection! This vote again puts Chatterfang just behind Garth, the little guy biting at his heels!
Been wanting to build Carth for a while. The deck looks neat. Question though: What cards would you recommend cutting if one happens to have a Garruk Apex Predator, Liliana Death's Majesty, Ugin the Ineffable, Ugin the Spirit Dragon, and NIssa world waker?
Glad you enjoyed the build! I would say that some of the first choices to swap out would be Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage, Jiang Yanggu, Wildcrafter, Arlinn, Voice of the Pack, Vraska, Swarm's Eminence, & Ob Nixilis, the Hate-Twisted - which are fine if budget but can certainly be upgraded to better options. Hope that helps!
I've been doing some playtesting with this deck and it's super fun! I feel this is the perfect home for the silent arbiter I have lying around. Would you add the arbiter, and if so, what card would you cut?
Glad you've enjoyed the deck! Regarding Silent Arbiter - while it could find a home in some Carth Builds I would have to say that it may not be the best one here, since this deck relies heavily on creature tokens as well. That said, if you want to try out our for yourself and see how you find it - I would say that Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage would be my pick to replace.
So I'm planning to build this deck, and already have a Liliana Vess in my collection. What do you suggest I take out for her? Great deck tech like always, and keep up the great work!
Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage would be my suggestion - it does being up the curve slightly but Davirel's effect doesn't do a whole lot for us while Liliana is a repeatable tutor with a really powerful ult that you can get to in 1 turn.
Well you just may see that new direction since your vote pushes Garth further into the lead - now a considerable distance ahead of his fellow commanders in the polls.
Not in this build. In testing I found that opponents would usually concentrate on dealing with the planeswalkers instead of taking removing Carth - but in groups that tend to send more hate your way yoy may want to consider some protection effects to keep Carth alive.
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the sub! And the vote, since it again pulls Garth away from Chatterfang to put some distance between him and the two vermin commander's chasing behind him!
Now that's what I call a spicy build! Superfriends, assemble! Prepare for a test drive and get ready to Ult out of nowhere! Also, I think it's kinda obvious who gets my one-eyed vote. Day 20 of waiting for the Garth One-Eye video. Let's see if I can outvote the king of squirrel-tribal, since Chatterfang does seem like the biggest rival in terms of votes.
I would be inclined to agree that the squirrel would seem to be the frontrunner, but as of you vote it looks like his in last place, with your vote tying it up between Garth and Grist. But its only day one of polling, so lets see where the dust settles as more votes get cast.
