    Brilliant, the most detailed instruction, no one has mentioned the orange tft box and using the menu button to switch it over... Fingers crossed mine will now work properly on the flywheel.... Thank you

    Very comprehensive. You must be a teacher!
    GPS navigation still amazes me, although I still do all my planning on paper maps, and transfer a route file to my gps. Still take map as back up!
    Ride safe. 👍

    very nice solutions and an extension of the BMW mobile app to see every thing on a screen which is much easier to use it vs. the mobile app, Thank you for sharing

    First of all, thank you for the precious reviews
    I wanted to know if, considering that on several occasions, the old navigator VI allowed me to avoid fines from speed cameras, if it has POI management with audible and visual proximity warning.
    Thank you
    Sorry for my bad English

      No it does not have that, it only shows the speed limit where you ride, no warnings of exceeding and no warnings of automatic traffic control.

    tienes algún video como realizar el emparejamiento? , no sé a cual canal del cardo conectarlo, al principal? o al gps ?, o al celular 2? o al tft? me podrías ayudar por favor para no tener problemas de conexión, de antemano muchas gracias

      borre todos los emparejamientos que eventualmente ya tenga con su bicicleta primero (si tiene la pantalla tft), luego empareje 1. el casco con el navegador, luego empareje 2. el teléfono móvil con el navegador. Al emparejar el casco, seleccione Emparejamiento GPS. Asegúrese de eliminar todos los emparejamientos innecesarios tanto en el casco com como en el teléfono antes de comenzar.

    I have an older 2016 GS and I know this unit will fit. My bike has an analog dash that is hard to read so I tend to use my Nav 5 to display speed, ambient temperature etc saw some of this functionality in this video but would like to know if you can display the full range of info as well as pick and choose like the Nav 5 since I don't want to loose that capability

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  8 місяців тому

      So far BMW has not made it possible to customize the display as you (a many others) probably want. I would lovd the possibility to make GPS speed available and focused as we could on the old navs. I hope BMW will make available a customized screen....it is only a matter of software rewrite/update.

    • @richardsalsman1069
      @richardsalsman1069 8 місяців тому

      Agreed it is only software. Can’t justify the $1300CAD for this new unit without the flexibility to customize the screen thanks for clearing this up for me very helpful in making a decision

    Thanks for the video, I received mine last week and i just returned from a trip to the UK and back through Belgium and france etc... The main issues I have are deal breakers. I will return the unit Monday. Maybe I am missing somethng in the settings and you can provide feedback if you have any suggestions for me..
    When riding you can not see the GPS Speed over the Bike Speed, normally there is about 10% difference, the maps are very flat (no colour) comared to the Garmin maks.
    The menu system is too deep for fast activation such as marking and naming waypoints, changing from Avoidence Motorways on and off.
    No onscreen fast access buttons like the Navi 6 has for Media player, NO Weather APP!! No Safety (read $$$) Camera warning !! ;-)
    Also it drops WIFI connection from my Iphone 14 Pro.... using BT media is also a problem as it forgets to reconnect to the phone or just drops it altogether. on the ride back tonight 500KL it crashed twice to a blank screen which was just the final straw.
    So for anyone looking at buying this unit I suggest you use it for a few hours and test out for your style of riding and decide.
    Garmin say there will be a replacement for the Navi VI in a couple of weeks so lest wait and see. ;-)
    Garmin are hard to beat and their customer servive has to be the best, iin my experience.. !
    BMW is a long way behind..
    Thanks again

    What happens if you connect the smartphone with the connect rider? You can't connect the smartphone to the bike as always did? Or you can connect the smartphone with the connect rider and with the bike at the same time? If that the answer, I assume that you can use the phone through the bike and through the connect rider, is that correct?

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  8 місяців тому +2

      According to BMW the pairings you have done to the bike is disabled as soon as you mount the Navigator into the GPS prep. cradle. So you may still be able to use your existing parings when the Navigator is off the bike.

    Looks fine but what about route planing ? BMW app looks like crap :( and stays behind TomTom My Drive app. We still dont known how to properly use this nav and without other app it will stay as another tft screen :(. It should give us a choice to others maps i think ...

    • @thetubelesschannel

      Hi, as I said in video it remains to try it out real life. I have now tried to do some route planning on the unit itself. It works OK so far. Routes you have planned is synced to "the cloud" by wifi (or mobile phone network if you have a SIM card installed) so you may also view them on Connected Ride App on your phone (if you want it there) and edit further there. And you may also plan routes in the App on your phone, they are synced to the Navigator. I will still have to do more testing to conclude.

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  8 місяців тому

      Follow up: I have now also tried to plan a route on tourstart.org. Exported it for BMW Connected Ride (an option there) and then opened the file in Connected Ride App. Then it synced to Navigator. That also works great. But the route planner direct on the Navigator works great also. Still doing experiments. Track recording (and export) also works ok but so far no success import track, the unit want to convert track to a route.

    Sven - who do you think makes this unit for BMW Motorrad? Garmin? TomTom?

  • @sirfishtube
    @sirfishtube 8 місяців тому +1

    I can't get any touchscreen response from my unit Basically stuck at the start up screen of the death/time BMW logo then it goes to sleep.

    • @sirfishtube
      @sirfishtube 8 місяців тому +1

      Pulling the battery, I was able to force a restart and get the touchscreen responsive. Downloading maps seems to be as slow as it was in your video. Must be a really old WiFi standard implemented, as the 21GB of North America map data is going to take the better part of the night to finish.

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  8 місяців тому

      The unit support both 2.4 and 5G Hz network and even WPA3 Security. Indicates it's a modern chip. Download speed may vary of other causes than the unit itself, for example may the download server be restricted for download speed (bandwidth throttling).

    Is it possible to run the calimoto app on this device ?

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  8 місяців тому +1

      You cannot run apps on dedicated GPS units. You will have to use a smartphone or a tablet instead :-) You may plan routes on calimoto planner and export it...I have not tried if that GPX file is compatible with the Navigator (yet).

    Hello Sven - Mats Pettersson, Sweden here ..
    I like your videos - clear and nice..
    I use Garmin BaseCamp when planning my trips. Do you know if I can connect the new BMW ConnectRide to BaseCamp and transfer my planned tracks to the new ConnectRide?
    "Mats Pettersson Travel"

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  8 місяців тому

      Hi Mats, thanks a lot. Nor you cannot do that. You will have to export GPX-file from Basecamp, import to the Connected Ride app, then it is synced to the Navigator. But so far that does not work as expected. I have found that so far export export from tourstart.org as a ConnectedRide file is the only route planner that works along with the new Navigator.

    no me quedo claro como conectar mi iPhone y el casco, podrías ayudarme con eso por favor?

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  2 місяці тому

      Sí, tendrás que emparejar la comunicación del casco con la unidad GPS y también con el teléfono. Vaya a los menús de bluetooth en su teléfono y su GPS y también comience a buscar GPS en su casco com. Tendrás que leer las instrucciones de tu casco para saber cómo hacerlo.

    I own it since a month and I don't use it!
    - It is NOT a different device just containing the BMW Connected app, as I expected
    - I am using the connected app on an old phone since 60k km
    - The Connected Ride Navigator shows similarities to the Connected App, but the map graphic of the Connected Ride is on a pre-update level where small roads can hardly be seen on the bright background
    - Ultra bad of the new Ultra Ride: Stand-by consumes a fully loaded device battery within 1.5 days
    - Ultra bad of the new Ultra Ride: If the device is fully drained, it does not start automatically. The on switch is covered by the mount. Consequence: The mount must be opened with the bike key, the GPS must be removed and switched on and reinstalled into the mount.
    - Ultra bad of the new Ultra Ride: Imported GPX tracks containing multiple thousand points cannot be planned yet. A corresponding message appears on the GPS.
    - Ultra bad of the new Ultra Ride: Ultra expensive for an ultra low software revision V1.0.0
    - Ultra bad of the new Ultra Ride: GPS reception is average to low since the mount is covering the GPS sensor, the I experience lags from time to time.
    - Good: It can be controlled with the bike Whiz Wheel.
    I stay with the Connected App and wait for updates on the Ultra Ride. I see potential on the Ultra Ride, but do not recommend it up to now.
    - I plan a trip on the free version of Calimoto
    - Export the trip as gpx track
    - Share the track by mail to the phone containing the connected app
    - The connected app imports the received gpx track
    - ULTRA GREAT: The connected App reworks the track into a route. WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE with the Ultra Ride so far!
    Take an older phone for this, since the fancy OLED Displays of the phones are burning-in the picture of the connected app. Camera damages are more commonly shared on YT, nobody talks about burning in. Just to mention.

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  8 місяців тому

      @Basalderalder Thanks a lot for your feedback. I agree with much of what you say here, the software is very premature, and needs to be upgraded. And what you say about battery is also my experience. When I turn off my bike the unit seems to shut off like it should, but sometimes it seems to start again by itself and then drain the battery. And you will have to manually start it like you suggest. It does not handle tracks as it should and so far I have struggled to import gpx - routes with support points. So far only tourstart.org is working if you export your route as a "ConnectedRide" - route. I love the use of wonderwheeel though, and I think there is a potential there to be a great unit. Route planning is working great on the unit. You may also plan routes on the App and its syncing to ..and working....in the Navigator. BMW have a lot work ahead to do the unit great. The hardware feels very solid, also the display is great. Phone calls and play music works great..

    Just another reason to keep google maps on mobile phone as navi unit,this device is far too expensive and useless

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  8 місяців тому

      For many that is enough...most will then buy a holder for the phone and make sure it keeps charged. And if you ride outside cellular network coverage, have some offline maps ready. A modern phone costs twice the Navigator ;-) For example iPhone 15
