I’m from Panama City, Panama 🇵🇦 and believe me even in this generation they know who Roberto Duran is. The part where the champ dies with aids and he hugs him made me tear up. You would have had to live in those times to understand the misinformation about that virus to understand. So for him to go and hug that man and show him respect and dignity shows he was a true friend. Great sportsmanship on his part. It’s complete now, four KINGS will never be forgotten 👑 👑 👑 👑.
I’ve been to Panama City. Down town is one of the most bustling, modern day looking cities, just like what you’d see almost anywhere else in the world. But if one were to pan the city skyline, they’d see gleaming office towers that would abruptly turn to some of the poorest slums. A city of “the have’s and the have nots
He fought in the 60's, 70's, 80's 90's and 00's!! He fought until he was 50. But this excellent video covers the great period of Lightweight champion in 1972 (aged 21) to Middleweight champion in 1989 (aged 37). The majority of his losses were from aged 37-50!! Along with Tyson and Hagler, my favorite boxer of all time.
I laughed, I cried, I questioned everything.. and all before I even clicked the play button. Some of your finest work Mr. Vincent. Been waiting for this for a long time, well worth the wait.
The greatest fighter of all time in my opinion. Too many people place emphasis on his fabulous 4 series of bouts, what people don’t realise is that he was already the greatest lightweight of all time before those guys even fought each other!!! 72-1 !!
@@rico14 They don't realise or even ask themselves the question, if the other 3 were lightweights like Duran, how would they fare against him? In my opinion Duran beats them all on his best day. Look at how Duran did against Hagler, the greatest lightweight ever moving up and giving the greatest middleweight of all time one hell of a close fight.
What I like about Robert Duran is his honesty and sincerity. And he was on the side of the poor. He was Boxing World's Robin Hood. And he's the best boxer ever to live. For that reason, I rank him above Muhamed Ali. And joe Fraiser was the real Rocky.
Just yesterday I was looking for career highlights of Duran and thought "so weird vincent hasnt done one about Duran yet". Only took you a day to deliver. Great content as always!
THIS, this is the one I've been waiting for. Thank you. People sadly talk about him and think about him his higher weight divisions, but when I studied tape coming up I was blown away to learn how light he really was in his prime. There has never been a lightweight that will touch what duran was. 62-1 54 ko's and avenged his only blemish at his real weight class. Only fought the toughest, back when boxing wasn't the bullshit it's become. There is not doubt in my mind that he is the single greatest lightweight of all time.
Absolutely agree about the bs. All of the promotions, belts and divisions keeping the best fighters and bouts from being made so they could print more money. It literally stole the passion and reverence for me as a fan. Almost 40 now but as a teen I couldn't articulate what or why it was happening as a young man but I knew I was so frustrated and eventually disgusted certain fights wouldn't be made due to rival television brands and companies.
Roberto Duran is not just a 'Hands of Stone' but also a 'Heart of Lion'. Watching his battle with Iran Barkley is like watching 'Rocky vs. Clubber Lang' in _Rocky 3_ (my favorite of all Rocky's). Great respect to you Champ!🥇🏆🥊
leonard getting a rematch that soon after the first fight is ridiculous but that's what he did: get unfair advantages based on his celebrity. i wish duran had beat leonard in the second fight too.
In the early 70's I saw a Roberto Duran fight and that was the start of a journey. Maybe it's because him and I are the same age, regardless his tenacity, his will to prevail and acceptance of who the real adversary in life really was inspired me to this day. I lost track of how many videos I've watched of his fights, they are like a touchstone in life. Hand me my mouth piece!
This is awesome, thank you. Physiologically, just look at the width of his clavicles (shoulder bones) in proportion to the size of his frame, he is a beast. The torque he can create from his centre line with such broad bone structure accounts for the blows that 'dont look much' but still KO people. You can't learn this type of power, you're either born with it or you'e not.
No, Duran had incredible waist and knee movement and upper and lower body combination, making him extremely balanced on his feet but more importantly that allowed him to put the weight of his whole body on every punch, every jab and even most uppercuts. As for the shoulder, of course he had a strong and wide shoulder but that's very common in the lower weights
Excellent video. Duran was the best lightweight ever. I was at that fight in A.C. when Duran beat Barkley. I’d say about 80% of the crowd was for Duran.
Hands of stone was no joke! Oh his best and most conditioned day, I don’t think there was anyone at lightweight or welterweight that could beat him! He had defense, handspeed, in fighting, intelligence, and a scary will to win! There wasn’t anything he didn’t have! So glad you made this about him. I have been waiting🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊
@The Trash Patrol Duran was old, had just come off of beating Moore and almost taking Hagler's title. In no way should Duran of signed to fight Hearns after those 2 fights. At his age, he needed a couple of softer fights prior to Hearns. Promoters needed the Hearns vs Duran fight to set up the Hearns vs Hagler fight. Duran came into the fight unprepared and Hearns made him pay. If the Duran of Montreal had shown up, might have been a different story. Supposedly, Duran was partying in Miami and was drunk, one of Hearns people came up to Roberto and said he had a 100 grand in his briefcase and would give it to him if he signed to fight Tommy. Duran's drinking got him in trouble again. Duran took that fight for the money.
Duran is under Sugar Ray Robinson for my vintage P4P list. Boxers who have been in more than 3 weight classes, you know that they're a real deal and a legend. One of the greatest.

Great documentary. Roberto Duran will be great for years and years. A hard-working boxer, persistent and courageous man. After the No mas he didn't care at all, and returned to do what made him famous: boxing to win. Congratulations Panama.
Thank you for uploading this. One of the greatest 'of all time' no questions & to be honest one of my time five boxers of any era or weight division. Robert Duran was a monster and tactical fighter.
His win against Sugar Ray in their first fight was the beginning of his demise. He took the Marvin Hagler quote about waking up in silk sheets to the definition. (Fairly certain Hagler said that) Duran, was at his very best in that fight and was a world beater.
He had such a crazy few years after that monumental win, obviously what happened in the rematch, then losing to Kirkland Laing, getting drilled by Tommy Hearns, losing to Hagler. The fact he was able to win the middleweight title against Barkley is almost as great a victory as his win over Ray.
I've always felt that Leonard deliberately threw that first fight, and I still do. The idea that Leonard fought Duran flat footed just to beat him at his own game is just BS. Leonard was a 9-5 favorite, and my money says that Leonard bet his money on Duran to score more money from losing than he made in the ring anyway. In the "No Mas !!!" fight, Duran was confused because he felt like he was up against a totally different fighter, and he was. Leonard was faking it all the way in the 1st fight for a Big Pay Day with the bookies, and an even Bigger Pay Day in the rematch. Leonard could've easily beat Duran in the 1st fight if he had just stuck to his style. For Leonard to have rationally chosen to fight the way he did in Fight #1 is Just A STUPID Idea !!! My only question is how much Angelo Dundee made betting against his own fighter, because I'm certain that he did.
@@JosephKulik2016 Leonard did not throw the fight. Yes he was favored because he was a great welterweight champion. Usually great larger fighters beat the smaller fighter who is moving up. But more sportswriters felt Duran would win. In fact most picked Duran by knock out. So Vegas slightly favored Ray but sportswriters favored Roberto. The fight more than lived up to expectation. Duran kept the pressure and Ray kept fighting back. A lesser fighter would have folded with the punishment Roberto delivered. In my opinion this was the best all around fight of the decade. Roberto would never be the same after this. He lost the hunger after this. He did pick up a couple of titles late in his career but he was nowhere near the same. But his prime was 1975 to 1978. He was a beast at lightweight and in my opinion the greatest lightweight ever.
I will say that's after what 75 fights for pennies? To any normal human being I would think that is a natural reaction, every Leonard fell apart with the fame, Hagler is an honest to Monk with his dedication
Boom! Perfect timing. Duran is one of my favorite fighters ever. Like they said in the documentary, wins and losses were secondary to how great the fights were.
That was the era of boxing that I enjoyed the most and I was lucky to meet Duran in Panama at his restaurant when I visited Panama in 2011. He showed me his lightweight championship belt and his classic fights were being played on TV in his restaurant. We had a long conversation about his career. I don't bother to spend time and money in boxing today because it is a travesty, and it doesn't come close to the era of boxing when Duran was in the game.
I'm with bounty rogue cinaemax , almost broke my screen to watch. No joke Duran was a dude with legit heart. No matter what is said about his loses and total career , Roberto was a beast. No fux given, or taken.
I grew up watching all these fighters, Duran is a legend without a doubt, greatest era in boxing, even my Uncle agreed Dick McTaggart MBE, his record in the UK , ABA, 634 fights, lost 24,l won 610, another legend and a true gentleman
Another incredible short film. If any younger generations want to know about fighters from any era I’ll point them to this channel. Rock on Joe Vincent 🥊
Duran's style was the perfect style to counter the dancing/running BS style of boxing. No boxer can be called to have a perfect style in boxing but perhaps Roberto's style was the closest to the perfection. Artur Beterbiev also has a very similar fighting/mauling style like Roberto Duran.

@@BLAHBLAH-po4wc beautiful aspirations. Depending on your style that is most adaptive to the way you are boxing studying all of those great fighters is one way to learn the sweet science, and then from there adapt it to your own style that suits you best. I was for the most part always a boxing fan, my dad used to say there was never anyone like Sugar Ray Robison, he could do it all. However, my true love for the sport started when Bill Gallo a sports cartoonist and columnist was on a show evaluating the top three fighters of all time, in their respective weight division. When they got to the lightweight division, I think they gave Duran the nod for the top spot, AND this was long before his fight with SRL and anyone else in the higher weight divisions. Anyway, they showed this old black and white film clip of Duran fighting this Japanese fighter. In normal speed it looked like the Japanese fighter was all over Duran. It was happening too fast, then they showed it in slow motion where Duran was dodging almost every one of those punches, I think that counted off over 10 punches, then doing a move with what they later called the Waltz and did the same to his opponent. The difference is Duran connected with his punches. SRL in his interview with Howard Cosell after his 1st fight with Duran acknowledged that "Duran is not easy to hit" . SRL had an 8-inch reach advantage, extremely difficult to overcome. One of the best inside fighters the sport has ever seen, so good even Hagler was cautious. Anyway enjoy it for the art it is. Fighters to study and read up on in my opinion are Willy Pep, Harry Grebb, Marcel Cerdan more recently not so notable but overlooked great fighters in the smaller division would be Johnny Tapia, and a great we never really got to see his full potential was Salvador Sanchez.
I’d never actually seen any replay of the Duran/Barkley fight before. I’d heard a little about it over the years.. but I think that was the most epic thing I’ve ever seen. Iran Barkley( mid twenties) was very well rounded and talented, an intimidating physical specimen for his weight class. Even with it being Roberto Duran(38) (who, regardless of whatever the case may be, could always decide to show up), still.. on paper it should have been Barkley coming away with a KO. This was the general pre-fight consensus. It made you forget about “No mas” and everything else in the video previously leading up to this fight. What Duran did to put Barkley to the canvas after almost getting completely murked by him (that hit that staggered Duran backwards would have literally ended anyone else’s night ) was just.. incredible. I’m just speechless.
you know its crazy this is the only real what I would call Roberto Duran highlight... very uncovered fighter. thank you so much for doing this, incredible watch the first time round, I'm watching this again for the 2nd time. incredible fighter, incredible job by you.

When Tyson said, I wanted to be like Duran, that means... he's special. Tyson and Duran have the stare downs on point every time! You got me saying Boom, perfecr timing for anything good coming up. Thanks Joe Vincent!
They were both from the streets.
@@Whiterun_Gaurd Tyson loves pigeons and frosted flakes, Duran likes Ice cream and good parties. Both hit incredibly hard and their tenacity is equal. Yet, Duran will talk trash and beat you senseless. Tyson, his fists were his words. I love both of them and they were a good piece of childhood.
I knew of Duran in the 80’s and when I found out the terror he was in the 70’s my jaw dropped. He is with no doubt the best light weight ever.

Cab drivers and TOUGH guy competition fighter's c+ fighter a major hype job!!
@@Ooohh-v3i Exactly, he's worth the hype. One of the all time greats for sure
@@Ooohh-v3i and yet today he's undeniably considered the greatest light weight of all time, 50 years later, the fighter of the decade of the 70's, one of the 4 kings of boxing, and had the greatest fight ever recorded.

Duran hit so hard, Leonard thought someone else was in the ring with him. 'Hands of Stone' Panama's best and greatest Lightweight ever. Roberto
Duran. 🏆
I'd argue Panama's greatest boxer ever
Jesus is this stating the obvious or what? Almost litotes 😂
Let's not forget that his dad is of Mexican decent (Mexican American) from the state of Arizona.
@@JoseOrtiz-pz4iu Yes biological father. But apparently he ditched Roberto's mother while she was pregnant.
My favorite boxing story is Sugar ray leonard explaining that he had to push his teeth back forward every round against duran in the first fight
@Good Samaritan how are you gonna take Fauci seriously when he said Aids was airborne
Even made his daughter kiss him
I’ve been to Panama City. Down town is one of the most bustling, modern day looking cities, just like what you’d see almost anywhere else in the world. But if one were to pan the city skyline, they’d see gleaming office towers that would abruptly turn to some of the poorest slums. A city of “the have’s and the have nots
You know he was Mexican by his father
@@coreygolphenee9633 Fauci is the biggest criminal on earth.
Duran and Hagler are my top two favorites. I could name many more from that era that would be up there as well but those two stand out.
and he had to quit because of a car accident, otherwise, he might still be fighting.
My dad's favorite fighter my favorite fighter ever I am 45. He has passed when I was 26. Thank you for this
That combination from Duran against Barkley is one of the greatest examples of boxing i’ve ever seen.
I laughed, I cried, I questioned everything.. and all before I even clicked the play button. Some of your finest work Mr. Vincent. Been waiting for this for a long time, well worth the wait.
You cappin. How you cry before the video😂

Just finished. That comeback against Barkley was f*cking insane! LEGEND!
Yeah he redeemed himself from "nomas" that night imo. If I was from Panama I would of been so proud that day. 👍
As a Panamanian and a boxing fan, you taking the time to make this excellent video means the world to me! Thank you!!
Agreed
The greatest fighter of all time in my opinion. Too many people place emphasis on his fabulous 4 series of bouts, what people don’t realise is that he was already the greatest lightweight of all time before those guys even fought each other!!! 72-1 !!
He was also a lot smaller. People always throw him to the side just because lost to the other 3.
Umm no. Was Gandhi an even better boxer? I think he did some light sparring
What about foreman?

Almost 40 now but as a teen
I couldn't articulate what or why it was happening as a young man but I knew I was so frustrated and eventually disgusted certain fights wouldn't be made due to rival television brands and companies.
Was lucky enough to see him beat Iran the Blade Barkley in February of 1989, for me it was his final masterpiece in a long HOF career.
That was one of the greatest fights I've ever seen.
Love the respect to Duran's name. So many just remember him losing, but he should be remembered as someone who always came to fight
remember him losing? Only the Ray fans, Duran fans know his history, Ray is just a blip.
@@blite13 Boxing is full of casuals. They don't know anything about how tough Duran was
leonard getting a rematch that soon after the first fight is ridiculous but that's what he did: get unfair advantages based on his celebrity. i wish duran had beat leonard in the second fight too.
Kind of like Hearns's shoulder proportions and the power he generated.
Duran could throw with power from any angle, he had incredible balance.
A bloody legend, in every sense of the term...👊👊
Excellent video. Duran was the best lightweight ever. I was at that fight in A.C. when Duran beat Barkley. I’d say about 80% of the crowd was for Duran.
as a lightweight, he was peerless -.-
Literally walking from school and i see this. God bless you made my day better
@Black Iron Tarkus That’s not a loss to be ashamed of tbh
@Black Iron Tarkus
Yeah well in lightweight he was unbeatable, hearns reach was just too much
@Black Iron Tarkus ok, I can’t lie…hearns definitely had his way that night.
@Black Iron Tarkus LOL Hitman sent him to the next dimension.
Duran will always be in my top 5 in his prime.
Wow that combination against Barkley gave me chills. Simply awesome 👏🏼
Duran is under Sugar Ray Robinson for my vintage P4P list. Boxers who have been in more than 3 weight classes, you know that they're a real deal and a legend. One of the greatest.
He’s always been my favorite!!! Four championships in four different weight classes??? That’s insane!!! I didn’t know that, and I’m a big fan of his!!
Duran is abad man even at 71 I would run

A savage amongst savages. A warrior and a legend, of the highest order. ❤
Duran was my dads favourite boxer. He was the one who introduced me and my older bro into boxing and we love it. Loved seeing people transform into stars, even getting into the ring ourselves trying to hit like Duran. This man is a legend outside of boxing.

Roberto Duran is a legend and still love by everyone on this day what a great, fighter the hands of stone 🥊.
POUND FOR POUND, AT HIS PEAK, NO ONE ELSE WAS THIS GOOD. A TRUE WARRIOR !
2 weeks before the Tommy Hearns fight he was here in Miami drinking and partying hard on night clubs, where I met him. His wild outside of the ring life took a lot of his natural ability as a fighter.
He had those mean looking eyes that intimidated his opponents he was a natural bully thanks Jv for featuring Duran a boxing GOAT in his own rights
The hands of stone a monster in the ring. Had it all strength speed footwork iron jaw and defense. Couldn’t be beat on his best day. Great video hope you see one of Mexican legend and all time great Julio Cesar Chavez soon
Never liked Duran as a fighter because of the sugar ray incident, but after watching this you can’t help but be in awe.

(Fairly certain Hagler said that)
Duran, was at his very best in that fight and was a world beater.
Hagler definitely said that. Rest in piece to the Marvelous one, the Champ.
Wow great job this legendary fighter deserved nothing less.
Boom! Perfect timing. Duran is one of my favorite fighters ever. Like they said in the documentary, wins and losses were secondary to how great the fights were.
Thanks!
Roberto duran is in my opinion the best fighter in the world. I would love to see Duran vs Chavez. Sadly that fight never happened

Roberto Duran Greatest Lightweight to ever live!!!!!!!

Duran's style was the perfect style to counter the dancing/running BS style of boxing. No boxer can be called to have a perfect style in boxing but perhaps Roberto's style was the closest to the perfection. Artur Beterbiev also has a very similar fighting/mauling style like Roberto Duran.

@@swmita im only 15 but i wished i would have loved to see him and other legends fight in their primes on the most amazing arenas in the world, I hope 1 day ill become like them in the ring!
Best sport documentaries on youtube! Many try to copy him, but nobody brings it home like Joseph Vincent !
This is my favorite channel. This always puts a real smile on my face, this and Mr.Ballen never fail. Joe you are a blessing to me.
