How to Increase Temperature on AO Smith Water Heater

  • Here's how to turn up the heat on your AO Smith Water Heater. I bought mine from Lowes Hardware. It's a simple process of just turning a few screws under the removable panels. Be sure to turn off the breaker on your water heater first to avoid the slightest possibility of electrical shock.

    Year 2021 and this company could not be bothered with making a knob to adjust water temp. Thank you for this video as I was becoming quite annoyed trying to figure it out.

      Totally agree about the knob. Good grief.

      YEAH!!! What's the deal with the knob? Fragility issues maybe?

      @@peter-peter5929 I'm guessing they make adjusting water temp a chore so dummies don't make water too hot harming themselves or others.

      The company probably doesn't consider this as a "user adjustment".

    Thank you. I'm used to a gas water heater, which just has an exposed control knob. I assumed there was something behind the panels, but it was helpful to know that I'd need to shut off the breaker & adjust both knobs.

    Thank you brother, couldn’t quite figure out where the temperature knob was at. I read the manufacturer’s instructions, but the instructions are vague and not a single diagram. Was a little suprised once I saw the foam and some exposed ground wires, but then It all made sense once I saw your video. Thanks for the video and clear instructions. Great job!
    NOTE: the instructions manual says to set both top & bottom panel temperature dials at the same temperature or possible damages can occur.

    Thank you for this video!! I have the same one and my hot water only lasts short amount of time and it’s barely warm. Now I fixed it!!!! Without having someone doing it. Thank you so much!

    Thank you for this video!!! It was driving me crazy that I couldn't figure this out on this particular unit. You'd think they'd make a simple outside temp knob, but no, you gotta disconnect power to the room, unscrew the panel and remove padding, only to need a flat head to adjust the thingy.. haha ridiculous, but again, thank you for the helpful video! Got my water temp up just fine.

      Water heaters have more than one heating element. They come in stages. Electric heat strips in air handlers do as well.

    I couldn’t get to the bottom one. The wires and insulation was in such a way that I just couldn’t maneuver. I couldn’t even see the temp gauge. It seemed to be a lot higher at the top then the top temp adjustment panel. What can I do? My insulation was also stuffed in unlike yours

    • @SagittalAxis
      @SagittalAxis Рік тому +1

      Just rip the insulation out. The one on the bottom was also not cut properly so I couldn't just lift it out, so I had to give it a good tug at the bottom and it ripped right out with virtually no mess, and I can easily put it right back to where it was

    120 degrees is what's recommended from what I have heard. 130 may be a bit high. My wife likes it scalding, but I'm having none of that.

    Is there an electrical shock risk if I leave the metal panel off my water heater after adjusting? (Dang it this is why water and electric don’t mix 🤬) Gas all the way, next house

      That’s my issue. I can’t get to the bottom one. The insulation is all stuffed in and not like cut to wear I can lift it up nicely. And the wires are like in front of the installation a little. I couldn’t even see the temp gauge on the bottom panel at all and I literally seem to the middle. What should I do about this ?
