Not every dentist is as bad as this woman's dentist, but I do agree with you that sometimes less is actually better (a blessing, if you will).
I know people who had implants done in their 70s, and this was 25 years ago, and they took just fine. However, they also didn't have 21 teeth pulled, only the 6-8 that needed actual implants (and it was 6 months of soft foods until those gums healed, before they could eat regular food again). That's something else to consider.

@@le_th_ That doesn't happen with implants. Because the dentures are not actually touching the gums. So you can eat whatever you want as soon as they are in. I know, I have them.

I read that Dick Van Dyke was one of the early recipients of dental implants, and that he suffered ill health for years before he figured out what was causing it....it was the implants. He said that after he had them removed his health returned, and he regretted all of those years he had suffered.

@@LisaGiesler Wow. I just researched Dick van Dyke and this is what I found: For seven years, actor Dick Van Dyke suffered with pounding headaches, chronic fatigue, insomnia, and neurological symptoms. Doctors were at a loss; an MRI, a spinal tap, and other tests were all normal. Van Dyke finally resorted to a plea on Twitter: “‘ ‘Anyone got any ideas?’ “. It turned out that dental implants that replaced missing teeth were causing his symptoms.
      Thanks for the tip.

Many dentists and dental franchises are unethical in recommend procedures that are unnecessary. Just to either raise the bill for tests, and insurance claims. I decided to try out the local resident dental clinic and they were able to do what I wanted done WITHOUT implants. Plus the attending reassured me my root canal tooth was fine. Since I only now go to student/resident clinics. My current orthodontist treatment is through a resident clinic and I have had any issues. I have trouble trusting dentists. I too have been talked into things and realized in the end that those things have caused problems that wouldn’t exist had I just not done anything. I think of dentists in the same way as I do auto mechanics. It’s so important to chose a dentist with care. If i could go back and make different decisions, I would. As of today, I have no dentist and only go for regular teeth cleaning with a hygienist.
I felt so bad for Ginger having to suffer for so long because of someone’s greed. Please, everybody be less trusting of doctors, dentists and car mechanics too.

I can tell my sad story about implants.
I got my first 2 titanium implants 2010 in my lawer jaw. Couple months later they have been removed because of inflammation. I had for around 2 years facial pains, some teeth have been removed. Then the colleague of the dentist said at first we need to calm down your facual pains before doing anything. I got for six months twice in a week shots in my gums to calm down the nervs. Finally my face stopped hurting. Then the surgeon did bone grafting and after healing inserted 3 ceramic implants in my lawer jaw, and one in my upper jaw in 2011. Both the screws and the crown have been ceramic. My bidy accepted the implants, however couple times in the year I had inflammations around the crowns, got every time antibiotic shots and coild deal with them for 11 years. Unfortunately, 2022 one crown came down because of inflammation in my upper jaw, the jaw bone was reduced, then the inflammation was also in my lawer jaw around the implants, that means I had periimplantitis. The surgeon tried to clean it, was unsuccessful. At the end after 3 surgeries all my implants have been removed and I lost also a lot of jaw bone plus incredible pains. Now, the pains are almost gone after 2 months. However, I can not even get dentures, because they will not fit since my jaw bone is so reduced. One dentist told me that even my jaw bone could brake. Now, I will go to a university hospital to get consulting if probably a jaw bone graft can be done or not to get partial dentures, and I am in my 30😔.
I mean, implants may work for many people but for my it was a horrible time period and it is not done yet.
If you can keep your teeth, do anything possible to keep them. If not, have a lot of consulting before making the decision for implants.

I have 7 implants, since 2017, and though I've had no real problems, if I had known that they were such HIGH MAINTENANCE, I never would have gotten them. You have to wear a nightguard nightly, floss/thread after every meal, use an electric toothbrush and also a waterpik for at least 2 minutes 2-3 times daily and cleanings are 3-4times per year, instead of twice per year. Also if one gets loose, you have to have the implant screw tightened and MOST of all, make sure that you don't get any infection or inflammation around the implant. Yes, they do look great and I don't have anything to remove at night (partial bridges, etc.), but I'm sorry that I got the implants just for the high maintenance alone!! Seriously a huge responsibility and pain in the ASS.

Dentist here. This is just keeping good oral hygiene. The waterpik 2-3 times daily might be a bit of overkill, but this actually isn't high maintenance at all. Flossing after every meal and tooth brushing is basic oral hygiene. 3-4 cleanings a year is likely because of periodontitis to prevent further bone loss.
Unfortunately people see maintaining their oral hygiene as a lot of work, leading to problems.
Sorry it feels like high maintenance, but actually you are following a basic hygiene routine. The only extra thing here is the waterpik I think You seem to be sticking to it though. That's what's most important, I hope you continue 👍🏾

Because your immune system is already compromised. I was told even a root canal could cause issues. So forget implants. Pull the damn tooth and get a partial or go without. Better than another disease. I’d rather be toothless. But I deal with many AI’s. Started with Hashimotos, then others. My worst is Ankylosing Spondylitis. If you have one you have odds of another. The younger you are the greater your odds are.

@@lisaraper8053 it’s crazy how many people (women in particular) I’ve encountered with multiple autoimmune diseases. My rheumatologist thinks I have lupus now too. I have hypothyroidism which just developed a couple years ago & I wonder if it’s actually hashimoto’s. My neurologist is the only good doctor I have. His mother had MS & died from complications so he’s got “skin in the game” and truly cares about his patients. Most doctors don’t seem to care much. It takes forever to get into new specialists, there’s only one endocrinologist within 150 miles of where I live, and I don’t even bother seeing a general practitioner because they’re useless. I’ve literally been told to “pray” as a treatment method. REALLY!? THATS YOUR GENIUS PROFESSIONAL OPINION? YOU THINK I DONT PRAY ALREADY!?!
These doctors have no clue what it’s like. I really wish there was a way they could walk in our shoes for a week. They’d be a hell of a lot more compassionate & dedicated to getting accurate & early diagnoses. I have a a “black spot” in my right frontal lobe from lesions I had for 15 years, never once having steroids to curb a flare up or even knowing that I was having flare ups, forcing myself through life because I didn’t want people to think I was lazy or a hypochondriac. Over the years I saw different doctors & they always gave me the same thing - antidepressants. Told me to quit smoking, get more sleep, exercise, eat healthier etc. etc. I’d lose massive amounts of weight in short time spans, then slowly gain it back to “normal,” then I’d get sick and the cycle started again. I didn’t have my period for 2 years in my mid 30’s.
I’m lucky I’m actually improving and stable now. Im very lucky I had long term disability insurance & made a good salary when I was finally diagnosed. I can’t work but the disability is plenty & thankfully I don’t have to rely on SSD. I can focus on raising my kids & I’m so grateful for that. But there’s so many physical manifestations of these “invisible illnesses,” they take so long to treat, and even little things that seem minor can suddenly spiral into a crisis. My teeth are getting to that point. I’d been.m saving for implants but fuck it. I have no doubt my body would reject them. I’ll either do crowns or dentures or whatever. I’ll decide after I get at least 3 opinions.

I went to an oral surgeon who told me that yes I could have them removed but he advised against it and told me it wasn’t necessary and also emphasized that my lip had a 30-40% chance of becoming partially numb due to the removal. You don't have 6 wisdom teeth, these are the third molars and you have exactly 4 of them. If you have no problems as a result of them being impacted, then well and good. Personally they partially erupted leaving a hole in the gum that was not properly sealed since the part of the tooth that has that function was not exposed. This can and did get frequently infected so that the gum swells and you can't close your jaw on that side. If you don't get this then ignore it for sure.

This case was extremely rare Usually people who have extras only have 1 or two. Often they aren’t removed because they are far from erupting and causing problems. People can also have less than 4 wisdom teeth. They’re the most common to be missing in the mouth.

The dentist literally named so much shit, it sounded like a damn down payment for a home! This man said I need to go to the ortho, get a cat scan, go to an oral surgeon , get wisdom teeth pulled to “create” more room for implants, saying that the space is to wide on each side for a bridge and it will fail... blah blah blah. The dentist literally told me it could take 2 years to fix everything. Mind you I’m only missing two teeth on each side! After reading these comments & looking at this video, I think it’s the universe telling me to fix the problems I have “of course” but not the way this particular dentist wants me to! @@zenfan1098 I understand what your point is. The point I'm making is that some kids are born to people who should never have had them in the first place. These are people who don't care about their children. They have them without thought for their needs, their well-being, etc. Some of these parents even homeschool their kids to keep them from the public school system where they (the parents) can be reported for neglect, abuse....or worse.
Sadly, too many kids are born to "adults" who may be physically mature....and able to procreate....but are so developmentally arrested, toxic, abusive, neglectful, and/or even sadistic, that the young person will never have a toothbrush, much less know that they need to be brushing their teeth or using thread to floss them.
Most of these people will never end up in a dental office.
I'm very fortunate to NOT be one of those kids, but there are adults out there....some even working full time with dental coverage....who will never send their child to a dentist, even when the child shows their parent a huge, gaping hole in their tooth.
Not every child is born to a parent who is capable of empathy, much less capable of genuinely loving them, and there are MANY more of these parents then most people are aware.
There is a VERY good reason why our prisons are overcrowded....why some people become so easily addicted to things like drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex and/or porn. These are people who had narcissistic parents, borderline parents, histrionic parents, sociopathic parents, or a parent(s) who are mentally ill (which is different that having an actual character disorder like a narcissist).
Little ones born to character disordered parents had no say in the matter....and many of them (not all) will pay for having been born to a neglectful, abusive, or indifferent parent(s) until the day they die.
If a child is raised without ever having a bed, food on the table, or a toothbrush, they're very likely going to have serious dental health issues throughout their life, and having a spool of thread is the least of their concerns.

I still think there is more to this story than is being told. It’s informative but it also shows how uninformed and gullible people are to allow a procedure to be done without fully checking it out first, checking with insurance etc. As adults, a lot of the responsibilities lie on us. Yes we should trust our doctors but we are the final day in what happens to us.

This must be a thing. I have encountered three dentists in the past 30 years who encouraged a lot of expensive work that I rejected b/c of the cost, and then later when seen by other dentists, I learned I didn't need that work. I personally do not place implants, so I tend to be pretty conservative, I may have suggested a pair of partial dentures for that side -- not the full implant supported dentures she got, or maybe just a couple of implants to regain function on the left side (that would be the radiographs on the right side of the full mouth they were holding up in the story). We usually read x-rays based on the patient's right or left, not our own. On the other hand, if she wasn't having any problems with the missing teeth, I would have just filled the cavity and let her go.

I can relate.. first I had bridges which were supposed to be porcelain wrapped .. dentist Dr Jack Penny , St. Petersburg Beach knew my history of allergies sensitivities. He blatantly ignored.. saying after the work was done, ‘it’s only 2% of the population. Wrong.. that percentage is a lot higher., and does this mean the welfare of that 2% doesn’t count? 🧐🤨 I had Clifford Blood Test done identifying what dental materials I could tolerate and Dr Jack Penny did not tear summary of results or if he did he totally ignored the results. The bridges with heavy with metals inside walls of full mouth upper and lower bridges. I ended up so ill and had to have all teeth removed. Next I go to get lower implants bringing documented medical history and Clifford Results. Dr Tadros - Dental Implant Solutionz largo Florida was outright deceptive telling me he could work with my results using a titanium alloy in alignment with Clifford Test results . He never sent lab results to Lab or checked with Distributer or manufacturer titanium alloy contents. I requested the MSDS Sheets (specs of implant alloyed materials) After months of trying to obtain this info I finally succeeded. It was not easy but I knew by Law FDA is required to provide this info to any consumer. I was allergic to the nickel and aluminum. An Allergist, a Professor at USF put in writing I was allergic and needed to have implants removed. I couldn’t get a private practice Oral Surgeon to remove implants.. literally my skin tissues (inside mouth and progressed through to outer skin- were burning up.. disintegrating. Finally - 2nd week of COVID lockdown an Oral Surgeon at Aspen Dental had the decency and compassion to remove implants. My entire facial form has changed - my health rapidly declined in these 4 years. I’m just now getting clear of the metal toxicity at blood levels. It is past time the put an end to the criminal and corrupt dental profession driven by greed and hard - heartedness. Evil run a muck . Nearly $50 and no retribution. The majority of FDA and AMA (Attorneys also).. sold out to evil and not here for Our Well Being. I could never find an attorney to take my case. I have Faith.. ‘The meek shall know inherent the earth.’

I’m missing the molar next from the last on the other side, gone for decades, and nothing has loosened, drifted, or fallen out. I don’t want metal screws drilled into my jawbone! So long as I look reasonable and can eat most foods, I’m satisfied. I don’t mind cutting up my apples or my corn off the cob. Keep things simple. I’ve been sensitive to nickel in pierced earrings. I have problems needing dental attention and the lower jaw needs either implants or a denture. I've yet to find a dentist that will give me the denture. My most recent dentist visit the doctor recommended the metal test noted in the video. He said that only ceramic implants should be considered. They aren't cheaper at all and only a few dentists do them. I visited the dentist he recommended who could do them and was way beyond distressed at the price tag of $60,000 for the entire mouth. I know living in the high cost of living area of metropolitan Washington DC will have some impact on what a professional must charge. That really blew me away though. And, BTW, this would have been done under only local anesthesia; in other words, you're not asleep as would be typical of say removing all the wisdom teeth.
With no help from insurance and the only help offered was a loan, there's no place for me to turn because the monthly repayment rate would be crushing (I looked up what it would be). Good thing I like oatmeal and soup. Don't have to be rich to like those.

I am a recently retired R.N. and relocated to a state known for having an epidemic dental scam issue. Just this past week I had an appointment with a new dentist. Having had a great former dentist and periodontist which I thank both for saving my teeth following a rapidly developing periodontal disease that came about after having a hysterectomy 18 years ago for uterine cancer which I could not take hormone replacement following and as a result began to loose bone which included in my mouth.Today my teeth and gums are not perfect and it has been a team effort to keep my periodontal disease from progressing which includes my own impeccable dental hygiene. And obviously this approach has worked as I still have most of my teeth and have had very few dental issues since my diagnosis of periodontal disease 18 years ago. I was hoping for the best with this new dentist but this would not be my outcome. After taking a boat load of x-rays which I just had done before I relocated by my former dentist and they were forwarded to this new dentist she also demanded the hygienist do a pocket probe. After that the dentist came in and did a quick exam of my mouth and then tells me in rapid fire I need to have all my upper teeth pulled and replaced by a snap in over implant denture, and 4 bottom teeth pulled and replaced by a bridge at the cost of $38k. And interestingly, this dentist even before presenting me plan immediately following her exam had already had the office contact my dental insurance to see what they would cover and because it is a good plan and the amount was 1/2 the cost of the work. Wonder if I did not have the coverage I do the plan would have been so elaborate ?? All I went there for was a routine cleaning, and nobody except my periodontist who performed laser periodontal surgery on me or another skilled in laser periodontal procedures does any type of deep cleaning on me which is the type of cleaning this new dentist wanted the hygenist to do.. The last thing I needed was this type of cleaning that despite my recession, my gums are pink and tight and attached to my teeth which a deep cleaning could do more harm than good on me because unlike laser periodontal procedures that reattaches gums deep cleanings do not. Had I not been through the issues and treatments I have had been diagnosed with and treated for by competent, ethical, and trustworthy dental providers I would likely not have picked up on the red flags of scam from this new dentist and high tailed out of there and instead very well could have ended up in a similar situation as this woman and others with similar issues. When I graduated nursing school which was likely many years before you were born I took an oath to above all do no harm and to be a patient advocate even if that meant calling out other nurses and doctors which I had to do on occasion if I witnessed their practice as being harmful to a patient that I took an oath to advocate for in behalf of their safety. If more providers had the courage to be patient advocates instead of turning a blind eye when they witness and do nothing about unsafe practices of colleagues then all healthcare including dentistry would improve just for the fact that patients would have less fear of being scammed and harmed and seek appropriate attention early on when less invasive procedures are needed to correct issues.

My daughter is highly allergic to Nickle. We found this out when she was young, when she got a massive contact infection on her tummy. We quickly realized she got it from the back of the snap on her pants. We had the snap removed and tested and it had high levels of Nickle. Here's where that whole 'having medical insurance' thing comes in. Everyone, as a child, should take a comprehensive allergen test. It would greatly benefit people to have that work-up within their records, so they can be cross-referenced before any type of implantation.

Slightly off topic I know...but nickle plated bits caused allergies for horses. Now days nickle bits are nearly all replaced by stainless steel. I am allergic to titanium, I had titanium removed and instantly felt better in recovery room after surgery.

They need to do allergy tests on people of all the thing's the implant has in it. Especially nickel

That's a good idea overall, just give the patient an idea of what they could be allergic to, for future reference.

Thank you for researching this... I was considering implants (when I hit the lottery, that is). Now I know I'm probably better off without having screws dug into my sensitive gums. Perhaps in years to come the process will become much better with research, new processes and standards.

something else to be aware of when considering implants on the lower jaw - something I have not heard anyone else mention is MANDIBULAR NERVE DAMAGE. My awesome dentist Dr. Chilton (Olympic View Dental) warned me that it is possible this could occur with implants placed in the back molar area (which freaked me out) so with his information I proceeded with two normal sized implants close to the canine teeth area for a snap on bottom denture. Thankfully I have had no issues with the implants in the last 15 years. If you are in the Seattle area I definitely recommend him - he will give you factual, honest advice.
