Full Day of Fall Tillage

  • Опубліковано 12 лис 2021
  • Now that Harvest is over I'm trying to get the Corn on Corn ground worked to helps residue break-down faster and get the wet bottom ground filtrated. I rented neighbors, 2700 disk ripper, to do a 1 pass fall tillage. Looking back it probably would have been better to hit the stalks with a stalk chopper to break them down a bit before hitting them with a ripper. We'll see how it turned out this spring tho.
Neighbor, helped get the water and electric line trenched. We had to cross over the waterline with the electric line and ended up barely hitting the waterline that we just installed. Was a pretty quick fix tho.

Don't lug that engine. Let her scream. Do you have weights on the inside wheels? If not that is where you should have put those. That weight on the outside wheels puts a lot more strain on the outer axle. Always try and keep the weight as close to center as you can or evenly distributed between both wheels. Hope this helps.

The freeze thaw cycles you'll go thru this winter will soften those clods and they'll break up much easier n nicer in the spring compared with deep ripping / primary tillage in the spring. Other than anhydrous pricing going up between now n spring, highly recommend applying early spring vs now. Less potential for it to leech away before next year's corn crop needs it.

Sell your tractor you have and get a older version of a 9r490(late 90's/early 00's) and then buy a older version of the 6r with loader to pull grain carts and if expand can bail corn stalks and loader will help a ton and will always be on farm unlike skid steer! Don't worry about newest equipment as you better off having older equipment that's right for the job then a 1 newer tractor that's in-between both! But your farm so do as you please! Love the vids

That tractor is under hp for that ripper. Even with a 300 hp tractor in wet conditions with that ripper you will spin . We run a case 870 ripper on a 580 quadtrac that is tuned to 680 hp and it spins even with it weighted down . You could try to till shallower at maybe 8 inches but even then that tractor is better suited for planting and graincart. Great video keep up the good work!

With fall tillage your better off with the clods, that way its less likely to erode and the wind won't blow top soil away. Over the winter the clods of dirt will break down. Now if you were doing tillage in the spring to turn under the fodder, then you don't want clods, and want the ground more level.
Really doing fall tillage when its wet, your really doing more harm than good when it comes to compaction. I'm not a big no-till guy, but I'd rather do no fall tillage than to do it when its too wet.
I personally would wait till spring to put anhydrous on, but go ahead and pre pay it now, because it will be much higher most likely this spring. R. Some guys don't like applying anhydrous in the fall due to the fear of leaching, but once the temps col off you don't need to worry about leaching putting gas on in the fall. I've done it all 3 ways, and its more just preference really, but I do prefer doing it in the spring pre plant.

I would go up with the ripper set it to like 7 or 8 inches and go in 7th gear and set the maximum rpm to about 2000 that way you’re not working the tractor so hard Because that ripper is a lot of load for that and with that wet spot wait till it freezes and then try to go in there with the ripper and if you put in hydrous on your ripped ground it should break up the clumps some and in the spring take the cultivator out there and level everything off that’s what I would do

On the wet sections dont worry about gettting 100% sometimes just 1 rip through and let it drain (like using it as a ditch) will do enough to let you come back in a couple days to let you get the rest. Also we try to pay attention to those area and rip in the way that would let the water flow away vs going across it and creating more "dams" to stop the flow.

Spread p&k in fall when possible Both are relatively immobile in the soil unlike nitrogen which will be lost by spring. P&k also takes 30-60 days to break down and be useable so putting in the fall makes it more available in the spring. Also takes away some of the hustle in the spring time. Be sure to ask for TSP vs. DAP because you don’t need the nitrogen that DAP has in it.

You may be able to get the gps radar from your satellites if u have the universal harness fitted (big harness with heaps of wires Pf80802 is part of it). There is a heap of connectors under the dash, probably under the scv control panel..there should be three single wire connector where a heap of others are at the end of the loom. One says radar and the others ground (probably already connected) and gps. Unplug the ground fit the go’s one. You will have to configure the 2630 screen performance monitor section to gps.
This should work but there are lots of variables on which cables it’s been fitted with and whether machine info is going into the loom as well (ie fuel usage, acres per hour, etc) to come out on the 2630.

Find a good used 26ft case 330 turbo and get a inline ripper with colters for your bean ground rip in the fall or not at all turbo your cornstalks 3” deep.. only rip as deep as you need use a soil probe find your hard pan and then go 2” Deeper to mix it any deeper and your just burning fuel and not gaining anything… if your hard pan is 15” let er bump spend time elsewhere
