Take a full ride on the Matterhorn Bobsleds as Disneyland debuts the new Abominable Snowman effects and animatronics for 2015 during the 60th anniversary celebration. This vieo takes a ride on the right side of the attraction.
Anyone here from unhhhh?
To people complaining about the new roar, I will admit, I miss the old roar. It was more iconic. But trust me, for those who haven't been on it yet, the yeti itself is 10x scarier. The old one looked like a stationary prop just standing in his little corner, which it was. His body just twisted a little bit at the waist. The new one, the whole body moves, waist, chest, arms, hands, neck, face, lips, eyes. And he looks like he is climbing out of a hole and is about to jump out onto the track and start chasing you.
It was a change to adapt to the new times. Disney does this all the time, the yeti was iconic but aged on this ride so the target is for the new generation, not the old that will miss the classic feel of this ride.
Zac Lynch it's better when you actually go on it
I went on the Matterhorn and it is true. Harold is scary
I felt the old Yeti was scary in the 1990s when I was a kid, but the new effect makes it really feel like he is coming after you. It's more intense.
Nicole Jarel I
Could you guys chill about the roar?? We have these awesome new effects and AA's and all you can focus on is how the roar is different?
Anthony Fins Agreed. It's like watching Batman 89 and only thinking about how stupid it is he can't move his neck in the costume.
I mean, if one roar is better, it is easy enough to change the audio.
@@grantkelly8696 Not really because Batman '89 gets a pass for being older, whereas this Yeti is new.
My best friend went to disneyland in 94 when he was a little kid. They saw Michael Jackson while waiting in line for a ride.... Only Michael got to skip ahead of everyone in the line hahaha
That's awesome 😂
David Russell nununuzsdrgsgzdfsdfdddfdfrdrgdfgtfxhghfxghgfgtfxgtdgtdgxrxtgrdgsrfrsefsefesdesdeaedasdeafesfrgseEfsefrsgfgthbolvff,Val,o,o
David Russell cool and Osama
U know who I wanna see at Disney
SHAWN MENDES AND CAMILA = shawnmila
Yeah mhm i don't believe you liar
I really like how in the first scene (after the hill) you see crashed bobsleds (and what looks like an old gondola from the Skyway)! It adds a whole other level within the ride!
BCBoy98 Wish they could bring that old ride back. Oh well.
That actually is gondola from skyway Disney tends to recycle such items
BCBoy98 Yes! I love when Disney does little things like that :D
To everyone complaining about the new changes... It could be Frozen!
iMélange Entertainment don't even mention it, the Disney execs might hear you!
I'll stop complaining now 😂
iMélange Entertainment Right?? That could be a giant Olaf instead of a giant Yeti....
***** Ugh. There's already too much Frozen in the parks. It's time for Frozen to thaw out.
*****
Oh, I misread your comment. hahaha. My bad.
I remember years ago, when riding this ride, if you so much as blinked, you missed the abominable snowman. Now, they've made it impossible to miss him. They almost browbeat you with him, in fact.
Bogmire42 Because he looks freaking amazing.
FYI: the original Audio Animatronic of the Abominable Snowman is on display at the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout attraction at Disney’s California Adventure at Disneyland Resort in California.
"Remain seated please. Cinnamon Toast and tacos, pour some more. "
JeNeSaisQuoi Jones Please lay me seven tacos on the floor.
Yassssssss! 🙌
JeNeSaisQuoi Jones lol i feel like i'm laughing WAY to hard
JayDeeBeat 🙌
JeNeSaisQuoi Jones lmao this had me dying man
I miss the iconic roar of the original yetis. Rather than the weird guttural sound.
You can still hear the original under the new one
Agree! This one sounds more like Springtrap from FNAF 3 than anything else!
Colorado NerdHerd go away. We don't need people like you here
At least the new animatronic more than makes up for it.
Gadget Freehan What's wrong with what Colorado NerdHerd said? The yeti does sound like Springtrap now. You can indeed hear the original roar underneath the new sound effects, but overall it doesn't sound quite as good.
This ride looks like it beats the living hell out of you...
+Kyoko Kosplay! This ride beats the crap out of you! I really wish they would add some padding to the bobsleds.
+Kyoko Kosplay! It dose. This is like a ride i went on once and only once lol!
+cutielamerr they have added padding i just went this passed monday
By the time I got off the ride my back was hurting by hitting it on the bumps 😒
bo deflop I just rode it with the new padding, its so much better now!
Lol I can't believe I used to think this was fast
CuriouslyAshley The trains seemed to be mostly empty due to the limited previews it had today.
With train full of large adults, it actually does get some good speed behind it.
CuriouslyAshley Also this is the slower side, the other side is the faster one. So you have on the other one.
CuriouslyAshley Rides sometimes seem faster than they actually are when you're on them, because of all the external stimuli of physically being there and feeling everything. In the same way, motion may feel slower than it really is on video, especially in first-person perspective like this.
CuriouslyAshley True, but that makes it a great kiddie coaster.
They actually had to slower the ride when they made one person go in each seat due to the fact that young children can get hurt by going to fast without an adult to hold them. It use to be fast, but now it medium speed and very jerky.
Man, I am NOT ok with that roar.
Expedition Everest is a way better ride!!!
Austin Smith And to be honest, that new roar wasn't quite so scary.
Austin Smith I miss the old one! It was so haunting
***** Especially at night! I wasn't expecting it D:

I wouldn’t go on this ride for years because I was terrified of fast rides, but after I finally worked up the courage to go on it, I couldn’t get enough of it! 😄 This ride is so much fun! I’m bummed out they got ride of the big crystals in the cave, but the mangled bobsleds and gondolas was a really cool idea for a replacement. Love the yeti animatronics, too! They’re much more lifelike than the original stationary prop looking yeti they had in there (who I believe has been moved to The Collector’s vault in Mission Breakout). Very fun ride, absolutely love it! 😄
seriously one of my fav Disney rides, it does break down a lot but it was one of the original rides at Disneyland, you gotta give it props
I feel that this roar might go away like the voice of Mara did in Indiana Jones after people complained that the voice wasn't the original they remembered when they updated the effects and changed the voice to a new recording...disney soon brought back the old Mara
Thomas Hayes Completely forgot about the Mara voice change!
Kyra Frantz Probably because it wasn't present for so long since quite a few people complained about it haha. The only reason I see as to why they maybe wouldn't change it back is because if you listen closely the original roar is laid under the new roar, so in a sense its "technically" still there.
The old one was more like a howl to me, like a werewolf.
Tesstessztgtgzh
Bonjour à vous. Il est en vacances . g
Scariest yeti since the one in Rudolph
This ride still remains one of my favorites!
Hello! If you would like a nostalgic ride through the Matterhorn Mountain, then just remember you are riding the very first tubular steel rollercoaster! Harold's new look and sound is ferocious and mature. With age comes change and that should be no different than for our beloved Harold the Abominable Snowman!
Runaway mine train is the first tubular track coaster at sixflags
Matterhorn is first in tubular steel rollercoasters
joshua boggs Runaway mine train is six flags first tubular track coaster, but Matterhorn is the first tubular track coaster ever. Mine Train opened in 1966, Matterhorn opened in 1959.
I remember riding this in the very front at 5 years old... now that i'm 18 I feel like I was probably just scared of everything..
I like it. I like that there is more or a story happening instead of just an aimless ride on a bobsled thru the Matterhorn. I like the idea of the Yeti chasing you. They need a better finale however with the yeti being defeated somehow. Maybe they could have shown the Yeti stuck in a pile of snow at the end like an mini avalanche fell onto him.
I've been on the Matterhorn quite a few times, but the last time I went to Disneyland (a few weeks ago) I went on the Matterhorn at night time. As usual I got in the front seat and waited for the ride to start right before the cave. So the ride starts, but for some reason it was going really fast. Like at least 2x its normal speed. It was obvious that something was wrong with the ride because it was going so fast that it actually hurt the way it jerked and slammed on every turn. Once it got to the water part it splashed really hard and I got soaked lol. After the ride I could barely walk and I lost my voice from screaming. Needless to say it was crazy, but also really fun and I kind've wish that the ride was like that every time. I went on again right after that but the ride was back to its normal speed?
Same for me too! We went last week and I knew something was off because it was literally jerking me around to the point where I thought I might hit my head on something. I recorded it and plan to upload it soon but have to put music over all of the screaming I was doing!
oh... so it wasn't supposed to do that...
I don't think so, check out the video i put up when i was there.... i thought i was going to bump my head or get whip flash lol
I think some of the rides speed up at night time. Because space mountain and big thunder mountain are a lot faster too.
HannahPanda36 agreed!
I hate the new roar. Sounds like he's constipated. Plus I can't believe they removed the Frank Wells memorial!!! For those that don't know, he was the past President of Disney that died in a helicopter crash. He was an avid mountain climber and the Disney Imagineers displayed a camp site where the crystals used to be with a box marked "Wells Expediation" as a memorial.
It's actually much louder and scarier in person. I screamed lol
Elizabeth Schiada I agree. I'd recorded the ride, along with a lot of other stuff, and when I was editing the videos, I actually scared myself because it was so loud!
To me it sounds more like he's vomitting
+Christopher Tang LOL
+Jennifer Garcia Supposedly the crate was simply being restored and will return somewhere in the ride.
Been on this a million times! It's one of my favorites! I like the new changes!
aw man, was just at Disneyland, didn't go on this ride mainly since I'm terrified of huge drops. Looks like it would've been fun.
Same. I HATE drops.
The drop isn't even that bad..Now, if we're talking Splash Mountain, yeah stay away.
Yeahh the first time I went on splash mountain, I was only 5 and I almost shit myself after the first drop bc just that one was steep. LOL
Matterhorn doesn't have too many drops, it's just bumpy and makes your butt sore. 😂
+TheLunarLegend It's not scary. It goes by really quickly and there's not many drops, and the drops aren't that huge.
Did anyone else notice the destroyed skyway buckets?
ye
i went on this as a child i hhave not recovered since
I sure do miss the old roomy two seat Bobsled. I wish Disney would have both and let the guest choose. The three seats is just too cramped.
Expedition Matterhorn: Revenge of the Yeti
What I luv about POV is that I feel like I'm actually there
Thanks for putting up both sides!
I never been on Matterhorn before, because either I was too short, or it was down when I was there. Hopefully, I get to ride it when I go there again! :D
gotta love the matterhorny bobsleds!
Thank you for sharing with us!!
looks much better than the original version! This one looks scarier
I remember doing this as a kid and my mom telling me this would be a peaceful ride.. this was the #1 ride I was scared of as a kid
I wish they had this at Disney World cuz I'd love to ride this!
You guys have Expedition Everest, which is as good if not better :P
N05L31 Too bad they're stuck in disco yeti mode for who knows how long
N05L31 Disco Yeti isn't working.
***** fair point, but the ride itself is AT LEAST as good
FYI:The yeti's name is Shelby. The yeti is kind. She helped me and a friend with Autism.Btw,I'm also autistic.Shelby helped us stand up against bullies (our friends) and got cookies for us.
I remember that ride.... Man I really miss the good old days :(
I rode this in first in 1975 before the snowman BS and it was faster and scarier because you actually went inside the mountain and it was like a real rollercoaster.
such a fun ride good amount of soured and visuals, it's faster than appears in this video
i wish they did not change it, I liked the original 1959 version. Why would they change it?
Ugg Lee I think you mean 1978, because that's when all the caverns and animatronics were added. In 1959, the ride looked like this inside: www.yesterland.com/images-background/insidematterhorn_3.jpg
... Why do the Yeti growls sound so much like pirates?
This is my freaking favorite ride
I got on the ride last week, and i was a little scared hehe
looks great
I love this ride!! It was cool!! I rode it after hours once before leave the park with my family. It was scary but just as fun.
...oh schnitzel...
Omg yes the snowman looks awesome
Very fun ride!!!
This is a awesome ride
These videos are fun.
Hearing the roar going up really scared me even the second time when I was prepared for it.
That looks like so much fun!
dude the new Yeti looks so danm Sick going there next month
Dylan A the new one doesn't look scary at all to me.
+Carrol Collins It does in real life!
+Carrol Collins In real life, it's creepy.
At Least Kristen
In
this is my favorite ride. i love the yeti
They should have made the roar louder and scarier, especially in the last tunnel to make you jump
It is loud and it is scarier.
Not really, its just a couple of grunts. The original actually screamed.
It can be heard all the way from Mickey's Toontown and being on the actual attraction is way scarier than watching it through a UA-cam video :)
Audio has upgraded it was so loud. The snow wind was really scary and relaxing at the same time.
iMélange Entertainment That's good to hear, because it sounds awful in this video
I love this ride
Though I too hate the new roar, I love the new animatronics and the effects up the hill. The effect on the hill is terrifying to me for some reason.
this ride was cool when i went on it, it was so fun
Matter horns my favorite ride in Disney land 😂
For those complaining about the roar....it's actually better when you're on the ride. Actually, the ride is REALLY scary now
I used to work at this ride. My second favorite to working at Indiana Jones. Disneyland employee 2004-2007, highschool sucked but working here after class was awesome 😃
Awesome!!
Man the memories!!!
I like the new roar! It sounds more like a human type creature which is kinda what the yeti is supposed to resemble. Makes the myth feel a bit more realistic than it did with just a loud rooooar and some arm waving
The new enhancements look amazing! Can't wait to ride it when we go (this fall). Yeah, it looks really jerky, which will play havoc on this old guy's neck and back. But that's what the chiropractor is for! lol It will be worth it to see the updates. Thanks very much for posting this!
The. Abdominal. Snowman. Great.
ive been begging to go to disneyland for this ride, last time we went the line was PACKED!! i do hope ill be able to go back once this virus is all over. It looks AMAZING aside from a few jumpscares! i can not wait to go on that ride!!
IT'S BOBSLED TIME!!!!!!!!!!!
I just went to Disneyland like a week ago. I went on this 3 times. Nothing bothered me but that the roar of the yeti is so loud. Instead of putting my hand up I put them and my ears. I miss the old version
Aw! Went to Disneyland for spring break and Matterhorn wasn't open. Loving the lovely accent of the attendant tho.
sad that it's closing, but hopefully they will rebuild it. This is a good ride!
UGH. The left side is wayyy better. Thanks for showing this side but I prefer the right side because I feel like it goes way faster and there's harsher turns and a better dip. Great vid though (:
i went on this ride with my mom , grandpa, grandma, and my cousin all at the same time. When we got off, my grandpa kept saying funny things about the monster about how he jumped out and she kept doing impressions of him and it was the funniest thing ever
Oh look at that, a roller coaster with a working yeti! What a concept!!
i will say i miss when all the rides were more like this. i went in 2019 (to the hollywood themsed park, but still). i was a little disappointed how many rides were basically just watching screens.
It would be awesome to see a ride like this for Star Wars.
My back broke just from watching
If only the yeti on the Matterhorn moved like this...
Nice camera work. Good and steady.
the last time I rode this, I didn't know about the update. The new yeti scared the shit out of me lol it was a cool surprise
I'm glad i went in 2014.
Me: *on the ride enjoying myself*
Also me: *sees the yeti*
Me again: ITS THE ABDABMOMINABLE SLOWMAN
I like that water part
That second yeti always surprises me haha
I always close my eyes on this ride. Not cause of the ride itself, but because the Yeti scares the crap outta me when it’s right there and roaring like it does
I got to admit I'm not much of a fan of roller coasters but this is one I could go on more than one occasion lol
I went on this ride a couple years ago it’s scary actually
I went on this ride the other night and the Yeti scared the mess out of me. I was already screaming and screamed some more when he came out of nowhere two times.
When I went on this ride for the first time with my dad, I wasn’t ready for the upgrade that happened on Matterhorn bobsleds. Especially when it came to the abominable snowman ;-;
I like it
the yeti scared the shit outta me as a kid
This is one ride which is unique and exclusive to one Disneyland Park, another example is Aladdin's Magic Carpet which is only built in Magic Kingdom.
Is the ride still really rough or have they smoothed it out?
***** The Tomorrowland side is a bit smoother. The Fantasyland side is 3 seconds longer though.
Left side is rougher and more intense, right side is faster towards the end and smoother throughout
***** Left and right side? You mean Tomorrowland and Fantasyland side, right?
Ben Waldburger no he or she means the two entrances to the matterhorn
So then if I want to do a smooth ride through, the right/Fantasyland side is the best choice?
I feel like disney should make the matterhorn taller since its not so very high
The old roar was iconic, and a background noise heard throughout the park. Disneyland, not just the Matterhorn, will not be the same without it. I was hoping one of the yetis would retain the original roar for that purpose. The growl is fine, but not iconic, and it never will be.
I haven’t been on this ride in 5-6 years
I have always hated roller coasters. When I was 4, my family went to Disneyland. My parents thought that this was just a ride looking around a mountain. Nope! Turns out it was a terrifying roller coaster (or, at least for a 4 year old) and after I was terrified. Haven't gone on since
Ok why is nobody talking about the abominable snowman looking through the ice at the beginning? NIGHTMARE. FUUUUUEL.
