Showing all these options what you can do with this D.I.Box. A very complete tutorial and the best I found . I've seen channels with 200.000 subscribers not even half that good.. Thank you so much.
Thank you that means a lot!
One of my favorites videos on UA-cam!!! I'm always thinking in different ways to record the guitar signal into the computer
I have been searching for over a week and watched tons of videos. Thank god I found yours, it really explains everything that I was looking to od with my DI Box, thank you so much.
Very informative video, i have a passive DI, i will try this, thanks
Hi, congratulations for the video really well explained
and in a very simple way, the best solution I prefer
it's "head, DI box, cabinet" I had in mind to create something like this
I just don't want to get into trouble, I thought I'd put an attenuator
but I didn't quite understand where to put it, I thought I'd put it
between "DI box, attenuator, cabinet" so I could lower the cabin sound
and have the headphone sound of the head without any attenuator,
what do you think is right?
How can I have the computer record the DI while also using an amp in AmpliTube? You would think you can record the D.I. while playing instead of the post-amp sound.
Hmm I've read in a lot of places a DI box doesn't make a significant difference on interfaces with built in preamps, like the Behringer preamps. But I imagine with a decent enough DI box, there'd have to be an improvement. Are there semi affordable DI boxes worth getting for the UMC204hd? Are you just referring to the cloudlifter? I seem to have sufficient power, and minimal buzzing using dynamics. Cheers, nice video!
Thanks. In my experience the Behringer DI is absolutely fine. Please bear in mind this vide was to show different ways to record the guitar signal in order to get preamp out, poweramp out etc.
Would be curious to know what the different sound would be without aa DI box, and you plugged right into the interface. Which DI box are you using? What interface are you using?
Interface is the behringer uphoria hd with two xlr inputs.
The DI is the standard active one from behringer.
Depending on your setup you an get away with using the instrument input. I think the problem lies with interfaces powered purely by USB and their lack of proper grounding.
The transformer in the di theoretical mimics the pickups better.
Hi great video! I've been looking to record direct from the speaker out of the amp head through a DI and then the interface. This has been very helpful so thank you. But I know now that I've to put the link output to the cab so that my amp head doesn't explode, but the speaker out put is a Bridge parallel amplifier, does that make a difference? Should i be worried about burning the electronics?
Because I am not exactly sure what you mean I would rather not comment or suggest. Does the manufacturer have some info on the load usage in its documentation?
@@KrachWerke that's the issue, there's no information about the load on the documentation. I've two tiny amps. The Micro Dark by Orange and the Clean MV50 from Vox. The DI I'm using is a Behringer DI-4000. This DI it's supposed to handle speaker output of any cab, but it doesn't say anything about the load for this feature, so I'm not quite sure if using the link output of the DI to the speaker should solve the issue or if the DI can handle the load by itself.
At first, very eye opening Video! Thanks! My question:
I use the Steinberg UR22 MK2 as USB interface and used the build in Hi Z instrument input to go straigh from the Guitar to Amplitube 4.
Now I own a BSS AR133 Active DI and put it between the Guitar and the interface. The raw tone that goes into the Daw is very different. But is it better? I have no clue. I want the Guitar signal entering the computer as authentic and pure as possible.
What are your thoughts on that? And what do you think of an Hi Z input? (does not work with XLR)
Thank you in advvance. Cheers
OOft, difficult...
SO I had a tascam io/2 interface and the instrument input option sucked baws so I started using the DI inbetween. I now have the Behringer UMC202HD and it is amazing using just the Instrument Line in (Hi Z).
I sometimes feel that the DI might be spungy? But it might just be me.
I think a good way to figure out how uncoloured the guitar signal is going into the daw via interface is to apply distortion. This reveals the noisefloor on the clean signal quite quickly.
I must admit the UMC202HD is amazing and clean with very low noise floor so now I only use the DI if I want to record the pre-amp, amp or want to introduce feedback.
Sorry I can't be of more help with this question. Maybe just A/B the two and choose which one you like :-)
Thank you so much! This was of great help. I took the choice to use the Hi Z input for Amplitube 4. It is indeed more brilliant.
Of course it is a matter of taste, but I think this is indeed the way to go with modern USB Interfaces.
Thank you so much my friend! Keep on rockin'
With your di/amp head diagram. Is it possible to use the effects loop in to the pedal chain's modulation and time-pedals; and connect the amp head's output into a di?
And secondly, what if the amp head has a di? Do you still need di box?
Yes, the amp head can go into the DI but please remember the speaker out needs attenuated and loaded.
You can also take it from your fx loop out even if there are pedals in front.
Not sure about your last point as usually the DI's from an amp out are also speaker emulated and usually sound naf. If not then yes possibly.
What is important is that IF you take an out from a source of higher voltage like speaker out is that you make sure the amp has a required load and that you attenuate the signal by using an attenuator and also using the attenuation pads on the DI.
@@KrachWerke thank you.
hi sir.. i have an amp that have di out. so i can just plug a cable there go straight to my focusritev
Usually yes. In my experience amps with DI out have a mock impulse response which kinda sounds crappy. I don't know what amp you have so I am saying that tentatively.
@@KrachWerke marshall plexi combo. i tried yeah it sounds crappy you were right. i prefer to record it on mic. much better boss.....
hi, I am using a cheap audio interface, "m-audio solo". playing guitar on my pc with amplitube. but there's a noise becomes worse with high input gain. even with clean amps. is it because of the audio interface? can I solve this with di boxes? noise doesn't dissapear when I touch the guitar. and it's not like a buzzing, more like a "hsss" sound so I think it's not about grounding of the guitar. and one thing I don't understand, input sound only comes from the right channel. output is stereo on amplitube but input right only. couldn't figure out why.
Weird.
I would try a cheap active DI like the Behringer.
But the problem seems different. Maybe a bad input preamp I don't know know without seeing the whole chain.
Also remember you set ampl to the desired input.
@@KrachWerke what do you mean by desired input? and bad input preamp? guitar is directly connected to instrument input on the audio interface and it goes to pc by usb. thanks for helping btw.
for setup 3 , do i use the input or output from the bass amp to link on di box?
In setup 3 the Guitar/Pedalboard are plugged into the DI. Using the DI 'link' or sometimes labelled 'through' goes straight into the amp. The DI balanced out is then fed into the interface.
@@KrachWerke ive got my bass into the input of di box and the thru into amp, can i still use the eq knobs on amp? when i turn them nothing happens in my daw
@@beatsbyfavo If it goes into the front of the amp it should work, did you maybe put it into the amp fx teturn?
@@KrachWerke its a 30 watt bass amp just 1 input, im using radial sb2 passive isolated di for bass and keyboard
I was looking at Amplitude cos i don't have room for amps now. But all this audio interface stuff i don't have a clue about and i've never heard of a DAW. Can you not get a great sound plugging straight into a laptop accessing Amplitube and then out to some kind of speakers? I mean by the time i buy Amplitube and then audio interfaces and stuff i'd probably be better just buying a new amp! My amp was a Marshall JCM800 and it got badly smoke damaged in a house fire so had to be binned.
I would suggest you have options:
A good interface is a necessity I would say. Start there. I would go for the Behringer UMC202HD. Cheap but really good.
From there you can get the free version of amplitube and use the shop to extend the amps, cabs and pedals. It comes free with some basic ones.
The other option is to download reaper which is a DAW. Then use free amp sims and cab emulators. This option can be totally free and the plugins are very good. If you go through my videos you will see some of these options.
@@KrachWerke Thanks for the help mate. I'm having problems even downloading the free version for my laptop (lack of space left). Think you have to have over 1GB and i have around that but it gives me a warning sign that i don't have the space left for the complete download. Thought i could download it to a zip drive thing, memory stick, but even when that option is selected for the download it go's to the 'C' Drive of my computer. Don't understand it. When selecting speakers for cranking it up, if you want to, what wattage would you get? I mean can you crank it up as loud as your normal amp if you wanted? I love the idea of being able to purchase whatever gear you want. Thanks.
Can't you plug an XLR from the amp DI straight into an audio interface?
Yes, usually. These are usually DI signals anyway. Sometimes though they are speaker emulations which suck though.
@@KrachWerke thanks, I plan to plug the balanced DI from my TV RH750 via xlr-xlr into my MOTU M2. I just wasn't sure if I needed an xlr-1/4" trs
