- Steve Albini explains "Fake Italian" and the many different ways to use the language.
This interview was filmed for a documentary on Silkworm entitled, "Couldn't You Wait?" available at www.couldntyouwait.com February 2013.
I think that is the first time I have seen Albini smile.
He looks stoned. Or maybe its just me lol
mamma mia... rest in pepperoni, king
Peppperoni is fake italian indeed
Albini family was from northern Italy, here we don't often use pepperoni. Italy Is not only neaples or sicily
Btw pepperoni is not what an italian would think a pepperoni is
@@e.fontanot3809 ay pizza pasta linguinni mama mia baguette
@@lucafogliati6050I cooka da pizza!
When he says he's an engineer, not a producer, he really means it.
Ciao Steve, grazie di tutto. Ora insegna lassù il Fake Italian a tutti quanti
❤❤
Detto anche essere democristiani
i had a cuban friend and he had his own expressions, some of which id write down when i was 12 for fun.
one was "you are not a criminal but in your role you are" when discussing to my brother n sister in the trio band how to sing n perform hotel california. RIP Eliezer i'll never forget him 😢 i'd go back in time n get up early so i coulda visited the hospital
his way of speaking rubbed onto me, i even draw 'a's differently thanks to him. this video sounds like a funny joke but that stuff really can happen to you!
such a down to earth and relatable guy. the earth is a little bit colder today
But he would roast you if that was needed.
My heart, she-a hurt-a so much because-a you notta here with us-a no more 💔
🥹😭
Steve, I still can't believe you're gone. You've done an honest and fruitful job, especially for alt rock bands without a penny in their pockets. And to think that I wanted to write to thank you for everything, and in particular for this wonderful interview on 'Fake Italian', which is my favorite interview. RIP. I miss you a lot.
For less than the cost of a Big Mac, fries and a Coke, you can buy a loaf of fresh bread and some good cheese or roast beef, which you will enjoy much more.
AMEN
"good cheese or roast beef"
my philos. Costco over maccas / hungry jacks most days
World sucks more without Steve in it. Rest in peace, piss, or whatever would have made this man happiest.
He speaks about Agostino Tilotta of the band Uzeda
For as skilled a technician as he was, he also had a beautiful appreciation and grasp of the limitless nuances of language.
This is maybe the finest life advice I’ve heard in a while!
RIP KING
Damn bro. I had no idea he died. Responsible for recording some of my favorite albums growing up as a kid. RIP
I sure am enjoying all this old Albini stuff coming up lately. Always admired him and his work.
The world seems like an emptier place knowing that he's gone. I didn't know Steve really well, but I spent five days at his house in Chicago long ago to record, and I have to say he was kind and generous. His perceived public persona was often at odds with the real person. He was kind enough to take the time to teach me about various microphones, their placement and how to maintain a tape machine. That unsolicited knowledge has helped me a lot through the years His enthusiasm for music and good food was infectious. Condolences to family and friends.
Miss this king extra today. RIP Steve.
Heard the sad news that Steve Albini passed away at 61. RIP
This never gets old!!!
true. checking in many years later and it ages like a fine wine. at first it is maybe a little bit young and silly but with time it becomes more like a wise word you would hear from a your grandfather....
Albini should read kid's books. Such a nice voice.
wow steve really seems to come out of his shell here
Come out of his Shellac. AMMIRIGHT?!?!
@@conorm2524 brilliant
He is like a beautiful flower. He opens... I have seen a many flowers. I have not seen this one particular flower. He opens slowly, and I see finally what this flower looks like.
Thank you kindly, Steve.
The world is a better place with Steve Albini
now the world is a worst place
@@simpego81 Bro, we have Steve' huge, legendary legacy.
@@simpego81the world is a better place because of Steve Albini
Steve Albini's so articulate!
When he speaks fake Italian, he sounds like Dennis Christopher in "Breaking Away" B^D
And then when he goes back to his normal voice, he sounds kind of like Daniel Stern in the same movie!
I like that he sounds like an Assassin's Creed 2 character when he does the fake Italian voice.
I know a bunch of Italians, they are fake to the core, but i love most of them... it was so relatable to listen to this joy of a video, the stories you had to share...
Fake Italian Greyhound
no bro its a whippet.
Loved this.
Steve Albini is awesome. Enough said.
"It is so much money for the cost of the very large Mac cheeseburger, with the fried potatoes and cola drink, that for less money maybe you could purchase the just baked bread and plenty of delicious cheese, or maybe a very good beef roast, which is I think maybe more enjoyable for you when you eat it"
incredible stuff
Rest in peace Steve Albini 🖤🔥
Why the fuck steve hasnt won the nobel prize yet is beyond me.
god i miss him already....i can listen to him all day
That was awesome!
This guy is an amazing producer!
Not really a producer he is a engineer
@@ianmcgranaghan9888 wooosh.
@@mr.fingers but he Is, actually, a producer, too
Absolutely brilliant performance Mr Albini! 👏😂 riparadise
His with with the band Silkworm is just insanely great with Steve and also producer Heather Whinna. Listen to Silkworm. Firewater and Lifestyle are great albums to start with I guess. I love all of them
Such a fair point
brilliant!
Love this guy so mucha
Ifihadahifi and Fake Limbs opened for Belinni in Chicago, Agostino needs to borrow at guitar amp and decides he would like to borrow mine over Bryan's from FL. I have a old Traynor so it is close to what Agostino normally plays. Of course 5-6 songs in the amp blows, I am right in the front row hoping to deal with the issue. But "the amp she is not so swell, she, she needs a rest" as Bryan and I get his amp ready to go for the next few songs Agostino says to me
"when you get home maybe you should find yourself a new amp.... a good one"
I of course erupt in laughter having realized what just happened.
“rhinoceros can not play with a dolphin because rhinoceros, she will drown”
XD
we love ya, Steve Albini
I love this. Gonna use it 😂
We will miss you also for that, maestro
This Paesano needs his own TV Series 😁👍🏻
So fckin funny. Rest in power, superstar.
Gotta love that boilersuit....!
You will be missed.
Ci mancherai Steve!
This is the best revelation of a social hack in music since we learned about the purpose of "no brown M&Ms".
ah, fuck.... just teared up again. arrivederci, steve,
Sad to hear of your passing rest in peace ✌️
_That's one Spicy Meataballa! The Meataballa, she's so sweet, yet through no fault of her own, she is made from all the garbage parts of the cow- But because she is made from the most vile parts of the animal, she is somehow more sweet. Making the spiciness of the Meataballa more complex and beautiful. And though she is created from the foulest of the beef lips and peckers, her composition is that much more unique- Giving the spice room to be experienced on another level. The Meatballa, she is such a captivating balla. So round, yet also so bumpy; Resulting in a beef orb that is both captivating and deliciouso- Then there is the gravy... To describe her in words would be an insult to her!_
😐 😄
i knew this would be chaotic before opening 😂
holy crap, that's a lot of words to say "lightening up and having fun keeps the vibe alive".
Santa Maria, what a symphony of words just to whisper, 'to dance with the light and laugh, ah, it breathes life into the air!
he doesn't just say the thing he says maybe something else about life that brings you to the point where you hear the thing
RIP big black Albini
I just watched him say "Um". I fucking love him.
a Steve ma che stai a di!
That makes good sense
He reminds me of Dennis Christopher in "Breaking Away" B^D
I forgot that I'd even seen this before, and I said the same damn thing 7 years ago!
He did this interview in fake italian.I was helping the sound guy in a Silkworm gig in Rome with Uzeda's Agostino: he spoke so slow I almost falled asleep. In plain english he was boring.
he talk about Agostino of UZEDA??
yes
I like the points he brings up at the end of the video- fake accents really can make mundane things more interesting to talk about, etc. Granted, his Italian accent isn't the best, but that's not really the focus of the video (or that part of the Silkworm documentary for that matter). When you get down to it, It's all just for fun.
They really fuckin will! Like listen to how this guy talks about it and look at all these comments. It's truly remarkable.
This was funny. As a bilingual, I spoke fake italian a lot, didn't know it could be that infectious.
oh...and I forgot to mention the cinema...which is genius if you have the patience to watch the black and white movies from the fifties..and I don't mean only La Dolce Vita, or the Sofia Loren and Mastroianni movies..there are many more. The most recent ones would be the Roberto Benigni directed and played..absolutely wonderful..
GOLD
i will have to pass the video along to a linguistics prof...
Steve just summed up Jack Miller when he was racing for Ducati..... in fact when I heard he was moving to KTM I thought: "I wondering what his Australian Austrian German accent is going to sound like"
I like that he needed ESL to understand the concept of "being nice to people."
I’m pretty sure that was Father Guido Sarducci he was travelling with.
It's all Father Guido Sarducci.
All hail Don Novello.
And the oofo over the Vatican!
Having begun working with a few Italians this summer, with the effects of-a spring in-e full bloom; the sun, ah... she melting the icy shells grown over winter. This-a make both-e my English and-a Norwegian get-e the Fake Italian musicality to them when I'm at-a work. I can't help it and I'm sorry if I'm offending someone
@alucardisdumb care to elaborate?
Got a little close to "Fake Arabic" twards the end there. :P
these comments are all great
ok stupid question time but were Steve's parents or grandparents Italian?

Yes he is.
It would be the "record" button...
He should've done standup. RIP
As someone who grew up in the Midwest and has strong opinions, I think I may have become a Fake Italian.
