  • Dental implants are marketed with the promise to change your smile and provide a new sense of self-confidence, but as implants surge in popularity, so do injuries. Last year alone, reports of problems with dental implants reached nearly a half million.

      I think 'dental' insurance should fall under 'medical'... no good reason especially when the industry/dental providers are geared towards 'crown$, veneer$, implants$$$... COLLABORATION is insisted upon, demanded in the health marketplace.. I have found useful 'dental' advice from my general practitioner, nutritionists, blood work labs, periodontists, etc. In the dental industry, as I would argue because to some extent of dental insurance, separate, independent... they never collaborate, only compete... and things like this happen, like the separate 'maude' databases that has NOW come to light, confusion amongst consumers, and myopic proprietary concerns from impetuous surgeries. Get rid of dental insurance...put dental hygenists in charge... collaborate with orthodontists and periodontists. Introduce your Dentist to your other Doctors, ... whether they like it or not. If they're not willing to collaborate, ditch 'em... crowns & veneers come and go

    What they didn’t mention is how common it is for the screw that fastens the tooth crown to the implant post to come loose and have to be retightened through your life. Just more of an inconvenience than anything, but with a small financial cost each time. Additionally the screw can only be retightened 2 to 3 times before it must be replaced in order to prevent possibility of the screw breaking.

    • @LKR-vt9uf
      @LKR-vt9uf 2 роки тому +9

      Screw is manufactured to be tightened once. The threads stretch under the torque into the implant body. 65% of dental implants have complications over time, including prosthetic and integration problems to the bone.

      @@Jacksonabean The way it was described to me by multiple doctors is that implants are put in to match the natural direction of the roots of your teeth. In my case it’s an angle that causes a cantilever effect with the tooth and the implant post. Over time the downward pressure of the opposing tooth loosens it.

    • @Jacksonabean
      @Jacksonabean 2 роки тому +3

      @@keningilbert You're exactly right Ken. If you have a cantilever from a long crown or bone loss (think vertical cantilever) then you can get screw loosening. Can you tell me the model of your dental implant if you care to? There are implants which we hand tighten and they never need tightening again. Those are implants with a deep conical, morse taper connection. The implants literally cold weld to the abutment in most cases but these aren't typical questions asked by the patient but things are changing. If you can, have them remove any contact that's not centered over the implant itself (very situation specific) or use some good ol' loctite. I've used brands in the past that this is common and now luckily, this doesn't exist in my office. Best of luck Ken and yes, implants should always be directed toward the opposing dentition which is the direction of force. Take care, JB.

    I have an implant supported denture. I had to wear a denture over the implants for 90 days post implant surgery and I think that made my implants integrate into my bone so well. My implants have never had to be tightened, I broke my denture and had to purchase a new one and they had to change the position of the abutment but the implants are a part of my bone. I think it could be a lot of the time the instant gratification, the placing of the implants and loading the implants with the weight of the teeth immediately that could be part of the problem. I do feel the fact that my implants were not loaded for 90 days is what made them become a part of me so well.

It cost $20,000 for the initial treatment but that did cover everything the implants, the dentures, & all the office visits. I got the money from a second mortgage on my house & it took 6 years to pay off the mortgage. I have had to save for cleanings & emergencies happen like cars breaking down etc, and that's why I have only had 2 cleanings in all these years. These dentist are profiting quadruple the amount, especially when the cost of implants range from 80 dollars to 300 per metal implant, and a small amount to have someone come in to perform sedation to these patients. It’s really sad how someone creates a procedure that can change your life, but make it so un-affordable for most because they can. There’s a clinic that uses recovering drug addiction patients to give doctors clinical training,that are paying 10 grand for this course. So, these patients don’t have a clue who is putting in implants while they are sedated. Most of the procedures are for implants for dentures, and these patients end up waiting over a year up to 18 months waiting for permanent dentures. I went for a consultation and it was to sketchy and they quoted me 11 grand for full mouth dental implants.

Please trust me on this, I have worked in this field for 10 years, early on I spent 3 of those years working for an egotistical general dentist who thought he could do it all. He went to one implant course and thought he was a master. Even after a 90% fail rate on all of his cases, he still kept the same smug attitude and kept placing implants and he is allowed to do that. No one got any money back because they signed the dotted line. Please do your research and only see those who specialize in the field, preferably someone who is recommended to you by a trusted source.

Recall a European/Scandinavian study that found comparable results between properly trained general dentists and specialists. Implants are a very lucrative procedure and it is possible some will place profit over attaining required competency first. Some outspoken dentists have even commented that an implant is just a piece of titanium and should not cost so much. Luckily there is strong competition coming from Israel and Europe offering fair realistic pricing and including zirconia.

They can do non surgical extractions too, but think more than twice about that you want an implant after rather than dentures or a bridge. General dentists shouldn't be allowed to offer things like invisalign or implants. They're in over their heads and doing it for the money. The dental implant procedure traumatized me. I have not felt comfortable since my oral surgeon if that's what he deserves to be called, put an implant in my #8 last month. I have been complaining about his lack of professionalism since and low and behold, today it fell out of my mouth (in tact). My "stitches" on implant site started to dissolved yesterday and this morning the implant fell out of my mouth. I am assuming the stitches were the only thing keeping the implant in my gum. It's Sunday so I have to wait a day to been seen. The company (24/7 operator) is not treating this as a dire emergency by any means. My mouth actually feels better. I don't think I was a good fit for an implant. I do envy people with two front teeth however. My goal now is to avoid paying more than what I put down for the deposit. I am holding the dentist partially responsible until I have the post surgery x-ray examined by a second party. Please let me know what you had to do after your implant fell out of your mouth. I sent a complaint to the California Dental Board and of course they sided with the dentist. He was culpable as well as Western Dental. I think Western Dental could be sued (class action) but it will take the right plaintiff and the right attorney. They sent my debt to collections and as far as I am concerned, they owe me $1500 deposit. The dentist(s) should not be able to say "your mouth rejected them" unless they did due diligence. In my case, they definitely did not. *I recommend a fake tooth that cost 10 bucks off of Amazon. It works for my missing #8. It fits better than my partial bridge did. Peace out.@@freetheworld12

    Legally this is the only credential that allows any dentist to call him or herself a board certified implant dentist.

My mom was too in infatuated and trusting of the psychopathic, blue eyed dentist to realize what he was doing. She still blames it on me, saying I didn't take care of my teeth. Yet I had a mouthful of symmetrical fillings, and two gold crowns in the back by the time I was 18. Thanks doc, you ruined my adulthood and did god knows what with that mouthful of metal you replaced perfectly good bone with.

    A major part of the problem is the Arizona Dental Board, whose salary is paid from dental license fees creating an immediate conflict of interest, even in the most egregious cases votes no harm. One Board member in the September/December meeting tapes when it was suggested a license be suspended objected "now wait, these our our friends and colleagues." The mission is to protect the public. The Board should be honest about their mission or forced to do their jobs. Enforcement is not a priority with the administration. This is the across the board story to talk about. There is no redress for those you are exposing were hurt.

      It is metal sensitivity that ruined her health. I saw a report about her long time ago. The before and after pictures are very striking. While the metal implant is called titanium but most are alloy with many types of metals inside. These all on 4 and all on 6 implants are risky and involve long term maintenance that is very expensive and troublesome. Of course, there is no good alternative. Denture doesn't work as well as implants in chewing efficiency.

    I do not get how people use malpractice as a reason not to get implants.
    There are many success stories. But you need to see a specialist, not some dentists that seldomly practices to implant or lack the proper education. The standard US dental education does not include enough information or practice to implant. This is something the doctor has to learn separately.

    Very conflicting from the other dental implant video you posted. There are such things as early loss and late losses in dental implants which are required to be reported to the FDA. Early loss are almost always an injury and late losses could result in an injury as well. The 2% of device malfunctions is very different from the figure you posted in the last video, claiming 88% of dental implants fail. With a 2% device malfunction rate, longitudinally that just wouldn't make sense. Also, unless it's an injury, that wouldn't be an adverse event! It's very common (1/20) for patients to have SDR (Same day removals) for the implant which is misleading if you don't say that because it suggests it could just randomly fall out at any given time. Simply not true and disingenuous reporting.
